DYK processHi, John. Right now you just sit tight and wait for a prep builder to promote your hook to the prep area. Keep Template:Did you know nominations/Prusa i3 on your watchlist so you'll know when it's been promoted. After that, watchlist T:DYKQ so you can see the prep set being promoted to the queue. At the top of T:DYKQ is the calendar of when each queue appears; based on your time zone, that's how you'll know when it's scheduled. The DYK bot will post a notification on your talk page and on the article talk page when the hook appears on the main page. There's not much you can do about having the hook appear in the lead image slot; that's up to the promoter. But it's a strong image, so there's a good chance it will appear as the lead image. Best, Yoninah (talk) 16:12, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
DYK for Prusa i3On 8 July 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Prusa i3, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the most used 3D printer in the world (pictured) can partially self-replicate? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Prusa i3. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Prusa i3), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. NotificationsIf you want to say "Thanks very much Carl Fredrik", and ping them at the same time, just use the {{user}} template - shortcut is {{u}} - like this: The {{ping}} template adds @ and : and you have to show a different text like this: Wonderful, thanks RexxS. --John Cummings (talk) 20:46, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
Hi Paulo Kiefe, glad you like it, please do let me know if I missed anything out or got anything wrong, I want to add some photos of failed prints if you have any? --John Cummings (talk) 09:04, 30 July 2016 (UTC) This Month in GLAM: July 2016

Unesco Art CollectionHi John, I stumbled upon Unesco's art collection website and would be interested in adding all the (notable) works to Wikidata. The website doesn't mention unique inventory numbers for the artworks though, and that's more or less a requisite on Wikidata (or at least we prefer to include those). Would it in any way be possible for you to ask around at Unesco who takes care of registration of these works, and whether it would be possible to obtain a data export that does contain inventory numbers? Also, this might be interesting for a small image donation at some point (of the public domain works) - but that has less priority IMO. Thanks! Spinster (talk) 12:59, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
Invitation to "target countries" discussionHello, John Cummings! Since you attended the Global South meeting at Wikimania 2016, we're inviting you to a discussion on "target countries". You can help the product team at the Wikimedia Foundation create a new list of countries and metrics to replace the "global south" concept in our process with something more relevant. Interested? Learn more about this discussion and share your perspective. (This message is available in more languages.) Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 00:14, 29 October 2016 (UTC) This Month in GLAM: October 2016

UNESCO report on AbkhaziaHello, John Cummings. I hope this isn't a duplicate request; I didn't see any sign that someone had already contacted you. An editor's looking for the Report on the Cultural heritage assessment mission to Abkhazia, Georgia, 10-17 June 1997 to work on articles about Abkhazia and hasn't been able to gain access to it. The discussion is at WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. Please help. Thanks. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 07:16, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
An update from the Sustainability InitiativeHi, John Cummings! Thank you again for supporting the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 200 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability. What's new? We are writing you this message because there is great news: The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has finally passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Also, we have created a cool logo and found a nice name for the project which you can see on the right :-) What's next? Currently, we are working with Wikimedia Foundation staff to make sustainability a key priority for the selection of a new location for Wikimedia servers in Singapore. Also, we have presented the Wikimedia Foundation with a green energy roadmap to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019. Please help! Let's keep this project moving forward – and there are several ways in which you can help:

I'm looking for a photo of Nigerian president Obasanjo presenting a replica of a mask to UNESCO director Matsuura in 2005, for what I imagine was "Africa Day" (May 25, 2005). See the example here: [1]. I could only find a photo of the mask in the Mediabank. Any ideas on whether there is a photo like this in the archives and whether they'll share it? czar 04:23, 26 February 2017 (UTC) (reposted from Commons)
Guidelines in your roleOur discussion on Consequences of Brexit for science got shut down prematurely and I'm not eager to make it formal by taking it to an official request. I am, however, interested in what guidelines you are given / you created in your role as a Wikimedian in Residence with regards to declaring potential conflicts of interest. The current guidelines don't really cover such a scenario. I see two facets: what the WinR advises people to do, and what editing he/she personally does. The example of Susan S comes up, of course, as it's the only one that I have. I'm not asking you to answer the following questions, but they are potential problems... Is she being paid by her employer to edit Wikipedia or is she doing it in her free time? Is she asking for changes to be made that should come about by editor consensus? Are you making changes for her that should come about by editor consensus? Is she adding things that are largely about her employer or its publications? (On the last, an article was created about a publication that she was heavily involved in.) If the current CoI guidelines don't cover these things well, perhaps you need to request or create some new ones, or do you have separate guidelines already? My best guess is that you're in a grey area that needs to be clarified; doing so would help reduce the quantity and intensity of clashes that are occurring, as well as helping with editor retention, a factor you highlighted. Wikimedian in Residence BoF at Wikimania 2017Hello! My name is David Alves (User:Horadrim~usurped), and I'm an Wikipedian in Residence at RIDC NeuroMat (User:Horadrim). I've reach your contact through the Wikimedian in residence page in Outreach. As you may know, Wikimania 2017 is coming! I am here because, as a fellow WiR, I believe this would be a great opportunity for us to share experiences, discuss difficulties and exchange solutions, creating a community among us capable of supporting in other projects that would benefit from residents. In that sense, I have submitted a proposal of a Birds of a Feather activity to Wikimania that you can check out here. I hope to count with your support in this project and would like to invite you to join us if you participate in Wikimania. In case of any doubts, please feel free to contact me, either in my talk pages or by e-mail at david.alvesoutlook.com. Thank you very much! Horadrim~usurped (talk) 00:33, 13 April 2017 (UTC) |
