Hi Yeepsi. Yeah, what a coincidence − and less than a day apart! As you noticed, I've added a talk on the other contributor's page, and will probably add something on both SMSYB article pages. Out of interest, instead of adding the word "(song)" to the title to create a song article, how do you go about creating a new article when the song is already automatically being redirected to an album, d'you know? (I mean, how do you get the song title appearing in red when you search, but without going through Article Wizard and then putting the piece forward to ArticlesForCreation, which I've found can take forever.) Hmm... Well, for example see "The Day the World Gets 'Round" it goes to Living in the Material World, yes? At the top of the article (that is, if you've got to Living via TDTGR) there will be a note (<my term) "(Redirected from The Day The World Gets 'Round)" TDTWGR link will be in blue, click on that. It'll take you to TDTWGR. There, you can edit it. Just remove the redirect to Living if you do plan on working on TDTWGR. Then you'll on the way.

Well, I'm really into the George thing, 1970 to '75 particularly − I'd like to help make all those album and song articles really good. So if there's a George link, I'll definitely work on some Ringo stuff − I've already worked on the Nilsson-Ringo movie Son of Dracula, for instance, cos George guests. (For the same reason, I've done pieces on Lon & Derrek Van Eaton, the two Dark Horse Records albums by Ravi Shankar, Ravi's Apple releases.) I'd like to do the Doris Troy album, Jackie Lomax's Apple album ... ah, the list goes on. But not really interested in Lennon or Mac, no (especially not Mac) − such ego-heads(!). I've done the merge. I did not merge the page histories per this, but I tagged the redirect at Sue Me, Sue You Blues (song) so that it will not be deleted and the history will be preserved there. I tried to clean up the duplicate information. In most cases I think I used yours (with some additions from mine), but I used mine for the lede and the reception of Harrison's version (I think I added a line from yours there as well). Thanks, RIendog, I'm glad you did the merge and not me (followed your link, sounds complicated). In hindsight, might have been an idea to make my version the 'keep' and added in the extra details from yours, maybe. Just mention it because a few of the refs went astray somehow: all the Leng p. 127 ones were attributed to pages in I Me Mine (an interesting situation, if you think about it!). Fixed those now, but I hope they were the only ones, obviously. I've also done more work streamlining the combined article. This includes moving quite a bit of your text discussing authors' opinions down towards the end of the 'George Harrison version' section, sometimes paraphrasing the words (to avoid an unnecessary list of 'Zeth Lendy says ... Allmusic's Bruce Eder writes ...', because while critics' response is of interest, it's not as if each and every opinion is per se). Also, changed first heading to "Background and composition" and reworded that section in places (eg mostly past tense) to ensure that the focus there is very much 1971. This is in keeping with structure throughout the article, where developments are handled chronologically mostly − eg, background: late '60s Beatles context & early '71 High Court action; JE Davis version: mid-late '71/early '72 release; GH version: early-mid '73 (+ reviews up to present day); other versions: '74 tour (+ quick step back for '71 demo). I think it should make for a good piece all up. Great point you added about "Only a Northern Song", btw ... which got me thinking about "Taxman" in the same vein. The issue isn't that it is or isn't a publicity photo but that it's non-free, or fair use. If you can find proof that it was either never copyrighted or the copyright wasn't renewed, it would then be considered a public domain image and there would be no problem. With the photo as it is now, you might do some research and include text with references regarding the publicity campaign and the use of the photo in it. Doing that--showing the need for the photo in the article (because it's non-free)--may also solve the problem. We hope (talk) 15:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JG. I've notcied (from my Watchlist) you've made a huge improvement to the Concert for BD atricle. Without looking at it I'd say it's worth a GA quality rating. Well, other articles like (among others): the Living in the Material World and Dark Horse albums could be GA. The only problem is that with making an article GA is that they have to go through nomination process/GA review, which I have been meaning to do for some time.

When I do nominate the articles, I may need your help in case if any problems arise (most likely: sources, and/or structure), though most of the time the reviews go smoothly.
In the early-to-mid 70s, between John, Paul and George (who liked Ringo back in them days?), I've always found George's (no pun intended) material different from what the others were doing at that time. It's just a shame when George was on a high point in his career, then to be tumbled by the infamous tour (by the way, what is the official name of the tour? Harrison albums

Hi. Just thought I should get back to you about the note you left in your edit summary at Living in the Material World. The reason I added the ordinals is because it seems to be standard accepted practice to do so; in all the Beatles' album articles, for example, and I think WikiProject-wide consistency is a good thing. A secondary reason is that this guide, while not part of the MoS, has become widely established as a good standard to work from. It states as follows:

It is generally accepted to chronologically number studio albums in discographies where this would be applicable (Nirvana's debut album, Bob Dylan's fourth studio album, etc.).

Otherwise, I would just as soon not get into the debate about whether or not to count Electronic Sound and/or Wonderwall Music. A while ago, I got bold and removed the "experimental albums" field from the George Harrison template entirely. If I remember correctly, there were some (unchallenged) changes made to both Paul McCartney discography and Template:John Lennon that discarded the "experimental albums" field/section heading as well. Really the problem with it is that it's an unscientific determination. Electronic Sound is a studio recording, and it's an album by George Harrison (the first released in his name); all RS's will agree on that point. Wonderwall Music isn't really an issue, as it was a soundtrack and is counted separately for that reason.

The way I see it, the ordering listed in the lede section for each album's article (which should contain ordinals, by all accounts) ought to match the same ordering in the template. Hi Evanh2008. Yes, I hear you about the need for consistency. It's a shame that someone felt the need to remove that experimental album field from Lennon and Mac discographies, I guess − particularly with Lennon. It's just that with George's Electronic Sound, the album's such an oddity within his work as a whole, so it's pretty weird to see it in the progression of studio albums. Oh well ... Excellent suggestions BTW. I wasn't sold at first, but after introducing some of the material, and looking it over now, the Beatles section reads much better, and is more informative. Afterall, Sgt. I was born July '96, missed Anthology by few months, sadly. Until mid/late 2010, I hadn't (knowingly) come across any vinyl, 'till one day this guy came into a charity shop with a huge box of records. I was looking through the box and by pure luck I found A Hard Day's Night upto Revolver. Skip ahead to April/May '11, by this time I (with a little help from the people on eBay) had Please Please Me up to Let It Be, some of the 70s compilations and quite a number of the singles. Also by this time, I aquired my first Beatle solo album – Imagine – and an acoustic gutiar, to boot. Now, I've got all John and George albums, 3/4 Macca and 2/3 Ringo (his CD-only ones I'm missing!) albums (all on vinyl, course) and a Gretsch guitar (I'm sure George would be proud). RE:Madcap

Hello JG. Thank you for making those changes, and those questions. (I didn't think about adding why he left, etc.) I'll add them later on today.

About your changes:

  • The book (The Making of The Madcap Laugh) I've been using doesn't say what instrument Barrett used when "performing" some songs to Jones – I guessed guitar, but I'm not sure if it's acoustic or electric. But yea, "on guitar" is alright.
  • Some of the info, was already there and I forgot to expanded on that, and I duplicated it by mistake. Yea that's right, Shirley and Wilson were brought in eariler, while Soft Machine were brought in towards the end of the Jones' sessions.
  • Making of says Jones was "shocked", I couldn't think how to reword it. I was meaning to move his quote under Release but I kept forgetting, thanks for moving it.
  • I'll see if I can un-bold the last one.

Hello JG. The duplication of material is my fault – after I had finished gathering the information, I realised the majority of it could go on the Madcaps page. If I didn't move most of it, the Madcaps secion on Syd Barrett could have resulted in more duplication than there is now. I had been meaning to do a c/e of what was left, but after Barrett got to GA, the idea forgot itself. For Wikipedia's interest, sure, I'm up for it – I've got some more Floyd books (*Sound of money here*) which could could help differate the sections. Hi JG66, how are you? I hope all is well. The reason I'm writing to you is that I am interested in tinkering away and expanding the Dylan content in the "If Not For You" article, and likely eventually, taking it to GA. I notice that you have done some work on the Harrison section of it, and that you have some Harrison GAs and GAs-to-be under your belt. I don't know whether you had any plans to do more work on the article, but I was wondering whether you had any objections to me changing the reference style used. I'm not sure what it's called, but I'm most comfortable using the reference method where blue links take you from the Notes section to the References section (it's a kind of Harvard style, but I'm not sure if there are other variations that are also called Harvard). But if you were planning to do more work on it, and have a strong opinion about the reference style, I can be flexible about that. Just let me know, thanks! I'll have a peek around for anything about Bangladesh, but no guarantees. The real Dylan expert, who has tons of books, is Mick gold, if you can become buddies with him! I do have the Shelton book. Dunno if you've checked already, but it's partly viewable online: [1]. Apparently there are eight mentions of Bangladesh, but only two are shown in the free preview, and I suspect neither of them are what you want. About the Reviews, actually that doesn't have anything to do with "Wigwam". That means that I have reviewed 17 GAs. I don't know why they started adding that beside GA nominations. Hi. I couldn't find anything useful about the Concert for Bangladesh album in my Dylan books. I also looked to see whether Clinton Heylin had anything useful to say about "I'd Have You Anytime" (because I'd remembered he has an entry on the song in one of his books) but he mostly refers to some Harrison quotes that you have already used, such as from I, Me, Mine. I added a cover version (Evan Rachel Wood) and I think I got your ref formatting style correct, but of course tweak the formatting if I didn't. I notice that Allmusic also lists versions by Ralfi Pagan [2], Champale [3] (here the songwriting is credited to Harrison / Lynne, but if you listen to the sound clip, it's definitely the same song!), Fabulous Connections [4], and Nillah [5]. Actually Nillah and Fabulous Connections there's no songwriting credit given or sound clip, so it's not impossible that these could be different songs (could require more research). I'll leave it up to you if you want to add any of these, and how you want to describe them if you do. I could go ahead and do it, but I'm not as comfortable with your ref formatting system, for one thing. I also haven't totally decided on my policy of whether to only include covers by artists who already have Wikipedia articles themselves (sometimes it's a tough call), so I'll that decision to you, too. Hello JG. The lead was one of the first things I tried to change around, it used to be two big paragraphs, I did change most of it but there was some I couldn't edit around. Madcap did have a sessions logbook of sorts to detail it (w/ Syd's thoughts/feels/comments & events during the recording, etc.), whereas Barrett didn't (it was looking similar to a session logbook) so I tired to find another way around it. For the July 1970 concert, it happened almost at the end of the album sessions, so I was unsure whether to put it in Background or Release and aftermath. A bot fixes a ref if it's one of a kind on the page (like a page number which has been used once) and has been removed (usually if it has been in the article previously). An Abbey Road equivalent of a train spotter actually sounds interesting. Hello JG. It's alright. For Madcaps, producer Malcolm Jones later released a (very short) book about what happened during the sessions with comments from him and Barrett, that's why I put "(w/ Syd's thoughts/feels/comments & events during the recording, etc.)". With Barrett just having Gilmour producing, there wasn't any evidence of what Barrett was saying or feeling during these sessions, so I had only a logbook to work from. Yea, I see what you mean now about the recording details being not so notable. I've moved the "The main aim..." to the end of the first paragraph in Background. I do recalling read in Jones' book something about why EMI decided to let Barrett make another (I'll have another look at the book and find the reason(s). I recall somewhere that John said that Macca wrote only "pop songs", while George wrote songs "from his soul". Roughly once a month I go out to other cities, and more often than not I buy a lot of what's on sale at the record shop(s) or record fairs, it was just by luck I found the Lomax album. I haven't got those two Apple albums yet, though I've heard several songs from Encouraging Words thought they were great. I do have Postcard (in mono), James Taylor, and a Spanish(!) My Sweet Lord

Hi JG66. About the over-linking, is it really necessary to have Harrison's name linked twice in the same infobox? I don't see how one can miss his name in the heading. It's at the top. If you look at the article for John Lennon's song "Imagine", you'll see that Lennon's name isn't linked under songwriter because his name is already linked at the main heading. Why link twice? I won't necessarily change all of the George Harrison-related articles that have this issue. That would take up a lot of time. It's just a small change. No big deal. If George Harrison's name and the album All Things Must Pass is linked at the beginning of a sentence, that is fine. Linking more than once in the same sentence is then considered to be over-linking according to Wikipedia guidelines. Would you wikilink a person's name or something twice in the same sentence? Hi again JG. I've taken a look at the changes you made to the article and it seems fine now so I've passed it . I tend to agree with you about the review in the lead so I'm happy for you to take that out, but there's no need for that to hold it up. I wasn't sure how it would look, but notice Layla and Bohemian Rhapsody don't have that so it's probably not necessary. You might still want to request a copyedit, but again the prose is fairly good so there's no reason to hold it up. Congratulations anyway on another good article. Generally I think it seems fine, but found one or two small things that may need to be clarified a bit further. I've also asked for a second opinion as I reviewed the page with a text-to-speech programme so there are some things it may not pick up.
