Speedy deletion nomination of Ireland's Vanishing Triangle

I wasn't meaning to come off as offensive --- though I'd equally argue that referring to an actual person whose work is very well regarded in academic circles (that a googlesearch on book reviews can show, etc., keynote addresses to and publications for the UN, etc.) as lacking impact can equally be seen as negative. You seem pretty wrapped up in this topic and you need to take a step back and look at it objectively if you'd like to see this article kept. You are new here and I'm trying to help you understand the guidelines and policies used to judge whether a subject is notable. Notability of professors are judged based on WP:PROF. You might be able to show notability according to WP:BIO but there has to be references proving any claims made. That's not negative, thats just how Wikipedia works. Encouraging other editors to "read" comes off as condescending. That's not how Wikipedia works. I thought it worth pointing out, especially since are new.--RadioFan (talk) 15:50, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Google hit count on Shirin M. Rai

Remember that the goal here is to write a well referenced informative article, not a game of "find her name mentioned somewhere" : Kinda hard not to take that personally/condescendingly. I don't think intelligent people spend their free time writing articles to play some kind of game .... More to the point, the references mentioned were all related to the United Nations/World Bank (biggest non-academic institutions she's participated in), so I don't really see how they were irrelevant? Sorry if you took that personally. it was intended as good advice on how to save this article (which you seem interested in doing). Random links to the name being mentioned in books posted to AFDs or talk pages, dont help improve the article and far less relevant that well formed content in the article itself with these books used as references. Too many editors spend lots of time Googling a subject in an attempt to save the article from deletion. Remember Google hits dont equate to notability.--RadioFan (talk) 19:40, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Redirects under "Teledyne"

RadioFan: On 29 March 2011, you redirected pages for "Teledyne Brown Engineering" into the Subsidaries section of "Teledyne Technologies|Teledyne". The existing pages for Teledyne are very inadequate, and I am ready to insert a total revision including a History section. For this, I respectfully request that you reverse the two noted redirects.

Reasons: (1) Teledyne Brown Engineering is of no greater importance than many other present companies listed under Other Subsidiaries. It is, however a historically noteworthy firm, and I have also prepared an appropriate revision (mainly under History) for this and will put it up after it is reversed. (2) Teledyne Post was never a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies, but also has historical importance. I will prepare an appropriate update for Post, as well as several other noteworthy companies of the original Teledyne, Inc.

The former article under Teledyne Brown Engineering was redirected to the main parent article on Teledyne because Teledyne Brown Engineering there is no indication that the it warrants a dedicated article under wikipedias notability guidelines. It can be adequately covered under the parent article. Additionally, because of the connection you have with the company, I would encourage you not to edit either article but instead make recommendations on Talk:Teledyne for another interested editor to make on your behalf. Thanks for that. I've also posted to Talk:Afghana describing an edit of his where he seems to have taken a quote, rewritten and misinterpreted it, and added it to the article as a block quote for emphasis. Haskell Family Association

Hello Radio Fan, I am writing you about the article I wrote regarding the Haskell Family Association, while I am the chairman of the group the article is not about myself and I did make every effort to make the article informative, not an advertisement. The group has been in existence for over 26 years and has done extensive genealogical research and publication, the HFA has published 78 issues of the Journal in those 26 years and regularly places those copies in libraries and genealogical research centers around the country. If you can give me some idea of what parts of the entry are particularly bothersome I will happily delete them, but it is a group of note and I've made every effort to show my connection to the group and desire to avoid a conflict of interest.

It was written in the first person, but the CEO of the company. Whether that was your intention or not, it was hard to see it as anything but spam. The copyright issue was the primary reason for deletion. Wikipedia is very sensitive to this.--RadioFan (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2011 (UTC)


I think you must be confusing mine with a different entry, the HFA is not a company, it's a non-profit family history association, I am the chairman of it, but made that clear on my user page and initial discussion page of the entry. The entry was not written in the first person. And there was no copyrighted information in the entry, you didn't even give copyright as one of your "reasons for deletion".Careyhaskell (talk) 22:26, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Regarding references

Hi Dear RadioFan, regarding the number of references on Afghana page, I respect and appreciate your views. However, this page was intended to be a research article. If you and I desire Wiki to be a research friendly source then we must appreciate the needs of a researcher. I mean, a few more references would only take a few bytes on the Wiki servers but through an article like this which is pivotal to Afghan history Wikipedia will be enhanced many fold. I myself have published several research articles and Wiki really helped as a starting point. I hope you understand. I would really appreciate it if you did not remove the said references. This is a vague part of history that even many researchers dont know about and such references will help them greatly. As for their verification, I did check them out, of all the references I had to begin with, I only used ones which can be readily verified online, which is sad and assuring at the same time. Sad because it didnt allow me to use the more rare ancient texts and manuscripts. Assuring in that anybody can check them online. Thanx. Take care. Wikipedia isn't a web host which is what you describe above is bordering on. References in articles are supposed to demonstrate where information came from, not serve as a bibliography on the topic. Please review the article and cull some of the references.
