Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Little River Inn, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cobbler. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Biographies of filmmakers

Hello! Just a reminder, the Film project does not cover biography articles. Therefore, please do not add the {{WikiProject Film}} banner to articles about actors, directors and filmmakers. Those articles are covered by adding |filmbio-work-group=yes to {{WikiProject Biography}} instead. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 20:11, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Grants:IEG/Wikipedia likes Galactic Exploration for Posterity 2015

Dear Sara,

I JethroBT (WMF) suggested that I consult with fellow Wikipedians to get feedback and help to improve my idea about "As an unparalleled way to raise awareness of the Wikimedia projects, I propose to create a tremendous media opportunity presented by launching Wikipedia via space travel."

It is a revamped version that I spoke to you about on LinkedIn in 2014.

Please see the idea at meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Wikipedia_likes_Galactic_Exploration_for_Posterity_2015. Please post your suggestions on the talk page and please feel free to edit the idea and join the project.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. I appreciate it.

My best regards, Geraldshields11 (talk) 20:33, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Norah Borges.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Norah Borges.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:53, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Little River Inn

Hello, I made some improvements to the Little River Inn article that you launched last month. I got the pushpin map to show up in both US and California versions. I also added a Geographic Locator and wikilinked a bunch of nearby cities to it. Can you check and see if I got them in the right order? The ones in the lower right corner are south/east from the inn, while others are north, some are south, some east, and some north/east. I tried to put them in order of their distance from the inn. The geo locator is at the very bottom of the page. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 07:50, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

User:Checkingfax WOW that is impressive!! Well done and all looks correct. I'll be copying that code to try my hand at it :) Thank you! Missvain (talk) 18:16, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
I have learned another tweak or two for that geo loc setup and I'll incorporate them in a minute so you have a better template to follow. That is a lovely inn. I can imagine Angela Lansbury hanging out here. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 18:54, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
OK, I poked around and was reminded of the "magic" pipe trick and used it to removed some wikilink cruft from all the named cities in the geo loc template, plus for two movies listed in the body of the article (the "magic" pipe trick strips out the stuff in parentheses) and the Fort Bragg wikilink. In the geo loc template North and South are wikilinked now to make them Navy Blue. If you use "magic" pipes be sure to put the pipe in there and do NOT put a space after it. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 19:16, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Can you please show me where in naming policy it says that usernames must not be more than 40 characters? I can't find it myself (but then I do often miss things in my old age). A search for "40" at Wikipedia:Username policy finds nothing, and the only relevant thing I can find is "Some usernames appear problematic without fitting clearly into any of the above categories. This is often the case with confusing or extremely lengthy usernames, which are highly discouraged but which are not so inappropriate on their own as to require action" (emphasis in original). Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:24, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Got me, I never bothered to look it up because we've been using it as a policy for years and I never cared enough to investigate it! Perhaps "disruption" is the main argument. Feel free to try to get the non-existent policy changed, I'm fine with it. I haven't been analyzing usernames in a while. Missvain (talk) 21:54, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
If there isn't actually a 40 char limit, I thought I'd just unblock as I don't see anything problematic about the name. Would you be OK with that? Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 22:02, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
