Regarding revert [1] on Vellalar

Hi there, thank you so much for reaching out. I appreciate your proactive approach! After reading your message, I can see how my edit might come across as WP:OR, but I want to clarify my intent. The current text, in my opinion, doesn’t seem factually accurate or at least lacks the necessary distinction between the terms வெள்ளாளர் (Veḷḷāḷar) and வேளாளர் (Vēḷāḷar). Both terms are often transcribed as "Vellalar," which can lead to confusion. However, in Tamil Nadu, the Vellalar caste actually uses both terms, and they have distinct historical and social contexts.

The Tolkappiyam does not contain the term Vellalar but refers to a group of people called Velaan Maanthar who apart from practising agriculture had the right to carry weapons and wear garlands when they were involved in affairs of the state. The term Vellalar itself occurs in the sense of a landowner in Paripadal.

Because of this, I feel that the current statement is partially misleading or, at the very least, lacking in clarity. It doesn’t specify which term is being referred to. My goal was to clarify this distinction, as the people referred to in Tolkappiyam might indeed be the same as the modern Vellalars, but we need to be clearer about which term we are referencing.

Read WP:LEAD and references added to the article's lead explanations [a][b][c]. This one you can try. We gather information from the article's lead sources. We refer lead sources when we add information in the middle of the article. So we don't need to add the source to avoid WP:OVERCITE. The lead sources must be credible and peer-reviewed.
