User talk:NativeForeigner/Archive/Archive-July-Dec2010

It looks like yesterday Krist went and added in images I suggested on the talk page, he was told on the ANI to not do that and let someone else add images, but he went ahead and did it. And 182 went and reverted him again. 182 is WELL beyond 3RR, even ignoring warnings (I gave him a warning last time and he deleted it off his talk page). I don't see any resolution to the issue so long as 182 has the ability to revert, which hes demonstrating he will not stop doing. — raeky (talk | edits) 14:08, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Pages: Paracetamol, Sertraline, Finasteride, and 182 hasn't reverted changes Temazepam here, yet. — raeky (talk | edits) 14:11, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Correction he did revert Temazepam, but I reverted him back since I feel theres now multiple editors who like the new images. — raeky (talk | edits) 14:47, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Also note 182's edit history, he tried to forum shop again to get the pages locked on RfPP, he deleted his last warning from his talk page right after posting the request to lock the pages on RfPP, and was warned again by another admin not to do that. — raeky (talk | edits) 14:29, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

A highly contested article, New Guinea Singing Dog seems at time to be suffer from, among other things, sockpuppets. Please look into it if you can. Chrisrus (talk) 06:02, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Nothing recent though, some IP hopping. I'll keep an eye out and semiprotect/block, if things escalate. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 15:29, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Indianapolis Men and Women's Work Release Program listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Indianapolis Men and Women's Work Release Program. Since you had some involvement with the Indianapolis Men and Women's Work Release Program redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). File:Rodserlingstamp.jpeg listed for deletion

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Rodserlingstamp.jpeg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Re: Batman film (2012) deletion

Two things:

  1. Please userfy it to my userspace.
  2. Please review the citations I added to it tonight.

I had the in use template on the article because I was adding reliable sourced citations because I saw it's AfD listing. The article gets WP:V hits as the result of an interview given by its director, Christopher Nolan to Empire magazine which is cited. Additionally, Wally Pfister back in April spilled the beans on movie, how it would be shot (not in 3D) and that Nolan had greenlighted several concepts. I had cited Pfister's article as well. I think if you review my work and citations, my iVote would have been a Speedy Keep because of the WP:RS citations introduced. I do work on WP:OLD AfDs and hoped to be the deciding vote on this one. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:37, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

BTW, the Empire mag interview with Nolan supposedly took place on June 28, 2010 and hits the stands Monday. However, it is being reported in multiple RS sources as cited. The initial working title is Batman 3 as per several cites I made. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:40, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Oops... bad timing. Should have checked the history closer. Right now it's here, and if you want to move it back into mainspace after adding refs, I'm fine with that. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:46, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I already introduced at least three. It's getting past my bedtime and this is very frustrating to me as an editor first and AfD participator second. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:50, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
What exactly do you want me to do? (I'm looking at it right now, and I see your concerns, but do you want me to relist the AfD, or move it back into mainspace, or? NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:52, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Alright, just undid the close, moved article back. The sources appear to establish notability, but it's getting awfully late for me as well. Go ahead and carry on, and sorry for the interruption :/ NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:56, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't do incubators! I'm so hot now, I'm walking away. Change my iVote to Speedy Delete. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:05, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I participated in the AfD for the article about Nolan's third Batman film. I noticed that the article had been moved into the incubator as per the discussion, but has since been moved back into the mainspace with the incubation tag still on it. What's happening? Cliff smith talk 15:57, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Oh, I see. You closed the AfD, incubated it, someone moved it back out into article space, so you re-opened the AfD, but the article was at another title so another AfD was opened... you should've just sent it back to the incubator and move protected it. I'll do that now. Fences&Windows 13:19, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

This is just an FYI, but I moved your name from the non-admin DYK participants to the admin DYK participants, as you passed your RFA. MC10 (TCGBL) 16:56, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Redirects

Could you just move Indianapolis Men and Women's Work Release Program to Indianapolis Men's Release Center and then delete the incorrect redirect? That seems to be the consensus. Abductive (reasoning) 21:21, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

This may interest you, regarding bringing the article to GA (but probably FA) status after the game is released: User_talk:S@bre#StarCraft_II (and his response is at User_talk:Gary_King/Archive_19#Re:StarCraft_II). Gary King (talk · scripts) 05:27, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd be very willing to pitch in. We probably ought to wait until release before starting though, to be honest. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:32, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
If you read the post you'd know that I'm only willing to work on the article after I've played (and probably beaten) the game ;) Gary King (talk · scripts) 05:48, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
yaya, I did notice that. I thought you just meant spoiler stuff though >< In any case, I'll be willing to work, maybe start cleanup before you've beat it :) . NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:57, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

blocking & reblocking

Hey, you might not have noticed, but you don't have to unblock anymore to change a block -- there's a "change block" option at the block log, and simply attempting to block an already blocked user will give you the option to change it as well. Signed, Mr. Save-a-step. --jpgordon::==( o ) 19:42, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Just asking, not criticizing, but since the IP who was vandalizing has been blocked, does Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories really need to be semi-protected? Everard Proudfoot (talk) 20:35, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Meh, there has been intermittent vandalism, but I'll unprotect and watch the page. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 21:16, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
The vandalism has been more than "intermittent," IMO. I liked the semi-protection. --Weazie (talk) 21:52, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, and congratulations!

Hi, NF. Just wanted to thank you for closing the AfD discussion for International Sustainable Energy Agency (and to congratulate you on your recent admin accession!). A small thing, certainly, but a necessary one, and I think people tend to undervalue wikignome work, and not say "thanks" for it often enough. So thanks! Your assistance please

You declined a WP:CSD#G10 User:Iqinn placed on User:Geo Swan/Iqinn grounds/caveat.

Is it {{prod}} that can only be placed once? Or is it {{csd}}?

User:Iqinn placed a second {{G10}} about 7 minutes after you removed the first.

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 02:27, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

I looked at your suggested rewording, and Iqinn's wording. I preferred yours, so I placed it.
Iqinn reverted it.
I went back to your version. Then I reformatted it slightly, in a way that I think is consistent with the spirit of your suggestion. Geo Swan (talk) 14:07, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

List of Masonic buildings

FYI. I have upgraded the protection level on the List of Masonic buildings article to three days of full protection, since the RfPP request cited a content dispute and requested full protection. (Generally, full protection is used for a content dispute to force auto-confirmed editors to resolve their differences in the talk page. See WP:Protection policy#Content disputes. Please pardon me if I'm telling you something you already know.) Feel free to update as you see fit if you disagree. By the way, congratulations on your successful RFA and associated broom handle. -- Tom N (tcncv) talk/contrib 01:27, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Meh, must've been a mis-click. I'm quite aware of the protection policy :) NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 00:29, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure whether or not I am allowed to reply to this box so I've decided to do it here. I had thought for a while now, after abandoning the investigation, that it had been further commented upon and closed, with some hopeful result or outcome. I simply stopped posting on the page after the user nearly vanished (as seen here) almost subsequently after the Omega Point (Tipler) article, a page to which said user had made significant and important contributions, had been converted into a redirect per the general consensus on the talkpage. Frankly speaking, it doesn't seem that important anymore, after Jamiemichelle seemed a bit more willing to cooperate. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 06:24, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

New Emile(producer) redirect

Since you were the closing admin on the recent AfD, I figured I'd bring the new redirect to your attention. What are the rules regarding notability of redirects? What about redirects of an article that has already failed AfD? Padillah (talk) 14:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

That's debatable. Emile is mentioned once. I'm not willing to delete it off the bat, but it might be worth bringing to RfD. WP:REDIRECT is the policy, and it's a little ambiguous in cases like this. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 16:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I see you've declined an AIV report for this user - we usually block evident vandalism-only accounts without the usual 4 warnings (it doesn't look like the user is here to contribute positively based on that diff). It'd probably be best to block in case the user comes back, but I can watch I guess. Cheers, Connormah (talk) 04:19, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

On second thought - I'm going to AGF and give another chance, though I'll watch. Cheers! Connormah (talk) 04:31, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Pryan97 (talk) 05:41, 10 September 2010 (UTC) Hi! I've seen that the Institute for Strategy and Reconciliation page was deleted, and I'd like to make a new one (with many references - so that it doesn't get deleted again). It said to contact you if it includes similar content, and it's mostly the same except for phrases that were pointed out during the discussion in addition to some parts. I really don't want to see my work get deleted again, so any advice would be most appreciated!

Hey NF, are you going to run again for coordinator? Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 18:19, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Still considering. I haven't done a whole lot for milhist, but I"m still borderline interested. I'm finally getting back more into content, and I figure I'll throw my name in. (Might as well). Just indecisive. I'll meet the deadline if interested in any case, if you ahve any input on what I should do feel free to say so. IN any case, I just checked out 19 books that mentioned the USS Washington. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 18:39, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

First attempt at SPI

Hey there. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction. I could use a little help if you don't mind. I just looked at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ksweith and blocked all the confirmed accounts. Is that the right way to go about it? Do we block accounts that haven't edited (in this case, SMA1989) even if they're confirmed? And what's the right way to handle that IP? Based on this edit they claim not to be the editor. Probably not going to indef block based on this, but the record is there, so if edits from that IP come through won't they just be blocked long term? — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 03:08, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, generally you would block those without edits. Even I'm unsure on what to do with the IP, admittedly. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 03:49, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

AN3

Good close - welcome to the team :). I put the result in the section heading to make it easier to see the backlog at a glance, but other than that all your ies appear dotted and aitches crossed. Looking at the level of discussion and editing, I concur that blocking that particular editor and no others was a better solution than blocking multiple editors or protecting the article. Sufficient notice of 3RR was given, and yet the edit warring continued. Best regards, - 2/0 (cont.) 12:09, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

SPI clarification

Hello, NativeForeigner. Could I ask you for a clarification on this edit of yours? You said the account was stale, yet I see that it has been used as recently September 17, 2010. Am I misunderstanding your edit? Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 00:54, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

I saw your response on the SPI page. I have a question, but rather than clutter that investigation page, I will ask it here. When two editors, TruthfulPerson and myself, are trying to reach consensus on a talk page about whether to include certain content in an article, and then a third editor, using the static IP of 24.193.146.146, joins the discussion in agreement with TruthfulPerson -- is that not an abusive use of sockpuppetry if I discover they are the same person? And if it is, do I really have no recourse, as you say, because you do not use checkuser to link IPs to accounts? What would you suggest I do? Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 02:42, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
No, you have recourse. If it's obvious we can block without checkuser. I'll look through the contribs, and more than likely block. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 02:44, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Hang on a sec... I just realized the links I provided aren't the correct ones. (Wow - you responded fast). Let me see if I can correct it. Xenophrenic (talk) 02:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. The above example situation is correct after all. I needed to find this edit to confirm for you that 24.193.146.146 = TruthfulPerson, as confirmed by himself. (Sorry for the delay, 30+ windows open with diffs from all the socks...) Xenophrenic (talk) 03:06, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Shortly after you blocked a couple of TruthfulPerson's IPs, NeutralityPersonified (talk · contribs) was created, and immediately picked up the talking points of TruthfulPerson on talk pages. Does this mean the editor has opted to drop the Truthful persona in favor of a Neutral persona? I would still like a checkuser performed, and I don't think there are any "privacy" issues involved in doing so. It would be the only viable way to nail down the components of what appears to be an inevitable sock-farm. I count several blocks and numerous warnings spread among his many IDs, which in itself is an "abusive sockpuppetry" violation of policy by avoiding scrutiny; the dispersal of his editing history across numerous accounts. Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 19:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
CU endorsed. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 22:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
This editor seems to have gone underground for more than a week, and the SPI case has been archived. Hopefully, the problems won't flare up again. I just thought I'd stop by and say thanks for the time and effort you put into the matter. Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 23:12, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't want to run over your 'turf' or do double the work with a possible sock. :P Could we get this to close soon? -- DQ (t) (e) 12:28, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Need Some Help

I have seen the "Why was my article deleted?" question posed some many times, I have actually created a page (to be used as a template) about it. You can find it here. What I need, is I feel some examples are missing and the ones I have are lacking. Could you look it over and see what is missing? I don't want to add this to a person's page with missing information and not be able to answer their question. - NeutralhomerTalk05:23, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

hidden archive top

FYI, since you were the one who closed the AfD on that template. I've removed the AfD closure notice from the page. The AfD discussion lasted less than 24 hours, which is way too hasty, and I don't believe we can honestly claim that result as meaningful. If you disagree, we should probably take it up over at Pump (policy) for clarification.

P.s. did you mean to link to wp:SNOW in your closure? It seems an odd choice, unless you were trying to imply that the AfD should not have been begun in the first place. --Ludwigs2 03:16, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

You're probably right. It was withdrawn by nom, and there weren't any other !votes for delete Nonetheless, I suppose it should run its course. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:11, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Eh, it's not a big issue. I'm copacetic with the outcome, I just would rather treat the whole thing as dismissed rather than resolved. If the issue comes up again, it will run its full course, and those out there who really do dislike the template will get a chance to speak their peace. probably have the same outcome, but you never know, and it's better to resolve those doubts explicitly. other than that, life is good. --Ludwigs2 06:00, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I have added two links to a newspaper, vill that be sufficent? Cecilia Anderson (talk) 18:47, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Probably not unfortunately. I'll look for more information. We need to have more than a cursory mention, such as him being behind a poll. I'd like it to be included, so I'll look for further information that would qualify him. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 02:57, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

As far as I can understand is the mention, or to be more precise mentions, there are two of them, far from cursory, that is; without the poll, no articles. Are you putting a different meaning into cursory? And one might ad that this is not a mention, it's a bit more.

I know he hit the front page om a "IT news paper" (a daily) But that is several years ago, the actual edition is not available electronically. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cecilia Anderson (talkcontribs) 10:45, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

I might find one or two other articles. Those are, I think, old. If I find them, is it possible to upload Pdf files? Or are the only articles suitable, those that already are on the web? Cecilia Anderson (talk) 20:05, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

You can't upload it as it would be a copyright violation. Just name the articles. It is fine if they aren't on the web. In what way is he mentioned in these articles? NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 22:33, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I´m not sure in what way he is mentioned. I will have to dig them out first. This is back in 1990-1995. Could you please take away the timestamp or whatever it is called. It seems to me that the time is somewhat scarce...Cecilia Anderson (talk) 14:40, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Xenobot request

Hi, NativeForeigner, there's a question at User talk:Xenobot Mk V/requests#WP:MILHIST that you might be able to clear up. Its about creating a category list. Would you mind taking a look if you get a chance, please? Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 07:39, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Please reconsider check user at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Cmagha

The similar writing style between accounts, the timing, and the editing of each other's user pages/comments is too much of a coincidence in my opinion to reasonably view this as a case of meatpuppetry. I personally think these are all socks. I respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision, but understand if you stick to your most recent ruling.4meter4 (talk) 06:35, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

I've commented at the SPI. I think you're initial assessment was the correct one. Cheers! TNXMan 14:11, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for Helping Out

I thank you for helping me semi-protecting the San Francisco Giants article. I have suspected that some unidentified people were trying to modify the article and I am worried that someone is trying to vandalize the article. I do not vandalize the article, and I am committed to adding sources for Wikipedia whenever possible to back up what is mentioned in the article.

Please do let anyone know that I personally do not tolerate any added statements in a sports article without reliable sources, as I do consider that plagiarism, since sports articles relies on cited sources.

Again, thanks for the heads-up! CHAK 001 04:18, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

No problem. Best of luck with editing :) NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 04:19, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

German x-wiki vandal reported yesterday at WP:ANI

I made this report:

You responded:

"It's more of a meta problem. Also rangeblock of all of the IPs is impossible: it's an ungodly range, and although I have suspicions as to how the person is doing this, it's still ridiculous how many IPs he has. The IPs not in the hide tags are a /27 which although doable, is awfully large, and there are some useful contribs c oming out of it, so I"m reluctant to do it locally."

I took your advice and went to Meta with the problem; the answer, I think, will be to globally block individual IPs as they appear.

I was intrigued by this part of your comment:

"…it's an ungodly range, and although I have suspicions as to how the person is doing this, it's still ridiculous how many IPs he has…"

I've just assumed the person is using some mix of the following:

  • Multiple public computers in various places (Internet cafes, etc.)
  • Dial-up modems
  • DSL or cable broadband modems which he resets to get a new IP as necessary

I've not bothered to analyze the IP patterns beyond making this set of assumptions. Is there something I'm missing? Is there something more systematic going on?

I posted a note last month at de.wikipedia's "embassy page"

I got one response which referred me to 2 user subpages:

"Looks like a well known vandal, specialy that part with redirects looks very familiar. Check w:de:Benutzer:Entlinkt/Troll and w:de:Benutzer:Seewolf/Troelle#Unsinnsweiterleitungen"

I don't know if there's more info there that could be useful or that tells us more than what we already know. Having said that, this person is more interesting than most of our disruptive editors and I think there are some odd psychological dynamics going on, so I'm interested in any additional insight you might have.

Regards, --A. B. (talkcontribs) 20:47, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I think he's just mass resetting IPs/using maybe modems. I don't think that any of them but a couple are public, but I think he must have som e tech knowledge to skim through many so quickly. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 22:26, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

You tweaked the pic for the main page, so you might want to upload at Commons as I've deleted the local copy. --Stephen 22:32, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Dashbot/F5

NativeForeigner, I'm curious about your protection on DashBot/F5 (* Note: I have no reason to want it disabled as I don't do anything with images, I happen to see this while I was gnoming * ). That's a ahutoff button set up for that bot.....I checked your archives first but saw nothing on it. KoshVorlon' Naluboutes Aeria Gloris 16:24, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Long long ago at WP:RFPP. Bot owner requested protection because it was being unnecessarily shut down a ton. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 23:06, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Is there anything that you can do for me here ? After a couple of weeks of hard work and doing everything that I have been asked to do by the interested editor, I seem to have reached an impasse. Please advise. Thanks ! logger9 (talk) 03:02, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the late response, but it appears to have been resolved. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 00:46, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello

A while ago you enforced a permanent block for dozens of sockpuppets against a user called User:Vega61(overall, a sock of Yattum). I was wondering if it would be possible to do an investigation on User:E_Bilko. Vega61 made numerous edits to the page Military Aircraft Insignia, replacing valid SVG roundels and markings with inferior and often incorrect PNGs and SVGs of his own work, often with minimal sources. He was pushy, rude, and did not accept proof from others when he was wrong. User: E Bilko is now in a similar pattern, so similar infact that I would bet very much that he is indeed another sock of Yattum. I've been watching for over a month, and am now absolutely certain. His behaviour, his wording, his work, all are almost identical. This includes the uploading of the exact same file by first Vega61, and now by E Bilko. The way he names his files are also extremely similar, and I can give alot of evidence towards this. He appears to only wish to promote and force his work on here against valid files. IDK how to start an investigation myself, but I felt you would be the best person to contact, considering your enforcing the block on Vega61. Fry1989 (talk) 03:30, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Sock of PCE

I have reverted an edit of User:72.185.171.33 whom you blocked indefinitely as a sock of User:PCE but is now editing at full bore. Thought you might like to be aware. Regards.  Velella  Velella Talk   20:08, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Just wondering what happened with this case. Are we still on hold, or can it be put up for a CU or something? — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 16:57, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
