Lake namesHi and welcome! For lake names, especially the famous ones like Lake Albert, we don't usually add a qualifier like ", Africa" - it's like London or Paris. If there were additional obscure Lake Alberts, then they would be "Lake Albert (Utah)" or some such. So I moved it back. Also, redirs to redirs don't work - when you move a page, look at the "what links here" and fix all redirs listed to point to the article at its new name. Stan 06:57, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
i've added a disambiguation to the lake albert page on the african one. Xtra 10:04, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
in future, where there is a common name with an international place, and they have already taken the name, either add a disambig link to that page, or if there are numerous places of the same name, make a separate disambig page and leave the name of the page intact. cheers. Basements and cellarsThanks for the info. Here in TX (where we rarely have any space beneath our houses and thus don't know what we're talking about) we use the terms interchangeably. I did live in a house with a basement once, but sadly, it could have doubled as a swimming pool. Joyous 12:03, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC) subpagesI'm wondering if you can tell me how to add subpages to my user page. I see you've done it with User:ScottDavis/Murray crossings. I've searched the tutorials and have found nothing. Thanks Cnwb 23:36, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC) Because the previous version was 1000% better. RickK 20:24, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC) Sorry about that - I was cleaning up after the mess those two left, and accidentally reverted one of her self-reverts. Ambi 00:59, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC) Yes, I acted a bit hastily there - I was under the impression that most place articles don't include the county/state/country unless necessary for disambiguation purposes - I only noticed the rest of the Australian placenames after I did the move. Initially, I was going to merge in City of Port Augusta as well, but then I realised that they're not referring to the same thing, so I just kind of fizzled out :/ Feel free to move it back to Port Augusta, South Australia. sjorford →•← 14:31, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC) Hi Scott. Nothing major over at Hawker. I just found the disambig heading separators a little loud I guess. I've gone ahead and done the required janitorial work myself. No harm done. -- Longhair | Talk 15:53, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC) C C KingstonThanks for your comment. Perhaps you could find a better photo of him which is in the public domain. (Are you going to do an article on Lake Caddibarrawirracanna, Australia's longest place name?) Adam 00:45, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
John DownerSorry, I assumed he was an actor, movie seemed like a weird occupation :) I wouldn't worry about the disambig, there are 3 John Downers involved in film (none are especially famous), if one of them does get made at some point ther author can do the disambig.--nixie 14:54, 6 May 2005 (UTC) Sorry, you're quite right. The main problem is that the article was pretty much a series of unconnected one-sentence paragraphs, making it look like a page of notes rather than an article. I've gone back to it and made a start (moving and combining text, adding a category), but I think that the text still needs to be fleshed out with a bit more detail for it to read well. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 12:37, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
Doh! Why didn't I spot the duplication when I added the category? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:59, 15 May 2005 (UTC) User:Humanbot update 04 June 2005Since you entered the mailing list while the project was down, I assume that you wanted to be told when it was up. Well, it's up. Note that it is generally unreliable at the moment and if it doesn't work now you should check back in a few hours. r3m0t talk 12:22, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC) No ProblemThanks for the thanks for the maps in the goyder's line article. Any time you need anything, just contact me via the talk page. Ytgy111 10:02, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC) User:Humanbot update 08 June 2005Version two-two released today includes in that green box a nice count of how many articles are left. This more or less co-incides with the event of hitting only 1000 articles remaining. Also, I have re-arranged the User:Humanbot page to make it easier to get to the right stuff. Progress charts, wikicookies, wikilove and a more thorough spelling check is promised when this is completed. (and also when the exam pressure eases off a little on me) r3m0t talk 17:41, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC) Note: If you think this message was too trivial for a mailing, tell me and I'll stick to more important announcements on the list. Thanks! Thanks for your great expansion on the Rundle Mall Article and the pictures. You did a great job. Taylor 04:19, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Use of {{AU-politician-stub}}You learn something every day here at Wikipedia. Thanks Scott. If there's a plethora of changes I need to undo, let me know thanks. -- Longhair | Talk 09:48, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm popular tonight aren't I? ;) Hehe. I once lived in Merbein, Victoria for a very short time. Just down the road was a large Wolff Blass winery, and right behind it, acres and acres of wine growing grape vines. I categorised the entire area as a wine region until a proper article on the subject arrives. Again, it's a topic I'm lacking knowledge in. Wine and I just don't agree. :) - Longhair | Talk 10:17, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
User:Humanbot update 13 June 2005The spelling2 project (to work on secondary namespaces) was opened and finished. Progress charts will be available soon. Version six-three tracks who made the edits, and rankings are available. Much of the work was done while I was asleep, explaining my low place ;). The next project, which may even be released today, will probably fix incorrectly capitalised headings, particularly "See Also" and "External Links". The mailing list has grown to 24 people and while that is very nice for my ego, it is rather difficult to send out updates. This is why I did not send out a notice that the spelling2 project had opened. From now on, then, you must watch User:Humanbot/announce for updates. r3m0t talk 12:03, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC) Caribbean stubsScott - do you mind if I help populate your stub list? ImagesThanks for pointing out your gallery, I've used one of the senic shots of the Barossa Valley. --nixie 05:16, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC) Categories at WikiProject AdelaideHey ScottDavis! Since we now have an outline of the South Australia category (thanks for adding that), do you think we should have a complete category skeleton, that is, a full outline of South Australia with Adelaide and its daughters off-shooting? Such an outline would better show editors which category to use. Conversely, it could also be horribly confusing and perhaps beyond the scope of the Project. Thoughts? -- Cyberjunkie TALK 04:28, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Double redirect cleanup awardThanks for correcting my errorI made an error at Pacific Patrol Boat Program in converting 2500 nautical miles to 370 km. You corrected this to 4625 km. I was converting a lot of instances of 200 nautical miles (common sea boundary) to 370 km. For some reason that instance got caught up with it. I have no idea why I made such a simple error, but I am glad that you corrected it. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Bobblewik (talk) 4 July 2005 22:21 (UTC)
George Ferguson BowenThanks for putting my nose to the grindstone. I have put a parenthetical reference into the main article. One may hope that this will give the reader a more balanced view of the topic. Too Old July 5, 2005 02:54 (UTC) HumanbotThank you for fixing a spelling mistake in MANOVA. I would just like to say that it should have been upper case instead of lowercase, as it was at the beginning of sentence. I fixed it, and it does not matter much. The only reason I let you know is in case that is a more general bug of the humanbot. So, if it was a rather unique human mistake rather than a computer program mistake, I can rest assured. You can reply here (to keep the talk in one place). Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov 5 July 2005 03:29 (UTC) Oops. Thankyou. The script warns that it's not good with capitals, and usually we notice and do it right. Sorry for missing one, and thankyou for fixing it. --ScottDavis 5 July 2005 09:19 (UTC) I just reverted the Narrambi Road link as it seems to have been agreed that Philip J. Rayment was right, and that that was the correct spelling. I know there's a bit of a mess of links and the other pages that was never resolved, but I wasn't in the mood to do it right then - I know it needs sorting. Ambi 12:26, 13 July 2005 (UTC) RE: Stub templatesJust to let you know- I am in fact part of WP:WSS, so I know all about the extra templates, but since the page has been redesigned I find it a great pain to use them. Don't get me wrong, I love stubbing articles and back in the day I enjoyed sorting them as well. It just is more feasible one way for me, now. Apologies. Mr Bound 16:28, July 13, 2005 (UTC) possible duplicate articlesDespite the differences in distance estimates I'm going to say that they are one park and that Gammon Ranges National Park is a duplicate, because on the DEH website there is only one park with Gammon in the name that I can see and that's Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park. I'll take the website's info over what might have been a rough estimate on the wikipedia Gammon Ranges page. Diceman 16:46, 18 July 2005 (UTC) Thanks for the help there... I don't actually know that much about him, but noticed the gap and thought that I could at least put *something* there. Looks like you have a bit more local knowledge than I do :) --Skud 02:15, 25 July 2005 (UTC) Thanks againI noticed what you fixed with my Golden Grove Village article, thanks for fixing up my bad links etc. Thanks again :) Taylor 10:02, 30 July 2005 (UTC) Split editsHi Scott, I can't think of a way that it would be possible for me to move those edits between articles. It really shouldn't matter since they still exist -somewhere-. --nixie 13:10, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
ThanksThank you for your vote of support on my recent RfA. I was quite surprised by the amount of support I received, and wish to extend my thanks to you for taking the time to support my nomination for adminship. -- Longhair | Talk 12:13, 1 August 2005 (UTC) Re: GGVI thought about your message and I'm thinking that we might as well merge it anyway. However, with this merge it needs to be more than "The Golden Grove Village is an adequate place to shop." If anyone doesn't like it then they can just revert it. Taylor Completed! I merged the article with the GGSA article, change it to a better style if you wish. Click here Taylor Re: Wang KonTo be honest, I don't know. I just made it from a request, with the information I could find online, so that if anyone who knows about Korean history came along, they would have more incentive to give their Knowledge. "Wang Kon" seems to get more Google hits [1] [2], so I suggest leaving it there until someone with said knowledge comes along. Sonic Mew | talk to me 22:12, August 7, 2005 (UTC) AustraliaCould you comment on Jiongs edits on the talk page, I think he/she is trying to insert and anti-immigration POV without data that actually supports the claim. I read the productivity comissions findings, and they're not what Jiong is tyring to represent.--nixie 02:09, 11 August 2005 (UTC) My RfAJust a quick note to say thanks for the support on my adminship nomination - you're but one of many Australian editors who make valuable contributions. The words are obviously part of a ten page rave about having been a west coast tasmanian ( I lived there in the 70's) and the on-going relationship between the community, the hydro, politicians, as well as heritage etc etc. Very un-wiki. Apologies again. As to lake margaret article. There is a lot more to it, shall have to go off and read and think a bit more before I put it up. vcxlor 15:04, 22 August 2005 (UTC) 1. I see you're changing the borders of the tables in Governor of the Falkland Islands. Do you mind explaining why you also removed the column headings? I think it needs either the column headings, or a – between the two years instead of them being in two columns. --Scott Davis Talk 00:20, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
StonehavenIf someone does something as stupid as changing "Stonehaven" to "Baird" all the way through the article, which clearly says he was given his title before he came to Australia, I am under no obligation to pick through all his edits looking for the few which might be valid. Adam 03:30, 10 September 2005 (UTC) The article is clear about when his name changed. You are of course free to make any edits you like. Adam 04:05, 10 September 2005 (UTC) I'm sorry if you have formed that impression. I do get annoyed when people make stupid and ignorant edits to articles which I and other editors have put a lot of work into. I try to draw a distinction between the well-intentioned but ill-informed and the malevolent and partisan, but I don't always get it right. Adam 05:34, 10 September 2005 (UTC) List of place namesI've just been going through some of the Victorian ones on that list you made, adding mentions to a few disambig pages - I notice the ACT is missing though.
