Are there any navigators who are not explorers?

It seems to me that basically everyone in the navigator catehory is in the explorer category. I think we should either make navigators a sub-cat of rlexplorers, or declare them overlap categories and basically limit the explorers Category to land based explorers. I would think that there are, yes. For instance, Amelia Erhardt was a navigator, but didn't really explore anything. An explorer is someone who investigates new places or tries to, a navigator might just be looking for better or new ways to get to places that are already known? Like Charles Lindbergh? My 2c. Neither of those people are in the navigators category. They are in the aviators category. I am thinking explorers and navigators overlap so much that we should exclude all navigators from the explorers category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:23, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Military personnel category name

I just came across the article on Juan Abalos de Mendoza. He is in the category Spanish muilitary personnel, even though he was a resident of the Viceroyalty of Peru his whole life. I am thinking we should rename military personnel categories to be Personnel of the Spanish military, Personnel of the German military, etc., to make it clear that the nationalities are modifying military, and that we include people in them based on the military they were a part of. Specifically we do not want a Spanish national who only served in the French Army to be in Spanish military personnel, only in French Military personnel, so we should name it Personnel of the French Military.John Pack Lambert (talk) 15:37, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Circa misunderstanding

Hi John,

Hope you're doing well. I see recently you've been ploughing through various circa births, changing their categories from specific years back to decades. Unfortunately, in the case of articles I have produced, this is a mistake. I thought circa meant, we know the year (which is often referenced in the article) but not the months or day. Unfortunately therefore I will need to change back a lot of your edits (while removing the 'circa' as well). Are you sure in all these cases we know the year? I have seen lots of cases where the source says circa and our article has dropped that. Also lots of cases where different sources proclaim different years. We should not be more precise than we can be accurate. On tge other hand History of Parliament online, which is used in almost half of 16th-century birth articles often has text from which an approximare month of birth could be determined, but for some reason most of the time our articles only give the year.John Pack Lambert (talk) 02:04, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Yes, just as a layman stalker, I always though that "circa 1452" meant like "somewhere around that time, maybe 1450 or 1460 even possibly 13xx, something like that. Herostratus (talk) 04:39, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
circa means "around" or "about". It could mean "1451 or 1452" if we have something that tells us the person was 10 in 1462, but that is actually the case just saying "1451 or 1452" is better.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:40, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
