Big Joe Turner / Honey Hush

Do I assume you are going to start to add to Big Joe's page; and his associated songs ? He is one of my musical heroes. Go for it, and I will chip in, as and when, I can. My wife downloaded a BJT compilation album, entitled Honey Hush, a couple of years ago, which got me started (belatedly) researching his work. To paraphrase Homer Simpson - Big Joe Turner - "ummmm".

Maps

I think that having redirect pages solves the problem of users finding the right page. For example, Queen Elizabeth II is really a redirect page to Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Redirect pages actually save server effort. If someone types in an alternate spelling, and no page is found, the server does a database search and returns a search page. The user then clicks again to go to the page the user wants. If there is a redirect page for the alternate spelling, the whole search page effort is avoided. It is a great savings. So, in my mind, the question about a page name is only a question about what name should appear on that page, and isn't a question about making the page accessible to users who might look for that page under a different name. I am more interested in research and finding information. The redirects are good if you want to find an article on Wikipedia. Infobox

As I spoke to Gouraganga too, Infobox gives more professional look to the article and gives easier reading of important info, like Date built, who built, architecture, etc. Hence, I'm reverting it back. I guess the appearance is a matter of individual perception, while we want to give more organization information. Kindly discuss in the talk page. Mediation

At this point, I don't feel my participation in the starwood mediation is accomplishing much. We could ask for another mediator, but I'm not sure that would help. As you know I am involved in another mediation and that mediation also doesn't seem to be progressing toward consensus in a meaningful way. Like almost all of us here, those in the mediation cabal are volunteers, and I am thankful for the time and effort such volunteers give to mediation. But although I respect and appreciate these volunteer efforts, I think the mediation cabal suffers from a shortage of mediators with significant experience in successful conflict resolution. --BostonMA ^talk 01:59, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry to hear you are looging off India articles. I however request you not to. I though you were making good contributions. You should not allow a few hard knocks to discourage you. India is a large country with a long history and there is space for every one in its vast greatness. I too went through a few tough times early on but with determination, I have made friends and contributions. In fact, my inspiration to write in detail about Somanathapura, Chennakesava and Hoysaleswara temples came from your initial efforts (Dont be surprised). There have been times when I have been treated shabbily too, but never gave up. Please think about your decision again. At the end of the day, one has to be happy with what one is doing, so eventually its up to you. Since you started doing articles on India, I believe you have open interests about the world and should not be discouraged.( Its easy for me to write about Belur/Halebidu and Somanathapura, only a stone throw from my paternal and maternal ancestral hometown ). Have you thought about a trip to India? You will find the people very friendly and welcoming. You will also learn about the country and be able to write bigger articles. Winfield Scott article

Hello,

I'm trying to make sense of the Winfield Scott (songwriter) article. Where does the year, '1839' come from? Also, Winfield Scott (AKA 'Robie Kirk') was a member of the group "The Cues", and, I believe, wrote the songs referred to in the article. HELP!!!

I agree with you completely! The case is much the same with playwrights and screenwriters. Even the best singer or actor cannot overcome poorly written words. A powerfully beautiful word - rendered in a powerfully beautiful way - is what creates a truly great performance.

Hi Matisse, I am surprised and also disappointed to note that I may have inadvertantly caused you some hurt because of my messages to you. I dont know who you are but I have often come across valuable contributions from you on many India related pages and I have always greatly appreciated it. The only reason I messaged you about SS was because I saw you working on that article in your namespace. I did not mean to cause you any distress, but later I realised that you were already distressed by some issues pertaining to those pages.

Please accept my apologies if I caused you any hurt. I certainly did not mean to. Also I request you not to stop working on India related articles or any articles for that matter. Like I said, I've always greatly admired and appreciated your contributions on the India pages. It's never once crossed my mind that you might not be Indian yourself. I'd always assumed that you were Indian, infact I was also under the impression that you might be Kannadiga, given your work on Karnataka related pages. That you are not Indian is news to me, not that it makes any difference to me. I harbor no prejudice whatsoever against non-Indians working on India related articles. Once again, I urge you not to stop working on India articles. They have always been constructive and I have always admired them. Please continue doing so. Web citations

Hi. I have completed web citations as required by wiki FAC format in Somanathapura and Chennakeseva temple articles. Feel free to do the same for the other articles I had mentioned in one of my previous messages. I believe the format I used is specified by FAC review. Also, you could use this format for Hoysala architecture I have been working on. This is an important article and at some point may go for peer review and FAC. There are several web references there. If you are interested in helping out with an article, I suggest Talakad (also known as Talakadu), a page I wanted to work on. There are several articles on this on the web to help you. I can provide my Photographs for the page. We can collaborate on this and come up with a neat page. Right now the article is pretty skimpy. Another is Shravanabelagola, an important Jain pilgrimage place and a proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hi Mattisse. I value Dineshkannambadi's professionalism and disinterest in religious or ethnic wars very much. If every editor had the same attitude, editting at Wikipedia would be much more enjoyable. However, I try not to let my judgement regarding editor's personal demeanor affect my judgement about the content of a dispute. In real life, people who are virtuous sometimes make mistakes and people who are vicious sometimes speak the truth.

I hope we all have personal investments in things outside of Wikipedia -- friends, family, interests, ideals. Our interest in our family should not cause us to add articles about them if they are non-notable (and if they are notable, it is probably best for someone else to add the article). It do attempt to avoid letting my personal feelings, biases, etc. adversely affect the project. However, it would be foolish of me to think of myself as faultless. If one of my blind spots is particularly noticable to you, then by all means please help me to see myself as others may see me.

Chamundeswari Temple and Chamundi Hills

Hi Mattisse, Chamundi Hills has other notable aspects. Besides Chamundeswari Temple, it is a notable landmark in its own right. Also, there is a giant Nandi Bull on the hill. I can't remember if it is the second largest in the world, but if not it is close. So, I don't think these articles should be merged. Just my opinion though. my reply (copy): In general the issue is User:Rosencomet and his suite of articles that promote his festivals:

User:999, User:Hanuman Das and User:Ekajati have been protecting him and reverting pages back to spam. User:Timmy12 removed search engine links within these articles [1] and seems to have been driven away from Wikipedia by the harassment and many complaints filed against him by the above users.

Many of us are concerned with links in the articles:Check Rosencomet linkspamming.

Also, all the internal linking Check on performers at Starwood Festival.

Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival was opened. Almost immediately Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Mattisse was filed. If you look through that you will get an idea of the scope of articles involved and the amount of energy they are willing to put into harassing someone.

We were hoping an out-in-the-open discussion of what constitutes following WP:V, WP:RS etc. as well how to decide issues of notability. Now it is WP:OWN and WP:STALK as people who attempt to do anything to these articles get harassed. I saw a comment by User:Kathryn NicDhàna somewhere that summed it up as she is starting to experience it over a current AFD on one of the protected articles.

BostonMA is better at explaining than I am. Please ask him. I am still intimidated by all the harassment and discouraged. Hope this is what you meant by a summary. If you wanted something else, let me know and I will try to do better. Mattisse (talk) 21:45, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict Fatigue

I am sorry you are feeling so beaten down. I still have some hope for the mediation process now that the absent mediator will be replaced. But I understand if you need a break. It has been tiring and ugly, and you worked very hard for no immediate result. At this point, whatever happens with the mediation, I think people are just going ahead and getting Rosencomet's spam and non-notable articles deleted. We don't need to wait on mediation to do that. I would have helped with this sooner, but only came across it fairly recently. I wish I could have your hope and I appreciate your kind words. However, this has been going on since August, administratior have burned out, I have been subjected to vicious attacks, people I respected have backed out. I no longer have any hope. It's not going to stop. There is some underlying adjenda that condones Rosencomet and there is nothing to be done about it. It was a mistake on my part to get involved. But I thank you. Maybe you are stronger than I am and more politically knowledable. I am not and I fail. This is it for me. I will just concentrate on writing which is really what I enjoy and ignore the rest. I'm learning to just leave when other take over and WP:OWN whatever. I'm learning to never look back or care what happens -- just move on to an unpopular article like Haitian Revolution and work in peace. If hat gets hot, move on and have no investments in accuracy or anything else. It is not worth the battles and there is no support despite the polocies and guidlines. Hi Mattisse. I know very little about the former mediator, and I am not inclined to read through his/her contribution list to learn more. However, there is nothing in his/her behavior related to the mediation, comments to Rosencomet, or interactions with you that I could not accept as being due to youth or inexperience or something equally innocent. And so, I personally would not wish to speak harshly to someone who I might later discover is only a youth doing his or her best. And so, I hope you understand why I have been forgiving of someone who has given time and effort, even if not as much as one might have desired.
