Thank you for all your great contributions to the Palm Island article over the past couple of weeks during its term as the Collaboration, I think it’s amazing how much it has been improved to this point. It was probably at Stub level when we got into it, now I think it would be competitive for Good or A Class article and perhaps over the next few months it will get up to the standard of Feature.

There’s only one day left of it being the Collaboration so if we have any last ideas as to how it can be improved lets be bold and get into it now. Hi Matt, thanks for your support with the Good Article candidate, I'm afraid I've got a huge week with work this week and so won't be able to dedicate a huge amount of time to it, but I'm happy with the list and I think we'll have no problem complying with it. Finalisation of entries to Riverina Template

Hi Matt and GW. I have tried to progress systematically across various road maps to include, as far as I can tell most rural community, hamlet, villages and towns within the template. The odd ghost town which is not on a conventional map, for example Mitta Mitta and Brushwood will be found as we travel around looking for photographs. There may be one or two errors which no doubt will be adjusted as we go through and complete articles and additions. However after combing through the maps tonight and double checking all of the names I think the current list is very complete and you might like to use it for basis of the checklists that you have created/are creating both here and on Wiki Commons.--VS ^{talk...images} 12:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is Barmedman in the riverina or is it too far to the north? I see you include Mirrool, and I know West Wyalong isn't in... Strange that there is an Ariah Park but Barmedman hasn't been created. Someone needs to mention that "old" Ariah Park was about 12 miles away, they had to move it when the railway line came through (I'm too anal about references to put my own "common knowledge" in).Ga rr ie 21:46, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My two cents - Ariah Park is in Temora Shire which is part of the Riverina. We have included Mirrool because it is literally at the edge of Coolamon, Temora and Bland Shire. However the vast majority of the Bland Shire is in Central West and Barmedman is 36 kms north west of Temora. Re Kapooka - it's much more part of Wagga than it was even in 2000. But with ongoing changes to recruit training I think Army recruits spend a lot less time and money in Wagga than they used to, and trainees from Forest Hill (largest electronics trade training facility in Aust I think) try to make up for it...Ga rr ie 00:14, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree with Mattinbgn and others above - this article needs to be renamed immediately. The article is about a department of defence location that has been officially known as the Army Recruit Training Centre since December 1, 1998 Department of Defence - Australian Army] and is located within Blamey Barracks, Kapooka. Kapooka is the suburb of Wagga Wagga and that name is required for an article about suburbs in Wagga according to the Wiki naming convention for such locations. Towns of the Riverina, New South Wales

Hi Matt - I hope you approve of a major re-write I have completed on our gallery page at Towns of the Riverina, New South Wales. As of today's date there are 251 localities on Template:Riverina. Each of these (as you will see) now has their own images page on Commons and is ready for uploading. Riverina images

I appreciate the comments thank you. I had a similar thought on image numbers - hence my leaving a gap between the two | | pipelinks between each wikipedia page and commons images. Once I get the rest of the almost 200 images up we can probably do a count on each page and add the number in the space - including a zero | 0 | where there are none (to prompt us). I agree - a lot more work to do but between the group we are getting there. Hi in answer to your query about deletion of transwikid images, use the template {{NowCommons}} placing {{subst:ncd}} or {{subst:ncd|Image:Filename.ext}} to tag the uploaded images and they then become candidates for speedy deletion :-) Regards --Golden Wattle ^talk 10:27, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Riverina template question

Thanks for the comments Matt. Good question. Sorry for the lengthy response but it will help to keep track of this question if we are asked by other editors. Naturally I agree with keeping our eye on WP:N and my way of doing that is to look for (as by the guidelines) that the location has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject itself and each other. The trouble with this is of course the/our definitions of multiple and non-trivial.

IMHO I think that any locality is a place that is worthy of being noted or attracting notice again as per the guidelines - but of course for some localities the article we create on Wiki is probably the biggest thing ever written on the Web about that location. (Also just because a place doesn't have much evidence of existence shouldn't mean it doesn't get an article eg: Methul was nothing more than a sign (image is on page) but gosh does that area produce some grain etc). To some extent then we document history and for some locations it should (and does say) that the location etc is almost a ghost town, or nothing more than a couple of dilapidated old buildings etc.

To commence an article on any location I always use a minimum of five check points for each, asking the questions, (1) is the location/village etc detailed at the Geographical Names Board of NSW, (2) is it detailed at www.fallingrain's Directory of Cities and Towns in State of New South Wales, Australia, (3) can I find it in on the Australian Government's Geoscience Australia website, (4) does the location have a postcode through Australia Post, and (5)can I find the location on travelmate.com.au. If I get a yes on at least two (ie multiple) of these sites then IMHO it passes WP:N. If it doesn't then I delete it from the Riverina template (as I did for Allaway, Wemby and Wallundry in the past few days). The only accurate way of doing this is to go through the five tests with any given redlink. For example then for Coree and Tuppal I can answer yes to two or more of the above questions - and for Osborne Wells (because of your prompt just now) there is nothing and it should be deleted. Conargo photo question

Hi Matt, UnlimitedAccess has put up a photograph of the Conargo Pub on Commons - at Conargo. The image commons:Image:Photo-conargo-pub.jpg is definitely there but it doesn't show up on the commons:Conargo, New South Wales page - and I have tried a couple of possible remedies without success. I remember you had a similar problem before - can you recall how to fix it? --VS ^{talk...images}

Further to above - we have the same problem regarding one image out of two that UnlimitedAccess put up at Jerilderie - one worked the other commons:Image:Jerilderie-ned-kelly-post-office.jpg did not? Commons and Riverina tagging

Hi Matt. I have commons and riverina tagged all articles from A - G. I notice that you are doing the same from the other end. I am about to go out for the evening but I thought I would quickly ask you if I am mistaken. I am putting in the following for the Riverina tagging {{WP Australia|class=Stub|importance=Low|riverina=yes}} thereby not double tagging to Riverina and Australia. Perhaps I am wrong with this thought??? I confess I don't know the answer. We only categorise images in one place so I thought we would do the same for articles within the Riverina region. It seems a bit superfluous to categorise in both seeing that the Riverina project is a child of Wikiproject Australia. That's great work on the table adjustment - looks and feels much better. I did post the question to Golden Wattle last night also - to see her what her views are? Then this morning I have woken up remembering that she did the first one of the Riverina tags to Coolac so I thought I'd take a look at the history to see what she did in that case ... here. I seem to have misplaced my Commons password and don't appear to have an email address registered there. Double whammy :( I've also suffered home pc dramas of late, so my archive of Mildura (and irrigation) related images is not readily accessible right now, being on my main pc which is currently out of action.

I added an older image of mine to the Irrigation in Australia article just today, of a diesel pump used for irrigation in the Mildura area. Wikiinking town names

Hi there, I noticed some of your edits... You may be interested to know, there is an automatic feature: [[Minchinbury, New South Wales|]] displays as Minchinbury and links to Minchinbury, New South Wales. The same happens when using an article disambiguated with either a comma, or parentheses such as [[Kevin Ryan (rugby player)|]] which displays as Kevin Ryan and links to Kevin Ryan (rugby player). So it saves a heck of a lot of typing mainly...

Hi there. I noticed you corrected a link from Captain John Hepburn to John Hepburn. I think you are correct that ideally the link should not include the Captain title, but since John Hepburn links to an article on a different person I think using Captain is the best way to disambiguate it. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) says "King", "Queen", "Blessed", "Mother", "Father", "Doctor", "Mister", or any other type of qualifier is generally avoided as first word for a page name of a page on a single person, unless for disambiguation or redirect purposes.

I also came across an existing example of a page with Captain in, Captain Walter Synnot. I will change the link back to Captain John Hepburn, if you think this is wrong I'd appreciate if you could explain the naming conventions to me. Thanks --Jon186 15:28, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mallee Football League 2007 Season etc

Hi there I agree with your sentiment that the MFL is notable - but individual seasons are not.

Would you reach the same conclusion regarding individual teams? I have listed North Ballarat Rebels for deletion as a member of the TAC Cup league (that can't even be right - the TAC Cup is a trophy or competition not a league). Depending on outcome I will more than likely group list Murray Bushrangers, Calder Cannons, Geelong Falcons, Western Jets and NSW/ACT Rams (who only joined the comp between 1995 - 2002 the closest result to premiership success being runners up in 1996!) Notability of Australian football leagues, clubs and players

Mattinbgn,

Thank you for your message. The English soccer leagues are Tier-10 and above as that is the eligibility for the FA Cup see Wikipedia talk:Wikiproject Football.

I would suggest that we might want to leave a message on the Australian Wikipedians page as well as the AFL Wikiproject. I think that there is a Wikiproject for Australian soccer as well. I don't think that there is for rugby union or rugby league.

On an off-hand basis, I would suggest as notability for leagues or clubs:

membership of a national or international competition;

membership of an competition affiliated with the AFL, NRL, ARU or Football Association.

For players, I would suggest:

member of a team actively competing in a national or international competition or a statewide competition before the introduction of a national competition;

membership of a hall of fame for that sport;

selection for a representative side in an open competition.

I took a quick glance over the Clayton Utz article. It is rather poor I agree. I've requested sources for most of the claims made within, and also marked the article for immediate attention using the {{WP Australia}} banner.
