Jfire, on Shane Ellison article you have placed "citations needed" flag without flagging any specific words, sentences or phrases which would require citations. Well, IMO it is good enough for GA (in fact it was once a reasonable FA candidate but was not promoted because of a technicality, as the user who had uploaded several pictures has not tagged them under a GFDL-compliant license and did not respond to inquiries). If you look into the talk page, you'll see that the reason for moving it away from the GA list was a similar technicality, and a ridiculous misinterpretation of GA criteria, IMO . Unfortunately there does not seem to be much discussion, and to be honest, one would not expect overly much for such a fringe subject. I'd be delighted to see that article brought into the limelight, but, having written perhaps three thirds of it, I feel that I'm a little too partial to suggest it myself. Please do not delete things too quickly

right then. i have studied these and i believe my article met the criteria. not everything on Wikipedia is a totally 100% verifiable, if you deny that you are kidding yourself. i believe it is fairly notable, more so than many things on this site,and how would one judge that anyway? have you never been greeted with the Manhug? it would surprise me if you have not been. as for verifiability, you can see it on the street, often when two guys meet, such as after a long separation, or if they are family, something along the lines of a Manhug is exchanged. perhaps the name is not entirely "politically correct" but if that was your only problem with it there should have been no argument. as for reliable sources, i must go again to common sense. have you never been greeted this way? or seen hundreds of others greet each other with the Manhug? i sincerely doubt it. there is no concrete evidence that Homer existed, and yet you allow a Wikipedia article on him. so i must ask: why did you delete this page? if you doubt the existence of the Manhug go try it on someone and they will inevitably return it without missing a beat. i see from your talk page that you are into deleting things. i also enjoy the fact that you not only marked my article, but marked it for immediate deletion, therby giving it no fair chance. i find this unsporting.

i do apologize for my manner, it shall not happen again.

P.S. since i believe that the manhug was a ligitimate article perhaps i shall re-create it. thank you for the advice!

Tim De Groot

Deletion of Tim De Groot, artist and musician from Grand Rapids, MI I believe that you are in error of recommending this man for deletion, although not nationally known, in the GR area he is quite well known. He is personal friends with no less than three of the individuals who are also listed under the same heading; Mark Hekman, Paul Collins and Richard DeVos. Incidentally, Tim attended the Kendall School of Art and Design with Maynard James Keenan, yet Maynard is listed under Grand Rapids; and Maynard to this day doesn't acknowledge ever being from Grand Rapids. To keep in the tradition that Wikipedia is supposed to be about, research. Those researching Grand Rapids ought to know about Tim De Groot. With regards to simply redirecting as an alternative to AfD'ing an article: you can always do that, but of course someone else might revert it, and then you've got a dispute that needs to be resolved somehow. Annie Leonard

I see you have removed the hangon tag from Annie Leonard. You indicated this as no one nominated it for deletion. Perhaps you didn't see where it was deleted twice today, within mere minutes of creating and in the middle of editing the article? Notability guideline on Wikipedia. " It is a generally accepted standard that all editors should follow. However, it is not set in stone and should be treated with common sense and the occasional exception. When editing this page, ensure that your revision reflects consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page.". The article has been deleted. It was about an open educational documentary. It is a pity it has been deleted. Joseph Giardina

Hello JFire... I don't know who you are, you do not know who I am, but it seems you know nothing about Joseph Giardina, Maria Callas and dozen of other world famous singers... ALT/STOP!! Since someone else before you (or maybe it had been you in disguise!...:-)...) had tagged Joseph Giardina's biography saying it needed references/citations, I wasted some of my time and put a couple, including the one of Salem College... where he is mentioned as one of the most famous vocal trainers living in Italy... I also put some links to rare photos of Joseph Giardina... just to show what this little GREAT man looks like... You know, there are people who, in their field, are famous all other the world, but you will not find one single link with their name and surname on the world wide web... My father for example set up companies that deal with 60% of the total world production in that field, with offices and warehouses in Taiwan, Moscow, South Africa, Europe etc. and you won't find any reference to him on one single page of the WWW world wide web. I hope that someone doesn't tag the Rolls Royce page saying it needs citations or that it seems to be noticeable but has no references... PS: I live in Rome, where Joseph Giardina lives... and I obviously know him "in carne e ossa" (personally), as a human being and as master and director of choirs I have been in for years. I guess you are referring to this. You're right that I don't have the slightest knowledge of Joseph Giardina, which is why I tagged the article as needing attention from an expert, and I well aware that not all notable persons have information available online, which is why I wrote in the edit summary "seems to be notable, but I can't find any RS". RS stands for reliable sources. Note that personal knowledge is not a reliable source according to Wikipedia's definition of the term. Jfire (talk) 16:04, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Articles for deletion/List of claims made by Zeitgeist, the Movie

• I just created this page a week ago Friday (Jan 25) and so far I have been the only editor of this page, but I would like to avoid having it deleted in the hope that other editors will collaborate on it with me.

• I want to let you know that many things have changed regarding this article since you voted to have it deleted.

• I have fully read and responded to every Wikipedia guideline that I have been referred to,
• I have modified my plans for the article and changed the way I view the subject in order to fit within those guidelines,
• I have explained my position and my goals in detail on the AfD for the page,
• and I have completely blanked the talk page of the article since most of the concerns about guidelines involved the talk page and not the actual article.

• I am sure you will find that I have made a great effort to contribute to the usefulness and quality of Wikipedia, and that my actions are motivated by a desire to improve Wikipedia and to keep Wikipedia neutral.

• I believe that the only guidelines my article can still be accused of violating are those concerning "notability" and "lists of random facts" and being that this is such a young article, I urge you to revisit the article, the AfD for the article, as well as the article's talk page, and make sure that you still feel that the article needs to be deleted right now.

• Thank-you for your time, and I appreciate your efforts in keeping Wikipedia clutter-free!

Reference Consolidation

Hi! Do you have a tutorial somewhere on the way you consolidated the refs for Curtis Harris? It looks so much cleaner, but I'm not sure I follow exactly. I use either the downloadable "Wikicite" (which generates somewhat cleaner citations in that it does the 1 abc for multiple citations to the same reference) or this tool (which makes a mess!) to do my citations since I haven't memorised the codes yet. The basic idea is that you can add name="name" to all the <ref> tags that reference the same source. Then the actual contents of all but the first named tag will be ignored (so you just use <ref name="name"/> for the rest of them). Wikipedia:Footnotes has all the details. I haven't used Wikicite or the other tool, but I think they can probably be used independently of reference consolidation. You would use the tool to generate the first instance of the citation, then give it a name and use the <ref name="name"/> form thereafter. Jfire (talk) 06:03, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Intrigue

Carlo Suarez wrote THE CYPHER OF GENESIS and explained how the Aleph-Tav(in which Torah is embodied) were Hieroglyphs, not mystical writings. He termed the writing system "cabala." Why is it considered "inappropriate" to add a page that says this? I suspect a cabal to hide the Hieroglyphic nature of Torah. The New Testament describes the effort to keep Torah esoteric. "Why are you speaking of these things and you are not yet 50"(Pharisees to Jesus) I don't feel that you are conscious of the cabal and being used. Please consider referring me to one of my sentences found incomprehensible. Please let me know how you came to be credited with the deletion and warning. How can I get a page to word-wrap? I'll add it to "Help" and "Formatting." Hi there. I saw you prodded Baron von Lemon. Whilst I agree that this is a minor character from long back who probably doesn't meet the notability guidelines, I tend to think that this kind of article - about the obscure stuff - is part of what makes Wikipedia great. It's not promoting anybody, it's not self-aggrandisement, and somebody might just find it useful or interesting. Can I ask you to reconsider? If not, can I get you to take it to AfD? Sure, it's a proposed deletion, so anybody can contest it. I went ahead and removed the notice. Note however that many editors, myself included, feel that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an indiscriminate collection of information. We cover what other third parties have found notable and chosen to write about, and just because we don't have an article on something obscure doesn't mean that information is inaccessible or cannot be covered elsewhere. I can see your point, that it's a relatively innocuous article, and I'll let someone else take it to AfD if they desire, but I anticipate that's where it will eventually end up. Notice of temporary injunction

Hi Jfire, I noticed you redirected an article about a television character[1] (and I personally think that article was in very poor shape), but I am letting you know that there is currently a temporary injunction that applies to all editors[2] while this arbitration case is open. The injunction was enacted on February 3, 2008 and it reads:

"For the duration of this case, no editor shall redirect or delete any currently existing article regarding a television series episode or character; nor un-redirect or un-delete any currently redirected or deleted article on such a topic, nor apply or remove a tag related to notability to such an article. Administrators are authorized to revert such changes on sight, and to block any editors that persist in making them after being warned of this injunction."

Ah, right, I think I had heard about the injunction, but it slipped my mind at the time. In this case, it seems to be an obviously uncontroversial redirect as the article was a duplicate of Doremi Harukaze, which is already a redirect. But I can see that the injunction makes no allowance for even the most uncontroversial actions, and much as I disagree with it, I'll take care not to redirect further articles. Just a friendly note on the prod for Tim Kinsella that you contested with an edit summary of "member of notable bands is notable per WP:MUSIC". What WP:MUSIC actually says is "Members of notable bands are not given individual articles unless they have demonstrated notability for activity independent of the band."--Fabrictramp (talk) 14:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

If you are familiar with Web 2.0 can you take a look at these articles that I started in my sandboxs User_talk:Igorberger/21-november-2007-01-january-2008#SEO_Consultants. From a quick look, it seems like those articles have some fairly serious problems in terms of notability and promotional tone. Hi, Jfire, i have a question about Code momentum, (a term i was not aware about until you prodded it), its tagged Neologism, well the article itself is from 2003, hundreds of people must have been reading it and now 5 years later its not notable ? Let me express my opinion that i would like to find articles in this encyclopedia about what is not common used, he ! i learned something today about something not so common, so turning it around to delete articles with the argument, not common used is very strange, and last, the article is referenced, so please remove the prod from the article. Please familarize yourself with that guideline, and if you still feel the article should be kept, feel free to remove the prod. Hi Jfire, i have been reading the WP:Avoid neologisms, are words and terms that have recently been coined, generally do not appear in any dictionary, but may be used widely or within certain communities. The article is from 2003, not recently coined, do not appear in a common dictionary, but maybe in a good IT dictionary, may be used widely or within certain communities, which would be the PERL programmers community, maybe 2.000.000 people. now for me, i like articles from dictionaries i don't posses, and about terms and issues in communities i didn't join, the last point the wiki external link, that was a good point, the reference is on CPAN, [4][5] home of Perl, and on savannah, I think the best option is to CAT it into the perl categorie as well,. Well, they're two different things. One is a suburban area, the other is a political district. According to Withington, the suburban area consists roughly of the wards of Withington and Old Moat. It does not appear to me that either of these latter articles have been merged to Withington. Category:Manchester City Council Wards contains articles about 26 wards. If you feel that these articles cannot stand alone, you should probably discuss it with Wikipedia:WikiProject Greater Manchester. A delete is not a likely outcome from an AfD per WP:GEOG. Well, first of all, are you Mohsin, or closely related to him? If so, you would appear to have a conflict of interest, and my advice would be to avoid editing this article altogether. The reasons we discourage editors from editing articles on subjects which they are intimately related to is that it frequently gives rise to other problems such as those this article is tagged for. As for the other specific issues that are tagged, they seem basically accurate at this time. Being the Consul General is a claim of notability, but it should be backed up with references to significant coverage in reliable sources -- it's not clear that any of the external links qualify (admittedly I only looked at them briefly). The orphan tag is definitely appropriate as no other article pages link to Mohsin Razi -- only user pages and spam reports. Jfire (talk) 22:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Shawn Stuckey

I noticed that you reverted my proposed deletion of Shawn Stuckey with the reasoning that having been an NFL player was sufficient reason to be notable--I disagree. For the following reasons I still argue and move to delete such entry:

According to notability standards, independent secondary sources provide the most objective evidence of notability. This article, even after multiple suggestions, still does not use a substantial number of entries that are secondary. A majority, more than 80% from the subjects own website. Which delves into "Independent of the subject" criteria excludes works produced by those affiliated with the subject including (but not limited to): self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, autobiographies, press releases.

Having played in the NFL for one (1) year does not in itself qualify for notability. Given that the subject of this entry might have been notable when he broke an NFL record his rookie year, the fact of the matter is that the subject does not meet notability standards. Wikipedians pride ourselves in not becoming a Who's Who encyclopedia.

Notability is not static. I do agree that the subject's story is interesting and maybe in the future an entry should be written once notability standards are met. In the meantime, this entry must be deleted. Thank you. User: Creator1981

Hi Creator, thanks for the note. My objection to deletion is based on the guidelines at WP:ATHLETE which state that "people who have competed at the fully professional level of a sport" are generally notable. The same guideline does say that "meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included" but I can tell you from experience here that articles about fully professional athletes are almost invariably kept at WP:AFD, because playing professionally is a highly reliable indicator that significant coverage in secondary sources is available. Nevertheless, you are free to continue to advocate the deletion of the article, though it must now be done through the WP:AFD process; once a proposed deletion has been contested, it should not be restored. Hi MrsSnoozyTurtle. I monitor proposed deletions (via User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary) and AfDs and challenge nominations where I believe the rationale is contrary to consensus interpretations of relevant policies and guidelines such as WP:N and WP:DEL. It is true that I find myself challenging your nominations somewhat regularly, but that's not stalking, it's because (in my opinion) your interpretation of policies often differs from community consensus, as evidenced by the keep outcomes in AfDs such as those you've cited above. That's fine; Wikipedia's processes are designed to encompass differences of opinion, but it does mean that your nominations may receive scrutiny and challenges from other editors. In the end, I'm sure we all are just trying to build the best enyclopedia we can, and if my actions gave any other impression I apologize. Best, Jfire (talk) 02:44, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Crime in Uganda

I do not fault you in removing the prod. That's totally fair. That said... this article is total crap. It doesn't match the other "Crime in X" articles. Terribly written by a user with an axe to grind. It needs a full rewrite, but I'm not the guy to do it. But I can do what I can to help the process along. Yes, I see your point about the article's quality. It might help you in future proposed deletions of this sort to cite something like WP:TNT instead of scope and notability. If that had been the rationale, I might not have contested the prod. But the examples for other countries show that Wikipedia could have an article that satisfies WP:N, etc., so "NN topic that is hugely too broad" isn't a very convincing rationale. I don't seem to get them to a deletion discussion but it's on my "to-do" list for several of these articles. I don't see many editor picking up on articles that were de-PROD'd to take them to the next step so I just wanted to say thank you even if it turns out that this article becomes better sourced and is Kept. The conclusion from the first time the article was nominated was that it doesn't meet WP:GNG, and I find no significant changes since 2012, so presumably WP:GNG is a good reason this time as well.
