Since this is a two-in-one DYK nomination, does it require TWO QPS? I'm not sure on multiple DYK nominations - OR is just one QPQ needed? You have more experience, so would have a better idea on this than myself. What if I wanted to do a five-in-one DYK nomination, does it just need ONE (1) QPQ or 5 QPQs????? Please answer here, as I have a Watch on your User Talk page--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:02, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
One review is required for every nominated article. For a double nomination, this could be satisfied by reviewing one other double nom, or two singles. The relevant rule is WP:DYKSG#H4. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM00:03, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm glad you made it clear about having a review for every nominated article. I previously then did the reviews prior to nominating the "quintuple" and your two made the number then at five done. The reviewer said "QPQs have been done" and the 5 article hook got approved. Now it is just a matter of the promoter promoting either ALT3 or ALT4.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:46, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
You might be entertained to know the person who made the edit you wisely reverted boasted about it on Daily Kos. People there did not find his edit funny. -- llywrch (talk) 00:31, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
I actually reverted them on three articles, even though I sympathized with what they wrote (as one might presume from the MAAA[note 1] banner at the top of this page). Oh, the burden of being a responsible user! I didn't bother warning them, but I thought my conciliatory edit summaries might do more to help prevent them from reinstating their edits than issuing stern warnings. Still, it's good that the people he was trying to impress told him not to do stuff like that. Thanks for letting me know. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:07, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
I see someone else began reviewing it shortly after your request. Sorry I was unable to do so, but the name was just too close to "Brett Kavanaugh", and it was simply too painful for me to even think about looking at it. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:40, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
You're welcome. Some time ago, I decided to prevent my own accidental rollbacks, so I created a script to require confirmation of all rollbacks (as well as offering the option between standard rollback or using a customized edit summary). Anyways, I hope you're keeping safe and well. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM22:05, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
...and don't forget to smash that talk button, thank, and watchlist
Hi, I can't figure out what's wrong with this template. I can access it through the Approved page, but the bot placed this line on the talk page and it's turning up red. Can you figure it out? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 16:37, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
The reviewer, who moved the article, also attempted to fix the template to reflect that move, but did so incorrectly. I've fixed the template, but the transclusion on Talk:Pancho Medrano still shows two incorrect links. I've done a little investigating to try to find the source of the problem, but may not do any more, since I'm not really very motivated – I think that transclusion on an article talk page is annoying, useless clutter. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM19:26, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
Hello Mandarax,
A week ago you let me know that my hooks for my DYK nominations of Stephen Dee Richards were too long. I added shortened versions of them the day after you pointed it out and I was waiting for your input.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:10, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
I had been fixing various issues on dozens of nominations. When I noticed your too-long hooks, I left you an edit summary comment rather than a note on the nomination page because I find that once anyone comments, it tends to keep people away, and delays a review. I've tweaked the nom some more, including the removal of the overly long hooks, leaving just the trimmed versions of them. I think that too many hooks can also keep reviewers away. But someone should be along to do the review soon. (You wouldn't want me to do the review, because I tend to be overly picky, and always find things that need fixing.) Please be patient; there are lots of nominations these days. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM22:37, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
I had no idea why you were telling me this. Then I saw that I had fixed a typo in Ervaticine, which I guess sort of explains it. I see that you've been doing a lot of redirect work, so I don't know why you didn't just convert Ervaticine into a redirect to Conolidine. If you're sure they're the same, you should do that. Note that there's a discrepancy: the conolidine article says that it was first isolated in 2004, but the ervaticine article has this 1985 ref describing its isolation. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM18:29, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
I am not sure but thought you are. I found Ervaticine by name in PubChem under article address Conolidine. Ervaticine is between other names but "other names" are not trusty and not unique. There is no data on article Ervaticine that identifies the molekule (IUPAC name, InChI, SMILES) but you must have other sources as me. Often PubChem (and ChemSpider) have separate articles for several stereoisomers and one for molecule without stereo information. There are some samples to this method in wiki too. Gyimhu (talk) 19:08, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Angels Ain't Listening
Hi. Thanks for your advice. I improved the first hook (I don't know if it is okey now and I will later improve the same in article) but I'm not sure about second. My proposal is order change in the end "that "Angels Ain't Listening" feels very 1980s and with disco-themed vibes it reminds song of Pet Shop Boys like done by them?". Eurohunter (talk) 08:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
The first hook looks better now. Thanks for taking care of it. In ALT1, I just changed one word, and it seems okay, more or less. You and whoever comes along to review your nomination can work out any final hook tweaks. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM21:02, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Most of my DYK work is kinda invisible, behind the scenes, so it's nice to know that someone's noticed. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM05:10, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Drury / Dury
Thanks for your typo fixing on Ian Drury → Ian Dury. I've always called him Drury and now stand corrected! Mujinga (talk) 19:46, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
I rarely break into laughter while watching the news, but I sure did today, when I saw that the White House press secretary declared that Donald Trump is "the most informed person on the planet Earth ...". I usually rely on Stephen Colbert (and Samantha Bee) for humorous commentary on Trump, so it's nice to know that Kayleigh McEnany is managing to make me laugh while Colbert is on vacation. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM03:55, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Just a niggle!
Thanks for your edit to Bendix Lasson Bille which is correct for 2020. The spelling of Puerto Rico which you "corrected" was in fact the spelling used in the original reference, and thus not a spelling mistake but an anachronism. Viking1808 (talk) 07:02, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
I thought it might be something like that. That's why I used the edit summary "Portorico is a redirect which is listed as a misspelling of Puerto Rico" (rather than saying something like I was fixing a typo), to indicate that I wasn't convinced it was truly a "misspelling". I had done a quick Googling and couldn't find anything relevant, and I hoped that my edit summary would draw the attention of someone knowledgeable, which it did. So thank you, Viking1808, for that. I have edited the Portorico redirect: it used to have {{R from misspelling}}, which I changed to {{R from historic name}}. I will leave it to you to decide which is better in Bendix Lasson Bille: leave it Puerto Rico, restore it to Portorico (now that it's no longer listed as a misspelling, people will be less likely to "fix" it), or pipe [[Puerto Rico|Portorico]]. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:51, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Many thanks for this. So many places have changed names over the last 250 years (Copenhagen, Oslo and Tallinn to name but three of interest to me). Let's leave it at Puerto Rico. Viking1808 (talk) 09:30, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
EEng, I just wanted to explain why I undid your addition to my user page. While I appreciate the sentiment, my page should reflect my own feelings, and at this point, I don't think Trump should resign. It would've been great any previous time in his term, but by now I'd much rather see him suffer the humiliation of a resounding defeat at the polls (assuming he's unable to sufficiently suppress voting), plus the added humiliation of having to be removed by military force when he refuses to leave office. Of course, if both he and Pence resign, that would be amazing – I'd love to see acting President Pelosi for a few months. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM21:36, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
No problem, I just grabbed the opportunity as inspiration struck. And I agree with you completely, though best of all, really, would be 25th Amendment with Pence leading the charge. Slow asphyxiation by Covid would be pretty good too – Biblical, really. So, in order, my thinking would be: (1) 25A (followed by (2) of course); (2) electoral landslide w/ Senate; (3) slow asphyxiation by Covid; (4) resign. Probably Stabbed through heart by Melania while she yells "Get off me you grotesque slug" should be in there too but I can't decide where exactly it belongs in the hierarchy. EEng00:25, 6 July 2020 (UTC) P.S. The foregoing are not, of course, personal fantasies but merely a ranking of the estimated box-office potential of various proposals acquaintances have made for fictional dramatic works.
Another not entirely unlikely possibility is that he withdraws from the race, just serving out the remainder of his term. That way he saves face and leaves on his own terms, retiring undefeated. I must admit that the COVID scenario had occurred to me, but it's better that he live to be prosecuted for his many crimes, and either spend the rest of his life in prison, or be executed for treason. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM05:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
To be clear... I don't want him to withdraw. I believe he's just about the most beatable candidate possible. Then again, that's what I thought last time – I even suspected that Democrats must've been voting in Republican primaries to get the most unelectable person on the ballot. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM19:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
He could be asphyxiated by Covid just enough for the motor damage to paralyze his hands. Then he can't tweet or grab pussies anymore. Or tuck his hands in his armpits when he feels intellectually overtaxed, or make that stupid accordion motion while he's talking. EEng22:34, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
... which is absolutely my pleasure, and about the most rewarding thing I do around here. Can you do me a favour, copy the above to my talk page on 3 August which as "my" day? ... same as Brian, by another award-giver, - and could you serve him as well (even if he can't see it). I still cherish your "excellence" which was among the first to make me blush. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:49, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Gerda. I have on occasion let an artichoke – a variety of thistle – go to flower. It's very pretty; so pretty that I use it as an iPad lock screen image. My main plant was attacked and destroyed a year ago, but I've got several small replacements in place. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM18:59, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Lovely. I took this pic last year in the wild, but have a blue variety which just began to open the flowers, and bumblebees love them. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:09, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
I see in Special:Diff/966738268 you removed a transclusion of User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8 from Bring-Gerrard form, with a comment "I don't think this is necessary". FYI, AnomieBOT adds that template to redirects it creates for en-dashed titles because without it people were wasting time and effort taking them to WP:RFD when deletion is a foregone conclusion and WP:CSD#G8 could apply. If we assume Bring–Gerrard form will never be deleted then true, it's unnecessary, but at the same time it doesn't hurt anything for it to be there. Also of note is that AnomieBOT will replace it if it ever has to update the target of Bring-Gerrard form to match Bring–Gerrard form. Anomie⚔22:15, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Anomie, It's not true that "it doesn't hurt anything for it to be there". I removed it because I work on cleaning out Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked misspellings, and I finally got tired of having to skip over Bring–Gerrard form every single day litterally forever (i.e., almost a month, since you edited the template). I didn't notice until now that it had most recently been edited by a human; I thought your bot had done it. I had read over the template documentation before removing it, and it didn't seem relevant here. G8 doesn't seem to apply without major contortions. While obviously related, the hyphen redirect is not dependent on the en dash version except, apparently, in the way your bot treats it. It points exactly where it should, regardless of where the other one points, or whether it even exists. If the en dash one were deleted, and I certainly don't know why that would ever happen, the hyphen version could still conceivably stick around – it's the more useful one, because it's much more likely to be typed in. (Anyone attentive enough to use the en dash may be more likely to spell it correctly too.)Anyways, I really don't care about any of that. All I'm interested in regarding the matter is that the "Linked misspellings" page not be polluted with permanent, irrelevant entries that can't ever be fixed without removing that template. Can the template be changed so it doesn't link to the misspelled redirect? As it is now, any time it's used for a misspelled redirect, it will be a constant source of irritation for everybody who patrols the "Linked misspellings" page. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM08:05, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
If the en-dash-using redirect were to be deleted, there's basically no chance that the exact same reasoning would apply to the ASCII-hyphen-using redirect. After exactly that happened multiple times, I created that template and had the bot start creating it. I later came across {{R avoided double redirect}}, which covers redirects needing update rather than only those needing deletion.I fear that your zeal to clear out that one report may have negative effects, as it will preclude using templates like {{User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8}} and {{R avoided double redirect}} to track redirects that need to be updated when their nominal targets change. There's no way to change these templates/modules to avoid links, as that's how MediaWiki tracks when a page needs to be updated due to an edit to another page. It would probably be better to see if the bot creating your report can ignore links that are due to these templates. Anomie⚔13:06, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
The problem isn't my "zeal". There are other entries on the list that I accept as items I have to skip over for various reasons. The problem is the faulty documentation on the template (as well as its name), which only says that it's used for applying a G8. I only removed it from the redirect because it seemed inapplicable. I'm sure there are some people who agree that G8 could be contorted to this use, but there are certainly people who agree with me that it's not applicable. If the documentation had used something like G6, and, more importantly, had mentioned that the template is also used for updating the redirect when the target changes, I never would've removed it. Now that I know that, I've restored it. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM18:33, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
G6 is also arguable, as the situation or anything like it is not described there as an example of uncontroversial maintenance. So to avoid arguments over whether G8 and/or G6 is valid I have the resulting CSD request mention all three of G8, G6, and G7. Personally I find most convincing the argument that since for R→T then R will be G8-ed if T is deleted, then the same should apply for R→T1→T2 (which becomes R→T2 after avoiding the double redirect) when T1 is deleted. Anomie⚔20:49, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Update: I said above that there were other unfixable entries on the list that I had to skip over, but there currently are not any others. I don't really care, even though I consider the template's use there to be of questionable usefulness at best (who's gonna go around deleting perfectly plausible redirects?), but ... whatever.... Yes, I wasn't convinced that G6 would exactly be applicable, which is why I said "something like G6", but it's more of an umbrella criterion, so, I still think, certainly better than G8.What the bot should do instead of adding the template is monitor a list kept in its user space, and if a redirect on the list gets deleted, change the other redirect to point to the deleted one, and do a G8, which would then actually be applicable. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM02:12, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
I see that someone else (this time an admin) made an edit similar to mine, and you reverted them (with an unnecessarily brusque edit summary). This is likely to continue happening as other users make what is a very logical edit. Have you considered implementing my suggestion, which is a far superior method of attacking this non-problem? MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM03:05, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
I just noticed "Each fact in the hook must be supported in the article by at least one inline citation to a reliable source, appearing no later than the end of the sentence(s) offering that fact.". So it will be removed after DYK? Eurohunter (talk) 19:52, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi! The official news was only released awhile ago that’s why you can’t find any articles regarding the death of this high profile inmate yesterday. I brought back my edits in the said article. Jsnueva1022 (talk) 06:12, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for supplying sources, as I had requested in my edit summary. Now, nine hours later, I'm able to find some English sources. The Filipino sources, such as you added, may have been available sooner. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM06:56, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
I did not revert your change. If you check, you'll see that most of your addition was still there. I didn't realize that it was an acceptable British spelling. I thought someone had accidentally added an incorrect partial correction of the spelling, and there seemed no point in listing a version of the word that differed from the correct one being redirected to. I had almost changed the redirect to point to Sulfur (disambiguation). That seemed (and still seems) like the best redirect target; I only left it as is because the dab page is just one click away via the hatnote on Sulfur. I had gone through and fixed all of the pages that linked to Sulpher, and most of them were not typos at all – they intended to link to the correctly spelled band Sulpher (featuring Rob Holliday). In any case, I've restored the word. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM21:54, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, also for fixing more of those DYK formalities! Today: Rhythm Is It! - I expanded that stub on my dad's birthday because we saw the film together back then, and were impressed. As a ref said: every educator should see it. Don't miss the trailer, for a starter. - A welcome chance to present yet another article by Brian on the Main page, Le Sacre du printemps. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:39, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
To tired to start September: instead of fixing DYK templates that are transcluded, you could also drop the transclusions, which I always do (unless I forget) once the DYK credit comes. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
That would definitely be my preferred solution. I think it's completely unnecessary, redundant clutter. But I would never undertake such a project (using AWB) without consensus. So, for now, I'll just continue fixing the existing faulty transclusions. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM23:43, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Nominating Walter Mears for DYK, fix?
Hi
I just nominated an article for review. I'm new and am still confused about how to do it.
I just found you in my watch list and the word fix. I'm wondering if it's because I did something wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help :-)
PS. Love your user page! Hopefully, I will be able to list so many milestones! Mollifiednow (talk) 22:36, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes, Mollifiednow, it can be confusing for newcomers. The proper way to insert your nomination into WP:DYKN is to add {{Did you know nominations/Walter Mears}} under the date when creation or expansion began. I took care of that for you. Now, you need to add one or more hooks to your nomination. A hook will be an interesting fact from the article. For example: ... that Walter Mears compared Donald Trump to Huey Long, citing historical comparisons? I haven't read the article; I just took a very quick glance, and that one jumped out at me. Feel free to use it if you want, but there may be more interesting things. Please see WP:DYK for more information. Welcome to DYK! Thanks about my user page. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks very much. Now I understand what Rotideypoc41352 must have been nudging me to do in a comment that he made.
I'm embarrassed to say this, but I think I got myself into a pickle by making this nomination. I'm in over my head =-O
I'm going to attempt to add a couple of hooks.
fyi. I just added three hooks under the question asked by @Rotideypoc41352
Hopefully, that fixed the problem.
Again, thanks very much for your help! Mollifiednow (talk) 13:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
You're welcome. I did a little formatting of your hooks. Whoever comes along to review the nomination may suggest changes to them, and may also tell you if anything else needs to be done, so keep your nom page watchlisted. Good luck with your first DYK! MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM18:05, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
The British spelling is used in UK and Ireland, as I understand it there is no need to change the "s" for a "z". Do you have any objection to me changing it back? Boynamedsue (talk) 22:50, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
Just checked, the government of Ireland, UK and the EU use the "s" spelling, given Hungary is in the EU, I think that means we should use the "s" spelling in an EU related article. I may be wrong in this interpretation, though. Boynamedsue (talk) 22:55, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
Loved the little fixes on this article. I am not a native English speaker and definitely not a "writer", and such things often keep eluding me. After making 800+ edits to the article, and some help from the copyediting team, I still can moan and groan about the copy. Can you, if you have some time to waste, do some more of the stuff you did for that article?
The biggest motherload of s**t the article is sitting on right now is the cite formats. Nowhere near the MOS. I positively feel that the burden of fixing them would be upon my poor self. Till then I will be grateful for the tweaks you made. Cheers... and Y a cup of tea. It's better than beer, you know. Aditya(talk • contribs)12:01, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
I went to the page because it was listed as having a typo, and after fixing it, I noticed a few other things to tweak. I'll take a quick look and see what else jumps out at me as in need of fixing. However, I must take issue with your tea/beer assertion! MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM19:17, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
A beer on me!
There is nothing better than to argue about beer while finishing a very big mug of the same stuff, chilled. Let's drink to that and typos, till morning. If we still can walk, we can go home then. How does that sound? Cheers. Aditya(talk • contribs)01:47, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

OMG 😲
I didn't know it was approved! I haven't seen any conversation about the article except that it met the requirements. I'm so surprised. I gotta do a happy dance 💃💃💃 ha ha.
Do they notify me when it's posted? (I'm still lost when it comes to the process)
Mollifiednow (talk) 20:35, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
The icon indicates that it's been approved. It could take quite a while until it makes it to the Main Page. Keep the nom page watchlisted, and you'll see when the nomination is closed and one of the hooks is added to a Prep area; there you can see in the "Local update times" when it'll tentatively be scheduled to run. The hook may be edited and/or moved to a different prep, before it's moved to a queue, until it eventually hits the Main Page. When it does, a bot will issue a credit to your talk page (as well as the article's talk page). MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM20:56, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining in simple English. I've had the page on my watchlist.bI thought the check ✔ was just a review and there'd be a conversation before it was "officially" accepted to go on the DYK page.
you've been so helpful and patient( honestly, I had done the withdrawal because I had embarrassed myself too much, by not understanding the process well enough). I'm grateful for your input.
Now I feel much more comfortable with the articles that I have expanded and written, which was my original goal.
Cheers! (I've been working on my user page :) I'm trying to get into my own groove here!)
Best, Mollifiednow (talk) 21:33, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
There was certainly no need to be embarrassed; we were all new once. You're very welcome for my help. I was happy to do it, and I'm glad to see that you're feeling more comfortable around here. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM00:59, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
You're probably watching it already, but just a reminder: your hook is currently in Queue 3 and is tentatively (everything's subject to change) scheduled to hit the Main Page tomorrow at 8 am New York time (I dunno where you are). BTW, I hope you don't mind, but I fixed what I'm 99.999% sure was a typo on your user page. If you've seen my user page, you know that we share an overwhelming sadness on the passing of the great Ruth Bader Ginsburg. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM20:52, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm so excited! I never expected something like this, I really just needed to know if my work was good enough. I'm east coast, I will see it in the morning :-)
NP about edit on my user page either, I appreciate the extra set of 👀. Yes, RBG was one-of-a-kind. I was heartbroken to learn of her passing. BTW, we also share the same attention to the countdown to election day ;-)
PS love your user page. Hope to build mine up as well. This is so much better than wasting time on social media all day :-) I have always enjoyed research and writing. I'm very luck to have met you and I can't thank you enough for the encouragement and the time you've spent helping me out.
Sometime in the near future, I'd like to ask for help in adding pictures to a couple of articles, if you don't mind. The copyright thing is very confusing. I don't even know if I can upload a picture, properly.
Take care!
Mollifiednow (talk) 21:24, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
You're welcome again. You're also welcome to ask about adding pictures, but I'm not sure how helpful I'll be. Most of the ones I've added have been paintings by long-dead artists, so the copyright issue is easy to deal with. Congrats again on your upcoming first DYK! MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM22:08, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for re-editting the Page I just created!
Dear wikipedian,
Thank you very much for reediting my new article.
I would like to ask, what is your advice for me concerning the article I created as I am still learning and I observed you have 16 straight years of experience.
You're welcome for my very minor edits. The advice I would normally give to a new editor would be to include sources, but they're already present in the article, including inline refs. So, just keep doing what you're doing. Welcome to Wikipedia! MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:41, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
I hadn't seen it before. I would guess that it might become common as users try to push Wikidata. I hope people don't go around changing existing infoboxes, but I bet one day a bot will do just that. I see the advantage, in that articles in every Wikilanguage will use the same data, so it could potentially prevent some errors. The good thing is that {{Infobox person/Wikidata}} will accept the usual parameters to override or supplement the default ones supplied by Wikidata. So you didn't have to change the image on Wikidata – you could've added an |image= parameter to the infobox. Of course, one will still have to know or look up the names of the parameters one wants to add. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM08:09, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for rescuing me just now. Your edit summary "typo" was too kind: it wasn't a typo but pure ignorance, alas. I am indebted to you. Tim riley talk22:38, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
It's very rude to make nosey (talk page stalker)s trawl though your contributions to find what you're talking about. Please provide a link so we can join in pretending to salve the OP's ego while, in reality, subtly making fun of them. EEng00:41, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
I did provide a link to the relevant diff, but you may not have recognized it as such since it doesn't include a "_". Or, if you meant links to the many times I've fixed it over the years, I'll leave that as an exercise for you to undertake; unfortunately, my edit summary is usually just "Fix typo", so that wouldn't be an easy undertaking.I guess when I label things I fix as typos, it's AGF-ish, as most of the ones I fix are probably words the misspeller actually doesn't know how to spell, rather than something they just mistyped. While I have your attention, I'll note that it appears that your scenario number 3 may be happening. Of course, you don't exactly have to be Nostradamus to have predicted that Trump would get COVID. I wish him a full recovery, and hope he lives a very long life.[1][2]And one more thing.... When I revert someone, I half expect to be re-reverted or to have an angry note left on my talk page. So it was refreshing when you Thanked me for this. You are a class act. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:16, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
^As for those who don't wish him a full recovery, I'll note that searches for the word schadenfreude have gone up over 30,000% at at least one dictionary site. (The Wikipedia views also spiked, but only 1700%.)
My typos
Re this edit: Yes, I make typos, lots of them. It's something to do with the way my brain works. My practice with these shipwreck lists is that when I get to the end of researching through newspapers for each year, I go back the the January list and check through for obvious errors such as malformed entries, redlinks that should be blue links, etc. I then work through Feb - Dec similarly before starting the splitting of the list for the next year. Obviously I fix any typos I spot as and when I spot them. Don't get stressed over fixing typos, they are not deliberate. Mjroots (talk) 05:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
I certainly don't "get stressed over fixing typos", and I obviously don't think they're deliberate. (Hmmmmm, if one is deliberately misspelling something, then they have a typo, the word may end up spelled correctly....) I actually had no idea who was making the typo. I just knew whenever the typo "United Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland" showed up, that when I checked "What links here", it would always be a shipwreck article.[update 1] So I was pretty sure it was the same person doing it over and over and over, but I never cared enough to check any histories to see who it was.The purpose of my edit summary was threefold: 1) I figured that whoever kept making the same mistake time and time again was probably copying and pasting from something with the misspelling, and I thought they might see the summary and fix whatever they were copying from. 2) I like to use the word I coined, "litterally", whenever I can, in hopes that it will catch on. 3) I also liked the juxtaposition of fixing a typo while using an edit summary word which the uninitiated may erroneously think is itself a typo. So, to summarize, my summary was intended to be informative while also a bit playful. I hope you didn't take it any other way. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM08:55, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
No, we're good, but it's a straight typo rather than a c&p, which is why I sometimes get it right . It would be helpful if that redirect didn't exist though, as that way it'd show up as a redlink and I would be better able to spot it. Mjroots (talk) 09:17, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Ah, well, they say one should never assume, and my assumption was wrong. I imagine the repeated typo may be the result of some kind of muscle memory. I know that whenever I try to type "think", I usually end up typing "thing". I agree that misspelled redirects are often not very helpful since they prevent a redlink which would otherwise reveal a typo. And you don't catch the typo when you proofread the rendered page because you pipe it to a correct spelling. In that sense, it's not that important to fix the piped misspelling, but according to WP:DOFIXIT one shouldn't link to a misspelled redirect, so I do go around fixing 'em. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM20:50, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
That, for some reason, is a very common mistake for me. It would be mildly interesting, for someone who has time, to see whether I always make that mistake in one direction, or whether I just switch them randomly. And whether other people who make the same mistake do the same thing. Also, you're welcome. --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:20, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
I do not take kindly to threats from you or anyone else. You said that I "vandalized" the article Impressionism, and you threaten me with banishment. I refute your accusations. I never even looked at the article Impressionism let alone edited it. Take your terrible threats elsewhere. Thank you. Wallie (talk) 11:21, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I have never left a message on your talk page or emailed you or mentioned you anywhere else. I have never even heard of you. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM16:58, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
I'd bet a dollar that User:Wallie was logged out (either they logged out intentionally, or - as happens to me sometimes - the software logged them out for no reason - and they saw an old warning you left on their IP's talk page. Probably didn't notice it was the IP's talk page, probably didn't notice it was a long time ago. At least this has been the explanation the half dozen times someone has come to my talk page objecting to a warning I never gave them. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:21, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
I had considered that it might have been their IP, so I had checked the most recent warnings I've issued, and saw that none were for that article. But I hadn't thought about old warnings. Thanks for solving the mystery! (Of course, I've never threatened anyone, IP or otherwise, with "banishment" [or anything else], but that's another story....) RBG
Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933–2020)
I had replaced my user page with a tribute to RBG for a coupla weeks right after her death, but after the new perversion of the SCOTUS, I felt I had to once again offer a tribute to her excellence. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM20:02, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
What we should do is nothing, except, if necessary, adjusting the link to the nom page on the article's talk page. But since they already did, we'll have to fix it. I see that you attempted to move it back to its original title, but couldn't because the other user had already CSDed it, so you did it to nearly the same title. I think I'll wait until the ironically-named speedy deletion is done, then move it back to that title, and then fix the template. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM23:05, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
Well, it's been almost 16 hours since the "speedy" request, and it's still there. So I just patched the existing nom page. The name really doesn't matter anyways. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM08:24, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. I wish those nominating 7 articles in one hook would know that whatever unique was chosen for the template would suffice, instead of title-snakes. Birthday of two friends today, she plays bass, he plays cello, both pictured on my talk, and you will guess what her name is - Bernstein composed a song repeating it over and over ;)--Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:23, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Note: you had sorta replied to my footnote. I hope you don't mind, but I moved your post here, and added a reference to that footnote in your comment so people will still know what you were talking about. I also moved the {{Reflist}} here, until I archive this page, because footnotes at the bottom of a talk page are not convenient.
Congratulations on DYK number 1500! The cello may be one of my favorite instruments. That is an interesting coincidence about your first DYK, which I assume was Graham Waterhouse.
Yes, it's amazing that America will be America again. On January 20, I won't have to be embarrassed about being American any more. I thought I came up with the "Make America American Again" slogan, but I just found out that Biden had apparently used it on at least one occasion. It turns out that Ted Kennedy and Anita Hill had also used it, and even Langston Hughes used a similar phrase 85 years ago, which John Kerry quoted. All of those uses are fine with me, but it was also used by the loathsome Rick Santorum; if I'd known that, I might not have used it. MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM02:31, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Looks like you've done a lot of work! Congratulations – it looks like the AfD is gonna end up as a keeper. (BTW, I've never seen the character, but I'm sure I would've found it at least as unfunny as I find most SNL characters.) MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM22:27, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! It's users like you that make it all worth it. Happy Thanksgiving to you too.For the first time, I'm serving homemade veggie turkey (made from gluten and soy). I think it's better than all of the commercially available ones, but I guess I'll see how successful it is.And, for the first time in four years, there's truly something in the US to be thankful for! MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM08:25, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting the vandalism. I was probably tired and distracted when I corrected the spelling but failed to notice the context. Even though this was months ago, I know that I only saw the misspelling and never saw the edit that created it. Nobody's perfect; for example, you made about four errors just in your short note above. ;-) MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM07:22, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
My feelings about Trump leaving office.I'm afraid I must disagree with those who are attempting to prevent him from running for office again. He couldn't win, even if the Republican Party were foolish enough to make him their candidate again. But, instead of an extremely unlikely Republican nomination, his option would be to create his own party. Besides, Republicans have hurt his precious feelings anyways, so he has no need for them any more. I would love to see him run as a third party candidate. He would siphon off a substantial number of Republican voters, thus ensuring a Democratic win. This reasoning applies not only to the Presidential race in 2024, but also Marco Rubio's Florida Senate seat, which will be up for election in 2022. (Note that the latter applies only if he's a third party candidate. He would win in Florida as the Republican nominee. I don't think he reads my talk page; otherwise I'd worry about WP:BEANS.) MANdARAX•XAЯAbИAM22:58, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
He should read your talk. I expanded Innisfree Garden for various reasons, one being that the U.S. is a bit more free today. It was a miserable stub for what is regarded to be one of the ten best gardens. Too tired for more, but determined to make it long enough for a DYK. I took lovely photos in 1996, - not digital yet, and all with people. Thank goodness the Commons have a rich offer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:12, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

ResearchGate Wikilink fix in Symphyotrichum lateriflorum article
Thank you for fixing that! I know it worked as a redirect, but paid no attention that it was a redirect! It's the little fixes like this that make articles shine. I hope you have happy and safe holidays. —Eewilson (talk) 22:30, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

^ abcFrom December 2019 until the election in November 2020, I had a banner at the top of my talk page which said "MAKE AMERICA AMERICA AGAIN", followed by a changing note which initially said "Remove Trump from office", then later gave a countdown: "<num> days until Trump can be voted out of office", and on election day it said "Vote to restore intelligence, decency, integrity, humanity, and sanity to the Presidency!" Starting in July 2020, the banner also appeared on my user page.
