Support of lockdown

I support your decision to lock down the Che Guevara article for 5 days ... and believe that actually a lockdown of a month may even be needed ... especially considering the height of editor's passions and intractability of current disputes. A “lengthy” cooling down period for all parties on the article, may be in good order. Thanks. Redthoreau (talk TR 21:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you relock the article for 7 more days to allow the editors more time to discuss the necessary changes ? Thanks. Redthoreau (talk TR 17:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bhindranwale

I'm getting fed up with vandalism by Ajjay.

I would appreciate some input from you, as I see you as pretty fair.

Firstly he keeps on saying Bhindranwale Mastered Punjabi. He didn't.

Bhindranwale did not master any language PERIOD - its like saying PeeWee Herman mastered English Language. Its nonsense.

Bhindranwale could speak Punjabi to some extent like any peasant, but to suggest he mastered it or had a Masters in Punjabi is totally false. Like any other religious fundamentalist, he had a single agenda based on the segregation between Sikhs and non-sikhs which led to brutality against various communities by armed terrorists (now banned)

Secondly, the Sikh 'national' anthem "Deh Shiva....is always vandalised by Ajjay, I hope you get a chance to see what I mean, thanks, Dave 'Boy' Green (Student of Indology) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.3.244 (talk) 01:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC) See your talk page. Nishkid64, I'm afraid you mis-read the findings at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/NisarKand. On 12 Feb RomainSnd was reported as a suspected sock of NisarKand but Alison replied that RomainSnd was instead a sock of Khampalak. I have rechecked all the findings and commented at RFCU/Khampalak. Hello again

Have you checked the Sikh article. Please do me a favour and clean it up. If you decide to do it then

  • Fix the spaces, esp. in representation section. (huge gaps)
  • re-write ref. to harward citations.
  • remove pov(there is lots of it, esp. relating to op blue star and gandhi etc.) please fix without any major changes.

If you get in edit war with some pov editor, i will back you up(as if you can,t handle that, I still remember my edit war with you).ThanksAjjay (talk) 16:29, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Voynich manuscript

Hi there, I noted a while back at the FAR for this article that you were going to work on sourcing. Did you ever get a chance to dig into that? I'd like to help "save" the article, but it's difficult without having access to the sources. --Laser brain (talk) 20:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching

Hey Nishkid, I'm trying to find somebody who will take User:Rgoodermote under their arms and train help them to become an admin. I've taken a look at Rgooder's edits and think he has potential. The big problem that he has is that he is primarily a Vandal Fighter and isn't into article development... so I was looking for an admin coach who understands vandal fighting and might be able to help Rgooder find the experience he needs to become an admin in other ways. He had a failed RfA which would be a good place to see what areas he needs help with. If you think you might be able to help him out that would be great! Rgooder has over 6000 edits, and unlike most vandal fighter's has earned them over a wide period of time... he's been editing solidly for a over half a year.Balloonman (talk) 06:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Nish, just checking to see if you were interested or unavailable? I would love to have you help Rgooder out, but understand if you can't right now. Either way, could you let me know (here's fine).Balloonman (talk) 05:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beautiful World: Tour Souvenir Edition MERGE

Hi there I am new to Wikipedia's operating system and was wondering if you could merge the abovementioned with the original article 'Beautifu World' ablum as it is just a re-release of the same album. I already opened a Talk page for the merge but nobody seems interested to comment, so seeing your experience in Wiki, could you please kindly merge the 2 together. thank you.Reqluce (talk) 03:15, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Take That Beautiful World Merge

Hi there, the page 'Take That Beautiful World : Tour Souvenir EDITION', as the title suggests, is a RE-RELEASE of an album, ie a different VERSION of the same album even though it contains bonus tracks. Other pages which have been merged include Amy Winehouse's Grammy Award winning album 'Back To Black' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_Black) whereby the Deluxe Edition was merged with the original album, as well as Michael Jackson's most recent re-release 'Thriller 25' which was merged with the original 'Thriller' album. As also stated in the main body of the article, the album is a RE-RELEASE and hence was NOT permitted to chart.

Hence I strongly request a merge, thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reqluce (talkcontribs) 22:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job on "Miss Ima"!
To all of the excellent editors who were part of the Karanacs-led collaboration to bring Ima Hogg to featured status, it was a pleasure working with you on such a fine article about a great lady. Thank you so much for your contribution to this fun collaboration.

Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nishkid, Karanacs is usually off-Wiki on weekends. Since you have the book, can you address this from the FAC?

  • Education section, the last paragraph, seventh sentence. College Women's Club? Which college? Rice? St. Thomas? Another one? There are a number of colleges in Houston.
Otherwise looks pretty good! Ealdgyth - Talk 02:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:54, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's another one, from the talk page at Ima Hogg, are you able to see what the book says on this and add a sentence to her Disposition section?

If you want some dirt to spice up the article, she and Arthur Rubinstein apparently despised each other.[1]Ferrylodge (talk) 14:58, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done I am dismal with Google books; for some reason, I can't make it go. Can someone add something about this? Perhaps under her character and disposition? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:36, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:57, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nishkid, since you have the Bernhard book, and Karanacs is busy on weekends, do you have time to pop over to the talk page and answer some questions using the Bernhard book? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:34, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching

I'm considering an RfA and wonder if you would be able to offer me some assistance? I have nominated Philip H. Farber for deletion. You previously contributed to an earlier AfD on this article and it was suggested that I notify you of the current AfD. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Philip H. Farber (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Biographiq book on D.B. Cooper

Nishkid64, Hey, remember when you added in the "further reading" section on DB Cooper the 2008 book that came out by "Biographiq"? I was intrigued, so I bought a copy off Amazon. I'm not sure if Wikipedia has associations with Biographiq, but very much (as in, darn near the whole thing, and even organized in sub-heads just like wikipedia's article) of the book plagiarizes word for-word the wikipedia article on D.B. Cooper (or at least older versions of it). Is this legal? Just thought I would check, being that I found it odd that I ended up paying for something that I helped write in the first place.Harry Yelreh (talk) 23:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, Nish. I sent an email to the address you provided. We'll see what they say. I wanted to let you know for now: I looked through the book again. It is a virtual carbon copy of the January versions of the Wikipedia D.B. Cooper article, with information up through the Dec. 31, 2007 FBI announcements and complete with the Wikipedia subheads ("You Are Being Hijacked," "Releasing Passengers in Exchange for Demands," etc.). The book does provide a full copy of the GNU Free Documentation License in the back, which apparently is one thing that it takes to get legally cleared through Wikipedia. I still don't know if it's legal, though. We'll find out. I still think at the very least it's disingenuous. If the book had said "Jan. 2008 Wikipedia article" on it, I never would have spent $10 on it. With that in mind, if it's all right with you, I'd like to remove it from the Further Reading section of the article. Because basically, as it is, our Further Reading section is telling readers: "If you want to read a lesser version of the Wikipedia article you just read, check out this book." Furthermore, the product article on Amazon.com claims that the book is 52 pages long. Well, really it's only 50, and 10 of those pages are simply a copy of the GNU Free Documentation License, which apparently allows them to sell this book. In sum, in my honest opinion: the whole thing is a complete rip-off. The "author," Biographiq, (http://www.biographiq.com) apparently has lots of other books like this out. I wonder if they're all based on Wikipedia articles. Harry Yelreh (talk) 05:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weird question

Hey Nish, I got a bit of a weird question. I've decided to get back into mostly editing articles (why I came here in the first place) and I'm trying to improve the article on foregrips, a wonderful little invention that I didn't realize existed (or at least, one I took for granted) until I spent many hours on Call of Duty 4. Improving this article has been a bit of a dog, as there isn't much on the web about this topic (that can be properly referenced) outside of online gun-parts shops. Anyway, I was wondering if you knew any Wikipedians off the top of your head that had extensive gun collections, as the page needs a free image. If not, it's understandable, as I have been a few places already and have yet to find anyone with foregrips. Thanks --SharkfaceT/C 00:21, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kannada literature

Sir, currently this article is in Rfc. So far, the initiator of the Rfc, Fowler, has not been able to disprove any of my citations (please read last para in [3]). user:Abecedare is moderating this whole thing and even did a weekend's research to validate my claims in the article. Perhaps being dissatisfied with the outcome, Fowler is now introducing large amounts of data (UNDUE) into the article, even as Abecedare is working on the content that is acceptable and fair. An edit war is looming here. I and another user (KNM) have asked them to hold off untill Abecedare comes along to resolve it. A highly UNDUE claim is being made about the dating of Halmidi inscription which though Fowler has prouced a few citations, pales in front of hundred or so citations that give it a more precise date (the one I had used, 450 CE/5th century). Aadal has now joined in the edit warring. I request that the original version be restored so we can give Abecedare the space he needs to resolve the issue amicably. Please lock up the artcle until such a time that Abecedare is ready to mediate. He said he is busy for a couple of days, on Saturday.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:26, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

How are you! hope you are doing well! Regarding Bhindranwale, do you think that the term "hyperactive" "Anti-social" belongs in the article. It is not cited and might, just might be an individuals view. Besides the ref. for "not very intelligent" is contradictory. Please see discussion. Also the intro sys he was a militant leader, recently added, then it must also state him to be a Martyr. I have Tullys ref. which states that "despite govt. propaganda, he remains a martyr for Sikhs". Also well referenced observation by mark Jurgensmeyer , which was added by me was deleted. It needs to be added back. I left a message on talk page of article too. thanks Shalimer (talk) 06:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to be the top contributor to the article, do you have the exact page #'s for some of the books? I split it into notes and refs, similar to Stanley Cup (FA). I'm seeing what else I can do with the article. Than perhaps we can nominate it for FA? Thanks. - Milk's favorite Cookie 20:57, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't had a chance to completely read over the article - although I will go do that now. One other random question: I saw Homi J. Bhabha on your to-do list; is it "Homi J. Bhabha" or "Homi K. Bhabha" according to this? - Milk's favorite Cookie 21:17, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I didn't know. Would you like to go ahead with an FAC? - Milk's favorite Cookie 23:16, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I would still say that the article is overdone with stats, as you mentioned one major problem in its previous FAC. and the references on this article are formatted really oddly. The article is A class + GA. - Milk's favorite Cookie 23:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you can wait until the weekend, I can spend some quality time on it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 23:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We really have to change the title to this. That's obvious POV/weasel words. Anything you would suggest? - Milk's favorite Cookie 23:54, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And "Richard paid $669,000 in a divorce settlement to his ex-wife, Carolyn" Carolyn Richard? Or something else? - Milk's favorite Cookie 00:03, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I doubt it's this That is the only relevant source that comes up. I will however, look for others. - Milk's favorite Cookie 00:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done You can delete the image as well. Milk’s Favorite Cookie (Talk) 01:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you check out the article and/or assess it for GA? Thanks for the help - MILK'S FAVORITE COOKIE (Talk) 22:16, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentoring

Nish, I'm wondering if you'll consider mentoring Milk's Favorite Cookie? I just removed a FAC and left him a notice (he's nommed seriously unprepared articles many times before), and I've just realized he's filled up quite a few good baseball articles with non-reliable sources (you've probably figured out I'm a baseball fan and have worked on baseball articles; I cleaned out Ty Cobb about a year ago, and Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig and J.R. Richard are filled up now with dubious websources). MFC quickly archived my talk message to him, and my past messages don't seem to have hit the mark either. Similar issues came up on his last RfA, so perhaps mentorship would be a good idea, and I was hoping you'd be interested. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely Milk’s Favorite Cookie (Talk) 01:47, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nishkid, I guess our messages crossed in the night :-) Hard to see good baseball players' articles filled up with dubious sources (Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig) after cleaning them up, but it's also troubling that MFC archived my message about his FACs very quickly, while putting up another FAC. At J. R. Richard, are you really comfortable with this source (it looks like a volunteer-drive, Wiki-type site)? I do wish someone could get MFC to slow down and understand sourcing and general Wiki standards; I don't have the list at hand, but I'm pretty sure there have been at least four unprepared noms. Hi...

..then perhaps we should also remove " ..was a militant leader". Militant is also mentioned in the lead section. Besides there are many views as to what he was, we cannot add everything. About crusader, "Surajīta Jalandharī " was the Biographer of bhindranwale. He describes him as a crusader,[4] the book is very rare, so difficult to go through the whole thing.Shalimer (talk) 13:30, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Doremon360

Dear Nishkid64.

I have noticed that Doremon360 (talk · contribs) has been blocked because he has edited like JacquesNguyen. I don't know which policy allows you blocked him that fast without giving a warn, and I strongly disagree with your block. If you suspect he is a sockpurpet of Jacques please request a CU or something like that. Doremon360 has a blog here and he's a member of Vietnamese Wikipedia (vi:User:Doremon360), accroding to his blog and his edits on Vietnamese Wikipedia, he's a man who strongly interested in origin of Vietnamese, it may made hate Chinese character and try to remove it on some Vietnam-related articles, so give him a warn, not a block. I'm writing here to ask you unblock and give him another chance to edit English Wikipedia (I have noted him at Vietnamese Wikipedia that don't remove Chinese character).

P/S: I'm writing in good faith, but my English is bad, so If I made any offensive passage(s) please forgive me.

Sincerely

It's definitely the same person. IPs can be used that don't match the geographical location (as is done in the PRC to evade the government's blocking of Wikipedia), and clearly was in this case. Badagnani (talk) 18:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for unblocking, I'm going to notify Doremon360. He has promised that he will never try to remove Han Tu again (vi:user_talk:Doremon360, by the way, Jacques lives in United States, Doremon360 lives in Vietnam. Magnifier (talk) 18:25, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proof

I would kindly ask you to examine the wording of these two postings, and let me know what you think (take note of the signature, which in both cases has "Thank" without "you").

Also, see blanking of Han tu characters and focus on Southeast Asian bronze drums (both integral to the M.O. of JacquesNguyen and his many alternate accounts."

Thanks for your response. It's getting confusing, as it always does when a virtuoso of sockpuppeteering is in full swing. There have been so many socks all doing the same things, and Doremon appeared at exactly the time JacquesNguyen's most recent sock had been blocked, and began editing the same articles in the same manner. Dimitris P. Kraniotis

Could you undelete the history of Dimitris P. Kraniotis? You deleted this article in 8. Oct. 2006, but it has been recreated in the mean time. The article has major quality issues. But if I remember correctly, some of the deleted versions already had a better quality than the current mess. Access to the earlier article history should speed up the necessary clean-up process. I don't know how else to stop this spammer from abusing Wikipedia for self-promotion… ––plauz (talk) 12:30, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for restoring the history! --plauz (talk) 09:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WG experiment

Hiya, I've started a thread about my experiment at WP:AN: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Hungarian-Slovakian experiment. If you have time, I'd appreciate if you could weigh in there. Thanks, Elonka 12:25, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering about this, too. Any particular reason for blocking yourself? Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:10, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
