Hello whoever you are. The reason it was copied and pasted was because I wanted to do a outline of what it should look like and come back and edit it. I did it out of boredom and to also state more information about MY Alma mater, my school. IDK if u went their but obviously their isn't enough information about how great our school is or what we do. So take your college education from Truman and shove it because you have no life if all you do is spend time reading what other people do. I hope your resolution is to get a life in 2012. Daisy Burrell

Apart from the fact that she attended the Guildhall School (which I've added, but slightly too early in the article I now realise on second thoughts) I can find nothing useful about Miss Burrell, I'm sorry to say. Musical theatre

Hi. I see that you have begun editing lots of musical theatre articles. Thanks for all of your contributions! Please see the Article structure page at WP:MUSICALS for some editing guidelines that musical theatre project members have suggested for these articles. For example, in cast lists, generally we do not list chorus roles, except that we list very famous people who were in a chorus, for example Binnie Hale in Houp La!. Please list the name of the character on the left, and the name of the actor on the right. Generally, we give only one cast list - if multiple casts were particularly notable, sometimes we make a table where we can efficiently add their names. See, for example, Carousel (musical). Otherwise, we mention the notable performers in the "Productions" section as part of the description of each major production. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your encouragement. On the citation format, so far as I'm aware the one you prefer is an American scientific format, and I have to say I dislike it and don't use it in starting a new article. I don't think there is any Wikipedia policy to impose it on all articles? Will copy question to your talk page. Hi. I think it's required, not optional, to cite last names first. See: the examples in WP:CITE. Here are more examples with recommended styles: Wikipedia:Citing sources/Example style. The other things I mentioned are, I believe, optional, so long as a consistent style is chosen for a particular article. See also WP:CITEVAR. Nevertheless, I do think it makes sense to try to figure out the usual style adopted for a particular kind of article on Wikipedia and to try to fit in with it, even if you would generally prefer a different style in, say, your blog. For example, the kind of punctuation preferred by the MOS is not always what I would prefer, but I have learned to conform to it, over the past 6 years, since it helps all the editors on the project to use a consistent style. I can also say from experience that if you wish to get an article promoted to FA, the recommended style will be pretty much required there. Cast lists

Sure, you can raise issues like this at the talk page for WP:MUSICALS. The current guideline says: "Long, detailed descriptions of characters are not needed (unless necessary to convey the story-line). Rather at the first mention of an important character in the Synopsis, some effort should be made to convey the personality or characteristics of the character. If a story is complex and the characters confusing, then a list of principal characters may be given." (emphasis mine) See our Article Structure page.

Personally, as you may have guessed, I think it is and has been a capital idea to limit cast lists to principal roles (with significant solo singing or speaking) and notable choristers. This has been done in the vast majority of our 3,117 musical theatre articles. Lots of lines that are drawn on Wikipedia are subjective - that's why we are "editors": we are expected to make editorial decisions to present selected information of encyclopedic importance. I think that we agree on more than we disagree on, and if other editors agree with you, I will not be worried. Just to lay out my case as clearly as I can, I agree with you that it is merely a question of line drawing. I think that if, at a later date, someone writes an article about one of the people who played a minor role and who later became a notable star, then that person's name can be added and blue-linked at that time. Most of these people never became famous, and therefore, IMO, including their names is clutter. But let's see if other editors feel moved to comment at Talk:Houp La!. Eugene De Rosa

Sorry about the "distractingly dainty" - DYK is not a good place for me to expound on my personal stylistic preferences. I did check for a NY Times obituary, but couldn't find it. I did however find 50 some articles (most being sold for $3 each!) that mention De Rosa. The first might be in 1919, and the last on May 24, 1945. Note that just because his name is in the paper and it's not an obit - doesn't mean that he was necessarily alive. A pure guess here - he should have had an obit in one of the NY papers, but maybe he died on an otherwise big news days - perhaps VJ Day. All the best in your quest. I'm happy to discuss this subject until I bring you around on it, although I hope your comment on war was merely in jest. As of now, we have no article on Romanian or Moldovan villages (well, except the one you created, but we'll leave that aside for the moment); rather, the villages are mentioned in the articles on the parent communes and redirected to those articles. The idea is that when content is added on villages, it should be done as sections in the commune articles, rather than having them split off. A couple of examples: Coronini, Berzasca, Bazna. As for why this should be so:

• Romanian villages are informal units that are, in essence, neighborhoods of communes, and are not administrative subdivisions of any kind. And this where the commune itself only hosts thousands of inhabitants at best. In other words, their notability is enough to warrant mention in the commune articles, but not (I would argue) enough for a separate article.
• All relevant information on villages can invariably fit into commune articles. Moreover, it makes far more sense to present all information in a single, reasonably long coherent article that answers most questions in one place rather than spreading it through several small articles, all of them assuming that the readers already know how one article relates to the other. It makes far more sense to have 3000 (mostly) stubs on communes that can be expanded than 13,000 permanent stubs on villages. Multiple articles on essentially the same topic are by nature redundant and cumbersome.
• In 95% of cases, commune A will have villages A, B, C, etc. Do you propose we distinguish village A from commune A in two separate articles, and more to the point, why take that pedantic step, a step tantamount to content forking? In practical terms, why have Fundata Commune, Fundata, Braşov, Fundăţica and Şirnea, sending readers scurrying all over the place, when everything there is to be said about the three villages and the commune fits comfortably at Fundata? Moreover, Fundata Commune would be bound to remain an empty shell, saying little more than "Fundata is a commune in Braşov County, Romania".

I am the first to say we should have relevant content on Romanian villages. What we face, however, is a technical disagreement on how best to present the information. I hope I have begun to lay out an effective case for having villages accessed by redirect and merger and sectioning in one coherent article, as opposed to chopping them up into separate stubs. I'm familiar with the "all villages are notable" mantra, and in principle I agree, but it does not automatically follow that "all villages are notable enough for a separate article, regardless of all other considerations".

As for what ro.wiki does: well, that's more or less an example of how not to do things. They do indeed spread out content between Fundata, Brașov, Fundățica, Brașov, Șirnea, Brașov and the permanent shell article Comuna Fundata, Brașov, but there's really no logic to that.

At least we agree on Powell; it is indeed sad that neither men of his calibre nor those of (on the opposite end of the mainstream) Michael Foot still stride across the political stage. On at least two major issues ("Europe" and immigration), Powell seems oddly prophetic nowadays. - Biruitorul ^Talk 21:34, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you look over those hits, you will find that the majority either do not refer to Sirnea village or are unusable, but that's not the issue here. The main issues are outlined above, and cannot simply be waved away. Does it not make far more sense to present all information in a single, reasonably long coherent article that answers most questions in one place rather than spreading it through several small articles, all of them assuming that the readers already know how one article relates to the other? Do you propose we distinguish Fundata village from Fundata commune in two separate articles, and more to the point, why fork and leave ourselves with a permanent shell article? Why have 13,000 permanent stubs when we can have 3,000 that at least have potential and clear standalone notability? Why not present relevant information in one place rather than dividing it into random stubs on informal subdivisions of communes with perhaps a few hundred inhabitants and no administrative authority? Why not preserve relevant information but have it easily accessible where it belongs through redirects? Sheriff of Wiltshire

with regards to your recent edit to Walter Hungerford of Farleigh which added the article to Category:High Sheriffs of Wiltshire. Last year I was involved in a discussion about the difference between Sheriffs of a county and High Sheriffs. It turns out that until 1974 the office was known as Sheriff. It was renamed High Sheriff under the Local Government Act 1972 and became effective on 1 April 1974. So should we split the category into two with perhaps a subcategory of Sheriff for appointments before 1974? -- PBS (talk) 13:38, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did not know that there were more sheriffs in the category Wiltshire than the others, it was just that your edit popped up on my watch-list and it was simpler to use that as a test case. I really do not want to take on the role of sorting out all the lists and categories, as my only real interest is in some of the biographies that link to the High Sheriff articles (although one article I did move was Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire because the office ceased to exist before 1974). I was hoping that perhaps you could talk to Plucas58 and come up with a solution for the backlog. oh dear... the discussion was closed and a solution came about, and now you've created another category. If you recall, the arguments for 'British unionism' was that the unionism in question was about British identity and unification with Britain. Even if I disagreed with this rationale (because I felt it excluded Irish unionists), I didn't feel that it should be broken up by sub-category - it is useful to have it all under one vein, as there is an interplay between the different strands of unionism. As I have indicated on the nom page, I now think the Ghulam Jilani Khan and Chand Bagh School articles are ready for DYK. I'd also like to bury the hatchet with you. I think the tone of a few of my comments on the nom page was inappropriate. Here's my view of how the argument went. The first couple of times I looked at the articles, I stopped as soon as I came across something that I thought meant the articles weren't ready and did not look any further. I suppose this created the impression I was merely trying to find reasons to exclude the nomination. I absolutely was not. I still maintain that articles could not be featured on DYK at the time, because they made extensive use of unreliable sources. When you then accused me of acting in bad faith (by saying that I was evading some issue or playing games), I became pretty vexed. That's why I wrote a couple of things I now regret. Eugene De Rosa

My name is Fred DeRosa; Eugene DeRosa was my uncle; Felix was my father. He worked with Eugene from 1925 to 1929 and then sold insurance for Prudential untl the war came). To my knowledge, your article on Eugene contains some errors.

One fact that you included was that he arrived at Ellis Island in 1894. I have documentation that he, Jerry, and their mother arrived in 1897. However, I have been unable to find anything on the arrival of my grandfather. While clearly he arrived before my grandmother and uncles, I'm intrigued by your date of 1894. Can you tell me where you found that information?

Also, there were six children: Eugene (1889), Jerry (1891), Felix (1898), Vincent (1900?), John (1905), and Sylvia (1907).

Also, I'm almost certain that he did not depart for Europe after the 1929 Crash. I do know that he lived for awhile with my Aunt Sylvia and in an apartment somewhere in the New York area. I'll see both my DeRosa first cousins this summer; they'll know.

I'm very eager to hear any information that you can share with me.

Hall houses

What a pleasant surprise to find this new article. Hall houses. An early Christmas present!

Over at Little Moreton Hall we have been pushing for a FA and it merit a visit. One of the wiki-lacuna was an authoritative article on screens passage , the link of which results in a redirect so I see common interest there.

It is early days yet- but I was struck by the brief discussion of infill in the later alterations section. _{Harrison, Ray (1999). Earth: The Conservation and repair of Bowhill Exeter:Working with Cob. English Heritage Research Transactions. Vol. 3. English Heritage. ISBN 1-873936 64 8.} deals with infills in some depth and indeed their example looks to have started as a hall house- generally infill was done with what ever material was available locally- in Essex it was brick in Cheshire mud (cob) and in York wattle and mud (daub).

I'm not sure how it would fit in, but you might want to have a look at Temple Manor a first-floor hall. It's unusual (scheduled ancient monument, grade I listing) in that it was apparently built as a manor and way-station for the Knights Templar. Possibly not quite domestic enough for you. Hello, Good that you've started this; it's been a gaping hole for a while. Just a quick query: my Thompson quote has Tenzing being awarded the GC but the Tenzing page states it's a GM. Re Band, I originally considered oil etc engineer per his wiki page, but my feeling is that Hunt would have mentioned this. All he says re Band profession-wise (and he is meticulous about recording precisely what all the members were doing at the time) is: "He had just taken his degree at Cambridge and was the ex-President of the Mountaineering Club of that University."

Well done on the GM sleuthing. I've added two more members, whom Hunt states were sponsored by the Medical Research Council and Countryman Films Ltd. Unfortunately he doesn't give their ages.
