Elimination Chart! - Thanks so much!

Hi MissMJ. You've done a great job at formatting the table. You've fixed all of the problems that I was having trouble fixing with and it's basically just how I wanted it too look like. I think the main problem in the chart is that there are soo many contestants; if there is any change it requires all the position of the contestants on the table to change. You seem very skilled with tables, I just find Wiki Tables very complicated at times to understand while editing. I think there should be some additional program that converts something like an Microsoft Excel spreadsheet table into a Wikipedia table with ease. Again, thanks soo much. There are several users who insist on putting non-free use pictures into the Jordin Sparks article. It's a very clear policy violation (I have the reasons on the Sparks talk page). Assessment of SFBA articles

First of all thanks for your continuing assessment of SFBA articles. This assessment work is an important function. May i suggest that some of the articles you are rating "start" may be more advanced than your ratings indicate. For example, the article The Marine Mammal Center is a clear "B" and arguably a candidate for "GA". Please read the SFBA articles Antioch Bridge, Alice Waters and Albany Hill, all of which are "start" class rated and properly so. You may also want to review the guidelines for the various classes. Note particularly the breadth of coverage, well-written criteria, extent of referencing and use of photos. If you have any questions i should be happy to discuss this matter. Graphics lab scan

My problem with the picture of the U.S. representative is that I only know how to make the scanner create PDFs (my job is simply scanning books to preserve the texts as PDFs, and this was done over lunch break), and my only image program, period, is Paint. The only way I knew to create the image that you see as complete was to do Print Screen with Acrobat displaying the picture of all the ministers, and then to copy/paste the bits of image (in Paint) onto each other to get the complete picture. I don't know what else to do, short of sending you the file itself. If you'd be willing, please use the E-mail this user for me, and I'll reply with the PDF attached (434KB); if you aren't, please leave a note to that effect on my talk page. Thanks! Ah, don't worry about the DPI: the scanner can do up to 600, and (although I might not have done it that large, since the computer didn't always like that big) it was either done at that size or at 400. And if there's something that really needs to be reworked, I still have freedom (indeed, the duty!) to access the original of the picture, so I could re-scan it if necessary. Looking at the conversation, it shouldn't be too difficult to add the cities, though — if you can find a modern map of Europe that has the cities marked, you can use semi-transparent layers to pinpoint the cities relatively easily. Can you explain something to me?

I posted a question on the WikiProject Maps talk page - someone replied, but didn't answer my question in any way! S/He offered an example of a "PDF map", but nothing that helps me understand what makes a map a "PDF map". Can you tell me, or point me to where I can find out? Thanks for speedy response! which goes a long way towards telling me what's going on. I still have a question or two though. I think my problem is with the phrase "PDF map". I've made pdf files from word processing documents, and from graphics files. If I were trying to do a map and put it into PDF format, I would first save the map as a .jpg or .tif or .gif or .png file, then put that into pdf. Is that original graphic file what would be saved as an .svg file? or is there an intermediate stage - what you described as manually (or automatically) tracing it? Does "tracing it" imply turning it into a line drawing - like a character in a font, which as I understand it is composed of points connected with Bezier curves? (Maybe my question is not about maps at all, but about different kinds of graphics! Right now I'm guessing that the image needs to be a vector image - either because it was originally created as such, or because it's been turned into one by "tracing".) Feel free to give me quite a short answer - even a reference would do - because this is really "just" a matter of Curiosity to me - I doubt very much that I'm about to get into maps in that way! though I did produce the map on the Dospat Dam page. - Martha (talk) 03:52, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi MissMJ: I really like the work you did on the map. It is quite nice and very helpful for anyone reading the La Badarian narrative. I was not familiar myself with a lot of the cities on the map beforehand so future readers won't have a problem now. I was wondering if you were still working on the map? I am not familiar with SVG, so I don't know if it is a source file in which other editors can improve it themselves or if it is a compressed gif kind of thing. Either way I just wanted to thank you for your work so far and see if you were working on it, maybe trying to figure out how to draw paths in SVG format or something. Hi MissMJ: I'm not sure what has happened to you, but it was excellent work you did and I was just wondering if you were going to be the one to continue to work on it? I hope you haven't read the La Badarian narrative and freaked out. It is a risky piece of writing, but highly original and entertaining (to some). Your translated maps of the island of Saint-Martin

This is a copy of the message I left on your discussion page on Commons.

Good afternoon.
I saw you translated two of my maps of the island of Saint-Martin (File:Saint-Martin_map_detailed-en.svg and File:Saint-Martin_map_simple_en.svg) and I'm glad of that.
Unfortunately, to create my two maps I've drawn few years ago I used old paper maps of the French Institut Géographique National which are still under copyright, so this means that our four maps represent derivative works without permission. Because of this I will ask their deletion in a few days and give you this notification in order for you to have the time to save a copy of your maps in your computer, if you want.
I'm preparing completely new versions of them, using this time free data and of better quality. They will be shortly available on Commons and I will notify it to you when they are.
