Benteke

Well, when Benteke was born, it was Zaire not DR Congo. And was the same for 7 years after he was born. I don't think it's needed to repeat "Kinshasa, Zaire" in the body of the text because it's already in the infobox. The Madras (talk) 09:42, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

NextGen Series

Hi. How many competitions have been just "suspended" and it continues suspended forever? It's always better for the owners to postpone instead of admiting the end of their creations. In fact in last 2 weeks, NextGen organiser said again that there will be a competition soon, suported by the fact of teams like Fulham, but most of all Man. United being out of Champions League, an so out of Youth League.

Ok, NextGen still not abolished, but one year after now, 2 years after, the competition will continue to be just suspended unless the organizers says "it's canceled"?Rpo.castro (talk) 20:51, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Football statistics

Hi, many thanks for taking some interest in updating the infobox statistics for footballers. It would be useful if you could set the timestamps for the changes at the same time as you change the appearance/goal figures. There is a field name |pcupdate= or |club-update=, usually at the bottom of the template, that should be changed. The equivalent for international matches is |ntupdate= or |nationalteam-update=. All you have to do is replace the contents of the field with 5 tilde characters, ~~~~~, which when saved will be converted into the date/time of the change. Regards. The reason that I ask is because you put today's date into the |date= parameter, and the weather in the photo doesn't match the weather in Didcot today: in the photo, there are strong shadows, hardly any cloud, and the person just left of centre (facing camera) is wearing a short-sleeve shirt; but today, there isn't much sunlight - there are too many clouds, and it's windy and quite cool. The |date= parameter is supposed to be the date when the picture was created; it also affects whether I put the pic into c:Category:September 2014 in Oxfordshire or c:Category:October 2014 in Oxfordshire. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:31, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

I take it that you used the Upload Wizard on commons - I've never successfully used this: it's slow, the interface is horrible, and when unexpected things happen it's very difficult to work out why. Today, I can't even get as far as the bit where you enter the date, so I can't check on what it asks for. But if it does say "first published", that's for images that were obtained from another website, such as Geograph.

Hi, re this revert - it is fictitious - an online search probably won't turn up this book, which AFAIK is the only place where it's mentioned:

Sorry for being lazy, he was the acting director for the group for a year or so but was deputy director for most of his time there, the paragraph read that he was director for 7 years (2003-2010) which is factually incorrect, he was only director in 2009-10. One ref is: http://www.westcott.cam.ac.uk/uploads/News/Westcott_review_2007-8.pdf which notes that he was deputy director in 2008. I will add when I have time. Hello. When reading the Ramsay article, the first thing I noticed was the bit about how he joined Villa was missing, so the text didn't make any sense; I quickly bunged in some unsourced text so it would at least read OK. You're right, it's by the rulebook, but what does that add to the encyclopedia? You made it incorrect. It just seemed like a lazy editing choice, no offense. It's easy to RV, but it would have taken you a minute longer to just add a section and ref, or alternatively just leave it and they would have been added by others. Goeth thou to the TALK page for Sanchin to raise specific objections with regards to references. The articles linked are different and, for that magazine, not at all terrible. Nevertheless, there are other published references available which can be added IF you specify WHAT claims you feel the articles fail to support. TheDoctorX (talk) 01:53, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

I really don't like your tone, especially USING CAPS. I made the revert in good faith, the page had been tagged as requiring a ref improve for two years and by adding one very poor reference (no publisher, no URL, no page number) for one section of the article that did not in my opinion result in the article not requiring better referencing. For instance the lead of the article uses the Black Belt magazine reference, having reviewed that it makes no mention whatsoever of Tam Hon, Ang Lian-Huat or the details on the use of nukite zuki or Goju ryu. Basically, it is a mass of original research loosely associated to one decent reference (bizarrely also it is repeat referenced multiple times which should be corrected). The whole thing needs a re-write based on that one source as the rest is unreliable. As for the section on shime, who knows whether that reference is correct as it is so sparse and of little use to those ho don't want to google the book and spend time trawling through for themselves. I'm happy to go through and use [citation needed].
I would argue that you are the one that needed to go to the talk page to justify why the very minor information you added justified the removal of a long-standing tag on the article. All in all, I'm unsure why you are so adamant that this article is perfect as it is. I'm sure there are many references around for this well-known kata which is prominent in shito-ryu and shukokai as well as the styles mentioned here without reference (Uechi ryu aside). Having ref improve tags makes it more likely that editors stopping by will improve this article, making it more useful for everyone. Mountaincirque 13:06, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Spurs honours

There is a reason why it's down on Tottenham page, you can't trust other pages, websites all the time, if you goto the Tottenham museum you will see some information about that game and the trophy. Govvy (talk) 18:17, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I was referring to published books which state that the match was not competed for that season, these are histories of the Corinthians football club that played in all but one of the ties. Your personal experience of the Spurs museum is not a suitable reference for Wikipedia, they may have got confused themselves as the Shield match was held in 1934 at end of that season, not the start of the 1934-35 season, there are programmes available online. If you leave that information for 1935 on there you are claiming a trophy that was never played for and basically 'inflating' the number of minor honours Spurs have won. If you have any reference, who they played, the score then please do include it. Do you not think it's odd though that it wouldn't be mentioned anywhere? I suggest you read the Sheriff of London Charity Shield page and look at the results there which are heavily referenced from newspapers and other reliable sources.

Wow, you sound angry, is that why you posted a good faith reprimand on my talk page, because that's really out of order and I find that offensive. I refer to Tottenham's website, why on earth would they get information wrong on that note. I used it as a citation and you ignored that as the source of the information. @Govvy: I have been in email contact with the Spurs club historian today and he confirmed that there was an error on their site. He reviewed all programmes and fixture lists in the club record for the 1933-35 seasons. He has now removed the listing for the Shield win in 1934-35 which was in fact a friendly match ([1]). I hope that the error can now be removed from the Spurs wiki page? I'm sorry if you found my messages in any way offensive, I was merely pointing out that the information was not referenced and that many other sources disagreed with the claim. Danny Welbeck

Yes, I would. You have no evidence that Welbeck was one of the 30 people who were given a medal. As I said to User:Govvy, I agree that the evidence suggests that he probably did, but there's nothing concrete either way, and without anything that explicitly states that he got a medal, I wouldn't consider him a winner. I don't know where you're from, but typically, in English football, one has to be involved in the final to be considered a winner. I'm happy to leave the page as it is but I don't agree with your stance. As Arsenal were awarded 30 medals, they undoubtedly gave those to all players who played or were on the bench during the cup campaign. The previous season there was press coverage over Szczesny having received a medal with zero games played [2].
These are the formal rules of the FA Cup competition which state nothing about players being only awarded a medal if they play the final [3].
A final point, as Arsenal were awarded 30 medals to give out as they see fit, you will need a source for every player's medals, there is no distinction in the rules for players playing the final e.g. Arsenal could technically decide to award a medal to a player who did not play (due to injury) over a player who did play. Roy Keane may not consider himself a Champions League winner but Man U gave him a winner's medal from their allocation. Mountaincirque 13:15, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps Roy Keane was a bad example since he was part of Manchester United's 25-man squad for the Champions League that season, and hence we know he would have got a medal. But since there is no process for naming a squad for the FA Cup as a whole, there's no evidence that Danny Welbeck was one of the 30 who got a medal for the 2015 win. If he ascended the steps and picked up a medal from the Royal Box, that would be evidence, but simply saying "Arsenal get 30 medals, and Welbeck played in a couple of games before the final so he must have got one" is not a good standard of evidence. – PeeJay 15:22, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

The FA give out 30 medals for the club to decide, those given at the ceremony are part of that allocation and are technically (see official rules above) given to the club not specific players. Being part of the match day final squad has zero official basis in the FA Cup rules for definitely receiving a medal. There is no reference for 'all match day XI and bench get medals by default', that is your own research. The only source for Szczezny's medal is that article which proves the club granted him one.
I'm going to butt out of medals/honours discussions from now apart from for the couple of general club honours pages I watch. For me any player that has played in a club's victorious cup campaign deserves that honour listed on their list, the details of games they played and whether they were in the final day match squad can be noted in the article or as a note. Was Danny Welbeck part of Arsenal's 2014-15 FA Cup winning squad: undoubtedly yes, was Welbeck one of their major contributors players in the competition, scoring the winner against Manchester United in the quarter finals: yes, apparently he doesn't hold the 'honour' on his CV though despite lifting the trophy as he was injured on the final day. If someone who doesn't know much about football comes across this article and wonders did Welbeck win the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2015?, I currently do not think they have the right information on the page. Which encouraged me to give context to the early County Cup win, when it was still a first-team competition. WikiProject Cryptozoology Emergency

Just thought I'd give everyone that's a member of WikiProject Cryprozoology a heads up. I've been seeing a lot of that looks like vandalism by Bloodoffox, removing cryptozoology categories and rewording things to appear as though article topics are on mythological creatures. I believe this is an attempt to get his merger proposal for List of Cryptids merged with List of mythological creatures although I cannot be sure. Thanks, I did check there as the main source. The criteria are tighter on the competitive honours page and in the Spurs main page editors' wisdom they have not listed Sheriff of London Charity Shield and Anglo-Italian Cup wins in their main honours, despite these both being FA-backed honours. Thoughts on Gyaku-zuki

I have just looked at both Gyaku-zuki and Tsuki, I would merge the small amount of content from the first into the second (and trim as it over-complicates the description of the technique in my opinion). @Warcanbrisox: don't worry. A couple of things here, firstly, referencing. You cannot just add a line of text that says "X likes mountain-climbing" and press 'save changes', unless it is already referenced on the page (so if it's on the subjects staff profile for example which is already referenced then it's fairer usage). You need to click the 'Cite' drop-down menu and select the 'Templates' menu to add a reference for that information e.g. 'Who's Who 10th Edition etc. etc.' You cannot just add things that you 'know' either, especially if it i they need to be found elsewhere just like if you were writing an academic piece of work. Otherwise it is classed as 'original research' which is not allowed as this is meant to be a sourced encyclopedia.
Secondly, you mention that you have a close work relationship with this subject, this is also a conflict of interest, there are a number of reasons not to edit your own page or your employer's page, one that jumps to mind is potential reputational damage if it is discovered that staff of the subject or the subject themself had edited their own page to highlight desirable topics and remove non-desirable topics. I'm not making that accusation here of you, I can see your edits are quite basic and genuine but you have strayed a couple of times into language that is not quite the right tone for an encyclopedia. In your case I would consider it OK to go in and review text you have added recently and add a reference for anything that isn't referenced. Then I would take a break as making repeated edits over a longer period of time is more likely to end up in the edits being reverted in my opinion. Mountaincirque 13:00, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Mountaincirque: thanks so much I really appreciate your help. I'll print out the entry as it currently appears and mark up all the places I think need referencing. Then I'll find the references if I can - this could take some time! I totally understand all your points about conflict and the language comes from various bios that are regularly used for him in by various organisations - not me! Most of it is very basic as you say but I think I can identify the parts the a 'not quite the right tone'. I shall deal with those first.
