Please don't make categories for a single page. In this case, the one page you added was a scholar of "Jewish" philosophy, not Israeli philosophy. I strongly recommend that you look at how other similar categories are populated and organized. Mason (talk) 20:38, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can see why a single page category is not good practice, but my thinking was that it would improve the category structure and that it was likely that there would be quite a few candidate articles to be added to the new category.
Greetings, I am writing to hopefully intercept a track you appear to be on which has signs of you having an WP:AGENDA with your edits on WP. While I have so far only addressed your edit to Indiana University - I have reviewed other recent edits you have conducted on university articles and they look to be on parallel tracks. So - with that I would like to politely request and even urge you to reconsider the direction you are heading with those (and other) edits. There is a LOT of history that needs to be added to these articles which actually support the formation and development of the universities to the institutions they have become today, and these types of controversies which in time will qualify as WP:RECENTISM are not necessarily the best places to start for the development and maturity of them. I would also ask you to review and then consider if such a track and agenda is in alignment with the goals of WP:WikiProject Higher education. In short - these articles deserve far more constructive and historical content than divisive - and that which will stand the test of history. The conflict in Israel/Palestine is of interest to me, and I found it interesting that many university articles read more like brochures. Once I added a section on protests, I just carried on. I found it interesting to research - there were different responses by different administrations and police forces, whereas the protestors seem to have very similar motivations.
I feel that these protests are an important social movement and similar protests (for example against the Vietnam war) led to important political and social changes in the USA and then the world. And I do notice that the student Vietnam war protests are not very well covered in the history sections of the various university articles I read.
I agree that there is a lot of history that is not covered in the university articles, but it does seem that a lot of them are bland - something that the university PR would write. I am adding a small piece of history that is of interest to me, but I cannot attempt a full history of any of the universities.

I honestly would have rather not had to add all of that. In the grand scheme of things - they are mere specs on the map & timeline of what any university is. If we started listing all the protests and controversies that happen at universities - even if they are significant national or international importance - the university articles would become quickly overwhelmed by that content, and this would fall into WP:UNDUE. I had to take the step I did in response to your addition on the IUB campus article originally because of the same situation - and yes, it was to make that same point. Absolutely the protests in totality are significant and a part of history, along with others and yes - including the Vietnam related protests. While these do impact, affect and shape the country - is the appropriate place for them in dozens or hundreds of university articles, or is it better for the over-arching article for the issue and/or article about the "nationwide protests" instead? I think the totality of how the protests impact the university overall through history vs. at the moment is what would better serve their articles.... and that's kinda why they read like brochures. They are about the university as a whole - how it began, how it grew and developed over time, what accolades and notable people it has churned out, and how it sits and offers today. In totality - yes the protests at universities have an impact on things like vietnam, and others - but individually not so much. Absolutely if any protest or other positive or "negative" event had a direct and notable impact on any given university, community, state or even the country or globe or the larger issue - then by all means "this happened at Indiana and it resulted in X" should be added. But at least in the context of the Palestinian protests (and Vietnam) - at least to date, there is nothing about the ones at IU that makes it stand out or has had a direct result or impact on the issue. But surely any single line is insignificant, but they make up the Wikipedia.
I agree that a single overarching article is a better consrtuct, but if we do not include something in the university article then that university article is certainly incomplete.
I would like to add my limited contribution and hopefully those that come later will improve it. I really do hope that my contribution improves WP, and I try to learn from the wisdom of editors like you.
