Someone created thousands of stubs for minor waterways and all sorts of other things, often from very unreliable sources, it took us (myself, Moondyne, various others) weeks to get through them all. Primary schools are normally redirect & merged to an article on the school district or local authority, or if necessary the town. I m therefore declining all your prod requests. Please figure out & do the proper mefge/redirects (fwiw, usually very little is merged, but sometimes a combination article for a school district gives each one of them a paragraph & a picture). Train stations

Hi OIC. I noticed your move revert on Joondalup railway station. You would be able to guess my opinion on mandatory disambiguation on train station articles but I don't have any plans to start trying to get them all renamed. However, you may be interested in what has happened with the articles in Category:Railway stations in Brisbane where D'oh! Requested move - Victoria (state)

I asked for clarification at WP:CFD talk and got it confirmed that a bot will do the renaming. Seems they have their own for that, so no further bot request and thus no delay. Also the person that answered indicated it can go through speedy. Speedy has a 48h grace period, so we may be able to have it all done within 96 hours. In case someone opposed it will have to go through regular CFD, which would take 7 days. But even this is fine. When the rename is done, I now expect to be done with the most urgent stuff latest within 10 days. And the real urgent stuff, the templates would be done within 2 hours after I see the change.

If there is anything else I am happy to hear it and hopefully can address it well.

National parks

Hi. I'm currently writing an article with Nvvchar and Rosiestep on User:Nvvchar/Organ Pipes National Park. It came to my attention that you have your own infobox for Australian national parks. I'm fine with that, seems as you have a LOT of them. However I was wondering if you could introduce the pushpin map system and use Template:Location map Australia relief which I've just created. I think each national park should have an infobox and a locator on this relief map. Maybe it would be best to change the pin to a different colour? In regards to mountains I would like each mountain to have a locator map like Mount Ainslie (Australian Capital Territory). Is this OK? National parks are an Australian institution. But keep in mind many of them are small and close together so higher-zoom regional maps with a small "here-in-Australia" locator in the corner would be much more desirable than the national map in the example. (Mount Ainslie for example is well within Canberra's suburbs - as are a number of other things which would all look to be in the same place - a non exhaustive list in my own city would include Yanchep NP, Neerabup NP, Greenmount NP, John Forrest NP, Beelu NP, Walyunga NP, Gooseberry Hill NP, Kalamunda NP, Lesmurdie Falls NP, Serpentine NP, and that's only the national parks.) Now's not a good time for me simply because I'm snowed under with job apps and start of studies (academic year here in Australia begins in two weeks), and the NP template isn't one I'm personally familiar with, but I'll look at it when I have time. IMO all coords should be latitude/longitude because it means no matter what locator map is used the result should be correct, whereas loc x/y has to be changed each time one changes the image. Thanks for letting me know - you may well have a point. I vaguely remember this one from the time all this was happening. At the moment it doesn't seem like there's a lot to investigate - if their behaviour becomes problematic in its own right then they risk getting blocked for that, but I don't see it affecting you. Deputy Premier of Western Australia

Thanks for expanding the list of deputy premiers (I only bothered creating the article to round out Category:Lists of heads of government of Australian states and territories). A few things:

You need to recheck some of the dates (unles Willcock and Troy really were co-deputy premiers in 1935-36!)
According to this ADB bio, Willcock succeeded Angwin as deputy in 1927.
A cite would be good too.

Thanks. Incidentally, the WA parliamentary library source I used for the postwar deputies cites "Gerald Walter Watts" as deputy in 1959-62. But the only Watts in parliament was an Arthur Watts, according to the early 1960s member list. The list of MLAs yields an "Arthur Frederick Watts". Not sure what's going on there. Was definitely Arthur Watts - he was the country party leader from 1942 to 1962 and hence deputy premier any time the Coalition were in (and, strangely, opposition leader from 1942-47 as the Nationalists/Liberals were the minority partner at that time). The Willcock 1927 issue turns out to be an error in Bolton (1961), which I'd relied on for some of the ministry articles; I shall check the original gazettals for all 1911-1930 ministries this week in the Battye to see that there's no other ones lurking there. I notice you have the land district column in the database, but we never refer to these in towns articles but we always mention shire and region. Buldania was an odd one as there was just about nothing about the place - I didn't even have a gazettal or even a file, only (strangely) reserves with lot numbers attached to it indicating that there was at some point a townsite declared in the area. Defunct higher education institutions

I started one for TAFEs but it gets majorly complicated as there's basically no standardised records before 1980. With teachers colleges, there was only four - Claremont, Churchlands, Graylands and Mount Lawley, although I've found gazettals relating to a separate secondary teachers college which may have at some stage been colocated with one of the above. Another problem is confusing nomenclature, too - it seems some special schools associated with country high schools were called "technical schools", while the same term was applied to lower-order technical colleges in the city at the exact same time. Old LGA maps

Back in 2007 you made a bunch of maps of the old Victorian LGAs: Did you have a source for this information/what did you derive the base maps from?

It was either the 1992 Municipal Register (I doubt it, I think this just had text information) or the 1992 Victorian Year Book produced by the ABS. I got a photocopy from it while in the SLV in 2007, which I later scanned and used as the basis for drawing a map in Inkscape. Orderinchaos 16:31, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:Enidblyton11 and socks

144.136.101.108 (talk · contribs) (an Enidblyton11 IP) has been vandalising again, and I'm beginning to wonder whether it may be worth an SPI to see whether this is a new vandal, or if there's some sort of link to KAPITALIST88 (talk · contribs). The Enidblyton socks have distinctive behaviour (late night vandalism and hoaxes deliberately mixed in with factually correct edits) and it looks to be different to KAPITALIST's style. It's a difficult one without direct evidence, but...

In my TZ (GMT+8), Stravin historically edited at two times of the day - around 15/16/17, and around 21/22/23/(0). This closely matches Jarrodaus, but *didn't* match Enidblyton. There has been another IP - 58.106.81.131 - which has slightly different editing times again (finishing by 22, and editing from 11), which has a one-eyed Liberal bias and is from/mostly interested in electoral districts in the northern suburbs of Sydney. (This combined with its inappropriate behaviour towards other users makes me think that 58 = Kapitalist.) It got blocked for disruption for a week ending on Thursday and has resumed over there. Both IPs are from Sydney, but one is Telstra Bigpond and the other is Optus. Curiously, none of the accounts (including 144.), with rare exception, edit between 23 and 11! (that being 1am to 1pm Sydney time)

I think a checkuser is needed to sort this out, and include User:Романов as well. My belief is at this point that Stravin = Jarrodaus and some other undetected accounts, and Kapitalist = Enidblyton11 = 58. Романов is a reformed editor linked to this group, which curiously hasn't edited much at all since action was taken on Enidblyton11 and 58. The old links can never be established - the checkuser data only goes back some months - but it looks to me that there is four accounts and three people, so at least two are coming from a single source. If I wasn't doing multitude of urgent assignments offline (damn uni) I'd write up the checkuser request, but if someone else could (and TS if you know of any other accounts as well) I'd be most grateful. The results are back. As I suspected, Jarrodaus11 = Enidblyton11. The rest are from similar areas, but have different ISPs. I've blocked Jarrodaus11, and re-blocked Enidblyton11 with abusing multiple accounts as the reason. The autoblock will catch any IPs he's been using, so that will deal with 144.136.101.108. I don't think the 58 editor is the same person as Enidblyton11: they seem to have very different editing styles. 58's been making a whole bunch of smaller changes in article space, and never communicates, whereas Enidblyton11's changes are larger, and he communicates disruptively on talkpages and through edit summaries. I'm finding their images rather questionable as some look professional (for PR), most if not all have no meta/EXIF data and again most if not all are low or poor resolution. After some advice

An IP has been removing "present" from tables in NSW electoral district article tables, making articles inconsistent with each other. I raised the matter at WT:AUP and there is no consensus to do this. It's annoying not only me but other editors as well. The IP is also adding WP:CRYSTAL stuff too, specifically 2015 election results to some articles.[2] I've asked him/her to stop and to discuss the matter at WT:AUP but the IP just keeps plugging away and has ignored everything added to their talk page. What they're doing is not strictly vandalism so an AIV report really isn't justified but it is disruptive. 4.5 editors have agree present shouldn't be removed, which is pretty much "broad" consensus by WP:AUS standards so the edits are disruptive. I considered an ANI report but it seems to trivial for ANI. All I want is for the IP to discuss but he's just content to do his own thing, ignoring everyone else. I'm not sure of the direction to take at this point. I want to express my strong appreciation for your very informed remark and your very kind one in the same AN/I thread about the accusation made against another user of intentional character assassination. I suppose it's foolish, but I always worry a bit that when I've taken the time to document a sticky situation, and post about the results, that no one will read them or care about them if they do. So it was just very pleasant to see your two remarks, thoughtful, as they were, in both primary meanings of that pliable word...

I also noticed your post here on your talk about the project, of course. I hope it won't seem too great a familiarity if I say that I'm so sorry you've been worn down by all the crap here. I've not contributed a decimal of what you have, but it's just very distressing to me, as well, how nasty this place can be with all the socks flying in the breeze and the rampant antagonism and bickering. I also contribute from time to time on a help and software development board for a version of the linux operating system, and it's just a much more pleasant place. Anti-social or aggressive behavior just isn't allowed: people who try it get bounced for long periods on the first or second occasion, and don't typically get a third chance.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I have considerable regard for your description of what you've been feeling, since I've felt a much smaller measure of that myself. Whether you find a new spark for your interest and enjoyment here, or discover more rewarding ways to spend your time, I'd just like to say how grateful I am for your contributions, and for the contributions of people like yourself who've invested themselves so obviously in an attitude of collaboration and scholarship during their work here. I think it'll be a long time before my enthusiasm and motivation to work on here come back. There's a dozen different things I could get stuck into tomorrow if I could find a reason to do so, including two or three articles which remain unfinished which I wouldn't mind adding to my little collection of symbols at the top right of this page. But real life has its capacity to intervene, and even if it didn't, I'd probably end up spending the time doing other things. But that is the nature of volunteering, I guess. Prepare for rain (we're the wettest winter capital in Australia) but it can be quite pleasant too - fine periods of up to a week with maximums as high as 24 or 25 are not unknown (but fine days usually mean very chilly nights, pretty close to 0°.). Street naming conventions

Hi, good to see you editing again. I was wondering if you knew anything about street naming conventions for Australian streets. The reason why I ask is because of some of the entries in Category:Streets in Sydney. Most of the streets have ", Sydney" as a disambiguator. For some, that seems to be because they are indeed ambiguous (e.g. there's a number of Victoria Streets and William Streets around the world, so William Street, Sydney and Victoria Street, East Sydney are a perfectly good disambiguators). So that much is OK.

The problems (that I've found so far; there might be more) are:

Some streets that aren't ambiguous have disambiguators, but there's nothing at the ambiguous title (e.g. Rowe Street, Sydney) There's nothing at Rowe Street (you deleted what was there, incidentally). Is the "Sydney" in "Rowe Street, Sydney" there because of a convention, or is it just a superfluous dab and can be moved to "Rowe Street"? Henry Lawson Drive, Sydney is also like this (there's nothing at Henry Lawson Drive); so is Crown Street, Sydney (nothing at Crown Street); as is Goulburn Street, Sydney (nothing at Goulburn Street).

Some streets that aren't ambiguous have disambiguators but do have redirects from the ambiguous title. For example, Martin Place redirects to Martin Place, Sydney; Taylor Square redirects to Taylor Square, Sydney; Glebe Point Road redirects to Glebe Point Road, Sydney).

Bayswater Road (Sydney) is dabbed like most (dabs). That was just moved recently from Bayswater Road, Sydney though.

Pitt Street, Sydney is a real mess. Pitt Street redirects to Pitt Street, Sydney, which in turn has a {{Redirect}} tag pointing toward Pitt Street (disambiguation), a dab that only has one blue link it - the Sydney one.

Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney: two layers of superfluous dabbing! (There's nothing at Harris Street or Harris Street, Ultimo).

When a street does need dabbing, do we dab using "Sydney" (to mean the Sydney metro area) or do we use the suburb/locality name? The reason why is because there's a Marshall Street, Surry Hills, but there's also a Blacktown Road, Sydney.

I won't have time to reply until 2 June - this morning was more of a work break from my assignment load (still have 2 x 2500 word essays to put out before then :| ) One thing I notice on quick investigation is that the whole Sydney category is non-systemic to begin with - Highways and Streets aren't even under the same parent category and there's no Roads category at all. Half or more of the Streets are more properly suburban distributors. Historically most of them were disambiguated with city name, but with streets it's a little more complicated as they're often more attached to their locality than their metropolis. Henry Lawson Drive and Glebe Point Road are clear cases for moving to their non-disambiguated forms; Harris Street appears to actually be the primary use so could also be moved (the only other significant one I can find is in Atlanta, USA). I found a whole group of them which were 3-5 years out of date. As the entire parameter was going to get removed anyway, I removed them as housekeeping edits (and fixed some other minor issues while doing so, such as mis-links, blank fields which don't relate to suburbs and the like). The exception were a bunch added by a single user in Melbourne and Newcastle, which linked to a site which didn't appear to conform with WP:EL. When I make substantial edits, I do justify them. Relatively routine edits, especially if they're repetitive ones affecting a whole bunch of articles in a way which does not impact upon the content, are quite a different matter - if the Wiki software was more amenable to setting default edit summaries, I'd probably use it, as I do with AWB and with rollback. It'd simply slow things down to a ridiculous level - I don't have a lot of time to edit on Wiki these days (as other posts on this page make abundantly clear) and we have WP:IAR and WP:BURO to ensure productive work is not stifled. Hello why have you deleted the religion section of the webpage? Atheism is included on a lot of worldwide entries for politics. Well, the category is for the individual's religion. She is an atheist. The categories are there to guide the encyclopaedia to provide information to the public. This allows people to reference categories. Particularly relevant in politics. Among a number of things is to allow people to do searches. I found this entry because of listening to the radio and there is a religion in politics debate. I wanted to know who is an atheist in the debate and who is religious. Also Euthanasia is a big issue and as health minister it is good to know what religion she is. It only adds to the encyclopaedia not detracting from it. Look at the entries for politics around the world. Religion is a big thing in Australian politics. Sydney and Brisbane are the worst overall on a lot of things precisely because they had very insular WikiProjects working on them who imposed their own standards and didn't reference WP Australia, then subsequently kind of died, and because that relationship with WP Australia wasn't built up, noone stepped in to fill the void (or fix the mess). Doesn't really make any difference. If I lived there, I'd take a photo of the main street of the CBD. But if the City of Stirling had a photo of a beach somewhere in it, I wouldn't walk away with the assumption it was a beach. It's in effect an organisational unit consisting of suburbs. City of Nedlands

I do not care what you call the orgin year of the City of Nedlands. However your use of est makes it a direct part of Category:1893 establishments. Since it is in subcats of that cat like Category:1893 establishments in Australia it should not be directly in that category. You need to find a way to list the year of establishment without automatically making it part of the category. This seems to only happen with Australia locations. The warning you placed on my Talk page is nonsense; I made a change unredlinking common names such as Alec Thomson. My change was reverted asking "why?" I reinstated my edit, with explanatory summary: "WP:REDNOT personal names". It was reverted again, with a summary asserting notability of the names I had unredlinked. I reinstated my edit, with very detailed explanatory summary "rv. sooner or later another, different "Alec Thomson" will become notable & will be linked from here; this often happens. Redlinking "Alec Thomson (Australian politician)" would avoid all except very exceptional such coincidences." This is in accordance with WP:REDNOT: "Redlinks to personal names should be avoided ... Frequently a redlinked name has been placed in an article, and subsequently a different editor has created an article about an entirely different person with the same or a similar name....". I don't propose to continue; so far, each edit I make has had more information in the edit summary, and I have said as much can be said in a summary. I note that I made an edit, and reverted changes twice, with explanation; but Orderinchaos, belying his username, reverted 22:23, 28 July 2011; 11:01, 29 July 2011; 12:25, 29 July 2011; by my reckoning this is 3 times within a 24-hour period. Orderinchaos has clearly made 3 reversions in 24 hours and violated a guideline on name redlinking. While guidelines are not binding, it is sensible that in case of disagreement the guideline should be followed until a resolution is reached. In this case a proper solution is simple and clear, instead of redlinkiing a bare name, add a qualifier such as "(Australian politician)". As commonsense has not prevailed in edit summaries, this silly matter will need to go to the Talk page for the article to see what others think.

Re: Polish Wikipedia's editor in Australia

Hi! The only person I know for sure is Michał Rosa. He's a veteran editor of Polish Wikipedia and he lives in South Australia. Obviously there are many more editors who actively contribute to articles on Australia, but I'm not sure which of those editors actually live in Australia. There are 640,000+ villages in India (with an average of 2.5 spelling variants each); recently there was an attempt to disambiguate articles on the basis of these names. We get over it. Hey, I've just seen your merge suggestion on Engadine Public School. If you want to merge the article into Engadine, New South Wales feel free to do so. I would do it but I'm not too sure on the whole merging process.

WA coords

Hello, flick passing one to you- Suburb coords for Clifton, Coodanup and Erskine are incorrect (check via Google maps) but are identical to [11] coords, presumably because they have been split into smaller suburbs and the coords have fallen off the edge. Kotara High School source?

I am looking at the school info on Adamstown, New South Wales which you added long ago (2008). Do you have a reference for this you might recall (in particular the mention of KLN Collegiate or the three major high schools)? I couldn't find mention on google or the schools own website, but I didn't want to just delete without checking as I've found info like this sometimes isn't on the net.
