Hi John, thanks for reverting the edits by this user on my user page, however I am curious as to how this sock got round my protection on my user page. Only auto confirmed editors are supposed to edit the page. It doesn't even look like he had 50 edits (although I'm not too sure to be honest). Weird. Thanks for your work! @Class455: it only needs ten edits to be autoconfirmed, and this long-term socker has evidently decided it's worth the trouble. There is a new protection level, Extended confirmed protection, which is now allowed to be used if semi-protection has proved ineffective. Would you like me to apply that to your user page? Please help me rename my user name

Hello John,

Could you please help me rename my user name as you have mentioned in your message that it violates Wikipedia policies as it shows the Company name. I am new to Wikipedia and it's confusing as I am not getting any option to rename the user name. Also now, I see that user techtw does not exist.

The way to submit your draft for review is to click the blue button that says "Submit your draft for review!"
I doubt whether the single independent reference is enough for notability. I would advise removing the image of Jha with his sisters - they are not relevant to the article, and they make it look like a family Facebook page rather than an encyclopedia article. @RiteshRanjan: no, I do not want to review your age, I have many other things to do, and the reviewers will get to it soon.
You have not yet made any paid editing declaration. See this FAQ, the section "How should I disclose paid contributions in my user page?" This is very important: undisclosed paid editing accounts are blocked.
It is helpful to "sign" your comments on talk pages by ending them with a group of four "tilde" characters ~~~~, which the system will turn into a "signature" of your username and the time and date, like this: JohnCD (talk) 14:28, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

@Wgolf: :it is the same guy, but the article is now OK. What I deleted as a hoax was a one-liner with no references that didn't check out with the team's website. Then in this conversation I was told that he is a real player, but not yet then notable. However he is now playing for a professional first team and passes NFOOTY. Spshu is doing disruptive editing to Office Christmas Party Page. I was wondering if you could block this user due to the issue and add back Reliance Entertainment. The place to report vandalism is WP:AIV, but I don't see vandalism here - there seems to be disagreement about what production companies to list, and Spshu is quite right to ask for reliable sources - see WP:Verifiability. IMDb by itself is not reliable, because anyone can edit it. This sort of disagreement should be resolved by discussion on the talk pages, not by edit warring back and forth. I have a complaint regarding the deletion of my article. It was stated that the article was deleted by it was "obviously invented by the creator of the article" but aren't all religions invented by someone? The apes dont climb down from the trees knowing about religion. Someone had to set down the beliefs of every religion created on this planet. @Nianiad: yes, they probably are all invented by someone, but Wikipedia is not a place for people to write about their own inventions. That's not an encyclopedia's job. What we do is summarise what has already been published about a subject in reliable sources. One of our fundamental policies is Wikipedia:No original research, which includes:

"If no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article about it. If you discover something new, Wikipedia is not the place to announce such a discovery."

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ryan Fitzgerald (ice hockey) This page was deleted in July as a result of failing WP:NHOCKEY and WP:GNG, however I was looking and realized that he does indeed meet the requirements as justified by: "Achieved preeminent honors in a lower minor or major junior league (all-time top ten career scorer or First Team All-Star), or in an NCAA Division I collegiate hockey league (all-time top ten career scorer or First or Second Team All-American)." IQ Option official website blacklisted by mistake

Hello, John! First of all, I'd like to thank you for the link you posted on my talk page. The thing is I'm trying to add some links to the article on IQ Option (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_Option) and I can't because it's blacklisted. I searched for the domain (iqoption.com) in all blacklists and managed to find only \biqoption\.com here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Spam_blacklist. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi JohnCD.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

New Page Review needs your help

Hi JohnCD,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Well, my own assumption is that the whole point to the Gordian Knot is that it was a test of what tool to use, that you won't create an empire by your skill with ropes, because empires were always created with the sword, which is what Alexander used. @Drstevejones: I am sorry that Wikipedia does not make it clearer to new users that it is not the sort of social-networking site where people write about themselves. That is strongly discouraged (see Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography). Also, there is a Wikipedia:Verifiability policy which requires reliable, published sources for what is added - the point of published being that readers should, in principle, be able to check on what they find here.

Well, it's a bit of a technical violation, but it's generally not a good idea to have multiple copies floating around, in case they get edited in parallel. I do think it's desirable to explain the reason to the copier, who may well be puzzled by a simple copyvio notice, and I have done that for this one. JohnCD (talk) 20:38, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Creating multiple copies happens in several ways. Occasionally enthusiastic inexperienced editors create several copies of the same article with different titles because they don't know how redirects work and don't realize that multiple copies will get out of sync. In that case the answer is of course to replace all of the non-primary pages with redirects and to explain to the enthusiastic inexperienced editor. Creating multiple copies of drafts in draft space is relatively common for at least two reasons. The first is good-faith confusion, in which an editor thinks that, when their draft is declined, they have to enter it all over again to resubmit it. This is well-meaning, but it really mucks up the job of reviewing. The second is gaming the system, in which an author knowingly creates multiple copies, either in draft space or in article space , or sometimes in Wikipedia space because they don't know what Wikipedia space is, or in one case today in portal space. However, none of those are actual rip-offs. In this case, it was an actual copy-and-paste from main space into draft space. That's only copyright infringement because of the highly technical way that we have defined copyright, but it is plagiarism, and that is reason enough. What also happens occasionally is an editor writing and submitting a draft that is already in article space. What also happens occasionally is two (or three) different editors independently creating drafts on the same topic. That gets detected when the reviewer tries to move the draft into draft space with the proper title and it hits the existing draft, and then the reviewer has to ask the two authors if they can coordinate with each other. Peerless Network

Hi JohnCD - you deleted the page I created Peerless Network - although it doesn't appear that you left a reason why on the deletion page. I'm assuming that you don't believe that it qualifies as "notable" although at this point, I've no idea how to make it more so, as I've provided ALL the links that I can to document the contribution that this company has made to the telecommunications space - in terms of the services they provide and the patents that they've been awarded. So as my last ditch effort to prove "notability" I'll describe Peerless' contributions here to you - in the hopes that you'll be convinced to "approve" the article as a permanent addition to Wikipedia. Peerless Network provides a service that is an alternative to the traditional ILEC business model in that it allows most telecommunications providers to interconnect amongst each other and therefore significantly reducing costs. This process and their switch design (for which they received a patent) made this new business model possible, and is a major contribution to why the majority of Americans and US businesses now enjoy significantly reduced telecommunications rates. And then Peerless invented a process (for which they they also received a patent) that allows a wireless call to move seamlessly between wifi connections and cellular connections - which again, makes the process of placing a wireless phone call significantly less expensive, as well as improving quality and opening up a host of new consumer and business services. Are there a ton of articles about these technologies? - Nope - it is the underlying mechanism that allows services to be offered (by all major carriers), and is not the "marketed" service themselves - and thus, not anything that anyone really wants to write about. BUT without these technologies, the telecommunications industry would not have progressed to its current state. I'll ask you to reconsider your deletion - on the grounds that Peerless Network has made significant contributions to the US telecommunications industry - and thus is notable for its contributions and achievements - documented via the receipt of many patents. @Jlk0221: the page is not deleted - as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peerless Network, Inc. it was moved to the Draft space at Draft:Peerless Network where you can work on it. The admin who closed the discussion and moved it left a note on your talk page to tell you where it is. All that I deleted was an orphaned redirect left behind at Peerless Network, Inc. when you moved the page to a title without "Inc". I will give some advice on your talk page in a day or so. What sort of references: anything that discusses the company in some depth, probably articles in newspapers or trade press, not press releases, see WP:Identifying reliable sources. About the page you deleted called Haim Dotan. A Hebrew Wikipedia article about Haim Dotan was written by the journalist Michael Yacovson 5 years ago. Haim Dotan is now known and cited in news organizations worldwide as the designer of the world's longest and highest glass pedestrian bridge in ZhangjiaJie, China. I, an employee of Haim Dotan Architects, thought it fitting that an article should be written in the English Wikipedia in addition to the Hebrew one.

Is this enough explaination to allow this article? If not, what are the rules around who can post an article?

HI I understand that my students created a page on my work prior to my departure from Penn State. I'm now the Dean at the University of Idaho College of Education. I'm thinking it may make sense to reconsider this deletion based on new information (my new position, I have around 250 publications, and a high level on google scholar, and a TED talk, global, that has around 900K views, serving as Editor in Chief of the e-Learn magazine published by the Association of Communication Machinery. Am I allowed to create the article myself? I deleted the article after a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alison A. Carr-Chellman. That was nearly three years ago, so things may well have changed.
Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, but not forbidden. Read WP:Autobiography, noting in particular that any article will not "belong" to you - others can and probably will edit it. Then, if you want to go ahead, read:
It is advisable to register an account, which will make communication easier. Don't post an article directly, but use WP:Articles for creation to make a draft, which you can send for review by an experienced user, who will either accept it or give you feedback. It will probably be more difficult than you expect. Understand that an encyclopedia article is not the same as a CV; it is not the story you want to tell the world but what an uninvolved author, surveying the published sources, would consider a general encyclopedia reader would be interested to read. If you copy from existing sites a formal copyright release from the actual copyright owner would be required, but better to write in your own words. There is good advice from a user very experienced with academic biographies at User talk:DGG/Archive 0.5#Academic articles, what I think is important - just that section, not the whole archive. Iranian vandal?

Hey John! See Eilya Monfared (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), and the fact that it was later given a disambuated page title. This seems very much like our good old JR-vandal friend from Iran (who hasn't quacked so much recently here, just once or twice on Wikidata). Other editing from the account is incredibly similar; Iranian singers and the like (not to mention markup, links or even origin). Definitely not notable, if the "musician" exists at all indeed. Do you think it's worth making a case at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/جواد رمضانی شوراب again? Sorry to bother you and take up your time, the account and all the rest just seems a bit fishy to me. Jared Preston (talk) 16:27, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

I don't really see it, apart from a shared interest in Iranian singers - this user has been around for a year and seems to be editing constructively, and his subjects seem to be real, though I'm not sure about their notability.
