You're welcome! Did you notice Wallenstein, too? I'm not sure I'm doing the right things with the translation information boxes, so I'd appreciate it if you could check to make sure that everything is OK when I finish the proofreading (updating the fields in the boxes, moving the boxes where they belong, etc.).

Trivia: The original text of the Golden Key is also available. It's so short that it's hardly worthwhile making a whole article about it. :-)

I took a quick look at Gerhard Roth the other day and was surprised to read that Thomas Roth was his son -- until I realized that it's not the German TV journalist Thomas Roth that I see sometimes when I read the ARD website. :-)

My problem with the translation boxes at the current time is how to move them around to the right places. I'm not doing any of that right now.

I looked at Gerhard Roth, The Golden Key and Wildschönau up till now. Wildschönau has some lovely photographs in German that aren't in the English one. I don't know if they're available in Wikimedia or not, but you might consider putting them on the translated page.

I hope that "flattery is the best form of praise" -- because I "stole" some ideas from your user page for mine. :-) How did you create a special sub-page for your translations?

I think I figured out how to move the translation boxes for the proofreading I did to the right places on the translation page. :-)

Now I have a question about Ried im Innkreis. Someone has signed up to be proofreader for it, but hasn't gotten very far. It's a very long article! The template almost makes it look like there can be more than one proofreader, but I'm not sure how to do that. And if I did, what happens with the person who is supposely already looking at it? Any ideas?

Simply put your signature next to the name of the initial proofreader. As it seems, the person has already given up proofreading. Finish the task as usual and put the template on the page Wikipedia:Translation/*/Completed_Translations/December_2007.

P.S. I translated the first poem of the article Saverne Affair and changed the translation of the second one. I put my translation on Talk:Saverne Affair.

Thanks for the hint about how to create a sub-page to my user page. It seems simple enough now, but I never would have thought of doing that!

I think I saw an example somewhere of more than one person signing up for something in a translation (by putting a comma between the fields), so that's something that I'll probably try a little later today.

My Hero

Scbarry, thanks a lot for your translations. I haven't had time to read them and will not until wednesday, unfortunately. My English is good enough for conversations and i understand almost everything i read, but i am not fit to translate, even if i can spot blatant errors. This to say that i won't be making great improvements on what you have done. I will however ask for other translations from time to time. German speaking Wikipedia is certainly the most thorough of them all; i had spent a lot of time in French speaking Wikipedia too (under a different user name once again) and it is a catastrophe save for some very specific domains. I just came across the article during a round of typo correction. I tried to fix the typos, but the article is very poor English too. "A contemporary image of ..." should be a good match of the Danish sentence (I admit, my Danish skills are close to zero ;-)). The article provides a lot of information, it would be a pity if it got lost. It seems that this was a stub, which was expanded by the editor you've mentioned, then reverted and then again expanded. Nevertheless it should be corrected/rewritten to make at least a readable article.

To answer your question : the weak point of the German article is indeed the Strasbourg times. Schneider went down in Strasbourg's history as a fanatic who sent opponents to death as they went. Of course, the portrait has to nuanced, but why i compared him with Stalin is obvious : Stalin too wanted to be a priest and studied theology with true conviction, and with the same conviction he then became what he became : a revolutionary idealist turned mass-murderer. 100 Great Paintings

Hm, it is the titles of the paintings that are to be translated, aren't they ? Well, i must say that i am not sympathetic at all towards this article. An article on a list, that is more or less a reproduction of the list itself seems a little unencyclopedic anyway (but you can squeeze anything into Wikipedia, that's its great weakness), but then it also appears to be a list made by an Englishman ! Which means that instead of translating the German version/translation of this list, one should only go back to the original BBC version ! I'm sorry, but i'd never endorse such a strangely preverse endeavour such as translating a translation back into its original language. BUT - i'll have a new request for you in a minute. I don't particularily claim to know anything much about the machines, I did visit the visitor-F-60 in Brandenburd twice during the 5 years I lived there, and my wifes father used to be responsible for maintaining the electrical parts on them, so that's why I know them. Thank you for proofreading the article. As you may have noticed, I tried to come away from the literal translation approach. In my opinion it is much easier not to stick at every single word (which I normally do ;-)), sorry if you had more work on this translation for this reason.
I also noticed, that I am using the wrong words again and again (e.g. "afflux" instead of "tributary"), although I already know better. Der Mensch ist ein Gewohnheitstier. Maybe I should write down these words on a sheet of paper for the next time...
Thank you for your comment on the numbers too. I didn't know that the rule exists in German as well! In newspapers you can read sentences like "25% der Bevölkerung..." every day, bad prose I assume...

Aufarbeitung

I'm struggling somewhat with the word "Aufarbeitung". How would you translate the following?

Hubertus Knabe setzt sich für die konsequente Aufarbeitung der kommunistischen Verbrechen auf deutschem Boden ein: „Erst wenn die kommunistische Diktatur den Deutschen ähnlich präsent ist wie das verbrecherische Regime der Nationalsozialisten, ist die Aufarbeitung der Hinterlassenschaften von Stasi-Minister Erich Mielke wirklich gelungen.“

You probably know better than I do what that word means, if you're a native German speaker. :-) My native language is American English and I'm largely self-taught in German. I have a feeling for the word, but it is a little tough for me to totally grasp. My biggest aid is a couple of _very_ big German/English dictionaries. The whole passage is a difficult one, I think.
You might get some ideas from this. Pick the choices that fit the best. :-)

Roughly, it is the workshop of all the different professions involved in building and restoring the cathedral : architects, sculptors, masons, plasterers, stone-carvers, glass-makers... Hello Ws2censor - Thanks for proofreading. I had hoped that Tirkfl would be able to do it, but since he just finished up on his PhD a couple of days ago, I suspect he won't have as much time for Wikipedia. The two words I marked, Querformat and Eilmarken, should be checked. My biggest dictionary had Querformat as landscape format, but there was no entry in the English end for landscape format and I don't even know if that is the concept they were trying to get across. So maybe it has to do with printing stamps in the landscape format (wider than high) and maybe not (and if so, what does that really mean with an X?). Eilmarken are "fast stamps", which is why I put express stamps, but I don't know the correct philatelic term for this and it wasn't in my dictionaries.
As for the translation template, you also need to set Stage = 4, which I've just done. Does it look right to you now? (Since I upgraded to IE7 a while back (or at least, I think that's what made the difference), those things often look out of date to me now, so it's a little hard for me to tell. Grrr.)
Tirkfl still has one "postage stamps and postal history of ..." article he was working on but is incomplete, which I may still try to finish up. The philatelic terms can be a problem, but it would be good to finish it up, anyway.

The DYK dudes may still complain about the translation template being on the main page. I don't know of any policy about where exactly the translation templates should be, and when, but I generally take them off the main page after I've finished proofreading, since Wiki articles are supposed to be anonymous looking. Hi Scbarry. On Strasbourg, many things would still need to be translated, but some are on not very important subjects. This subject is important, no doubt, and this one too (but the article is merely start-class); and then this one and that one are at least very interesting, but the french language versions are, in those two last cases, much more complete. 1898 is correct, because the curch was clasified before it burnt down and Beblo rebuilt. The old remains (from 1478), the chapel, the cloister, the frescoes and the glass windwos now in the Musée de l'Oeuvre Notre-Dame, are actually really beautiful, they give an idea of how magnificent the whole must have been.
