Thanks for reverting vandalism. Sorry I didn't respond to your message. I was reading a Wikipedia article for a school project and then I had to take a phone call. Thanks for your interest in VandalProof! I've added you to the list of authorized users, and I will do my best to notify you as soon as a download becomes available. I was actually inspired to write this app by my somewhat disappointing experiences with VandalFighter and Lupin's tool, so I know exactly where you're coming from. Lupin's tool is about the best tool I was able to find, and VandalFighter was most definitely better than the old-fashioned Recent Changes refresh. But even combined with popups I simply couldn't stand the repetitive tedium in clicking diff, then clicking revert, then clicking talk, then typing in a warning template, and then going on to the next edit, so I really wanted to develop an app that had the vast majority of the features I enjoyed from those tools but that eliminated the tedium. I truly believe that VP1 is a wide stride toward that goal, though it certainly has a long future of improvement ahead of it, and I think that if you're familiar with VandalFighter, it shouldn't be too difficult to learn how to use this tool. Oh, okay, I get what you were saying now. I might eventually release source code but only to trusted users, where it really wouldn't be much of an issue to allow them to see my routines, so long as they understand not to change them (or I could simply remove them). But we'll cross that herdle when we get there. I thought there may have been some issue licensing it under GPL and only allowing use to "select" individuals. Thanks for the warning though. Endangered Species Act

Quick response, yo! Thanks for that. I'd like to add more information about the criticisms, and develop the article itself, but I don't know enough about it. For example, the article reads 'The stated purpose of the Act is not only to protect species, but also "the ecosystems upon which they depend."', but in the episode (that I watched last night at like 2AM :P) reads some part of the Act that, if I remember correctly, reads that the purpose is to protect endangered species 'through' protecting their environments, so the stated, actual purpose of the act would be to protect "environments" and then only vicariously the species themselves, I think.   2. Let's keep the Installation problems together with bugs, which I've now created at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs (there was a glitch in the Prefixindex and I couldn't find where the page you created was ... too late now).

Pescadores Islands

Your use of the ABW bot broke all the double byte characters in Pescadores Islands. I don't know what good those are, since they display as ?'s on my browser anyway, and furthermore what the current Wiki policy is for double-byte chars, but it looks like someone went thru a lot of effort to put those into the article in the first place.   • Firefox, Internet Explorer 6 and Opera display that page correctly. Perhaps your encoding is set wrong. View > Character Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8). I'm sorry for the confusion I have caused you. Encoding with Unicode allows editors to see what is actually in the article they are typing. You can see what it looks like before if you edit the old version here.   • Oh! So you are saying an editor with Chinese support would see those characters correctly when editing the article? I was just confused when looking here at, for example, the post line 37 diffs. On the left it says:

I'm just curious why you edited an article (Roman Catholic sex abuse cases) just to replace & hellip; with "...". I originally perpetrated the hellip; is there any reason not to use it? … is more typographically correct. If you feel that it is not readable enough, you may replace it with unicode character x2026 (…) as shown below the editing box on Wikipedia. An ellipsis is three non-breaking spaced dots. As such, it is typographically incorrect to replace an ellipsis with "...", because the dots are not spaced. It is also incorrect to use ". . .", because the spaces are not non-breaking (i.e. they will be split apart by line-wrapping). The alternative ". . ." might be considered correct, but at that point, … is probably more readable. The general reason for using character entities like … is mainly to avoid character map conversion issues on web pages. Since Wikipedia embraces unicode, using the unicode character is probably preferrable (some notable exceptions being   and &). —LX 11:40, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not all hyphens should be replaced, but it's certainly correct to replace usages like--this one--with em dashes. There are a few points to keep in mind. Firstly, as stated above, on Wikipedia, the unicode character may be preferrable. Secondly, most typographers agree that an em dash like the above should not have spaces surrounding it. Thirdly, some hyphens should not be em dashes, but the shorter en dash, such as for intervals like 2005–2006 (cf. "2005-2006"). Finally, some hyphens are correct, as in "Asia-Pacific region". I saw your subpage listed on Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser and I'd like to say it's a very good idea. I just want to make a suggestion. Your options do not cover everything, for example: <datagridFAR find=" zeebra " replacewith=" zebra " /> will replace "zeebra" with "zebra" but not "Zeebra" with "Zebra" and not "zeebra," with "zebra,". Hence, try this instead: <datagridFAR find="\b(Z|z)eebra\b" replacewith="$1ebra" />. Then, under options, make regex enabled and case sensitive enabled. This will (a) make the case of the first letter match ($1 means to replace with whatever's in parentheses, either a lower- or uppercase z) and it will match zebra but not I'mAZebra (the \b before and after stands for "word boundary"). I hope this helps you! AWB English variant preference

I noticed that you replaced "\b(V|v)irtualisation\b" with "$1irtualization" in grid computing using AWB. On the one hand, the Wikipedia Manual of Style states that "articles that focus on a topic specific to a particular English-speaking country should generally conform to the spelling of that country", and the use of "virtualisation" was in reference to a British project. On the other hand, the Manual of Style also states that articles should exhibit a uniform usage, and the majority of the article does use American English, so the edit is not wrong. Still, since it was a borderline case, I thought it best to remind you to be wary of the fact that "-ise" spellings are not necessarily "mistakes" which need to be "corrected", and some may take offence (since Commonwealth English users wouldn't take offense) to them being label(l)ed as such. —LX 11:04, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About YTMND, we came to an agreement after al ot of arguing that the article should probably be deleted, Max himself believes the article to be pretty worthless and he doesn't care if it is deleted. Oak Hill & race

Good job with Oak Hill Elementary. I'm as skeptic as the next right-brain atheist, but was surprised to learn that there are people who do "not believe in the existence of human races". I live in South Africa, a country filled with racial and cultural diversity.

Generally, culture and biological race are highly correlated. Observing people from one race adopted (literally of figuratively) by another gives some insight into which traits are influenced by culture, which by race and which by both or neither. "Culture" (including income, religion and education) seems to be much more influential in forming a persons personality than race does. (Unlike in dogs where personality seems to be very strongly influenced by breed.)

However, after stripping away the effects of culture some similarities between people of the same race persists, on average. People of different races tend to look and smell different and they are more likely to have different interests and abilities than people of the same race.

Native South Americans' last common ancestor with native Africans might have died as much as 1 million years ago. Tiny genetic changes due to the different environments in which people live are to be expected.

I don't believe your personal attack justification at all. We have a history (in fact, see above) and I don't believe for one second that it wasn't the final reason for this. Saying that my telling him that he doesn't like boobies is a personal attack is laughable. Jokingly saying that someone doesn't like women because he is deleting a userbox with a picture of breasts in it is not a personal attack. I didn't call him a vandal and you know it. I was refering to the size-changing in-line templates that are used on wikiboxes. Adding stuff to a template that doens't belong there is usually vandalism. Don't sweat it

Don't worry- Wikipedia is not a humourless place. But, it's also not a forum, so the culture here is different. As for the block, it's really not a big deal. There are respected contributors who've been blocked. Admins makes mistakes all the time, just like anyone else. I don't agree that it was justified, but it's over, it was only 3 hours, and FWIW most people who've commented have agreed that it wasn't very warranted. All humor issues aside, please do take care what you call "vandalism". Like "verifiability", this has a Wikipedia-specific meaning that is not neccessarily entirely clear just from the plain-English meaning of the word. See Wikipedia:Vandalism for more info. Unless an edit is very clearly vandalism, it's best not to call it that. Nominating something for deletion isn't vandalism, no matter how strongly you feel that deletion is inappropriate. Here's some more unsolicited advice: Stay off WP:ANI for a little while. There can be, um, personality issues (I know, what a suprise!) and you're >| |< that close to getting into a much larger and longer-running thing than you probably see. I could use a metaphor about an iceburg or a duck but you get the point. Feel free to ignore this, of course, but I'll block you if you do. Happy editing. Oh, and having your block log sullied is pretty common.

Userboxes: A New Proposal

Hey, I've noticed that you've been active on the Userbox deletion page, either strongly FOR or AGAINST the use of the new T2 for deleting userboxes. I have noticed that most of the community is strong in their opinions on this issue; for that reason, I created my own proposal which attempts to create a middle ground for the two groups, and finally get this debate settled once and for all. I was just coming here myself to leave a comment to that effect. Given the abuse that administrators are subject to on a daily basis, including all the hate email from banned users, it's the backbone which gives one the nerve to deal with a disruptive user. Please check the contributions of Thewolfstar (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) to get an idea of the sort of user whom J.sweeton@wnri.com (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) thought had been treated unfairly.
