If you're leaving me a message about being globally renamed, I will reply to you here as soon as possible if no one else does. As you can see, this is a popular place to be along with my inbox. In the meantime, visit CentralAuth to check on the status of your account, or visit Special:MergeAccount to try to consolidate your usernames.
@Xeno: Sure? It's completely up the community. GlobalRenameRequest was built with the idea that it could be used in place of local systems on whatever project chooses to do so, apart from SUL finalization. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:30, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Great; we've started directing users there for straightforward requests. If you could take a look at phabricator:T96957, I think it's better for the user experience if they receive a reason for rejection. Thanks! –xenotalk20:37, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Likely so, the rejection reason. Legoktm just got back from vacation, he'll likely look into it when he gets caught up and has the time. If he's too busy I'll poke at someone else. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:44, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am seeing a lot of these accounts re-created. We might hope that they are being re-created by the owner of the SUL. IS there a way to check that this is happening? The accounts I checked were unattached on the SUL page. All the best: RichFarmbrough, 19:19, 28 April 2015 (UTC).
During the initial months of the GlobalRename facility the logs weren't being (desirably) replicated to the local rename log when the user account existed on that project.
xTools down; database being recovered, Nik Everett overload
Keegan, I was trying to fill in a form for AAAS access. My statistics are in xTools, but it's been down. I think this is due to database problems. "No revisions found" While searching, I was alarmed to read that Nik Everett has been working day & night to debug this.
Since we are all human, we cannot drive ourselves to exhaustion & worse without destroying ourselves. Please convey my concerns to Nik Everett that he get some rest. Then he needs to stay on a sane schedule. This is a management issue.
I would be happy to email Lila if you think it would help to preserve the people behind the encyclopedia.
@Ancheta Wis: How very thoughtful, thank you for expressing your concern. I'll pass this along. Happy editing to you, and thanks again for being a caring human :) Keegan (talk) 03:03, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Username changed
Hello Keegan,
For years, I had the same username, Elagatis, in the English and the French wikis. In April, you changed my French username in Elagatis~frwiki. Can you please restore my previous French username ? Regards – Elagatis (talk) 09:57, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Elagatis: Hi there. Right now there is not a way to merge the two accounts together. However, as you might have seen, your account still works on the French Wikipedia. For now you can redirect your ~frwiki name to the right one, but we cannot put the contributions together. I hope that will be possible in the future, but for now trying to do so breaks things. In my opinion, the next logical step is to inform someone at the WMF legal department. My problem is that there does not appear to be any noticeboard associated with the WMF legal department and every member of the WMF legal department appears to have a user talk page that cannot be edited.
I am unwilling to use email or post to a mailing list because I want everything involved with my proposals to be open and accessible through the history of the page where the discussion occurred. Can you suggest a way that I can contact legal regarding this matter? -Guy Macon (talk) 17:37, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Concerns about lack of community collaboration for MediaSearch
Hi Keegan—the page at mw:Help:MediaSearch, the new search tool on Commons, currently offers no way for the community to provide feedback, and multiple threads at the talk page, including ones where you have been pinged, have so far been met with silence. Has the WMF sought any input at all from the community on this? Do you care what we think? {{u|Sdkb}}talk18:57, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The appropriate place to leave feedback is at the talk page on Commons. Feedback was solicited there for over a year while developing the tool, working extensively with the Commons community. I haven't responded for two reasons, I was off work combined with I no longer support this project. I've notified the appropriate people about the Help page. On a personal level, I'm quite disappointed that the project principle of assuming good faith didn't take place in this message to me. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:40, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to see that there is a forum. Regarding AGF, the initial ping to you was five months ago. I demonstrated good faith by assuming you may have just missed it and trying again, and then waiting more than a week for a reply. It occurred to me that you might no longer be on the project, but in that case, I would've expected someone on the team to have noticed given that it's their own page, or you could've easily replied and noted so without making me follow up here at your talk page. {{u|Sdkb}}talk21:19, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We might disagree on the philosophy. To me, assuming good faith is, "Someone did not respond to my ping. Perhaps they're busy or something's up, I'll ask them directly." Assuming bad faith is, "Someone did not respond to my ping. They must not care, I'll ask them about that directly." One approach is collaborative, the other is confrontational. I prefer the former, it's how the project got to where it is now. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:36, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
