Nabeel Rajab ArticleHello, thanks a lot for tidying up the information dump. There was some useful information in it but the way it was added was inappropriate for a Wikipedia article, as well as making it almost impossible to read. Your editing has made a really big difference. Nevertheless there is still work to be done on it before the new information is properly integrated into the article. It still reads as "promotional". In fact the importance of Nabeel Rajab's work is obscured by the over-enthusiastic tone of the language used. There is also a lack of adequate referencing for the information. If we can work on that together I'm sure we can use the information to make a substantial improvement in the article.
As far as pictures are concerned, the copyright situation makes it very complicated uploading pictures unless you're willing to spend time sorting out the issues. I'm afraid I don't have the time at the moment to deal with all the faff of copyright and licensing problems. The best way of proceeding is to upload the pictures to Wikimedia Commons with the copyright holder's permission allowing free use - if you go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/COM:OTRS you'll find links that will give you an idea of the issues involved. I hope you won't mind me washing my hands of that issue for the time being but I'm trying to sort out a picture issue for another article at the moment and that's causing me enough aggravation. I'm OK at editing but not very competent with pictures, but don't hesitate to ask me for any help.Opbeith (talk) 07:30, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I've seen your contributions and I understand that you are busy with a lot of things (I actually wasted an hour reading the stuff you were working on). It's just that I have final exams starting in 5 days (will be over on 2 June 2011), so that's when I'll probably come back to work on those stuff. I only have made efforts on this article, because I gave a word to someone that I would. By the way, I didn't use the "information dump", I had the same information already, probably from the same source. In fact I was surprised when I first saw it in the edit (I was like - from where the heck did that come? and how is it hidden?), but then realized it's the same info - this is due to me being very new to Wikipedia, almost just 1-2 day(s) experience. I do have questions, but now is not the appropriate time for me to ask. You will probably find some grammatical mistakes as I'm an Arab. One of the clearest mistakes with I just realized is the use of "Nabeel" instead of "Rajab". So, thanks very much for your all of your efforts and keep up the good work :) Cheers, Bahraini Activist (talk) 11:23, 18 May 2011 (GMT+3) Hello again. I've just done a run-through, revising the information you input. I hope the changes I've made are acceptable to you, please don't hesitate to undo them if you disagree with anything. Please excuse this rushed message, I've got things to get on with today. We can work on the references later when both you and I have a bit more time - if there are any challenges, we can add a [citation needed] tag to hold the situation for the time being. I'm very impressed by your WP competence after 1-2 days experience! Best of luck with your exams, and more later. Opbeith (talk) 09:37, 18 May 2011 (UTC) I actually like your work, makes it more professional and unbiased - which is what we need. I don't know what a [citation needed] tag mean (does it disable editing and makes paragraphs somehow protected?). Well, I'm impressed too, a bit - I basically just copied your style and got used to it. It's that 2 days experience which doesn't allow me to post pictures (you need to be at least 4 days or more in order to do that). Thanks :) Bahraini Activist (talk) 12:50, 18 May 2011 (GMT+3) Thanks but be careful. I'm a bit sloppy - so I'm not the best model, particularly where reference style is concerned. I'm afraid I get impatient with wanting to get an article ready. I have a butterfly mind and get distracted into other areas but my main area of interest is human rights-related issues (particularly Bosnia). The [citation needed] tag doesn't disable anything, it's simply a sign that the problem has been recognised by someone and so hopefully a breathing space will be allowed in which to deal with it. It's also a useful reminder when you go back and re-edit an article. In fact because there are quite a few references already in the article it shouldn't be vulnerable in the way that an article with very few references is.Opbeith (talk) 10:10, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

May 2011 Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Nabeel Rajab do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia.
Sorry for this question, but does that rule for copyright include works that other promote me to publish? If this isn't why you removed them, then could you tell me exactly why? especially that both links were referring to Nabeel Rajab's (the subject of this article) Facebook page. Hello Mohamed - I've got your talk page on my Watchlist and saw the posting. You won't get a reply, this is a message from a Wikipedia "robot". It's meant to detect potential spam attempts (commercial or personal self-promotion), which is why the links have been deleted. I think they're appropriate because of the reference to NR's use of social media but others might disagree. I'm not sure whether it's worth the battle at the moment - there's a lot of life wasted in losing battles at Wikipedia. Once you and I have a bit more time we can consult one of the more objective administrators to see whether inclusion can be sanctioned.Opbeith (talk) 11:53, 18 May 2011 (UTC) If you'd rather not wait, ask User:Vejvančický. He is one of the most fair and at the same time positive people I have come across at Wikipedia. If he gives you his objective opinion that the FB and Tr links are not acceptable then I would accept what he says. If he thinks it is reasonable to restore them then it's worth facing the battles that may come from anyone else. Opbeith (talk) 12:01, 18 May 2011 (UTC) Thank you very much, I feel really lucky to meet you :) But I won't go into a battle, I will probably just take a picture from each album and post it, when I have time. Human rights and politics is addicting for me and I should really stop and do what I'm supposed to do: Study Bahraini Activist (talk) 12:10, 18 May 2011 (UTC) Yes, Wikipedia is a disease! It's good as a distraction when you need to ease up but don't let it wind you up. Concentrate on what's important.Opbeith (talk) 14:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC) Videos questionHello again, re the videos question, I don't think you could do an article unless there was something notable about the videos themselves. For example it's possible that someone might try writing an article about the video of the Srebrenica executions at Trnovo that Natasa Kandic produced to the ICTY because it had such a (temporarily) extraordinary impact in Serbia. It's certainly notable enough to have its own section in the Srebrenica genocide article - go to "2005 Release of Scorpions massacre video". However you might run into quite a lot of aggression if it isn't immediately obvious why an individual video (rather than the events the video shows) is "notable". I assume that you're likely to be wanting to use the videos to illustrate information in the article. However because Internet sites like YouTube and similar video sites don't exercise editorial control over uploaded contributions, clips at those sites aren't usually considered sufficiently "reliable sources" to be cited as references for information in an article. So if the video contains significant information - for example showing bodies at Salmaniya Hospital - the best way of using them as references to add to the article's content might be to include a URL in the External Links section that many WP articles have (and include a description in the entry, not just a bald URL). Remember though that I'm not someone who's an authoritative/reliable source on WP "policies". You could take a look at [[1]] and [[2]] makes some relevant points, but to get a proper answer ask one of the helpful administrators like User talk:Vejvančický - making sure you explain clearly how and why you want to use the reference to the videos.Opbeith (talk) 17:20, 24 May 2011 (UTC) I see, Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated. What I'm thinking of is making a wiki page where a group of people can collect videos, articles, pictures and such about the ongoing events in Bahrain. I have looked at some wiki websites, but I didn't like their editing system. Bahraini Activist (talk) 17:34, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Nabeel Rajab ArticleThanks for the update. Opbeith (talk) 20:39, 2 June 2011 (UTC) It was a bit late edit, due to me having an exam the next day - I'm done now. Nabeel was released in the same day at about 11:30 pm, but the rest were released before him. They added another charge on him which is humiliating the king. Bahraini Activist (talk) 21:00, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
If Amnesty produce a report on the conference they may well comment on the Bahrein Government's refusal of permission for Nabeel Rajab to travel, which would carry even more weight as an condemnation of this type of human rights violation / abuse of power. Opbeith (talk) 12:21, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hubail brothersHello, do you have any up to date information about the Hubail brothers and the other footballers and sportsmen who were detained in mid-May? Opbeith (talk) 13:00, 16 June 2011 (UTC) I will be searching for info in Arabic in forums, there is much detailed info. I'll will share everything I find. Bahraini Activist (talk) 13:06, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Thanks very much for all that, Mohamed. Please keep me posted if you hear any more, and particularly if you've got references so that I can update their articles and the Bahraini national football team article. Apart from anything else the way they've been treated is against FIFA rules, but since Sepp Blatter has got his re-election I don't suppose he's at all bothered to pick an argument with the Bahrain FA. Opbeith (talk) 15:25, 16 June 2011 (UTC) By the way, to find the Wikipedia articles the brothers' names are spelled here as A'ala Hubail and Mohamed Hubail. Opbeith (talk) 15:29, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Alright mate. Problem with references is that most of the info it taken from Arabic forums and usually it is not original and source-less. I'm guessing it's just best to google for references. Bahraini Activist (talk) 15:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Yes, I presume the Bahraini press aren't exactly providing regular updates. But just in case you spot a reference, catch it before it escapes! Thanks. Opbeith (talk) 15:41, 16 June 2011 (UTC) I don't know whether you know how to Redirect. It's useful with names from non-Roman alphabets which may be transcribed in different ways. You create a new article under the alternative name, then you make the article's content the command "#Redirect" followed by a space and then the article's name within the linking pairs of square brackets. I'll go and do the Hubails for the spellings you gave originally. Opbeith (talk) 15:58, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Just knew that. So for example I can go and create an article called "Nabil Rajab" and the content of it is "#Redirect Nabeel Rajab". Worked perfectly fine :) Bahraini Activist (talk) 16:04, 16 June 2011 (UTC) You don't let the grass grow under your feet, do you?! Mohammed Hubail was already Redirected. I've Redirected Aala and Alaa. I've also copied the unsourced material you found onto their Talk pages with a message asking for any referenced material found to be used to update the articles. Hope you've recovered from the exams. Opbeith (talk) 16:08, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Yeah, it's been almost 2 weeks since the holiday started, I'm working on a video project with a small group currently, we are aiming to collect and document all videos about 2011 Bahraini uprising. (so far collected 4600+ and documented about 650 using Microsoft Access). I've been thinking about making a small Bahraini Wikipedia team, but that idea crashes with the fact that most people who are engaged in the political reform are weak in English & most of those who are good in English are rather afraid to get involved even with anonymous names. So I didn't try to do that yet, but maybe after we are done with the videos we can do that. Bahraini Activist (talk) 16:23, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Well, if it's any help I'm quite used to revising non-English English, so feel free to call on me for support if it would help anyone otherwise willing. Opbeith (talk) 16:32, 16 June 2011 (UTC) Sports personality detainees(I've split off the information about the detainees into a separate section from our discussion, for clarity's sake) Opbeith (talk) 08:33, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Administratorsabd alrazaq mohamed ، in the management of the bahrain football - dismissed + detained Embedded linksI was adding the information about the torture allegation to the A'ala Hubail article yesterday and thought I'd add a link to the Torture in Bahrain in article (which I tidied a little but needs further revision). You can put an explicit link in the "See Also" section at the bottom, but something else you can do which perhaps you don't know about is to embed a link in the text at a relevant point. I associated the word "tortured" in "he was tortured" with the article. The way you do this is by inserting the standard pair of opening square brackets, followed by the name of the article you want to link to, then add the "pipe" symbol (2nd from the left on the top row of "Special characters" (= straight vertical line), then the word or phrase that you want to incorporate the link, as indicated by a blue colour in the body of the text, then the pair of closing square brackets, with no added spaces. If you want to see how it looks go to Edit at A'ala Hubail. Get back to me if you need help. If it's confirmed that A'ala Hubail was tortured by deliberately damaging his feet, that would be a notable scandal, over and above the crime of torture. If you come across any more informative references please tell me. Arabic script references can be included if the relevant content can be adequately confirmed and a translation of the reference title provided Opbeith (talk) 07:13, 18 June 2011 (UTC) Thanks but, I already know that (probably from you when you edited Nabeel Rajab article and used this Bahraini). I will see if I can find more references for that. Bahraini Activist (talk) 10:29, 18 June 2011 (UTC) Couldn't find more references. Which is the more standard transliteration - Tareq or Tariq? Opbeith (talk) 23:33, 19 June 2011 (UTC) When I typed Tareq in WP search it redirected me to Tariq, so it is probably the more standard.
Do you know whether in addition to the GoPetitition petition there's any form of organised campaign to pressure the IOC or the London Organising Committee to review the position of the Bahrain National Olympics Committee ahead of Bahrain's participation in the London Olympics? Not that the IOC are much bothered about human rights and the Olympic Ideal to judge from Roegge's supine behaviour in relation to Beijing 2008. Opbeith (talk) 11:14, 20 June 2011 (UTC) No, I have no idea. I'll ask about this. I asked, It seems no one even knows about the first petition.. It would be nice if you could collect all the petitions about Bahrain and send that to me. Bahraini Activist (talk) 14:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC) I suspect that's not properly something to do via Wikipedia, as it's not specifically linked to article content, but if you send me an e-mail via my User page with an e-mail address I can use, I'll be happy to send you all I find. Opbeith (talk) 19:34, 20 June 2011 (UTC) In case you're interested, I've added a section to the Bahrain Olympic Committee article about the NOC President's role in threatening athletes and journalists who took part in the protests and the AIPS (International Sports Press Association) President's official complaint to the NOC about the arrest of Faisal Hayat. If you have enough specific referenced material it might be worth creating an article about the Athletes' and Journalists' March and its aftermath. I'll keep an eye out, I'd be grateful if you could too. There may be some mention in news about the releases. Opbeith (talk) 11:11, 30 June 2011 (UTC) Further developmentsFollowing the news of the trials and Abdulhadi Alkhawaja's sentence, I've tidied up the article. Maybe you could have a look and check that I haven't messed anything up in the process and add anything significant that you think may be missing. I've included mention of UK Foreign Office and Amnesty International condemnation of the trial. Someone has edited the Mohammed Hubail article with news of his sentence and I've added a bit more info from the reference but it was only a brief report. I trust the Bahraini authorities have taken note of the fact that this time the world is watching them rather more closely and critically than it has in their previous attempts at creative justice. Opbeith (talk) 09:46, 24 June 2011 (UTC) Good job, I've taken a fast look and think everything is fine. Will take a more detailed look when I get back home. That's useful. I've gathered the information you gave me before at a User subpage where I'll work on pulling them together as an article [[3]] - I haven't really got very far except in starting to organise the English translation of reference materials, but feel free to do whatever you like there. At the moment I'm trying to get a bit further of the reworking of the Torture in Bahrain article that I'd started but not finished. Opbeith (talk) 19:21, 24 June 2011 (UTC) I've finished my first reworking of Torture in Bahrain. The introduction could still do with having some of the more specific material moved from the intro to the body of the article - I'll come back to it another time. Again, if you wouldn't mind giving it a look-through I'd be grateful. What about adding a para of introductory text about 2011 at the start of your section listing 2011 reports? Opbeith (talk) 21:03, 24 June 2011 (UTC) Will work on that tomorrow, this section is a copy from the same section in 2011 Bahraini uprising. I hope the conditions of release aren't too Machiavellian. Unfortunately - whether or not realted to Google-Facebook developments today - Google Translate reckons the Facebook URL is invalid, but the Bahrain News Agency is a good reference. Hopefully the releases indicate that anyone not released will be treated more carefully too. Thanks for the news. Opbeith (talk) 10:59, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Abdulhadi AlkhawajaHope you didn't mind me doing a bit of "tidying up", don't hesitate to reverse anything that you think may have changed something important. It's better not to use the big "highlighted" quotes too much. If you keep most quotes within ordinary quotation marks in the body of the text you conserve the impact of highlighting for the really important quotes. Also if a direct quotation isn't really necessary it's usually better to turn a quote into reported speech or simple narrative - full quotes are more appropriate where the wording itself or the fact of something being delivered as it was are important. Opbeith (talk) 12:59, 13 July 2011 (UTC) I do not mind at all. Thanks for doing so. About quotes, it's just that I like to use them, what you did is fine. Bahraini Activist (talk) 13:12, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
More of the rubbishI'm not getting involved in editing articles after falling foul of a bit of dishonest process, I've decided there are better things to spend my time on. However I'm still willing to help out anyone I trust, so if there's anything you want help with just leave a message. Opbeith (talk) 20:56, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
RCSI-BahrainHi there - I was reading the article on RCSI-Bahrain and you appear to be the author of an edit saying that students were called to meetings following pro-democracy marches and that some students had their scholarships withdrawn. I noticed that this claim was unreferenced. Do you know the basis for the claim and - if so - could you let me know what it is or include it in the article? DublinBar (talk) 18:52, 30 September 2011 (UTC) I didn't use a reference for this info. However, this could be one. You can already read about how far this went from the pro-government newspapers as well from here. I understand that this might not be ok with Wikipedia rules; I was new when making this edit. The original source of info is from the students whose their scholarships were withdrawn and fortunately they are back in college now (after signing some papers about loyalty to the ruling family and not participating in any protests or political activity). Bahraini Activist (talk) 21:04, 30 September 2011 (UTC) Can you email me? Use the email link on my User talk page. DublinBar (talk) 21:31, 1 October 2011 (UTC
