Pashtuns and religion

Hello there Kaizenfy,

I had recently a pending edit on wikipedia with you about wiki/Pashtuns You have sent me a message to discuss this :) I just wanted to discuss and clarify this. Pashtuns are an eastern Iranian ethnic group located in Afghanistan and North western parts of Pakistan (along the border with Afghanistan) During the British Raj, Indian merchants came mostly to Kabul and other city for trade purposes see: Hew McLeod (1997). Sikhism. New York: Penguin Books. p. 251. ISBN 0-14-025260-6. Along with them also Hindus etc. This page that was used as a source to "clarify" the reason why Hindus should have been included in the religion section is not based on anything please see that newspaper page. Yes, Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan are Pashtunized but they are not ethnic Pashtuns. For example you cant count Asian into ethnic English in the UK but you call them British Asians etc etc. But by ethnicity, you cannot call the Sikhs and Hindus Pashtuns. They are Afghans (or Pakistani by nationality) but not ethnic Afghans/Pashtuns.

Please see the "Hinduism in Afghanistan" page as well You can even go and travel to Afghanistan or western Pakistan and ask a hindu himself whether he is a native Punjabi/hindki haha. I hope you get my point.

The only "Source" the person who made that change about Hinduism in Pashtuns was a random Hindu newspaper as you can see by yourself. thehindum/news/national/tattooed-blue-skinned-hindu-pushtuns-look-back-at-their-roots/article22645932 This is not a legit page to use as a source its not even sourced biased, not to be racist but even the surnames arent Pashtun. . Please look at the pages I gaven for more info ;)

So in short these people are ethnic Hindki/Hindko (so they are an indo-aryan ethnic group part of the Punjabi people) and moved to the region. You can look it up.

But the most clear and best source to use for my argument are found in this book Chisholm, Hugh (ed.). "Hindki". Encyclopædia Britannica (11th ed.). Cambridge University Press. which is sourced in this wiki page as well https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindkowans Journal of Asian history, Volumes 35–36. O. Harrassowitz. 2001. Retrieved 2008-08-17. The real opposition to Pashto came, however, from the speakers of Hindko. A large number of Sikhs and Hindus, all speaking Hindko, lived in the cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had a voice in the legislative assembly, this was often perceived as the non-Muslim opposition to Pashto.

I am very open to discuss and hear your arguments if you have :) My apologies for not explaining much during the edit I made, I hope its now clear (my sources and my argument)

Please change it to the change I made (deleting the hindu section) I do not have the power to do that. I have been visiting the Pashtun page for years and this so called info on religion is changed recently because I have never saw it in previous years.

Hello Casperti, thank you for your very detailed message explaining this subject, it goes a long way about your knowledge as regard this. But first you need to understand that the said edit was done by an IP no which has been found mainly to cause Wikipedia vandalism, also that there was no subtantial reference to support your removal when the edit was made and that is un-encyclopaedic. I have done my findings on the subject as well and understand where you are coming from. I will encourage you henceforth to use your username for edits on Wikipedia and not IP no.. Hey there Kaizenify, Thanks for your reply and your welcome message. Only there are some fellow wikipedia editiors that keep editing that section. Do you have any tips or hints for that of what I should do? Because I am not vandalizing or anything I just want to make sure the information is right. with proper references. Far from it, am devoted to knowledge spring-up across all boarders. I reverted the edit mainly because it wasn't well referenced and Visa policy of Russia have constantly been vandalized by IP users. I am glad that you are far from it.
Your information is wrong. Article is exposed to vandal changes less than other similar visa articles from top-10 visa articles in popularity. They are not protected, and the Russian article is protected. I consider that this protection is not necessary for this article long ago. But when I tried to inform of this sensible thought, my ip was blocked for a month without reason explanation. Therefore I consider that it is russophobia and attempt to control updating of the Russian article.
Unfortunately, my account was blocked because of misunderstanding. I use the general ip for editing. Probably, it violates rules, but it is difficult to wean from Wikipedia after 5 years.

I've reviewed the nomination. I suspect you know the subject, but the article is written in a sufficiently neutral way that it should be ok. In general, you shouldn't be writing about people you know as per WP:COI. What you could do is take a photo of the subject and upload it to Wikimedia Commons; the photo that is there has licensing problems and I have nominated it for deletion. But to put it on record, I have no association with the subject in anyway; the article was created as part of my personal project to create Wikipedia article for deserving Africa climate activists so as to bridge the gap that exist which all started from Twitter. I created the article in good faith as I have created for other African climate activists in the last few weeks which include: Vanessa Nakate, Maria Auma, Elizabeth Wathuti amongst others. As regard the picture; women in red project reached out to the subject on Twitter so she can donate her images and then showed her the steps to take and already obtained license of copyright from the photographer before upload. The proverbial "can of worms"

Greetings, Kaizenify! Tell me, please, is there a Yoruba expression similar to the English "can of worms" (not as bad as a Pandora's box, more a mess than actual evils)? Because when I did the page move on Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), I didn't realize how many pages were in the Category:People's Democratic Party (Nigeria) politicians (8 subcategories, 132 pages!) and numerous additional related categories. And moving a category seems to be beyond my user authorizations. Do you have experience with this? My gut feeling now is that the page move in EN WP was enough for now... Radical approach to a new BLP

Hello again, Kaizenify. I have a tip to share, totally unofficial, about saving information in advance of writing a biography page. Create an item in Wikidata for the subject and start filling in content, including sources. It will be ready when you start drafting the page in whichever WP language project(s) you choose. I did this last month after reading a mainstream press interview with a new candidate in a small, veteran political party in my country, which is about to hold its fourth national elections in less than two years. She isn't notable yet in any language WP, but I'm hoping she will be. I recommend this approach to all the newer contributors I mentor.   • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Okpella Development Association Edits

I am messaging to understand how to make the page I created more credible. It seems as if the sources I found are the only ones available. I hope you saw the comment I made on my talk page too, I just don't know how to go about this. To encourage boost for the contributions of the participants, we're offering prizes for Feminism and Folklore local prizes. Each Wikipedia will have three local winners:

  • First Prize: $15 USD
  • Second Prize: $10 USD
  • Best Jury Article: $5 USD

All this will be in gift voucher format only. Kindly inform your local community regarding these prizes and post them on the local project page

The Best Jury Article will be chosen by the jury based on how unique the article is aligned with the theme. The jury will review all submissions and decide the winner together, making sure it's fair. These articles will also be featured on our social media handles.

We're also providing internet and childcare support to the first 50 organizers and Jury members for who request for it. Remember, only 50 organizers will get this support, and it's given on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form will close after 50 registrations, and the deadline is March 15, 2024. This support is optional and not compulsory, so if you're interested, fill out the form here.

Each organizer/jury who gets support will receive $30 USD in gift voucher format, even if they're involved in more than one wiki. No dual support will be provided if you have signed up in more than one language. This support is meant to appreciate your volunteer support for the contest.
