User talk:Mboverload/Archive 4Your edit to Aylesbury Grammar SchoolMboverload, You have removed a fair amount of information from this article as you say it "belongs on the school website and can easily change". You removed information about the inter-house competitions and the school timetable. Can you elaborate on this please, as I don't see where you're coming from. The house competitions are a fundamental element of the school's life which have been taking place for over 300 years. It is an interesting and relevant piece of the article. Indeed, it would seem strange to keep the information about the houses but not the two events which they, to be honest, exsist for. Do you agree? The events run each year, and so the holder of each trophy is unlikely to "easily change". The school timetable, whilst perhaps slightly less noteworthy of inclusion I admit, is nonetheless a piece of information relevant to the school, and again, can you explain why it is "easily changeable and therefore belongs on the school's website"? I would appreciate it if you would make your intentions and wishes clear on the article's talk page in future so that some consensus may be achieved before such a major edit is done. Regards, Victor Greenstreet 09:54, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Helping out with the AWB spellcheck listHi there, I saw that you run the commonly used AWB spellcheck list. I tried to start one of my own, with the intention of creating a massive tool (the settings.xml file is about 250kb! See User:Draicone/DSCL) but it didn't quite work, for reasons I'm still trying to figure out. Instead, with your permission I'd like to either adapt your script to suit my massive spellchecking options (I'll add case-sensitivity, ideally) or help out with yours (adding entries, really) to make it more complete. --Draicone (talk) 08:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
AWBYour AWB software is currently creating typos/problems in articles. See List of songs about drugs, World Trade Center, Timeline of trends in music (1960-1969), and I am sure there are others. Please fix these problems and modify your software to not break image links/correct typos in proper names. Thanks Schicksal 01:05, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Note: AWB has been updated and all problems here have been 100% fixed and will never happen again. --mboverload@ 08:35, 15 July 2006 (UTC) spellingFor what it's worth: "causality" and "casualty" are two different words. Bot Account & AWBHi, I noticed from the AWB pages that you use a bot account and run AWB on it preforming edits. I was thinking about doing this for myself. Would i need to create a new account, request bot status on it (would this be done from my main user account?), and then request AWB authorisation on it? Cheers

Hydnjo's response to the blocking proposalI thank one and all - Jarandal, Antandrus, Titoxd, Xaosflux, TenOfAllTrades, mboverload, PseudoSudo, Knowledge Seeker, Haukurth, Deathphoenix, Zzyzx11, Tyrenius, Zscout370, AnnH, Rick Block, Tyrenius (again), Zscout370 (again) and NoSeptember for your support. To Jeffrey O. Gustafson who initiated this block request I ask why? We have had no interaction until now so how do you come to this requested action at WP:AN? Did you come across my account during your own research or are you acting as a proxy for another admin/user with whom I've caused to be angry with me? In reviewing your contributions I see no such "letter of the law" before now and so I feel singled out by you and I have no clue as to why - that to me is most disturbing. If you've come to this action on your own then should I be always wary of another admin challenging the legitimacy of my account? For TenOfAllTrades who advised me not to worry and Rick who made me laugh I give special thanks, you've helped me to not take this so personally. And to Jeff, thanks for being courteous in informing me of your action and for letting me feel that your heart wasn't for blocking me. I wanted to say all of this before it all goes to archive heaven. I still have a lingering concern that this may arise again and don't want to go through WP life looking over my shoulder or worrying that I might piss-off some admin and cause another inquiry about the legitimacy of my account. If any of you who have been so gracious as to take the time to support me here have any suggestions to prevent such an action, please drop your thoughts on my talk or by email. Finally, on a personal note to all, I never ever expected so much supportive response from all of you. I know that I've been moody at times and have spoken in ways that I have regretted the next day. I hoped otherwise but it seemed that those unfortunate responses might end up being my legacy as they were the foremost in my mind. And so far as this being a "role account", I think that I'll let the descriptions of AnnH and NoSeptember (both above) stand as the most intuitive descriptions of this account. My (and our) warmest regards to all of you for your understanding and outward support for the continuation of hydnjo's user account and future contributions. Again, my delighted and humble thanks :-) --hydnjo talk 02:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC) addendum: Jeff, I was confused at the outset in that I wasn't aware of the "role account" policy and then after becoming aware I was frustrated that I had made so many edits which could mislead someone to the conclusion that my account was a role account. I'm sorry that in my zeal to understand your actions that I posed the possibility that you were acting at someone else's behest. I have no evidence of that and it was improper of me to even mention that such a bizarre conspiracy was possible. I find myself guilty of "blaming the messenger" and posting an inappropriate comment about your motivation. As for my account, I want to state that it is not a role account and I apologize for leaving the impression that it is one. "hydnjo" is the signature that I commonly use for much of my correspondence and thought it to be appropriate when I first started my WP account. The portmanteau is an acknowledgment of our shared existence and not an indication that Heidi and I share in editing at WP. I thank you for your courtesy in informing me at the outset of the discussion at WP:AN and for your compliments about my contributions. The comments in my response were made in the shadow of my own frustration with my having left a trail of edits that could easily be construed as having come from either Heidi or myself. I sincerely apologize to you for making any suggestion as to your motivation in bringing up a legitimate policy question. You have a genuine concern for the orderly behavior of our editors and I thank you for initiating this discussion and providing me the opportunity to explain the nature of my account. --hydnjo talk 18:57, 18 July 2006 (UTC) Talk:The Frosties KidHey there, thanks for the putting the explanatory template on Talk:The_Frosties_Kid. ok i meant that you edited The Frosties Kid several times during the last few hours and removed several paragraphs see edit [[2]] and your later edit [[3]] - Those paragraphs of the discussion pages included comments from other admins. why were they removed? why were they not removed by admins who had commented to the articles? They were removed and replaced with the current unverifiable image. What you might not notice is that the current image has not been verified since it was uploaded over seven months ago. This was pointed out on the image's talk page but someone has not only deleted all reference to this but also deleted the history of this discussion. It remains a legitimate warning that putting the current picture on the 'Roma People' page is vandalism because it is not verifiable (one of the three requirements for ALL Wikipedia content). The four pictures themselves that make up the 'FamousRoma.JPG' illustration could be put there, but I think you'll find that some very politically motivated vandals (e.g. Improv) will not only remove it and replace it with an unverifiable image but also block anyone who takes issue with the current picture.DoubleSpacing 15:33, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Article on Jim ShapiroWow, thanks for the speedy deletion tag. However, it will soon be removed, because a couple of admins are so inclined. I removed unsourced negative statements made about this attorney, per Wiki guidelines, to the sentence you see there. The sole purpose of the article was to disparage this attorney - whether he deserves it or not, is irrelevant. The attorney has no notability, but for the claims made of his lack of ethics. That seems an odd reason to have an entry in Wikipedia. jawesq 07:25, 30 July 2006 (UTC

RETFHi, one typo you recently added was <Typo find="\b(D|d)iffrent\b" replace="$1i?fferent" />, you can't put the question mark in the replacement, the special characters only apply to the find part. Also, just in case you misunderstood what was going on, when you did this fix, you only fixed the mistake you had just introduced, as a double backslash is also a perfectly acceptable way to escape the characters, just so you know ;-). Also, you probably noticed the "compessing" i did by merging some regexes together, I think it would be advantageous all round if we aim to have 1 regex per word, this is more efficient/maintainable/versatile etc. There are still a lot that can be done. Not sure about this one. Virtualise is in wiktionary, however. --ColourBurst 01:51, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
I believe this is "warrant", not spelled with an e. Wiktionary and dictionary.com give no matches for "warrent". --ColourBurst 01:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Should be "voluntary". --ColourBurst 01:54, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Replacement should be "support". Maybe you mean to replace "suport"? --ColourBurst 01:56, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
My Talk PageSorry, perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't recall having asked you to mess around with the formatting of my talk page. Come to think of it, your making light of a serious conflict on this site is not appreciated. I'd appreciate it if you kept your non-constructive comments off my page from now on. Thanks. -- pm_shef 04:59, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
See the thanks you get for trying to help him? ED209 17:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC) Dictionary.comI was trying to clarify the correct spelling of "humorous" and I see this website lists "humourous", although my paper dictionary does not, and neither do most online refs. I also note that they list "publically", which I think is a clear error. Should we continue to regard this as a good source? See also [9] I'll hold off for now, but I think humorous is the right spelling. --Guinnog 11:18, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
I've copied this to Wikipedia talk:Typo and suggest we continue the conversation there. --Guinnog 15:02, 5 August 2006 (UTC) BarnstarTar muchly for the award but I feel unworthy of it. I don't believe that any of my words deserve being taken out of your word list as they are so rare and unusual they are unlikely to actually appear correctly used in wikipedia. Thanks anyway and keep up the excellent and invaluable speel checking work MeltBanana 14:41, 5 August 2006 (UTC) diffrent -> differentSomething in either AWB or RegEx. was wanting to put those white squares (what you get when you dont have the character set) between the 'di' and the 'fferent'... Any ideas? Reedy Boy 16:32, 5 August 2006 (UTC) Nitcentral articleHi. There is a motion afoot to delete the article on Phil Farrand's website, Nitcentral, as you can see here. If you have an opinion on it, can you chime in? Thanks. Nightscream 17:18, 5 August 2006 (UTC) "Commies"Hi, thanks for reverting my Talk page, but the "Commies" comment was valid, in reference to a comment I had made on that user's page. You've been approved to use VandalSniper. Please let me know if you have any problems getting it working. --Chris (talk) 04:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello.I'm the one who added some pictures and all on 'Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti' , actually hes my father. Some of those pictures I found online and some he sent me himself. You can checkout my album: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shahzwar555/my_photos (The first and secondlast albums) As for the gettyimages, I doubt they'd mind since I'm not using anyone elses pictures, I'm using Akbar Bugti's own pictures on his wikipedia link and pictures related to the whole situation. Also, the photographer who took the pictures a few months back Mr. John Moore is very hard to get hold of but I know they will not mind the pictures being put on wikipedia specially when its all directly related to my father Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Please, consider your decision, I'd truly appreciate it. Yours gratefully, Shahzwar.

BarnstarCongratulations! I just had to award you a barnstar for helping me clear up thousands of spelling errors in Wikipedia. --Guinnog 12:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
RegExTypoFix anomalies?Since discovering RegExTypoFix I've become an avid user and admirer... I just downloaded AWB 3018 and am finding corrections listed in the edit summary that are unchanged - an example from my User contributions page will show what I mean:
between is unchanged but is listed. It does the same with transform → transform and unnecessary → unnecessary. I suspect you may have done what I did when using regex search/replace strings and inadvertently included the correct spelling in the possible matches? I must say, I am most impressed with all the work you have done to make this such a powerful tool. Cheers, Euchiasmus 14:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the offerIf you see somebody vandalizing my page with penis pics or things like that, then, yeah, go ahead and revert, I don't mind. But if it's just nasty comments, don't bother, I'm a grownup, I can handle nastiness. :) Thanks for the offer. User:Zoe|(talk) 20:58, 6 August 2006 (UTC) GalleryI stole your coding for my gallery. Hope you don't mind. --Guinnog 01:37, 7 August 2006 (UTC) |
