Majoreditor 12:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the note, but honestly I'm not really interested in working on something like that. In the interest of not totally blowing it off, though, good luck with your efforts! Rassilon 02:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the note about Wikimania Atlanta; however, I do not have enough time to give the project the attention it deserves. Best of luck with your efforts though! Patriarca12 04:03, 4 September 2007 (UTC) I am interested in joining, but I will not be able to attend the meetings because my work hours are 2 PM to 10:30 PM during the weekdays. Since I am able to be in the mornings, I can deal with the publicity issues over the Internet or on the radio (WGST-AM mostly, but i can also deal with it on the Internet). I live in Covington, Georgia so I can do what I can to get it mentioned in the local papers in the Newton, Rockdale, and Walton county area. Chris 14:13, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I doubt I could be of much help, unless you have some technical work that I could do towards making Atlanta Wikimania happen (no idea what that might be); my social and organizational skills are minimal at best. Atlanta's actually a bit far from me (~7 hours by car), so I probably won't be able to go, either, barring dramatic lifestyle improvements before then. Regardless, thanks for letting me know about this (and I'd definitely be interested in hearing if Wikimania ever comes any closer to Durham). :-) --Woozle 01:06, 5 September 2007 (UTC) Glad to hear about your mom! Hey, you emailed me about wikimania in Atlanta. Just curious. How were you able to search on Atlanta and "find" me? Actually, while I lived in Atlanta from 1991 thru 2001, I no longer live there, but in Vancouver, WA, just north of the East-West- running Columbia river from Portland, OR. Nevertheless, I still consider the ATL area as my 2nd home and have visited several times. I'd move back if it weren't for the heat/humidity/bugs and while we have rain all winter out here, our summers are among the most beautiful in the world - that and the scenery. Anyways, just wanted to know by what process you were able to locate me. Last question. What's this about becoming an editor and is it very useful? If you do a search on me, you'll notice that I've contributed quite a lot to wikipedia including entire several new articles, including biographies I started the article on the Theodore Roosevelt Association of which I am a member and on their IT committee (they're trying to creep and crawl into the 21st Century. Thanks and happy editing! Keith Simon SimonATL 19:55, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I'm not able to attend a meeting at this time. Best of luck with your bid though. Crystallina 05:02, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Added myself to the bid to the In Atlanta section. My brither is getting married during the time frame of the event, but I can certainly help in the run up to it. Catwhoorg 11:38, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Mike, thank you for the consideration. If I can help in anyway, please do not hesitate to call upon me. I think it would be fun to meet some other nerds LOL Junebug52 12:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Mike - thanks very much for your message about Wikimania Atlanta! I'm not sure what I can do, but I'm happy to help however I can. Can you let me know where to be and what needs doing? Thanks! Hi, I live in Charleston, SC, about five hours from Atlanta, but I am interesting in ATTENDING the event. Please keep me on your "talk-page blastlist" for more info in the future.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 15:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC) I've moved to Boston, so I won't be involved. Thanks, DickClarkMises 16:00, 4 September 2007 (UTC) I don't live in Atlanta and I live too far away to travel to help prepare the bid or event, but I thinking holding Wikimania there is a great idea. I'll support such a bid in any way you need me to and, if the event is held there, will travel there take part. --Alabamaboy 16:51, 4 September 2007 (UTC) While I think holding Wikimania in Atlanta is a great idea, I would be unable to attend in all likelihood given the busy nature of my work during that time of year and my distance from Atlanta (I'm in Memphis). Thanks for the invite and I wish you good luck with the bid! · jersyko talk 17:36, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Unfortunately I live two hours from Atlanta and can't justify taking the time out to travel up there for Wikimania. Good luck with the bid, I hope Atlanta gets it :) --SayCheese 17:39, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Hey, great idea to hold that event in Atlanta. Unfortunately I cannot help. I live in Memphis and my time and distance from Atlanta would not allow it. Good luck with the Atlanta bid! doxTxob \ talk 18:51, 4 September 2007 (UTC) I just relocated to Tennessee. Unfortunately you missed my time in Atlanta. I lived there between 1991 and 1997 and again from 2001 to 2003. I think it would be great to hold it there. Plenty of lodging and space. Mark @ DailyNetworks talk 20:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC) I'm in Birmingham, so my involvement would be limited, though I would likely drive over for a day or two to see what's up. Let me know if I can help in any way. Anthony 23:47, 4 September 2007 (UTC) Got your message yo. I can't help, but I would probably come visit the event. Would be fascinating! Qmax 01:34, 5 September 2007 (UTC) Got your message Mike. I probably won't be able to attend or participate but if there's anything else I can do feel free to let me know. Hope this event can make it to the ATL. Take care. Geologik 03:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC) Where are the other Wikimania bids? I'd prefer Raleigh, Charlotte, Louisville, NY, Richmond, DC or, well, somewhere closer than Atlanta or some place I have ties. However, I'm assuming that there isn't another Southeast city making a bid. I tried to back-track the filepath for the bids and it said the pages didn't exist. Thanks! Douglas A. I'm insanely busy with both work and grad school at the moment, but the idea of having a Wikimania even remotely near here is a great thing -- I'll look it over and see if I can chip in in any way. Meetings are in the IRC channel #wikimania-atlanta on irc.freenode.net.--Cspurrier 21:09, 29 August 2007 (UTC) This may sound incredibly random, but I remember that, oh, about eight months ago, you asked me to look for any information on Dorcas Drake. Well, in doing some research on The Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women, I found that one of the honorees from 1989 was Dorcas Drake -- who is in fact a woman. Hee! Anyway, I've added a couple reliable sources to the article, deleted that misleading NY Times link that said she's a man, baby (couldn't resist the Austen Powers joke), and a little bit more information that was available. Take care! María (críticame) 20:24, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm very happy for you, her and your family. :-) Lradrama 19:26, 31 August 2007 (UTC) Hacking daysYou said in the meeting that hacking days had been cut down to one day, due to a lack of venue. I think that's really unfortunate, because Wikimania seems to be one of the few times the devs can work together in person. Depending on what is actually required, the College of Computing (my school) can probably provide places to hack. This could include a formal computer lab, or just lounges for people to sit together and plug in laptops. Even with little notice, something could probably be worked out (there are two buildings, one very big). But I'm sure we could reserve something if we started now/soon. On his talk page, I stated the problems with his moves, as you can see with this link...as did two other editors, TAnthony being one of them. And I joined in the discussion here that you voiced your thoughts in what is basically the same topic. I'm not sure what we can really do at this moment about his moves, unless he does not listen and keeps moving these women to their last names that they are not well-known by, but I felt that I'd give you a personal heads-up on who is doing this, in case you didn't already know. I might post a similar message like this on the Wiki Soap Operas project talk page. I'm not totally convinced that will help this situation, but it may get a bigger discussion going on about it eventually. Flyer22 00:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Dunno: it just seemed to me that adding "U.S." helps make the context clearer -- like the way Bush, Musharraf & Brown are invariably labeled "US President..." "President of Pakistan...", "PM of the United Kingdom", etc., even though their names enjoy instant brand recognition among 99% of the readership. The other nagging matter at the back of my mind is whether sports stories even belong on CE but, as one of those people whose eyes glaze over the moment the sports results come on the news, I'm probably not the one to make such a decision and prefer not to travel down that road. I'm certainly not in a position to decide how important a given sporting story is compared to another, but I think indicating the country we're talking about is the least we should do. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania. As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [4]. The University is named (by statute) "The University of Southern Mississippi" and refers to itself as such in University literature. I don't have time to give you all the supporting evidence right now(you can find it here), but I wanted to let you know of my upcoming action (which I stopped midway due to another editor's concerns) and show you that this is one of the few cases where "The" is appropriate (per our guidelines). Is that definitive? I guess you'd have to check her birth certificate. The external links cited by the Wikipedia article are ambiguous:
On Google:
The Biography Channel uses "Lesley". Twiggy (disambiguation) uses "Leslie". So, it seems there's a difference of opinion. An opportunity for you to do some more research and to set everyone straight, if you like. At one point there was an "Alternative Names" entry in the Wikipedia article's infobox, so that's an option, too. I've added a copy of the above discoveries to the Twiggy discussion page, so you can report any findings there. Wdfarmer 23:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC) Edit countWant a bet?
