User talk:Kudpung/Archive Dec 2010

You said I should inserted at least one reference about the Jeong Darae. But I am curious what the fuck the reference you are talking about. Should I give you a reference in the sentence Jeong Darae (born 2 December 1991 in Yeosu, South Korea) is a South Korean swimmer. She is a member of the South Korean national swimming team, based in Taereung, Seoul. You are insisting that I should send email you the registration documents of Miss Jeong's birth? Are you really insisting that I must give you a reference about the ' 2 December 1991' the birthday of the swimmer?? If not, Should I proove that the Joeng was really a swimmer or not?? Why dont you to use your fucking fingers to follow the links at the Jeong Darae page. The page Swimming at the 2010 Asian Games will proove you that the Jeong was a really a swimmer. And all the records I inserted at the Joeng's page could be found at Swimming at the 2010 Asian Games

wow! you have alot of award!

/* Chemical process of decomposition */

Hello Kudpung, thank your for your comment on my talk page. I understand that you would like to see the title of my page changed, however I am not sure how this can be accomplished. My page is closely related to the Decomposition page, which I have re-written (at least the human decomposition section) and so I don't mind decomposition being in the title. However, if you believe it should be changed, do you have any suggestions? JenCom (talk) 16:00, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JenCom. I didn't want you to change the title, it was just a suggestion. The word decomposition should preferably not be linked in the bold opening title, but you can link to the article as many times as you like afterward. You are the expert on decomposition - I have no wish to interfere with your great articles :) --Kudpung (talk) 16:28, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Warning wrong editor

In this edit you posted a warning about an attack to the creator of an article. However, the attack was added to the article by another editor, so I have removed your warning. It's an easy mistake to make (I have done similar things myself), but I thought I would let you know for two reasons: firstly removing another editor's talk page comment is not normally acceptable, and as a matter of courtesy I think I should tell you; and secondly as a friendly warning to watch out for similar mistakes in the future. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:54, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I had already realised the error, and was about to go back and remove it when I saw the yellow 'You have new messages' banner. Thanks anyway James. --Kudpung (talk) 14:00, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Rainmaking

You inappropriately suggested deletion of the Business Rainmaking article. Yes it was a stub. Yes, I can see how it might look like a book promo. But the term is so common in business that the definition has gotten lost. All assume they know what it is but few can agree on what specifically a rainmaker is. There are a number of books on the subject, but most assume a definition of the term, or the definitions are not web-friendly. I edited the book promo to remove the advertising lingo. Next time you see a nascent article, don't assume it's a spam promo without research. I prefer to keep my eyes open instead of closing them to new knowledge. Thank you for your interest. Please come back and help us make the article better. --DeknMike (talk) 13:35, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was not inapropriate at all. Please take a moment to read WP:MOS and WP:CITE. The article is still needs needs attention that you can quite easily provide yourself. If you have a future nascent article, perhaps you could keep your eyes open to our instructions and consider giving birth to it in your user space ;) BTW, do you not see talk page headers? Just a thought... --Kudpung (talk) 14:05, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand it needs attention, but I have so little to share at the moment. I've read your links and don't understand your concerns. And what did you mean with "our rules about sharing accounts"? I have only one account and I don't share it out. (The rest of your comments are veiled as 'help', but talking down is so uncivil.) --DeknMike (talk) 20:18, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

I have just read your comment about Jerem43's RfA on my talk page. Although you and I disagree about the outcome of that particular RfA, I can certainly agree with your view that RfA in general has serious problems. I have contributed to only a few RfAs, but I have read more of them, only commenting if I really think I have something constructive to say. Time and again I see contributions to RfAs that I think are stupid, and often very unfair. There seem to be several reasons for this, including (1) editors who simply haven't enough experience of Wikipedia to understand what is required joining in, and (2) editors just reading the other comments and then expressing agreement with the side that seems to them to look most convincing. In my opinion doing this is totally inexcusable. Nobody should ever comment unless they have personally studied the candidate's history and come to an independent opinion. Comments based entirely or mainly on reading other people's comments can cause one unfair comment to start an avalanche. In this case, even though my !vote was "oppose", I thought some of the "oppose" comments were quite unreasonable. On the other hand I also thought that some of the "support" comments were quite unreasonable, too, and if both sides have unreasonable elements the result becomes to a significant extent randomised. What to do about it is another matter. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

that 'Sharks' article

Hi. I am trying very hard to make that Sharks article informative and within Wikipedia rules, yet you keep threatening to delete it, ban me, etc., while quoting Wiki rules. When I point out why I believe the article to be within the rules, you don't reply in detail. I see from your pages that you do things 'in good faith'. Well, so do I. I have no commercial link with the band in question, and I have high standards to which I work (I am a professional historian with a PhD and I am a member of two Royal learned societies). I expect my contributions and me to be treated with no less professional civility than I expect from the print editors I work with. WoodyJoe (talk) 13:51, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia also has high standards that are maintained as fast as the volunteers can keep up with the hundreds of new band articles that arrive here daily. The detail is in the links you were requested to read in order to comply with Wikipedia policy. If your band is able to comply with these, I don't see any problem for its article, and as you can quite clearly see, the article has not even been for a deletion discussion process yet, you still have time to remove any promotional content, and you have been accorded the highest grade of civility. --Kudpung (talk) 14:07, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. As I have already said, it is NOT 'my' band. To threaten to ban me from editing when I stayed clearly within the rules (I posted a link to an official networking site of the article's subject) is not civil in my book. Also, I still see no promotional content, other than the announcement for a forthcoming release. Wikipedia features whole pages on forthcoming releases (provided they are prominent enough etc. etc.), so again, I think my addition is entirely informative, rather than promotional (ie. I don't hype the release, I am not trying to sell it, I am merely stating the facts). WoodyJoe (talk) 14:23, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Praxeme article

Hello. Can you see the talk page for Praxeme article? Thanks. Krohorl

Hi. The article was tagged because it had reached 30 days without being passed by our new page controllers. Many patrollers will have viewed it during that time and will even have been unable to assign it to a relevant Wikipedia Project. Very often, the fate of such articles is deletion if our regular volunteers are unable to improve it, but I had left it for a while in anticipation that its creator would return and address the tags.
Apart from the points mentioned in the tags, the article reads very promotional, in fact very much like a brochure rather than a neutral encyclopedic page. To determine this, it is necessary only to see how many sentences start with the subject's name. If you wish this article to be retained by Wikipedia, may I suggest that you read all the hints, tips, and tutorials that are behind the blue links in the welcome message on your talk page, address the issues - especially those concerning sources, notability, images, format and layout. If you are not quite sure how to interpret any of the policies and guidelines, do of course ask me again, or at one of the help desks such as WP:EAR. If you are able to discover which Wiki project the subject belongs to, you may also approach them direct on the project talk page.
--Kudpung (talk) 01:56, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please note: All the blue words in the Wikipedia user interface are clickable links that will send you directly to the pages you want to visit.
Thanks for the tips. I'm trying to improve this step by step. The topic of Enterprise Architecture is rather new, and refers to many domains, including systems engineering, enterprise strategies, methodology and computer science. How can I assign this page to the relevant projects? Krohorl (talk) 14:18, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sources about the article "Tu Favorito"

The article Tu Favorito, was merged with the article "Los Favoritos" in a section called "Studio album - Tu Favorito". I decided to create a new article so the information stay more clear and organized. This musical group is already disintegrated and the remaining information sources are scarce; right now I added another source of the producer's website where he mention the album as one of his production work. I hope we can fix the problem of references for those people wishing to know more about this band can do so.

Happy Holidays. Puertorriquenosoy (talk) 03:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for adding to this article. Do I need more sources for verification or can I remove the template? All the information is drawn from the man's uni page and personal website. Shoplifter (talk) 05:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Unfortunately, the sources are the problem. For living people, especially academics, we must have extremely reliable third party sources per WP:RS and WP:BIO, and above all WP:ACADEMIC. Do hunt around and see what you can come up with. Leave the template for a while, because if another editor sees it, s/he may be able to add some more refs.--Kudpung (talk) 05:12, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't aware of that, thanks for informing me. I've found out that Reiter has had several of his articles published and a number of his publications reviewed in American Political Science Review. Can I use these references as a reliable source for his notability? I also linked the information on his current vocation to an article he wrote for Foreign Policy (magazine). Is that a reliable third party source? Shoplifter (talk) 05:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Publish and be damned! Yes, all us academics try to get as much published as we can. The more the merrier. It's always good to pile on as many reliable sources as possible, and these at American Political Science Review are certainly reliable. An accumulation of respected published works can indeed compensate (a bit) for lack of dedicated articles in the press about him, and adds weight to the notability aspect. Remember, that whan writing for the Wikipedia, we have to constantly juggle with the two core policies of notability, and provability. Lots of articles about truly notable people fail, because we just can't find the sources to verify it.--Kudpung (talk) 05:40, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully Google Books will make proving notability much less of a hassle. I searched for Reiter's name and excerpts from the APSR were among the first hits. Shoplifter (talk) 05:46, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New School Articles In Kansas

Hi. I noticed your comments in my User Talk. I'm creating just the basics for 3 to 5 new school articles...depending on how tired I get. Don't worry, I'll come back and fill in more in about 18 hours from now. Sbmeirow (talk) 11:02, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invite, but I only plan to fill in missing schools in Marion County, Kansas and surrounding counties for now. I've been spending most of my time editing hundreds of city wiki pages for Kansas, which will keep me very busy for a while. See my user page. Sbmeirow (talk) 11:15, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

yes, all the schools I add have the info boxes and I'll have to dig up more to fill in missing details that I couldn't quickly find on their web sites. I don't know what the heck is wrong with the GPS coords from the government GNIS database, but they seem to all be off by a block or more thus far, so I put them in anyway for now. I am sorry that your first three created articles have been tagged for deletion, but you really should read the instructions first. All articles, especially those about people must have references to reliable sources. You cannot use the Wikipedia itself as a source. Do check up on our policies by following the links in the welcome message on you talk page, then you will find it much easier to be a successful Wikipedia editor. Please remember to sign your posts (look at the way I do it at the end of my messages, by using four tildes like this ~~~~, or the signature button at the top of this edit window).
You can try using the reference, but I am not sure if it will pass WP:RS and WP:V because I don't know much about Indian web sites. The best thing to do is to put in a request at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. They will tell you if it is good enough. remember that sources do not however make a person important enough for an article in Wikipedia. It's the other way round: if they are important enough (what we call notable) , the source will prove it. Good luck. --Kudpung (talk) 00:28, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:ChinoHills logo.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:ChinoHills logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hi. You'll find all the answers and info you need if you simply follow all the links that I and User:VernoWhitney have already put in the many messages on your talk page. At Wikipedia, we take policy and guidelines very seriously, and it means in that order to maintain quality there is a lot to read, but I guess that's the downside of being the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and wants to write just one or two short articles. :) In a nutshell, the two most important core policies are WP:NOTABILITY and WP:RELIABLE SOURCES, but do please read all the others, and remember that sources do not confer notability, they just confirm it per WP:V. Articles about people are the ones where the rules are most strictly enforced. Such sensitive articles are always best prepared in your user space first until they are complete and where they won't get deleted.--Kudpung (talk) 05:10, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on a school page

Hello, you said that the article that I created, The Hayfield School, needs checking for conformity with the school page guidelines and that fixes need to be made. I don't know where to start or what needs editing; a lot of the guidelines seem to be covered. Could you offer any advice? Thanks in advance. Cmbwz (talk) 20:46, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Cmbwz[reply]

Hi Cmbwz. As school articles go, because so many are created by pupils, it's actually a rare pleasure to see submissions like yours. However, Wikipedia can be a finicky place, and all articles need a tweak or two before they sit perfectly. Some of the minor but nevertheless important details that need your attention include: stub sort template, infobox content (no flagicons, approx. instead of 'c', school logo), footnote format, categories, talk page template, no promotional statements or league tables, more use of attributed information from reliable sources such as Ofsted, etc.
You will find examples of good school articles listed on our various project pages at WP:WPSCH and precise advice at WP:WPSCHOOLS/AG.
Don't hesitate to ask me again if you need more help. --Kudpung (talk) 21:41, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like this is back up and running, which should make things easier. CT Cooper · talk 00:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it's a new bot and trials started last night for some selected projects including Schools (because I made a noise about it). We'll see how it goes. I still also need that NewPage bot thing setting up but I don't know how to compile the grep.--Kudpung (talk) 00:22, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see now. Other projects such as WP Eurovision are not getting any updates yet, and DYK reports are not yet coming through either, but a report under test is better than no reports at all. Unfortunatly, I can't help much with programming a new page bot for schools, though one would be helpful. CT Cooper · talk 16:23, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested in everything to do with Worcestershire, especially Malvern. I've made some changes and I've I've left some notes on the article talk page where I think it's best to centralise any discussion. Keep up the good work.--Kudpung (talk) 09:36, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Useful boilerplate

Hi, Kudpung, and season's greetings. I have written a response to an inquiry on my talk page, and since you are active in speedy deletion nominations and at WP:EAR, I thought I would provide you with a link to this time-saving boilerplate message. The question was, "How do I write an article about a company?" Here is the link: User:Diannaa/Company. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 17:07, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Diannaa. Thank's for that, it's a very good idea. If you're interested , I use a couple of custom welcomes for new school article creators. Same kind of thing. Let me know. BTW your User:Diannaa/My Templates page has a category on it that has inadvertently placed by the translation template. I think just deleting the cat with Hotcat would probably do the trick. Take care, --Kudpung (talk) 02:35, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are Kind

To us Jewishs, 8 days of the beautiful holiday of Chanukka are ended. Speedy deletion declined: Paul Birnbaum

Hello Kudpung. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Paul Birnbaum, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. - Played for two bands with articles and also contained the phrase most well know... So I've changed it to a BLP prod. Thank you. ϢereSpielChequers 19:26, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Centrify Corporation

Sorry, am a newbie here, so excuse me if i am doing things incorrectly. My first article was marked for speedy deletion and poof gone. In my talk area i was linked to you to discuss. So I created an article on "Centrify Corporation". A competitor of Centrify Corporation made some disparaging comments, then marked it for speedy deletion, then in editing out the disparaging remarks the un-delete was accidently taken out, a new article was posted, and bang it was immediately deleted. So I am humbly asking that this article not be deleted for the following reasons:

(a)Centrify is a software company that has 2500 customers and is used by 40% of the Fortune 50

(b)it employs in excess over 100 personnel

(c)it is funded by some of the most well-known Venture Capitalists in Silicon Valley, e.g. Accel Partners who is an investor in Facebook.

(d)it has raised $36 million in venture funding, making it one of the most well funded security software startups in recent memory.

Net net Centrify is a legimitate company, with a wide ranging install base, top tier investors, etc.

Specific to the content of the article (a)the content itself was paralleled on articles from Cyber-Ark and BeyondTrust, which are on wikipedia. I used Cyber-Ark's article as a template for this article, with the assumption that no one complained about it, so it was a good template to use.

(b) There were numerous footnotes/citations (15 I belive) backing each statement in the article, ie references from some of the most prestigious IT magazines who wrote about the company.

I ask please un-delete/re-instate. There are articles on much smaller security software companies who employ less people, have less customers, have raised less money, etc. then Centrify. Compare the Centrify article to the article posted on Cyber-Ark, again that was used as a template.

Thanks for your attention to this.

Since you supported the addition of this feature previously, you might be interested in this thread. Thanks. SnottyWong comment 21:37, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes,thanks for the heads up. I had already added myself to the new thread. There appears to be little active follow up on all Twinkle feature requests. Maybe the developers are just too busy. Understandable. Kudpung (talk) 01:39, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

new sheriff in town?

not meaning to come across as obtuse, but are you an adminstrator? Even if u were, I don't see how this empowers u to throw around block warnings to editors for following wikipedis policy/guidelines. I suggest u review your approach. --Merbabu (talk) 05:55, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The warnings which any confirmed user can place, are aimed at avoiding disruptive editing following complaints made by editors to a help department. No reports to WP:ANI in this instance. I don't see any instance where you have been warned personally for any action. Please review our WP:CIVIL guidelines. Thank you.--Kudpung (talk) 06:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Gratuitous incivilty". Could you show me with diffs which editor you are referring to? cheers. --Merbabu (talk) 08:09, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you wish to obtain support for your edits, I suggest you open an an RfC and the community will accept the consensus. If you wish to complain about individual editors or admins, again, you are welcome to take your problem to the appropriate notice board. I don't recall having addressed you personally in these matters or even having mentioned your name. Please read the instructions on the top of this talk page. Thank you, and best wishes for 2011. --Kudpung (talk) 08:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My comments here have nothing to do with "my edits". They are about you. If you're going to accuse people of being uncivil, then back it up. Don't run away and hide under general "appropriate notice board" comments. You see the thing is, I find you uncivil and your block warnings completely inappropriate. And, here's an uninvited tip: if you want to keep people on your side and even influence them, you might want to think twice from suggesting long term editors read WP:CIVIL - you "may get blocked for that." Have a nice 2011 back. --Merbabu (talk) 08:50, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fancy de-substing these infoboxes from 2008? Here is one example. I'm guessing

are the same. Regards, Rich Farmbrough, 10:31, 30 December 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Please comment on any connection you may have with IP User:71.87.114.67 - REPLY

I have no connection with this IP user - the geolocate tracking for this address states that it is in Madison, WI and I am in the Twin Cities of Minnesota (as indicated on my user page for some time now). In connection with the Oh My G*d - It's the Odd album article you proposed for deletion, I think it's notable due to the fact that it is an early release by a band in which Mark Mallman was a member, as indicated in the article's lead paragraph. Etron81 (talk) 16:52, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think I did find more sources. The local source (The Bulletin (newspaper)) is really rather major, since it's Philadelphia. And I found others. He's done a book, and other things that make him sufficiently notable per RS. The thing here is, we can cover the cafe in the bio, but not the person in the cafe article. So, since he's notable I redirected to a bio, thinking that is neater and the cafe article is really small, and that doing it that way would make it more likely people would work on things. Anyway, see what you think. BECritical__Talk 20:36, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't actually see any changes in the article yet, but another editor has taken it to AfD and I see some suggestions have been made for references. Perhaps you can use them. --Kudpung (talk) 22:31, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, if you are going to go around appealing to editors about the AfD, please get your facts absolutely right - I did not say that I would propose the article for deletion or anything like it.Kudpung (talk) 22:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, you said "I hesitated before proposing this article for one of our three paths for deletion" which can be interpreted in two ways: you hesitated before doing it, and you hesitated and then did it. However the first interpretation seems to me to be more logical re your sentence. But nevermind we understand each other now. I didn't speak about it to editors not already involved in the AfD. And thanks for being kind and respectful re your message on my page. BECritical__Talk 00:12, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Making article 'real'

How am I able to convert this into a real article? What other improvements could it use before going 'real'? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JustInn014/Biersach_and_Niedermeyer_Co. I have found sources backing up what is in this, however I do not know how to get it to make a citation. --JustInn014 (talk) 07:15, 31 December 2010 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JustInn014 (talkcontribs)
