There is an ongoing discussion about implementing some kind of standards for administrative and bureaucrat activity levels; and activity requirements for bureaucrats have been explored several times in the past. I've prepared a draft addition to Wikipedia:Bureaucrats that would require at least one bureaucratic action every five years to retain the bureaucrat permission. In the past, I've been hesitant of such proposals but I believe that if the bureaucrat group as a whole is seen to be actively engaged, the community may be more willing to grant additional tasks to the position. Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure if this actually applies to any of us, but if you have not acted as a bureaucrat in over five years, you might consider requesting removal of the permission or otherwise signalling that you intend to return to bureaucrat activity. –xenotalk 14:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC) FYI: bureaucrat discussion opened
A bureaucrat chat has been opened by Maxim at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Rich Farmbrough 2/Bureaucrat discussion. Wikipedia:Bureaucrat discussion suggests notifying bureaucrats on their talk page as well as BN, hence this courtesy note. –xenotalk 16:44, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

The proposal would modify the position of bureaucrat. Your input is encouraged. Please see Wikipedia:Administrators/RfC for BARC - a community desysoping process. Can I ask you a question as an old friend who knows more of Japan than my just a little bit? Am I more or less right that the Japanese full stop is not worth its trouble when carrying it into English titles and running text? What do you think of my recent addition to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Japan-related articles. A bold edit, hoping to induce some response, following a sense of meh after posting at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Japan-related_articles#Japanese_words_spelled_with_the_full_stop. Bureaucrat discussion notification (Liz)I would welcome input from other bureaucrats in relation to the outcome of this RfA.
Your comment at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Liz/Bureaucrat discussionHi, Nihonjoe. With this comment, did you mean to include "not" (as in "are not simply") for the "there are many well-reasoned oppose votes which are simply angry rants or weakly-supported negativity." sentence? Flyer22 (talk) 03:46, 5 August 2015 (UTC) Oh, I see SmokeyJoe beat me to asking above. Flyer22 (talk) 03:47, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Naming lamenessI would accept it as naming lameness if the suggested name was lame. And yet, the state of Virginia and the state of New York have already passed bills recognizing the other name of East Sea for the sea between Korea and Japan. The name "Sea of Japan" was popularized in a 1929 publication of the "Limits of the Oceans and the Seas" by the International Hydrographic Organization, which was released while Korea was under Japanese occupation. As such, many Koreans associate the name ‘Sea of Japan with a long period of occupation and violence. It is not lame to talk about history with facts. What is lame is to deny alternate perspectives and insist absurdly on just your own. Maybe we can call that "absurd insistence". Please do not engage in "absurd insistence". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jisunlim (talk • contribs) 07:31, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

My RfA Crat ChatHello, Nihonjoe, I just wanted to thank you and all of the bureaucrats who participated in the bureaucrat chat after my RfA was closed. There were a lot of votes and comments to go through along with the enormous amount of content on the crat chat talk page. I appreciate the time and care the bureaucrats took to consider all of the arguments and come to a consensus. I never imagined that my RfA would be at all contentious or have such a big turnout. Although I hope you don't have many close call RfAs in the future, I know if you do, that Wikipedia's bureaucrats will find their way to a decision. Thank you again for your work in bringing this RfA to a close. Liz Read! Talk! 18:39, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Implementation of Wikipedia:Bureaucrats#Bureaucrat activity requirementsFollowing a community discussion ending August 2015, consensus was reached to remove the bureaucrat permissions of users who have not participated in bureaucrat activity for three years.
To assist with the implementation of this requirement, please see Wikipedia:Bureaucrat activity. Modeled after Wikipedia:Inactive administrators and similar to that process, the log page will be created on 1 September 2015. Bureaucrats who have not met the activity requirements as of that date will be notified by email (where possible) and on their talk page to advise of the pending removal. If the notified user does not return to bureaucrat activity and the permissions are removed, they will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFB. Removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon the affected user in any way. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. –xenotalk MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:20, 17 August 2015 (UTC) No, I think my edit was justified. One cannot cite the idea that the Sad and Rabid Puppies are entirely unrelated to a Puppy; and it is clearly pertinent that the Puppies were described as a "bunch of white guys". I still also feel that the quote from Gallo is perhaps given undue prominence. Pinkbeast (talk) 03:30, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! If the files get out of sync, the now-different version on the Commons cannot be used on the English Wikipedia. While this is by design and while some people would consider it desirable, I see much more potential harm than potential good. I'm writing because you argue that the presence of the "keep local" template is pretty much automatic grounds to reject any FfD deletion request if the only basis is "an identical version exists on the Commons," but you do not offer a way around the problem of the possibly-different or possibly-will-become-different-in-the-future Commons version being unusable on the English Wikipedia. I would ask you to either join me in recommending that such images generally be "kept and renamed" (along with adding a "do not copy back to Commons under the same name" message to the English file-description page) or come up with some other way for the Commons image to be used on the English Wikipedia if neither image is renamed. In short:

Teenage adminsYou know my position on the recent RfA so feel free to discredit this if you like, but I feel promoted or not a discussion needs to happen on what to do with teenage admin applicants. IP 101 etcI thought I should drop you a line here instead of being bold seeing as this IP is being promoted as being me per an SPI (a check user has been requested and I expect it to show negative) - and changing that shared IP ID you put on that vandal's page. There is no such company as "Australian Toowoomba Telstra", and all of the links I could access through that IP all said Telstra and nothing else (Whois, rDNS etc). So could you change it to just Telstra Pty Ltd? The IP's assertion about Toowoomba is actually irrelevant, not inaccurate as he claimed (if there is such a thing as a difference between the two). Speedy deletion nomination of Hiroshi Kanazawa
A tag has been placed on Hiroshi Kanazawa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
