Ham House

It’s looking very good! Really sorry that I’ve not been able to get back to the Peer review, but real life is all-consuming just now, and will be for another week. If you’re not in a rush, I shall happily give it another once over after the end of next week. And I’d recommend pinging Tim Riley, he’s a prose master. If that doesn’t work to your timetable, I shall certainly pitch in at FAC. Wikipedia’s FAC can be challenging, but the amazing efforts of you and your team, and the constructive input of other editors, will make it an enjoyable and productive experience. And hopefully a successful one! All the very best. KJP1 (talk) 22:07, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @KJP1 that's so kind - thank you! I did as much as I could yesterday but they close the Reading Rooms at 1530 on Saturday, so I'll need to go back again to finish the referencing updates. And I won't have a chance to do that for another few weeks, at least. There's no timetable - I'll just keep plugging away at it when I get the time. Again, I really appreciate all your help and support - thanks!Isaksenk (talk) 08:08, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You’re doing a fantastic job on the sourcing. It is looking very good. KJP1 (talk) 20:09, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @KJP1 for the encouragement! There's still a lot of referencing to be done, but it's certainly in better shape than it was. Hoping I can get back to the BL within the next few weeks. They are no longer requiring desk pre-booking, so that will certainly make it a bit easier. Isaksenk (talk) 18:09, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Ham House

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Ham House you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Tim riley -- Tim riley (talk) 08:00, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments are on the GAN talk page, here: Talk:Ham House/GA1Tim riley talk 14:51, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Tim riley - I very much appreciate your efforts. I hope you won't mind if I get started on working through amendments in response to your comments now, as I only have time in the evenings. I've read through the guidance on the GA process, but if I'm doing something incorrectly, please do let me know. Thanks. Isaksenk (talk) 18:46, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No rush: the "7 days" mentioned above by the bot is a general rule of thumb for the opening stage of a review, but there is no fixed time limit. Moreover KJP1 mentions that he is only intermittently available to contribute as requested; I don't propose to put a time limit on the review process in this case. Meanwhile, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification or a steer on anything about which you are doubtful. Tim riley talk 13:27, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Ham House

The article Ham House you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Ham House for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Tim riley -- Tim riley (talk) 19:41, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ham House - GA!

Congratulations! - You have put an absolutely amazing effort into progressing the article and it is now exceptionally good. It clearly warrants a push for Featured Article status, and if there is anything I can do to help, just ping. I shall certainly comment at FAC. One thing, I would wait for the plan. I appreciate the desire to push forward will be strong, but I think, a) the plan will be good and, b) it will enhance the article. All the very best and thank you, you have made a major contribution to Wikipedia’s coverage of important buildings. KJP1 (talk) 19:46, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do you like the plan? Hchc2009 has done an amazing job. KJP1 (talk) 05:23, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed - thanks Hchc2009 for the plan - we're ever so grateful! As it happens, I attended a meeting at the house yesterday and had a chance to show the managers the progress over the last week - they were so impressed with the achievement and wanted me to extend the offer of a tour, should you, KJP1 or Tim riley ever be in the area. Now, I'm hoping to get some time over the next days to read through the FA process. Have a great weekend! Isaksenk (talk) 08:43, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Ham House

On 17 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ham House, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ham House contains a rare Charles I–era cabinet room, created for the display of miniature paintings? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ham House. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ham House), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ham

Hi Isaksenk - I should have mentioned that FAC can be a bit of a trial! But actually, there are some really good suggestions coming through, and your responses are definitely improving the article. Hang in there. I think we may have to make a move on the article structure, as we now have two, very experienced, editors, who don't like the long list of Dysarts coming before the main article subject. I've tried a rejig, here: User:KJP1/sandbox4-Ham House. Can you have a look and see what you think. Around all day to work further on it. KJP1 (talk) 12:19, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KJP1 I really appreciate all the support you've provided. The proposed rearrangement looks great, please go ahead if you think that will satisfy the senior editors. Sorry I can't do more at present - I'm headed to LHR for a few days of business abroad. I'll be back mid-week and can work on the additional observations. Thanks. Isaksenk (talk) 14:33, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Evening Isaksenk - not quite sure why Ham has stalled, although you are probably appreciating the break! My guess is that Ian Rose will give the tree a shake shortly. If he’s not done so by, say, midweek, I shall give Johnbod and Harry a nudge myself. Or feel free to do so. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 18:25, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey KJP1 I was wondering...but just assumed that waiting was in order. Having not been through this before, I've no idea what's expected behaviour. In the meantime, another volunteer has managed to capture some gorgeous photos, so I'll try to get them in place ASAP to replace some of the mediocre views. Thanks for keeping this effort in mind. Isaksenk (talk) 19:29, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's another Support chalked up! Will you thank Johnbod, or do you want me to? Now, we just need to chivvy Harry. KJP1 (talk) 14:28, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And another! Can you close up with thanks, and I’ll get the spot-check on the Sources done tomorrow. KJP1 (talk) 21:15, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done - thanks for the prompt KJP1 - I haven't been receiving alerts on the FAC page as usual. Isaksenk (talk) 21:23, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

By the authority vested in me by myself it gives me great pleasure to present you with this special, very exclusive award created just for we few, we happy few, this band of brothers, who have shed sweat, tears and probably blood, in order to be able to proudly claim "I too have taken an article to Featured status". Ham House scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Ham House article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 13, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 13, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:33, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Very pleased to see Ham House on the front page today. When I had my first FAs on the front page a wise older colleague advised me to pull the duvet over my head for 24 hours and ignore all the vandalism and well-meant idiotic changes and then come back and clean up once the procession has passed on and the article is no longer on the front page. There are many excellent editors who will revert the worst edits in the interim. Tim riley talk 00:16, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Holy cow, you weren't kidding Tim riley! Very helpful advice - I took a quick peek this morning and just stayed away - otherwise I would have had an entirely unproductive day. Looks like they've finally locked it down, thank goodness. Thanks again to you and KJP1 - and remember, the offer of a guided tour is still there! :-) Isaksenk (talk) 19:36, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ham House - TFA!

Doesn’t she look good! Congratulations. KJP1 (talk) 06:09, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and all who helped, today for Ham House, introduced: "This article is about a 17th-century stately home which sits along the Thames on the outskirts of London. The house and its gardens form a rare picture of the style of the courts of Charles I and II, as the family who owned the property sought (over the centuries) to preserve the grandeur of the era. Over the last year, a group of National Trust volunteers, who would normally be sharing the stories of the house with visitors, have spent the time in lockdown documenting the details of the house, gardens, collections and the people who lived there. As a highly-researched property, there is a wealth of academic literature upon which to draw, and we have done our best to provide a complete survey of the property and the people who created it."! - Lovely! ... and your first? Enjoy! - My mind is on Prayer for Ukraine. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:01, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

TFA nom?

Hi, you have listed Elizabeth Maitland, Duchess of Lauderdale for TFA at pending for February. I have tentatively reserved a date for it, but if you would still like it be considered you will need to nominate it at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests, which is now open. Cheers. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nudge @Gog the Mild. I've added the entry on the TFAR page, but do I also need to post the blurb somewhere? Isaksenk (talk) 18:45, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If in the TFAR page, under "How to post a new nomination" you post the article title in the space labelled "Article title" you will get a set of "fill the space" directions. Let me know if any of them are confusing. You should end up with the blurb posted under 11 February. Ec, as "Siege of Bukhara" has just been posted under 10 February.
