Mike Harding

When you moved Mike Harding (New Zealand) to Mike Harding (folk musician) I can only assume you did not notice that this title fails to clearly disambiguate him from Mike Harding, whose original career was also as a folk musician? Kevan Gosper, and avoiding edit wars

I saw from the "recent changes" page that you reverted a paragraph in Kevan Gosper about his daughter being made the first Australian torchbearer for the 2000 Olympics. The original paragraph was very unprofessional, but it was sourced and, I feel, relevant. The talk page also has an edit from 2008 saying "Put in something about how his daughter got special treatment in the Sydney Olympics torch relay." I therefore rewrote it to a hopefully better standard, but since I don't have much experience editing, I thought I should notify you to avoid an edit war. My proposed paragraph below:

In May 2000, Gosper was criticized after his daughter Sophie was made the first Australian torchbearer in a late change over the previously selected Greek-Australian Yianna Souleles. At age 11, Sophie Gosper was too young by one year to carry the torch in Australia, but was invited by the Hellenic Olympic Committee to be the second carrier of the Olympic flame in Greece.[1] Gosper apologized days later due to public outrage, though he insisted he was not involved in the decision.[2]

Mate you do understand this is an encyclopedia and not a tool for PR to use to improve ones image. This means that everyone's past, irrelevant of age, is to be included in articles. If age of ofensice is an issue, how about you go and take out Bill Clinton's affair cos its now old and irrelevant. If the individual doesn't like it, they should not have taken the action in the first place. Don't behave inappropriately and it wont end in your biography. I think it may have finally calmed down, but out of the blue, I got steamrolled by an escalating dispute where for a good portion requests for discussion were ignored (despite repeated blanking of content without real explanation), and then when communication did happen, it was pretty unpleasant (last night I had trouble sleeping because of it, and was on the verge of quitting altogether). And while some of that continued today, which has caused all progress to halt over the last two and a half days, it seems this afternoon (after I contacted you) some emotional distance was obtained and it looks like the beginnings of a more constructive tone have developed. So thankfully it may have self-resolved (for a while there I didn’t think anything was going to change its ugly course) - I was going to ask if you could give a TPO to me on it.
But, since it seems I don’t seem to have to now, if you’ve got the spare time, could you take a read of Nursing Service Cross? I like the opinion of someone credible like yourself on it. I put a lot of work into it, but a reliable review by someone such as yourself may be able to offer suggestions or comments, as well as feedback. I did a lot of research on it, including tracking down all missing citations, and doing all the references (to replace the dead links) was a huge undertaking (have used the cite Itsanhonour template so the deadlinks thing shouldn’t happen again - as the template can universally update all the links in future if there is another site change). Well, hello Tim.
There's a thing called DEFAULTSORT, which is is a magnificently misleading name. I say that because it's only used when the default name of the article, the exact name at the top of the page, does NOT apply. Typically, it's for titles of things that start with "A" or "The", which are ignored for sorting purposes.
To make that happen, we have to tell the system that the article is to appear in its categories as if those intrusive words appear at the end of the name rather than at the beginning. For example, "A Christmas Carol" should be sorted as if it were "Christmas Carol, A". That's where DEFAULTSORT comes in. We add:
  • {{DEFAULTSORT:Christmas Carol, A}}

immediately before the category specifications, and then everything comes out hunky-dory. The article's exact name still appears, but it's slotted into its appropriate place in the list.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without a reliable source as a reference are now being reverted on-sight.

Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Sorry big guy. I lost my temper earlier in that Australian notice board discussion with an editor who's been constantly pushing (since 2005) on Wikipedia, that either the governor-general is HoS or the monarch isn't. I had to earlier retract a post of mine at that discussion. It's not what he's pushing, but that he's been doing it for over 15 years. Even before I came on line. Anyways, I've ranted enough. I'm capable of stepping back & letting others discuss the topic, but he can't step back. I know I can 'sometimes' get on others nerves, but he's 'bleeping' annoying. Monarchists vs Republicans

It was the impression I was getting, from some of the posts (not yours) at the Australian monarchy discussion. It was somebody saying "republic by stealth", that caused my head scratching. GoodDay (talk) 02:57, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
The indigenous recognition referendum has to come first. That's been a very long time coming, and I have to say I have no faith this government will be doing anything about it, despite all the back-slapping about appointing our first indigenous Minister for Indigenous Affairs. The Statement from the Heart was just dismissed out of hand, by Turnbull, and Morrison has also been complicit. My sense is the republican thing went off the boil after 1999, and people are happy to let it lie until the current monarch dies.
