Threshold for third party candidates, 2024 United States presidential election

I read the RfC on the criteria for including third party candidates, and I honestly do not see that there have a clear and solid consensus on this matter, mainly regarding the minimum percentage in the polls that a candidate must have to be included in the infobox. On this particular point, I believe that the discussion and the time to discuss it was short, and that the interventions that were made were a bit confusing, as some did not quite decide between 5% and 10%.

Honestly, I think 5% is too low a threshold. Third party candidates tend to be above 5% in the months leading up to the election and drop off as election day approaches. A very clear example was candidate Gary Johnson in 2016. In the months leading up to the election polls consistently showed him above 5%, there were even several polls that had him above 10%. However, Gary Johnson only received 3% of the vote. So I think this issue should be further explored and discussed.

In my personal opinion, I believe the threshold should be 15%, the same threshold that the Commission on Presidential Debates imposes on third party candidates in order for them to participate in debates. Esterau16 (talk) 19:57, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
