Citations to Hasso Plattner article

Hi Non-dropframe, I was wondering if you might take a quick look at the talk page for Hasso Plattner? I'm trying to add missing citations to the article, but have had no luck thus far in terms of requesting edits/getting them made. I think the citations would strengthen the article immensely. Harper70 Hello! As far as citations go, you can actually add them yourself if you like. Read WP:CITE which describes how to add citations. Also be sure to review WP:VERIFY which describes the type of sources acceptable to use. Further, if the subject's book is notable, it can certainly be added with a citation. wow....I made some important corrections and clarifications....and they were ignored!

Oh gosh.....Why did I bother with this attempt to correct and improve the info on loons, which I have studied for 23 years? I suppose this is an automatic system that disregards the changes one makes? Was this response simply because I failed to log in? How disheartening!

My corrections were carefully considered to improve the content. I corrected the error that loons use their wings while swimming by deleting a short passage. I also clarified how they take off, which they do NOT do by "swim[ming] into the wind" as the document currently says, but by running across the water with wings flapping. Finally, I added important new data from the U.S. Geological Survey (not my data, but good solid data from scientists with whom I have worked in the past) that shows precisely how far loons DO fly on migration. I was struggling to add a link to the website at USGS, where they provide these data. It is http://www.umesc.usgs.gov/terrestrial/migratory_birds/loons/questions.html.

I mean.....does Wikipedia want to provide information this is current and of high quality....or not? Seriously.

Is this just because I did not log in? I am sorry if that was necessary. I am not trying to hide. I am Walter Piper of Chapman University and have studied loons in northern Wisconsin for 23 years. I have a website at loonproject.org that tells about me and what I do.

I really am just trying to improve content. I am sad to see that this was a waste of time.

Clearly you know way more about wiki than I do. I know you are a busy guy :) But can you maybe give me just one tip on what a good redirect might look like in respect to games/ and video games genre. Hey, Falewin, I'd be happy to help you out as much as I can. Here is a page all about redirects (a little tip: Typing "WP:" in the search box enables you to search for Wikipedia related pages like information and policy pages). In short, redirects are contentless pages that exist to send the reader to another page. Redirects should be plausible. So, for example, redirecting "JFK" to "John F. Kennedy" would be a plausible redirect. However, redirecting "JFK 1(5^" to "John F. Kennedy" would not be a good redirect as the likelihood of anyone making that typo or thinking the page might be located there is next to zero. You can create a redirect with this code: #REDIRECT [[TARGET PAGE]]. Simply replace the "target page" text with the name of the page you wish to redirect to. ZanesyPoodle the animal is known most widely as the "Giant tortoise" and the title of the article should remain that per WP:COMMONNAME. Further, per Template:Infobox animal, "The given name of the animal. Use the common name, typically name of article, if multiple names are used." Finally, your edit broke the displayed image. While reviewing some changes to a lottery-related page, I found this edit by you (using Huggle) where you changed correct but unsourced information back to an incorrect and unsourced version. This revert was unexpected from an editor with your extensive history. Is there any particular reason I should not restore the correct info to the article? Etamni, reviewing that edit, I certainly don't recall making it. You are indeed correct to wonder why it would be reverted -- I'm wondering the same myself. I'm not sure if it was a mistake on my part or an issue with the software (Huggle is a bit buggy on the Mac OS). No worries. :) The IP user who posted the material has a habit of putting unsourced information into lottery-related articles, and has been doing so for years (first lottery-related edit from the IP address was nearly eight years ago). My review of the user's edits, however, show very few were questionable, other than the lack of citations. Personally, given that the information is so easy to verify, I've been treating it as WP:BLUE and adding citations when anyone else has questioned the material. The IP user really should include references, but I'm uncomfortable making a big case out of it given that the edits all appear to be made in good faith. In any case, I've restored the info and removed the warning for non-constructive editing.

Airtical

Hey there: I came across the article Airtical and noticed that you'd tagged it for speedy deletion under WP:CSD G7 after the page's creator blanked the page. I noticed that after you tagged it, the page's creator "unblanked" the page and removed the speedy delete tag. I restored the tag since article creator's aren't supposed to remove the tags themselves, but then I realized perhaps the tag isn't relevant anymore since the page is no longer blank. Just thought I'd ping you in case you had any thoughts on this. If you still think the article should be deleted, perhaps the reason for speedy deletion should be reclassified. Thanks! Fred_Gandt, my personal opinion is that content is non-free and should therefore be removed from wherever it is. I have no problem with the splits and will stay out of your way there but that content should be removed if it's split or not. The article's talk page is the best place to go in order to build an article through consensus rather than fighting over opinion. It's to let other users know what you did and why. JustLiz, basically, things on Wikipedia should be notable. What this means is that they've gotten in-depth third party coverage from other sources. For example, if a newspaper or similar outlet covered your event, that may be evidence of notability. Review the guidelines and I'd highly suggest going on the Wikipedia adventure to get a good overview of contributing to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure that the original use of the term was properly noted. Generally, in order to demonstrate notability, you need reliable third party sources. Unfortunately, a link to your MySpace page wouldn't qualify. Second, because you're closely related to the subject, you have a conflict of interest. COI editing is highly discouraged. Frankly, Wikipedia doesn't exist to ensure you receive credit or to build a case for a trademark. Finally, the page as it's currently written seems highly promotional. If you'd like information on constructively contributing to Wikipedia, this is a good place to start, and I'm always happy to answer further questions or clarify what I've said. Tisa, I suggest reading the General Notability Guideline to begin with. This is the main "bar" by which inclusion is judged. In short: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." This "significant coverage in reliable sources" is what must be demonstrated with references. You'll need to be able to prove, again, with references to reliable sources, that the term was coined in the manner which you claim. Tisa, unfortunately, this wouldn't qualify as a reliable source. This is a primary source while Wikipedia requires secondary and tertiary sources. If you review the notability guideline which I referred you to, it defines each term ("reliable," "independent," etc.) very thoroughly. I would suggest you slow down and take a step back. Even if the article gets deleted, it's not gone forever and can be re-created at a later time with much stronger content. As a doctor, I'm sure you've written your share of research papers so draw on that experience, asking yourself how you'd properly establish basic facts from secondary sources. Speedy deletion of London Emperors

Hi. I was aware that the article London Emperors could be nominated for deletion, and therefore, I kept it as a stub. However, I thought it would survive the night (in Sweden) when I slept. I can understand that the London Emperors are still more on the project level than a hockey team, but if the club meets the requirements from KHL due to 30 April, they are members of the second largest hockey league in the world. If the KKL not allow them, they will probably try to join the EIHL What was the main issue with for the deletion? This is a subjective matter (though I am pretty sure you will disagree). If every single unsourced statement had to be sourced? Why leave so many such as the following; "King Leopold II demanded that Stanley take the longer route via the Congo River, hoping to acquire more territory and perhaps even Equatoria."

The choice of the route Stanley used is a matter of some extensive debate and so one would therefore like to have this sourced too. But you see no need to remove that and many other statements. Your focus and that of others, whether intentional or not (though I suspect it is intentional), is pretty clear to me.

Your response obviously is that I should therefore go ahead and remove those I consider candidates for removal/correction. I actually do that and unfortunately, it is not feasible to do so for each and every statement like that I come across. On the other hand, you (meaning the person(s) who have been deleting it) have made it goal to see nothing I add here go unchallenged. Even when a source is added, you cannot avoid feeling the need to add a counter argument.

My point is that even adding a source will not satisfy you and others like you because your end goal is something else.

Sometimes, too high a premium is placed on sources. If a source is the threshold to get a statement added, I could easily get a source which merely supports my view point. What good does it do?

Actually, since the statement is actually a fact from reading Stanley's own material, I will go ahead and add a wonderful citation.

Regarding the above edit, I noticed that someone removed it altogether and that actually proves my point; there is an effort among some folks to make sure that any negative material (even correctly cited), must be counterbalanced and cannot be the last word on HMS. So, an uncited claim such as what I provided earlier, is left for years because it does not paint HMS in a negative light. But the minute a single phrase is added which is cited but may paint him in any negative way, it irks some of us so much that we cannot bear see it as the last word.

I saw the message you just sent me about my edit. What I stated is that certain language is ABSENT from Stanley's books. How am i supposed to cite that? Hello, 206.209.15.6. As you may imagine, vandalism from school IPs is very common. It's dealt with in much the same way as any other IP vandalism (increasingly stern warnings and, if needed, a block). Blocks don't stop people at an IP from viewing the encyclopedia, only from editing. If vandalism persists over time and short-term blocks don't do the job, the IP of a school may be blocked indefinitely (see WP:SCHOOLBLOCK). The best way not to have to worry about being blocked is simply to register for an account. Loging in as a user, even from a blocked IP, will allow you to edit.
