Yes, I know these pages were short and lacked content, but you must know it takes time to write a long and informative page on wikipedia. I think these qualify under {{R from another language}} since they are the original language names for the article in question (Feitian space suit), so are indeed likely search terms. Hi there, this is a difficult one & I can see both sides of the coin. I've tried to see if there is a consensus by looking through Category:Redirects from alternative languages but I'm still not sure. I have always read the "redirect from another language as being more related to things such as Kyiv (topical one that one - read the talk page! - but I digress), or Das Wohltemperirte Clavier rather than a literal transalation of every article's name in to other languages, particulary those with non-Latin character sets. This is why I feel that the two (Mandarin?) words/phrases you have mentioned equally fall in to the territory of unlikely/implausible phrases for a person to type on the English language Wikipedia. But the bottom line is that I am one admin & one opinion (which is a valid opinion but equally is far from unchallengable). The redirects were speedily deleted so as there was no deletion discussion there is no community consensus for their deletion which means that you are free to recreate. Well, there's the essay Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Redirects from foreign languages . The article's name is a phonetic and literal translation of the actual name. (ie. It's a chinese spacesuit, the actual name is in chinese, not English). From the bit about non-Latin characters, doesn't that indicate bias, since English is used in Hong Kong as an official language, where Chinese characters are prevalent, or India, where non-Latin script is common and English is widely used. But we already use a lot of implausible names that people would type for actual article names (all the non-ASCII ones, and particularly, the widespread use of eszett, a non-English, non-Roman character, that is very likely to be interpretted as a "B" or beta). 70.51.8.75 (talk) 06:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

It appears you have deleted this page back in August, due to it being a Non-Noteable Student Club?
I set up this page some years back to acurately reflect the history of this club, and after 2007 it was left to the Club to continue to update it. The Club is still a prominent club within the Loughborough Athletic Union. Can you please reverse the deletion?
Hi there Eltep. Yes, the article was deleted in August as it had been proposed for deletion due to lack of notability. I have just reviewed the text again and I have to say that I think that the original tagging and subsequent deletion were absolutely correct. Our notability guidelines say that if the club has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, then it can be presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article and I see no assertion of notability in the article and have been unable to find anything in the news archives either. You mention above that the club is "prominent within the Loughborough Athletic Union" which I have no doubt is true however for inclusion in Wikipedia it needs to be notable in a wider context and for this reason I am unwilling to restore the page. You recently performed a history merge on Matt Hazard and Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. These were separate articles on separate subjects with parallel editing histories and should have been handled with a regular merge and redirect. Merging the histories has resulted in versions of the two articles being interleaved, muddling the edit history. Pagrashtak13:46, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

I got your name on the Administrators list - we have not met yet.
I tried to post a biographical article about a business executive named Norris Lozano this morning and it was speedily deleted.
The reason given was "advertising" - which gives me some guidance about how to fix it. I'd like the opportunity to edit the piece down and take out the editorializing and just stick with the facts. I think the subject of the bio is valid.
I don't know what happens here, what if I were to edit the piece down and re-submit it? I've searched the site, but it seems like there is no "second chance"(?) in cases like this.
Could you please give me some guidance about what I can do next?

University of Limerick Computer Society
What was the contents of the talk page for the University of Limerick Computer Society at the time of your deletion? I hadn't had a chance to add/check it between the time I placed the {{hangon}} tag and your deletion of the page.
The contents of the page was not a recreate of prior content as you had given for your reason for deletion. The content had been modified to remove/modify and parts that weren't necessary and to add new content.
Also, I believe the reason the page was tagged for deletion was that the page wasn't notable. I believe that a quick Google search for the University of Limerick Computer Society will return ~438,000 results[1], and SkyCon, an event run within the last 18 months, which as I noted on the talk page at the time of deletion even gets ~12,800 results[2] (on top of receiving national media coverage at the time.) The {{hangon}} tag had been on the article for a few minutes shy of 16 hours before it was deleted (hangon added by you at 01:32 UTC, page deleted by me at 17:27 UTC)
The talk page had not been edited for over 15 hours when it was deleted and the content was as follows - As one of the central Computer Societies/Netsocs in Ireland it's kinda hard to say that it isn't notable. When companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Sun Microsystems, and Ericsson have all sent representatives to give talks within the past 18 months and some of these talks have received national media coverage and online streaming coverage too from LugRadio The event SkyCon should probably have it's own page based on the content of the talks and the people/groups/companies that gave talks during the course of the event. With regard to the wider question of notability I have performed the google test as you suggest but get slightly different results and as far as I can see the Society's notability has not changed at all since the original deletion discussion so I think it highly probable that even if it were re-written to avoid a further G4 speedy deletion it would be sent straight back for another AFD which I am sure would result in a consensus for deletion on the basis of lack of notability.
For a general google on "University of Limerick Computer Society" I get only 70 ghits in which I can't see anything other than primary sources, blogs and listings. (note that for the true number of hits you need to go to the last page of results rather than relying on the estimate on the first page)
A google news search (all dates) on "University of Limerick Computer Society" produces a single ghit which is an ad type listing from December 2007.
Similar tests on "University of Limerick Computer Society" + "SkyCon" produce 28 general ghits - again primary sources, blogs and listings - and the same solitary listing when searching google news (all dates).
Thanks for the feedback - some of the time it's hard to get feedback on wikipedia these days. I was originally hoping that since the page had been off wikipedia for a period of about a year that by reinstating it with updated content and cleaning up what the old page had been like would have been enough to suffice especially since SkyCon hadn't been run yet when the old article had been in place.

Hi Sameer. Sorry to step in, and I'm sure Nancy will have a reply as well, but the page page you are looking for is WP:RFA. I would advise that most administrators are not granted the tools with much less than 3,500 edits across various parts of the encyclopedia. Hi there Sameer. As Pedro has mentioned there is a formal process for becoming an administrator which can be found at WP:RFA. I have done a quick check on your contributions so far (summary can be found here) and whilst RFA has no specific minimum requirements I would make the following observations:
Your total edit count in all areas is 380. You would probably need to add a 0 on to the end of that to stand much of a chance at RFA - whilst edit count is not the be all and end all, it is a reasonable indicator of general experience and most editors look for a minimum of 3000-4000 edits in a potential administrator.
Most of your edits lack an edit summary - edit summaries are considered an important communication tool and you should always try to leave one even for the most minor of edits. If you look in your preferences you will find an option to force the use of edit summaries and I stringly recommend you switch it on - you'll soon find that it becomes a habit to leave one and you won't need reminding!
The vast majority of your contributions so far have been in article space and there is nothing wrong with that - it's what we're here for, however.... at RFA people will want to see evidence of participation in "admin related areas" as they will use this as a gauge of your understanding of things like blocking policy and deletion policy. I would suggest starting off by lurking at places like articles for deletion and administrators intervention against vandalism leading to participation if and when you feel confident. You might also watchlist the administrators noticeboard to get a feel for what sort of things admins are needed to do.

You were right the first time (most) templates should be substituted so that they are not affected by later (year later) changes in the wording etc. Also better for the servers I believe. As far as I know there is no policy which says that new accounts and IPs can't participate in AFD discussions - and often those that do bring valid and interesting points of view to the table - but what we do need to do is make sure that we identify where the process is being abused as looks to be the case in this particular discussion. I don't think we need to worry too much about this one - all the contributions by single-purpose accounts have been tagged as such, plus none of their keep rationales are based in any kind of policy so I can't see any closing admin giving much (if any) weight to those !votes and to be honest if the final outcome is anything other than Delete then I would expect to see the case at deletion review! Just a quick FYI: an interim HC (like Dabo Swinney) is notable as per plenty of WP:CFB precedent, since they (1) come from key coordinators who often warrant articles on their own, (2) often become the permanent HC, and (3) D-IA college football is larger than many international sports leagues in terms of money, viewership and media coverage. --Bobak (talk) 18:27, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

My article about artist Kent St. John was recently deleted by you. I've reviewed the reason why this was done and completely understand you were following simple deletion procedure based on A7 (bio): Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person. Below is my initial argument as to why this person should be considered important and significant enough to have a Wikipedia page. After reading this, if you still find the article (and argument to keep the article live) too weak, I would value your advice on what should be added to the article in order to make it notable enough. Please review the following regarding the deletion of Kent St. John
This page was specifically created to mainly highlight artist Kent St. John's involvement with The Dear Hunter art book project. He is referred to in three separate Wikipedia articles that discuss this particular project. You can view them here:
All other information is purely biographical based off of personal and public works by St. John. This information only delivers additional, factual insight into what St. John has worked on and he is working on currently, for an audience that may be interested in further exploring his career.
In addition, St. John's works are public and are becoming more and more notable among growing web communities (such as forums pertaining to The Dear Hunter, as well as newsletters involving St. John's work with The Unlimited Freedom Castle). Thus the chance of individuals from these communities researching St. John on google.com or wikipedia.org to learn more about his career, is becoming more likely.
In conclusion I would ask for this page to not be deleted. If there are concerns expressed regarding extraneous information about St. John's career that is deemed not notable, then I'd like to open a discussion about that information, and why it should or should not be deleted.
As you say, the article was deleted because it did not indicate the importance and significance of the subject; this is the very first step in demonstrating notability and is necessary to prevent an article being "speedy deleted" as happened with this one. Once over that hurdle, the article has to meet Wikipedia's clearly defined definition of notability and in this case the specific criteria for the notability of "creative professionals" which can be found at WP:CREATIVE. What you need to do is first check that Kent meets the notability requirement but then, and most importantly, you must prove it by showing that he has been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent and independent of the subject. This is explained in more detail at the top of the notability for biographies guideline.
Also I must mention the issue of your potential conflict of interest. I am assuming from your username that you either are Kent himself or editing on behalf of him? Whilst it is not specifically disallowed, people editing articles about themselves is strongly discouraged as we recognise that closeness to a subject may make it very difficult to be neutral - a good rule of thumb is that if a subject is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia then likely an uninvolved editor will be along soon enough to create a page. Wikipedia can be a bit daunting at first as it takes a while to get your head round all the policies and guidelines - indeed most people don't even realise there are any - but I hope this helps to explain a little & I will leave you a welcome message with some other handy links on your talk page. I noticed that the Sylva Foundation page was deleted but this seems to have taken place despite the fact that I arranged for an email to be sent to you authorising the text from the organisation.
Can it be reinstated please? If so, there is more work that could be done to improve the content and originality.
I would imagine that the page got deleted becuase the email has not yet been recieved and/or processed and all the time that a copyright violation remains on Wikipedia we are legally liable for the consequences. I am usually happy to supply copies of deleted articles but I'm afraid that in the case of a copyright violation I am unable to. I've looked again at the deleted text and to be honest, my advice to you would be that it is probably not worth the hassle of jumping through all the copyright release hoops as it would take no more than 10 minutes to just write the article again in your own words. A word of caution though, please do make sure that Sylva Foundation meets Wikipedia's notability requirement for organisations, otherwise a revised article may meet the same fate as the original one, albeit for different reasons! The Problem with Commonwealth Realms is that except for some of them, they all function exactly the same way. That is the principle of a shared Monarchy. So to recreate articles with my own word would be a bit difficult considering except the name of the country, they all used to function the same way. But on the other hand, not to create pages for theses specific Monarchies would be quite strange considering the fact that these countries were all Monarchies in their own rights (such as was for example the Kingdom of France or the Empire of Germany). And in all theses countries you still have people that are in favour of the Monarchy and of the Queen. so how could we arrange theses new pages because even in some kingdoms The Queen was their Queen only for a weeks, she was still Their Queen. And it would seem kind of unfair to me to create a whole page for the Kingdom of France and nothing for them.

Hi there, I guess I would say that if they are all likely to be identical then it is a bit of a waste of time creating separate articles for them at all - better perhaps to have a single article covering off the whole lot, a bit like say Commonwealth realm, in fact I think that may be that would be a good place for you to go for advice as it appears to have a lively talk page and I'm sure they are much more expert on monarchies past and present than I am (I can help you all day long on Wikipedia policy but monarchy is really not my bag!) and they would would be more than happy to give you advice if you raised the issue on the talk page also, the article you were copying is one of their "children". Yes, I think a single article called something like Former Commonwealth realms would be the best way to proceed, that way you can mention all the common information once (in your own words of course!) and then list the countries involved with perhaps a sentence or two to cover off the information unique to each one, e.g. dates. Gosh - that was a long time ago! I see it has been deleted by someone else since too. I guess the best advice I can give you is to pop over to our notability requirements for biographies with particular regard to the section on creative professionals. If you check out those guidelines you will see what your brother needs to have achieved and also the things you have to do to verify his notability. I should also mention that writing biographies about someone who you are very close to (and what can be closer than a brother?) is generally frowned upon as we recognise that it is very difficult to be neutral. As a rule of thumb, if a subject is notable then likely someone unconnected will be along soon enough to create an article about them. Frankly, I'm a little clueless why 'Save Main Street' is being deleted. Here, we've built a web 2.0 portal that aims to fight the economic crisis by providing job opportunities from top employers around the world to those unemployed from the current economic crisis. Even companies like Google, LucasFilm, Ubisoft, and even Wikia have participated in this initiative, I'm not sure why Wikipedia is not providing support to this initiative.
I'd appreciate if you can reconsider.

hi there Alex & welcome. I guess the bottom line is that Wikipedia is an encylopaedia. It contains articles about notable subjects, it is not a vehicle for promotion however worthy the cause may be. I shoudl also mentions that writing articles about subjects you are closely associated with is strongly discouraged, as I said to my last corerspondent above, the rule of thumb is that if a subject is notable enough for inclusion then someone unconnected will be along soon enough to write an article about it. Honestly speaking, it's hard to comprehend why 'JobsTAXI' is being deleted when there are other wikipedia pages such as
that is created to promote these companies. If companies such as Twitter, and even Wikipedia itself, are able to bring awareness to itself via Wikipedia, why the bias towards others?

Infobox problem is only apparent in Internet Explorer - I use Firefox for preference and it looks super to me, in fact I didn't know what you were on about until I thought of testing in IE, now I see! Hi there Binduni. I am afraid I can't supply you with a copy for the deleted article as I think it was a copyright violation being a copy of Dynamic Alert promotional material. Before you start recreating the article you might spend a moment to read our notability guidelines as I would hate for you to put a lot of work in only to have it deleted, also of course remember that what ever you write must be in your own words & not a cut and paste like the last one. Hi there Panayiotiskokoras. The reason that the article has been protected from creation is that everytime it was created in the past it had been a cut and paste copyright violation. I am happy to unprotect it but only if I can be 100% confident that a replacement article will not be a copyvio. I therefore propose that you put the proposed text somewhere in your userspace (e.g at User:Panayiotiskokoras/Sandbox) so that I can check it before it gets posted in to mainspace - let me know when you have the text written and I will take a look. is not known as "Liffey Radio" (or "Radio of the Liffey") in English, these are merely translations. There is no official English name for this radio station! There are countless examples of entities in Ireland that do not have any official English-language name, eg: An Bord Pleanála, Garda Síochána, and -- more pertinently -- RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta (another radio station).

He died about 5 months ago and he rose to the rank of Major General in the Australian army. He was also one of the founders of the Pilbara Regiment in Western Australia, and was their Honorary Colonel when he died. I read the web page and on the face of it I think Ken Taylor passes the basic notability requirement for his role in the creation of the 5th Rifles however you will need to find additional reliable sources to back this up - I had a quick google and didn't find very much at all. You will also need to be exceedingly careful about using your own family information - conflict of interest aside you must make sure that you are not engaging in original research based on primary sources. Hi there, the reason the articles were deleted is because they were copyright violations. I note that you say you own the copyright and that is a good start as you can then release it to GFDL. GDFL is the "copyleft" licence that Wikipedia uses and which basically means that it is available for anyone to use anywhere they like either as posted or changed as they wish. There are two ways to confirm to us that the text has been released:
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on your website a statement which releases all its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later.
or
Send written confirmation that the text has been released to GFDL which should be forwarded to the email address "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org"
You should not post any material until one or other of these processes has been done, and you should indicate on the talk page of any article which uses the "copyright" text how it has been released.
Also I must mention the issue of your potential conflict of interest. I am assuming from your claimed ownership of the copyright that you either are Vincenzo himself or editing on behalf of him? Whilst it is not specifically disallowed, people editing articles about themselves is strongly discouraged as we recognise that closeness to a subject may make it very difficult to be neutral - a good rule of thumb is that if a subject is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia then likely an uninvolved editor will be along soon enough to create a page. I think that there are multiple issues which you need to address, first and foremost being whether Sean meets the notability requirements, also you must make sure that any text you post is in your own words - previous versions of the article have been deleted because they were copyright violations. Finally I have a concern about your mention of a "corporate assignment" which raises three possible problems - firstly I wonder if you may have a conflict of interest with the subject, secondly there is a question as to whether the purpose of the article may be promotional and lastly you must also avoid original research. I am not inclined to unprotect the page at this juncture for two reasons. Firstly I cannot see any evidence that a new article would meet our inclusion policies and guidelines as outlined above and secondly it would be bad form of me to immediately reverse another admin's actions without very good reason and without discussing it with him first. I am an active researcher in the field of electroacoustic composition and I know very well what means ‘copy violation’.
Personally, I cannot find any copy violation in the test I posted on Sandbox previously.
Please allow me to make a comment about the start of the article:

As a reviewer to international journals and conferences, I would never consider this as plagiarism or so.
Because what matters is the meaning and the meaning matters when its origin is unique. The fact that Helmca is a nonprofit organization is not the result of a long research but simply a fact. Scrambling the order of the words will not change anything. As far as concern the ‘conflict of interest’. I would like to make clear that Helmca is not mine. I have been elected for a year by its members and probably I will not be part of it next year.
It may not be word for word copyvio now but it is still pretty obvious plagarism (i.e. the spirit and the phrasing are the same but a few different words have been substituted). Examples:
Website: The foundation of HELMCA in 2002 coincides with a new phase in the development of electronic music in Greece.
Your text: The date of foundation of HELMCA is the year of 2002 and comes as a result of a new period for the development of electroacoustic music in Greece
Website: This phase marks the appearance of several notable young composers – some of them already having important international distinctions - and the development of educational institutions in the fields of music technology and electroacoustic music.
Your text: This new period is characterized by a number of emerging and emerged composers with national and international activity in major festivals and distinctions in composition competitions.
When we say you must write it in your own words we don't mean that you can take someone elses sentence and change it a bit, we mean that you must take the essential facts from your sources and then write your own sentences to convey them.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make re. conflict of interest, I commented that you were the VP of the organisation and therefore may be too close to it to be objective about its notability. I didn't say that you owned it.
We just finished touring for the summer. I'd like to try again setting up Lisa Haley's Wikipedia page.
The problem we ran into last time was that our source, AllMusic.com has a great article about Lisa. However, the band members' names are 10 years outdated. As I tried to update the band names, I added some current promo info from our presskit. I didn't realize that combining a published article with our own updated info was unacceptable, and for that I apologize.

One guideline states "say it in your own words" but others say "must be from a published source."

WP:IAR (or as I like to think of it common sense) is pretty much what went on here - the article made all sorts of claims about thirteen year old children and had to go. You are right that there is not a speedy category that covers this so the best way to approach it is to use a custom speedy request: the one left in this case was {{db|As a [[WP:BLP]] making unsourced privacy-invading claims about two children this should be deleted immediately without waiting for a prod to expire}}. Hi. You've previously tried to nicely tell User:Burhan Ahmed to be careful with this speedy tagging. It doesn't appear to have sunk in as he has been on a recent tear again with quite a few that aren't right. I've left a not so nice him to stop unless he understands the criteria but I doubt it will sink in. He's a had a long series of copyright violations which aren't apparent as he has blanked his talk page. This includes trying to make a claim that he took the pictures himself [3] which as it turns out he didn't when I eventually tracked down the source on the web. I've tried to direct him towards the adoptioonj program as he could use guidance but he hasn't at at all followed up on that, and continues to generally edit in a rather sloppy manner. Huggle just far too depressing (and everyone else is faster than me). I decided to ban myself from my watchlist, CAT:CSD and WP:AIV and instead to spend the afternoon expanding a stub - not dented the optimism but at least I have remembered why I came here in the first place :) Nancy talk18:27, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I do more NPP now--at least I'm looking at stuff done by people who are generally trying to improve WP, if sometimes misguidedly, rather than just smear poo on the walls. //roux20:45, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Burhan simply does not read and comprehend. Aside from the participation in the AFD that he noted. It apppear he also made an article space edit. I've reverted him as a blocked user. The other issue with the dit is that there aren't any references. -- Whpq (talk) 13:04, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Good grief - one would expect slightly more cognitive ability from someone who is apparently a medical student wouldn't you think? With regard to that WHO cat he's been adding it had already been removed by another editor a few days ago as inappropriate so regardless of his block status the edit should not stand. I've blocked the IP for 48 hours as it is being used for block evasion - the only person who has edited from it is Burhan so little risk of collateral damage. Nancy talk13:35, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
