Re: Opinions on the success of the revival of the Olympic Games in 1859, 1870, 1875Opinions about the success or a failure of any revival have no place in an encyclopaedia. Besides how can anybody consider the Olympic Games that were held in Athens in 1859, and 1870 as a failure. Firstly, the 1859 Olympic Games was the first modern international Olympic Games. It had Greek athletes. It had athletes from the Ottoman Empire. It had athletic events comparable to those held in ancient times. It had medals. It had Olympians. It was a success. Secondly, the 1870 Olympic Games was the first modern international Olympic Games to be held in a stadium. The only country in the world to have an athletics stadium in the 19th Century was Greece. I'll say that again for the hard of hearing. The only country in the world to have a bonafide, refurbished ancient Olympic Games stadium in the 19th Century was Greece. Greece was the first country in the world to host a bonafide Olympic Games in a stadium in the 19th Century. And guess what? Greece was also the second and the third country in the world to host a bonafide Olympic Games in a stadium. What is even more interesting is that there was no stadium at the Paris 1900 side-show that was called an Olympic Games. To be be perfectly honest, if the International Olympic Committee did not recognise them as Olympic Games they would not be worthy of the name by anybody elses standards. Then ofcourse they build a temporary stadium for St Louis in 1904. And guess what? The first Olympic Games to have a proper bonafide Olympic stadium in the 20th Century once again was Greece at Athens in 1906. Is that so hard to accept. Does it hurt the pride of the rest of the world to accept that. That small country called Greece had the first modern international Olympic Games and it had the first bonafide purpose-built Olympic stadium. Please elaborate what success or failure means when you use those words. When David C. Young uses them he is referring to the fact that the Olympiad was not maintained. He is not saying that the Games themselves were not a success. Don't take quotations out of context. Don't quote opinions. Surely, that is common sense. Also, take a closer look at this: 1859, 1870, 1875, 1896, 1906, 2004 Years in which the Olympic Games were hosted in Athens. Does that make every other city that has hosted the Olympic Games a failure? Evangelos Zappas firmly planted the foundations, the roots, of the modern Olympic Games and those that say otherwise are in denial. That's not an opinion. That is a fact. 2008 Olympic TemplateAs a leading editor at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Olympics, you should be aware that I think a rash template deletion decision is being made at Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2008_August_18#Template:Nations_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics. I have attempted to created the sidebar template Template:Nations at the 2008 Summer Olympics to complement Template:NOCin2008SummerOlympics as a navigational aid for some of the larger countries. Although the links are the same it is not redundant because it greatly improves the experience for the reader who wants to quickly visit different countries. When I visit a page like United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics, I often want to jump to another page and I don't think I am the only reader who would like to do so. Currently, the reader has to scroll down for pages and pages in hopes that the proper template is at the bottom. It would help the reader if there were a sidebar navbox like the one I created. It is not uncommon for a sidebar to include only duplicate links of a template at the bottom (See Barack Obama, which has a sidebar template that includes only redundant links).--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:21, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I B Wright – what's up with that guy?Hi. After a rather unpleasant, grueling experience with I B Wright (and what currently seems to be his alter ego, 86.182.66.217) on my talk page and elsewhere, I decided to take a look at the history of his talk page and and wasn't too surprised to find that he clashed with many other users in the past, you among them. And while I think it was wrong of some of you to threaten him with being blocked (for tendentious editing, personal attacks, harassment or whatever), he's really damaging Wikipedia, putting falsehoods in article after article (I'm still not sure as to why he does what he does: Is he really serious, or is this all some kind of a very bad joke? Or maybe he's got some, um, "other issues" to deal with?). Isn't there anything that can be done short of revoking his editing rights (which already had been tried once before)? Couldn't it be arranged that his changes must be approved by someone higher up before they are applied? Oh, well, that's probably not feasible, still, it's comforting to see that I'm not the only one who's had a close encounter of the third kind with this unnerving guy... Thanks! By the way, did you ever read the self-description on his user page?
It doesn't get much more disconnected from reality than that. Regards – ὁ οἶστρος (talk) 21:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC) The Wikipedia Signpost: 7 June 2010

16TeamBracket-Compact-NoSeeds-Byes Bracket (template)Question about brackets, Jonel: Can you tell me if there is a way to add an additional game to a bracket? The West Coast Conference and the MAC will have a different format for their basketball tournaments for the 2011-12 college basketball season. With the addition of a ninth school, the WCC has changed its tournament format to a five-day tournament with an opening round between the #8 and #9 seed, here's a sample 2012 bracket: 2012 bracket after that everything else is the same. Here's the 2011 bracket. I'm asking, since you created the bracket template the WCC used. Thanks, Bearcats fan (talk) 20:30, October 28, 2011 (UTC) The Signpost: 31 October 2011

Hello, Jonel, and thank you for your contributions! This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Wrestling at the 1924 Summer Olympics – Men's Greco-Roman heavyweight, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Wrestling at the 1924 Summer Olympics – Men's Greco-Roman heavyweight. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history. It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 04:37, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

USA vs Japan deletionI had actually considered deleting the section myself after my latest edit as I started thinking more about it. I was hesitant though only because I felt it may be notable in light of the controversy in the simifinal. Similar plays called opposite ways, but both calls favoring the US. I don't disagree with the deletion, but did you consider this aspect of its notability? --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 22:30, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic GamesHi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:41, 17 August 2012 (UTC) Disambiguation link notification for August 19Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Here's a question that you probably won't remember the answer two after six years, but I figured I'd ask anyways. When you created the fencing section for Bohemia at the 1908 Summer Olympics, you added a line for a competitor named František Šourek-Tuček but, in the sources that you used, he's only listed as "F. Tuček". I'm wondering where you got the full name, or if that he was accidentally mixed up with František Soucek the athlete? There's a Wikipedia page using his full name now, but that user created it based off of the entry at Bohemia at the 1908 Summer Olympics and the source used for the article, Sports Reference, still only has F. Tuček. Wondering if you can shed any light on this. Canadian Paul 13:53, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
