I went to the redirect page (by searching on "William Guest", and that took me to the singers article - but, at the top, it said, "(Redirected from William Guest)" - by clicking on that bit, it took me to the actual page called "William Guest" - the redirect that you'd made - which contained just one line;
#REDIRECT [[William Guest (singer)]]
I then edited that, and replaced the code with a "Disambiguation page" - I copied the format from another random-name-disambig, and then wrote a short summary line for each;

*[[William Guest (singer)]], an American R&B/soul singer, a member of Gladys Knight & the Pips
*[[William Guest (rugby player)]], played for Wakefield RFC, also a Territorial Army major

You can see the result of that in William Guest.
I also edited the two articles and added hatnotes, to link to the disambiguation. In the case of just two people with the same name, the hatnotes *could* just link to the other page - but I expect that there will be more 'William Guest' articles in the future, therefore a link to the disambig is probably more 'future-proof'. Thus, I added {{subst:Otherpeople2|William Guest}} to both articles. This displays as;
For other people with the same name, see William Guest.
Apologies for just doing this, rather than explaining it - which I realise was your original request; but in this case, it's a lot easier to show you by example.

CSD

As already pointed out above earlier, please take care with the taggings per WP:CSD:

  • Thenpandi Singam is clearly about a historical novel, so A1 does not apply.
  • ParaYoga isn't incoherent text or gibberish, so G3 does not apply.
  • Varilux had according to its edit history already been tagged previously for G11 with the deletion declined.

Thanks for clarifying your reasoning. To put it simple speedy deletion is for things that can or need to be deleted without discussion or debate. And actually anybody but the author can remove the tag if they see a need for discussion. So I am not deciding that they shouldn't be deleted at all, just if they are a clear cut case against specific criteria or if it would warrant further discussion, which usually takes place at AfD. There we try to determine whether to have an article on a topic rather than the merits or defects of a specific version.
So we don't have a systematic process to discuss if something is speedible upfront. Such a discussion would also be difficult whilst an article is in a list of >100 speedy deletion candidates each of which can be deleted by any admin at any given moment. Nor would it be productive to to have the discussion via adding and removing tags. And where the removal of a tag is in doubt then it should discussed with the person who contested or declined the deletion. For actual deletions, but here we also have a formal review process, though.
So Varilux has issues, but an editor removed the speedy arguing that it is not not blatant spam and thus implying that it is better to improve and I am inclined to agree. I shouldn't have said 'decline above', though and may have erred here on the side of caution. AfD on the other hand is not the right place for it as it is obviously notable. So we are probably stuck with applying other maintenance tags or improving it ourselves.
Neither ParaYoga and Thenpandi Singam amount to much, but the two speedy deletion criteria you proposed simply do not apply. You can of course bring them to AfD if you cannot find sources to improve them. Best, --Tikiwont (talk) 22:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find much information. But since the only reference to this channel on Wikipedia had the name before it was changed, I fixed that link and then put up the info I found with the notion that someone might come along and embellish. OK. In that case, being in a foreign language isn't grounds for speedy deletion. Instead, they can be listed at Wikipedia:NOTENGLISH, and the procedures there can be followed. Casey Research

Hello. You marked the page Casey Research for deletion, based on it being 'unambiguous advertising'. I had added the page as a link from a reference on the page about author and investor Doug Casey. the page contained only simple information to start with, noting the name, founding date, founders, and basic line of business info. More encyclopedic content was going to be added shortly thereafter. Why did you consider the page advertising if it was simply a reference note on a notable company in the subscription research business and a notable entry as part of the biography of Mr. Casey? I would like to understand the logic as I am a relatively new contributor and just trying to make the site better. I read the rules on advertising, and noted that "simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion". What specifically did make it qualify? Johnny Duggan

Richard, I've made a few changes to the Johnny Duggan article, including reference to the "Johnny Duggan to tour with New Zealanders?" Wakefield Express report you mentioned on the article's talk page. If he doesn't appear to have toured with New Zealand in 1953–54, I wonder whether he was allowed to play Rugby Union at all? Wakefield RFC

Richard, reading through the Wakefield RFC article, has prompted me with a couple of questions... was the Outwood Church ground at the junction of Rook's Nest Road and Coach Road in Outwood, as there's a street named Kingswell Avenue adjacent Rook's Nest school? William "Billy" E. Williams

Thanks for that Richard; it appears that William "Billy" E. Williams was still a Union man at Newport at the time (23 February 1946?). None of the Welsh players on the team sheet are shown as being at rugby league clubs (I've not checked the English players but it's very doubtful whether any of them would convert, or would have already converted, to League), and the Welsh players are not mentioned on the Welsh stars still had a rugby ball in wartime web page, but it appears there were a number of 'Victory' Internationals between December 1945 and April 1946, and how many I've not managed to find out, and I don't know if they were all England versus Wales matches, of whether other countries were involved. Wakefield Balne Lane

Wakefield Balne Lane were the runners-up in the Yorkshire Cup (rugby union) in both 1905 (against Harrogate RUFC), and 1906 (against Castleford RUFC)). Would you know whether they converted to rugby league, or did they stay with rugby union? Would you know when they went out of existence? Best Regards. "Played his earliest football with Thornes Lane Rovers and Thornes United, then at scrum half for Wakefield R.U. he gained Yorkshire County R.U. honours", are Thornes Lane Rovers and Thornes United descendants of Thornes FC?
