FINA World Champs

No problem. I'm looking forward to these championships very much so! Although I probably won't be editing as much as I like to (because of school), I still want to do my part. When the start lists comes out for the swimming events, lets try to get on those and create those pages quickly. The pages for the 2010 FINA short course champs is a good guideline that I want them to look like. Philipmj24 (talk) 22:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I feel like for the heats, it should be one mass table so the article isn't so long. For example, this and this. And I do agree the semis should be split because the competition is higher in those events. But yeah, lets shoot for consistency in these articles so they all don't look different. Well, I'm hoping the start lists for the swimming events come out so we can get started. 68.89.210.16 (talk) 16:27, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you removed reserve players from the medalists list for synchronised swimming events. Since they all get the medals, it seems that no matter they are reserve or not they should be equally credited, and we should give the complete list?:-) Aa4 (talk) 13:14, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I only noticed that in the last awarding ceremony maybe two days ago. In today's event, each team got ten athletes on stage.Aa4 (talk) 13:33, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Working on it...Aa4 (talk) 13:41, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Hey, when you create a new swimming article could you not capitalize women's or men's or swimming? For example, you put The Women's 100 metre freestyle competition of the Swimming events... That is not grammatically correct. Philipmj24 (talk) 22:18, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
In the english language, you usually only capitalize the first word of a sentence, names, or a proper noun. There are several more rules to it and if you want to know you can just do a google search. How about this, How about you tell me why you would capitalize it? Philipmj24 (talk) 22:25, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Just to get ahead. Philipmj24 (talk) 23:16, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

I see you don't edit the heats from morning session. Will you be here for the finals ? Aleksanderpc (talk) 12:24, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Please update the section with morning heats because I'm busy with the FIFA WC qualif. Aleksanderpc (talk) 12:46, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you removed this template from a couple of 2011 WAC articles such as Open water swimming at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships. Wouldn't it (in general) be convenient to have a template in all articles which are linked to in the template? And if this is not the case, why don't you remove the template from all the equivalent articles in the template, such as e.g. Diving at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships? (Of course you can ignore that last question if you were still going to remove those). Gap9551 (talk) 11:50, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

[re:] That would be a very nice solution. I agree there is no need to directly link from Diving 2003 to Swimming 1982 etc, but a template per discipline would be convenient to have. Gap9551 (talk) 08:34, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Gap9551 (talk) 09:16, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Template:GroupAHBStandings

Any particular reason why you blanked the template and reverted it back? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 01:16, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

I see, I think its because the header Group A is included in the template. If anything if you click the edit button beside the preliminary round it should work. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 13:47, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Ireland F1

2011 Green Property Mens Irish Open, 2011 Green Property Mens Irish Open – Singles, 2011 Green Property Mens Irish Open – Doubles - look. Imho we should delete these articles. What do you think about that?

PL Alvarez Talk, 14:22, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Why did you revert my minor edits in this page? In Chinese names consist of two or three syllables which all have separate symbols. Technically, they should be written like names from Malaysia and Hong Kong (like Lee Chong Wei and Wong Wing Ki), but since the standard for Chinese names is Jiang Yanjiao, etc. the trisyllabic names are not written separately. However, when we started to abbreviate the names in the Badminton brackets we did use the initials for all three syllables (Jiang YJ as opposed to Jiang Y). There was no opposition to this and no one tried to do anything differently, so I am curious as to why my edit was reverted. If we are going to write Jiang Y for Jiang Yanjiao then shouldn't we also write Lee C for Lee Chong Wei?--SargentIV (talk) 02:32, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

While Chinese names are written as three words in English, in their original form they have three symbols. Note that with athletes from Chinese Taipei their names are written as Chien Y-c. If we only use one initial for the athletes from the People's Republic of China then Chien Yu-chin's name should be written as Chien Y.--SargentIV (talk) 22:23, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Don't worry about getting Chinese names wrong. It has to be said that because the languages are so different that names are not going to transliterate well. I'll also add that User:Aleenf1, who edits many badminton pages, seems to be rather knowledgeable in the differences among Chinese, Malaysian, and Vietnamese names etc. In doing many of the edits of the Super Series pages he never changed Jiang YJ and to Jiang Y which is partly why I believe that's how the names should be written. Anyway, good job on updating all of the badminton pages, plus all of the basketball and tennis articles you contribute to, in addition to just about every other sport on the Olympic program.--SargentIV (talk) 21:53, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Offical versus unoffical sources for match reports

Consensus has been reached that forcing the use of 'official' sources, such as club websites and the websites of UEFA and FIFA for match reports is not acceptable. The source I used is reliable and has comparable coverage, there is no reason to replace it, so please don't. If you want to use the 'official' source yourself, you may still do so if you are the first one to work on an entry.

Please see this thread on Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard and this WikiProject Football post for details.

2011 euro basket

I made a mess with thinking countries were eliminated when they were not--sorry.18abruce (talk) 17:08, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Actually no one has clinched or been eliminated yet. Third place can have two wins in both group A and B, so all teams with 0 wins still have a chance to be in a tie-breaker including teams they have beaten. Also, both first place teams could finish in three way ties for 2nd with 3 wins and end up 4th. Plug in some hypotheticla results from the remaining games and you will see.18abruce (talk) 17:37, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

That's right, but the only chance for a dramatic conclusion is to have Macedonia, Greece, Croatia and B&H with 8 points, and that's possible if only B&H defeats both Croatia and Macedonia and Croatia defeats Greece in the last round. Then, among the four teams Macedonia and B&H would pass through because of the two wins in the tie-breaker, while Croatia or Greece will finish third with one win. Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 17:31, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Yes, Macedonia is currently first because of the H2H, and it's all clear if Croatia don't lose to B&H tonight. Best.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 17:31, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

According to the official website of FIBA, Greece is in front of Macedonia. Looking for information before updating the articles. http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/

I advise, for now, following the official website of FIBA. Users may find that the upgrade of Wikipedia is wrong. At the end of the round, when the site is finished updating, Wikipedia should do the same. Well .. is what I think ...

2011 fiba america

Got the right dashes and everything today I think! Do you know how Fiba officially handles the final ranking? In the past, teams who were eliminated in the same round were classed evenly if their pool position was equal, except in the 2010 worlds they assesed specific ranking for 1 through 24. the question is whether both paraguay and cuba are ranked 9th, or is it paraguay 9th, cuba 10th?18abruce (talk) 16:06, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Fiba has been inconsistent with the ranking in the past, probably not worrying about it until they release a ranking is for the best. It makes very little difference for the americas tournament, but is significant for eurobasket--some anonymous user already tried to make a huge mess of it so we will see what the next few days bring I guess. Keep up the good work.18abruce (talk) 16:39, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
