April Fool's Day DYKHi, Royalbroil. You seemed very involved in evaluating candidates for the April 1st DYK section--and I saw some funny ideas being tossed around. I had a look at the main page, none of the current DYK's look terribly odd/funny/unusual. Am I missing the joke, is the update delayed, or did someone decide not to be funny this year? —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk • contribs)

Hope you understand and sorry for me holding it off. --Tlayden (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2008 (UTC) Sorry if I caused any problems for you with the review. I was new to Wikipedia at the time and had no clue that there was a process involved for review. I looked at a few articles to review and it caught my attention, so along on other reviews I just COMMENTED on it. While I agree that the person who calls it should get it (the article), experience on Wikipedia is not a major factor in being able to review something for that matter....Have Zenlax review the article. --Tlayden (talk) 05:13, 2 April 2008 (UTC) Yes I am very interested in North Wilkesboro Speedway, in fact I am the web designer for the company Save The Speedway that is documenting all the history at the track and is placing the historical marker for the track in May. To answer your question on if the track is accessible, Yes it is. If there is a way I can contact you my private email I could give you more information. Also in our collection of photos and images Save The Speedway has more the 1000 photos and images, as well as video and program covers that have been given to us with expressed permission to use. I will try and get some of the photos together and put them on the page for other to see. April Fools' Main PageHi, I noticed you are archiving some of this year's discussion. Thanks for that! Do you think you might be able to also create archived versions of the AFMP? I think someone did so for last year but this years is now gone, near as I can tell. Unless I was looking in the wrong place. I'm thinking that since this is now a 3 year old tradition, an archive structure that didn't just use the standard archive box might be better ... some sort of embedded template that all the talk pages carry that shows, by year, the main page, the main page talk, the DYK talk pate, the FA talk page, etc. It might be a bit much to do but might also avoid some rediscovery/reinvention each year. I noticed this because my blog link to yesterday's main page is already stale and I was trying to find what to link to... what do you think? ++Lar: t/c 18:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Done Done Done Kulwicki GAWell done. Regarding FA, you'll have gathered that you'll need a copyediting specialist to look over it. Try the WP:PRV page for volunteers (not me though, I'm too close to the topic, and obviously not yet up to Tony1's high standards!). Regarding refs, I think you'll have some work to do. Especially now that Ealdgyth tends to check all weblinks and question whether they're reliable. The major websites (NASCAR.com NYT etc) are all fine, obviously. There are some that are reproductions of good sources, but by sites that we don't know are reliable in themselves (I'm thinking of ones like 2, 4, 14, 23 (duplicate of 2?)). That means that strictly they don't count as reliable sources. There are also some broken links (already!) Nos. 11, 17, 18, 19. You may be able to find a cached copy or look on the Internet Archive. The underbird.com site looks like a fan site, which is tricky because it's self-published. You might perhaps argue that in this particular case, it's appropriate. You may also be asked whether sites like Ultimate racing results, Racing reference info and Laidback racing.com are reliable, so have your answer ready! Sorry to bring more work! 4u1e (talk) 18:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Quick questionSince you are now and administrator (Congrats on the Kulwicki GA. I assisted you courtesy of the Hooters magazine article on the 25th annivesery of the company earlier this year), I have a quick question. If you click on the Luis Palau article, you will see two pictures. The second one is the one I am interested in since I took it and uploaded it last September. An anonyous user from Australia is claiming I have a possible copyright violation because I took the picture from the Jumbotron used at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. I have explained that I was not able to get close enough to Palau to take the picture so taking it on the Jumbotron was the next best option. How can a free use image be classified as a copyright violation? I don't get it. Chris (talk) 20:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Kulwicki GACongratulations on the article becoming recognized as Good. I know you put a lot of work into that. I just looked at it, and there are parts I don't recognize, so you put even more hard work into it! And I didn't realize you'd become an admin, so congrats on that too!. -Freekee (talk) 02:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC) Re: next dykThanks! I was hoping someone would comment on that one eventually, since it's the only hook for the 31st of march and 1st of april that still had a decent picture, but I didn't want to put something I wrote myself on the page without someone at least commenting on it. Now I can finish the update with a peace of mind. - Bobet 00:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
The Woodlands Resort (A7)Dear Royalbroil, Just wondering why The Woodlands Resort information was deleted based on A7 when many other hotel and resorts appear on Wikipedia? I am still interested in becoming an admin, mainly to help out with DYK, but after my last (withdrawn) RFA I decided I wanted more time to get some runs on the board. Basically I decided not to nominate again until I had at least 2 years as a registered user and 12k edits. I passed the 2 year milestone a day or two ago and I will probably exceed 12k around the end of this month. If you are still interested in nominating me then, I will probably be willing to accept at that time. Jocko MaggiacomoI'm fairly confident that Jocko, Jr. was the Trans Am champion. If the 1947 birthdate is correct (which is the one listed on racing-reference, that would make Jocko 28 years old in 1976, a very reasonable age. This would also place that championship 1 year before that man's NASCAR debut, also a reasonable assumption. In addition, in the mid-late 80's, most of Maggiacomo's NASCAR starts were at road courses, indicating that he was some sort of "road course ringer". Finally, the AMC Javelin that Maggiacomo drove to the '76 Trans Am Cat 1 championship would have been very similar to the cars used in NASCAR at the time. Finally, this ebay auction of his memorabilia also indicates that Trans Am and NASCAR Jocko Maggiacomo are one in the same. -Drdisque (talk) 04:07, 15 April 2008 (UTC) Thanks for the DYKThanks for the DYK on the Bert Isatitsch article. Pastordavid had previously redirected the page to Skillet (band) a week ago, although it isn't a redirect at the moment. I fully respect what he did, although all of the other members should be redirected, too, to be consistent. I had a discussion with Erechtheus, who had first raised the point, and Johnbod, whose feedback I had requested. Proofreading hooks in the Signpost articleIf the hooks attributed to BInguyen, Piotrus and Cirt appeared today, I would remove the space after each ellipsis, end each hook with a question mark, and correct [[rowing|single sculls]], which links to a disambiguation page. Since they didn't appear today, perhaps you printed them that way in the interest of an exact quote. But I have given almost every hook in the last 20 months or so a spaceless ellipsis and a question mark. Art LaPella (talk) 03:03, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

But it's good to get confirmation from someone with experience :) I don't think I'll load an update for a day or two though. I'll probably play around in the admin sandbox for a while, until I start feeling more comfortable with the tools :) Gatoclass (talk) 12:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
RfA thank-spamRoyalbroil/Archive8, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Many thanks! Gatoclass (talk) 06:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Whew! Finally got through it. I can't believe how long it took to thank-spam over 100 people! Anyhow, saved the best till last. I just wanted to extend a special thanks to you RB, given that you are the user who has unquestionably given me the most support and encouragement for this over the last six months. Your good advice has been of enormous assistance, and you've also really helped me keep my feet on the ground throughout with your timely reminders that adminship really isn't such a big deal :) I was planning to hand you a six-pack but since I couldn't find one, I'm just shouting you to a beer instead. Enjoy! Gatoclass (talk) 09:51, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
RfA thanks!
Image reviewThe information provided is really too vague to keep the image. The specific question to ask the State Archives of Florida is "Is the image in public domain?" They may know the answer. If not, then it would need to be determined (if possible), when the image was first published and was it published with a copyright notice. If there was no copyright notice, then the image is in the public domain. If the image was published with a copyright notice, was the copyright renewed 28 years later as required? If the copyright was not renewed, then the image is in the public domain. The uploader stated the image would qualify as CC-by-sa, which is not true. An image does not qualify for a Creative Commons license. A CC license is granted by the copyright holder. Without more research to determine the status of the image, it should probably be deleted. -Regards Nv8200p talk 01:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Ian Frazer (cricketer) issueHi Royalbroil - I need your counsel on an issue over this article. Skipper08 insists that a few facts in the article are wrong, despite the fact that they are sourced properly - I explained that to him and provided the links - [2]. However, he behaves as he hasn't seen them and simply keeps removing them - [3]. What shall I do? Vishnava(talk) 17:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC) Re: DYK creditingNo problem, glad I could help. I figured I should get more involved with DYK, so this is a good place to start. :) Happy editing, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 18:59, 19 May 2008 (UTC) Oladevi DYK nomHi Royalboil - I request your opinion on a debate regarding this article's DYK nomination. Soman is arguing against the nomination for reasons that I feel are not justified - [4]. I have given my reply, but I would request your insight so as to make sure I can fix any issue asap. Thanks, Vishnava(talk) 15:57, 20 May 2008 (UTC) Grand-Am picsI recall a little while back that you had posted at WP:SCR regarding photos from Grand-Am at VIR, and I had forgotten about it until recently. I can say that there might be a few useful pictures that could be requested. Basically, it'd be nice if we had some clear shots of a new Dallara, a new Proto-Auto Lola, and maybe even a new Coyote CC/08 since I don't have any clear picturse of them from Daytona. They'd be nice to add to the Daytona Prototype article. I'll leave it to you to make the arrangements with the photographer for permission. The359 (talk) 07:18, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Bill Elliott.jpgThanks for uploading Image:Bill Elliott.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks for the picture compliment! Thanks for the compliments on my Chasen pic! Just now saw my talk page...I don't log in that often. We told them the pic was for Wikipedia, and they liked that, since they knew all about their page on here. I put the photo request in because I felt it should have a modern, recent photo. This property is a museum and a National Historic Landmark. It is a place that folks may want to visit. Was the town of Fremont annexed by the village of Fremont or was the town of Fremont redirected to the village of Fremont article by someone that should not had redirected the town of Fremont article to the village of Fremont article. In short where is the town of Fremont article for Waupaca County? Thanks-RFD (talk) 00:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I certainly didn't mean to drag you into this silly war, Royal, but as long as your in the room. Your right, it probably was amatueristic to do________-- and continue on. I had to get to work and wanted my brother to log on, take a look, and let me know what he thought. Its a personal editing manuvuer I've used for years. It allows me to move on and then come back and fill in the blank with just the "right' verb, etc. BTW...I've fished the Wolf at Fremont for 40 years. This is just Iblardi's sour grapes. Being a "rookie" here, I'm not quiet sure what to do. I have contacted dispute resolution and I am waiting for their reply. Initially, I feared Iblardi's retaliation. He seems to be a seasoned veteran editor. I seriously question his motives, however. Our initial conflict didn't seem like much to me. What it revolved around, in between the lines was, "Old World Stuff"...an unfavorable joke toward my ancestry that I would not tolerate, and I told him in many "talks"....anyway...thanks for listening..."see ya on 'da Wolf!":--Buster7 (talk) 02:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Alan KulwickiHi. Sorry for taking so long to get back. Sure, I'd be happy to help, it'd be good for all concerned to get the first NASCAR FA. From a very superficial glance the article looks very strong. I'll give it a detailed review over the next few days. Mark83 (talk) 11:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC) White Bass SpawnI've looked high and low, but I can't find any article about an on-going Wisconsin event. If not in the town of Fremont article, where would I put information about a bi-annual event that draws thousands of fishermen into Wisconsin. (A human spawning run?) There must be someplace where the entries I made yesterday about white bass would seem less "advertising".--Buster7 (talk) 13:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Question on reverting vandalismHi RB - I have a question I was hoping you'd help me with. I've noticed cases of anonymous ips vandalizing a page then removing it themselves in the next edit. Should the article be reverted to before the ip edited, or its ok to just leave it alone and warn the ip? Vishnava talk 23:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Orphan articles tags -Wisconsin local governmentsHi- User:Avocado has been putting orphan tags on some Wisconsin local government articles like the town of Sturgeon Bay in Door County for example. Is this okay?I am not going to get into an edit war with User:Avocado about this.I am relieve the articles are not being deleted or redirected.Thanks-RFD (talk) 22:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Wisconsin-local governmentsRoyalbroil I am trying to do the best I can with the Political subdivisions of Wisconsin especially with the towns. I try to locate a website about the municipality to add to the article or adding a notable person or some attractions, etc. It gets discouraging when some editor wants to redirect an article about a Wisconsin municipality or even try to get it deleted.Thanks-RFD (talk) 23:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Wisconsin photographsThanks for the tip. I will definitely look at the list and see what I can do. Hook charactersI have a few questions about reviewing DYK noms: Is 200 the maximum characters capacity in a hook, do you count the "... " as a character, and is this a good site to test the character capacity of a hook? Thanks, RyRy5 (talk) 04:43, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
DYKThanks! athinaios | Talk 05:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC) Please discuss your rationale for changing the article to the past tense on the article's talk page. I think the article needs to be written in the present tense and I have left a message there with my rationale. You have ignored me. Creating an account is also highly recommended because there's a good chance that you'll never get this message that I'm leaving right now. Royalbroil 19:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC) Okay, Wisconsinite amigo, I’ve contributed to this article under these account designations—Rosspz; 74.94.83.94; and 75.73.209.32. You can check the edit history for actual edits. As to you question about the past tense, this reminds me of the Monty Python skit about the parrot brought back to the pet shop owner: Dead Parrot and script at: http://www.mtholyoke.edu/~ebarnes/python/dead-parrot.htm--Mr. Praline:” I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!” Owner: “No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.” Lake Delton is gone. It’s dead. It may be repaired, and might not be repaired. Maybe the Army Corps of Engineers and/or the Dept. of the Interior (since the Wisconsin River is a navigable water of the United States and thus under federal jurisdiction) won’t give the required permits. What Gov. Doyle may want and plan to do is irrelevant. Unless and until the dam is upgraded and the breach repaired by means of modern day fill techniques, there is no more Lake Delton—it is a former lake. The possible, precarious and possibly phantasmagorical repair of the breach and refilling of Lake Delton are uncertain and contingent events that and the use of the present tense in talking about the lake is an exercise (although admirable) in denial or denial of denial.
