Still unclear...are you referring to AfD articles for deletion or to RfA...request for adminship? Either way, I don't pay attention to userboxes or what is posted on userpages in RfA's looking only at edit history. I have repeatedly voted support for liberal nominees for adminship and almost never vote oppose, instead preferring to not vote at all. As far as AfD's, I have not once looked at a person's userpage that nominated an article for deletion. I look solely at the article material.--MONGO 03:36, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I see that you agree that User:Dr Joe's edits are suspicious... his latest edit totally clinches it though, as he went to the article Mythology and reverted my changes on it, exactly like Beckjord did one or twice in the past out of nowhere, and then made edit comments on his talk page and talk:Bigfoot about how "my" mythology article sucks and needs to be opposed. RE: additional question: I saw it this morning but was quite busy at work today, and my wife and I went out for the evening tonight. Will do, I am very similar to Tony as far as making arguments anaylticaly in situations, and experience has told me people don't respond well to it. I only wanted to share that with him, as its the reason people are a bit hot-headed afterwards. You're a good editor, so I would just pop in and out of all those entangling things that Tony gets involved in. He is much more experienced in those areas than either of us. You don't need to move my comment back over to my talk page this time...I usually post on the talk page of the person I am communicating with and they post their comment on mine. In most situations, the conversations are of no consequence to other readers that may be looking at it, so it doesn't need a double post. Anyway, what I do is wrestle with the bureacracy every now and then and do my article stuff other times...if you hang around all the red tape areas too long it will stop being fun, real quick. Most of those areas are hotbeds of argument so I wouldn't mess around there unless you really have something important to add. Just my opinion, and I'm not trying to lecture ya! Fair enough, however, I shall cite that I am not infringing upon WP:NPOV. I agree to the max that Ms. Kelly's actions regarding the deletion of the infoboxes were completely correct. However, the proceding (or lack of) discussion and civility was surprising, especially considering her admin and arbcom status. Hi, my dear Mongo! I'm sorry I took a day or so to reply to your message, but it was a very interesting one and I really wanted to take my time when answering. First of all, allow me to thank you very much for your kind words and your invitation to get more involved in the project; it really means a lot to me that an experienced user like yourself has taken the time to welcome me so warmly.

Regarding your questions, I happen to be very interested in the Shoshone, and in fact I wrote an essay some time ago on the separation of the Comanche from the original tribe. I would be very happy to review the current contents of the articles you've mentioned and see if I can collaborate. Unfortunately, my knowledge of the Nez Perce and Crow Nation is not that deep, but I'll still try and improve our articles, along with many others that I've already put in my mental to-do list. I'm happy to see that we already have rich resources on the Comanche (especially at Comanche History), but I fear that large chunks of information are copvios - I'll doublecheck them asap.

It ashames me a little to ask this, but I hope you'll indulge a newbie (today is my first month Wiki-birthday!). I'd like to know exactly how working groups and projects function in WP - do they have mailing lists, or is discussion conducted directly at certain pages? Is it possible to consult a full list of all available projects? I wonder this because I'd really like to check whether a WP project on Native American resources exist or not; and in case it doesn't, to create one eventually when I'm (far) more experienced.

Fortunately, your message has also been very timely to remind me my objectives when I first arrived. At first, I wanted to write, write, and after that, write even more; but then I became entangled with anti-vandalism (I must admit I love RC patrolling!). All in all, my activity in the last couple of weeks has not been the most creational stage of my life, and I think it's time to remember what I came for in the first place.

Hi Dave! I'll be sure to remember your good advices and your insight - they strike me as great guidelines to follow while I'm here. The information you provided me on projects is great too, and it served me to observe that you are right: no currently active wikigroups deal with Native American resources, although there are some other ethnic-related ones from whose experience I can benefit. I'm starting a basic draft of a working group in that direction, and I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I decide it's ready to be launched.

On a side note, I must tell you I'm a hopeless perfectionist, and my attention to detail is my curse. Hence, when I saw your user page I thought "Hey, I think I could make Mongo's page look a little better"... and after struggling with wikicode for a couple of hours, I came up with this version. I hope you'll like it - if you do, just copy the text from my sandbox to your user page. It actually displays a little better on Firefox, but as far as I can tell, it looks fairly the same in all browsers. I thought I might as well do it

The first thing I could find so far was Harry Cassidy, but someone already gave you stick about that one, dammit. Some other deletions I looked twice at were:

  • Marissa Siketa was given speedy tag with "Typo in actor's name, articles merged.", and the log has your reason as "vanity page, zero notablity". There may be something I'm missing, but that one looks like a cock-up. The tag didn't have a valid speedy reason, we like redirects on mispellings, and the article at the time looks like it should have gone to AfD.
    Yeah, Tony did chastise me for that one. My mistake.
  • Llanrhymny you deleted with the note "content was: '{{empty}}see Llanrumney'", when Llanrumney was a valid redirect target.
    I should have done a redirect...didn't recognize the comment "see Llanrumney" for what it was.
  • Hanns Trippel you deleted and restored. Totally my opinion, but you left the article in a pretty bad state. To wikify, bold the initial sentance, and smack {{bio-stub}} on the bottom would have looked a bit better.
    Yeah, I googled it after and undeleted, but did add the expand tag. Could have done more for sure.
  • Stephen Mallinder was deleted with note "content was: '{{db-bio}}Stephen Mallinder was a former member of Cabaret Voltaire, and now lives in [[Perth, Western Australia|P...'". Err, this looks like a bad one as well. It was tagged {{db-bio}} but clearly makes claim, to an band with an article no less. Restored.
    Sidaway nailed me on that one too..
  • Philotic Web looks like it might have been iffy. Your deletion comment "content was: '{{d}}The Philotic Web (www.philoticweb.net) is a website and forum dedicated to the Ender Series by Orson Scott Card.{{Website-stub}}')" clearly mentions a well-known author, and the speedy tag {{d}} is one you should always be extra careful of. Restored and sent to afd which is probably what you should have done to begin with.
    Another Tony recycle...you're right, I should have sent it to afd and just made a no vote comment.
  • A couple that have been revived but still look like they were valid speedies are Oily Hare and Ahad.
    When I deleted Oily Hare content was "A Texas Oilman fights bugs over property right to his rabbit hole, Bugs hole in Deepinahola, Texas upsets an oil tycoon because it isn't producing an oil, And Bugs Bunny is Pretend to have a party and the oilman blows out the candle it was a Dynamite, rabbit hole has a blowout and it happens the carrots went up in the air like an oil and Bugs Bunny takes one and Bugs Bunny said ("Yeah I Know I Know But Anything could happen in texas.)" the new article clarifies that it is a cartoon now so that wouldn't be a speedy now anyway. Ahad consisted of "djakdnhkan momkey", so I nuked it!

I also do note that you mention WP:VAIN in quite a few of your recent deletion comments. You have, in the edits that I've looked over, always paired it with "nn" but that makes me a little nervous. VAIN isn't a CSD on its own, and I haven't seen you using it a such but I just thought that it bore mentioning.

This and this were a bit snarky, but after trying really hard it was the worst thing I could find!

That first one there is in response to User:Beckjord who has set up account User:DrJoe and several anon IP's, always edits the same exact stuff and vandalized my userpage with the vandal account just a day ago...but it could be seen as snarky. That second one raised an eyebrow...and for good reason, a lapse in civility for sure on my part.

You could also do with edit summaries in talk ([5],[6]) but goodness I wish I could get everyone to be a bit more consistant with that.

I have a bad tendency to let edit summaries in talk lag, or be absent...bad habit I should change, but RC Patrollers (at least I don't) watch talk pages much, just articles and userpages.

I also note that while I did check on your talk page to see if anyone had mentioned these, if Tony (as the chief restorer) has already talked to you about them on IRC or something sorry to bring it up again. If I've gotten any of my facts wrong, please do let me know.

But take off that dress uncle larry, mom's home. This is with my looking harder than I have any right to. You appear to be not only doing a pretty respectable job as an admin, but continuing to contribute in article space to an amazing degree. I'd say that that new user page was well deserved. And while we're at it, I'd love someone to look over my actions and give me a kick up the bumm when I screw up. See "treasure hunt" at the top of my user page.

I'm also perfectly happy to see this deleted once you've read it, thanks for letting me rain on your parade.

  • As far as what I need to do more of...I have been trying to get one article to featured status and am close. I am also trying to create at least stubs for every federally managed protected area in the states of Montana, Wyoming, N.Dakota, S. Dakota and Nebraska and am close there too. I'm not particularily proud of my stubs, but I do ensure they are based on the best facts I can find from sources. Sorry you wont the only lucky guy! :) Admin coaching is an Esperanza program, (I'm too lazy to give you a link to it now, but it is under "programs") which, uh, coaches admins. You know, give them all the little tips and hints and suggestions on how to go about aquiring the mop. I asked Titoxd if I would be allowed to help out as a volunteer "coach" and I was paired up with Sango to coach ViolinGirl, a great person. We met on IRC and talked over her contribs and so on for a coupla hours. Next week we will hopefully give her some "scenarios":"What would you do in XXXXX situation?" and so on. I've returned from the unjust block

Hello Mr. MONGO. I've gotten off my lockdown from the wikipedian prison. :) I just wanted to say that regarding this edit, I don't know what you mean by "hate you" and "curse you out"... I'm not angry towards you nor do I give fault to regarding the block. I do not know what you are talking about; however what I do know is that the block was unjustified, and since I wasn;t in the wrong I was not going to aplogize. While she was (presumeably) enforcing wiki-policy, she went about it in a very incivil manner and some of her comments were in clear violation of WP:NPA. She must cease it at once! I do not see that asking a simple question "How do you feel about X" in any undue way makes an RfA more stressful. I had intended to return to those RfAs before this -- I plan to do so today. Your inquiry seems to imply that asking a question is soemhow inappropriate. Even if I never returned, the answer is on record and might be of assistance to other voters. I plan to ask more or less the same question to most RfA candidates in future. BTW, you are incorrect, in at least one case I did express an opnion after i asked that question. As I said, I agree. This may sound dreadfully shallow, but I'm looking at my Rfa and thinking, I'm not going to make it, and its a pity it is because of a misunderstanding on some comments I made on an Rfa, and a couple of trolls. And being aware of that makes me wonder - how casual are some people about their voting? I don't always vote, because I cannot read everyone's edit histories and make a clear determination of whether I think they would be a good Admin, and of course I have not interacted with everyone on Rfa. And yet, I had one person vote oppose on me and state on a talk page that they only "followed the leader" and did not even so much as look at Dunc's Rfc to look at my remarks in context, and now we have someone apparently voting oppose on everyone for no reason at all, SFAIK. And here's the really ironic part - one of my support votes was one of Bonaparte's socks, and I can see no reason for that either. It will be discounted I am sure. Bah. I either disagree with their opinions, don't think they have the experience, haven't seen much of their writings at the village pump ,or don't really know them that well. It's my opinion none of this batch are qualified to be administrators. I have set very high standards, and I believe it's allowed for me to require such high expectations of our administrators if they want my vote. Thanks for the citations clarifying your concerns re: this user. I do agree that the votes they've cast could be easily viewed as disruptive -- I don't feel good about his voting pattern. But I'm an optimist when it comes to people -- I feel that if they've acquainted themselves with procedures and customs on Wikipedia, they're evidencing enough interest to indicate that they'll probably stick around, and come to contribute in a more clearly positive manner. Time will tell. For now, you've brought some discussion into it, which is probably the best thing that could be done, if anything was to be done at all.

Ok thanks for telling me how to look at an IP's list of edits on my talk page. Could you also tell me how to track a registered member's edits? I was following Crazy-eyztheonly1 a couple of days ago when they were creating a series of vandalism pages and they eventually got blocked by JoanneB for 31 hours (but not before blanking and vandalising my user page). I want to make sure they don't go back to doing the same thing when the bolck expires but I don't know how to get a list of recent edits - the same trick of typing in the user name into "search" doesn't work for a registered user. As one of my favorite Wikipedians, and someone who has for me come to embody the concept of the neutral point of view, I wonder if you'd consider welcoming this fellow.

This user seems to be getting into a spat with someone who has asked me to intervene. I think that this latter person (it's Megamanzero) is trying his best and doing quite well, but he has asked me to put a welcome message on the page.

I'm reluctant to take that decision myself in case it's seen as some kind of attack (maybe that sounds silly but I'm trying to avoid losing this fellow--maybe that's wikiparanoia! :) ). There is no doubt in my mind, on the basis of what I've seen, that both users involved are a credit to Wikipedia. Would you look at the dispute and see if you can contribute in an appropriate manner, so as to encourage both of them in pursuing the dispute in a constructive way?

I am not particularly concerned about the comments, but he will not leave me alone and nobody seems to want anything to do with it. I no longer archive my page because I'm switching over to another account. My point on Proto's RFA is that WikiFanatic, like so many others, is voting for erroneous reasons. His stated reason has nothing to do with being an admin, which shows that hes just trying to be an ass, and no one else was calling him out on it. Bug

Got a bug that is causing problems for other users as well. I sign as Martial Law, I get this mess: 111.908.567.95. Mongo, just a word of caution concerning Beckjord. Here is link you might want to look over:[12] Some of links on the page are no longer available but it will give you just a hint of his personality and behavior. He will try to wear you down to "accept" his way of thinking. What you are seeing with the Bigfoot is just the tip of the iceburg with him. Just be careful and on guard with him. And be advised that he will post personal information (as you might of noticed with L. Coleman here)and gossip on his "forum board" about others quite often. ALso RE: Beckjord... I hope your comment about a last ditch effort to assume good faith was meant that Beckjord didn't have any and not a claim that I was not being fair. Letting a harsasing user spam articles because he wears us down isn't a good policy, and removing the link isn;t bad faith anymore than removing any other spam. DreamGuy 14:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. This subject has stated that he is often in a coffeeshop w/ internet connections. Can't rule out that possiblity. This may explain some of the names used by him. There is no way to run out of designations. The coffeeshop reference is on one of the Arbitration pages. Of course he could also use "Borg" designations as well, such as 40 of 60, and there are those infinite IP deignations as well. Only analyzing the situation. How are you doing, my dear Dave? First of all, please let me put your mind at rest regarding my gifts to you, I know you noticed them and you thanked me for them - and as usual, you drew a smile on my face. I'm happy they cheered you up - you deserve that and much, much more. Regarding the Bigfoot article, just by the moment you wrote me your last message I was finishing a small research about the whole issue, and I had already had a look at Beckjord's website. I imagine how unpleasant this whole matter must be. I'm not an authority in cryptozoology nor in paranormal matters, so I think I'll just stay clear of the issue - but I'll definetely endorse your summary at the arbitration, count on that. I'd also suggest you to contact User:Mikedash, as he may provide you valuable help through this matter. I've heard he is a serious paranormal researcher and a professional writer, who happens to have an article on him as well, Mike Dash. From what I've read, he is a level headed investigator and a regular contributor as well, and may provide a unique view on the subject. Just my two cents, in hopes of helping a little.

I've never heard of him (Stephen Rosen)...Kerley was a forensic scientist, not a primatologist anyway. I put this Rosen character through google every which way I can and I get nothing about him teaching, or that he even exists.
