Thanks for the comment about my edits, and yeah I only been doing this for a few days but only a couple of faults (was late at night in my region, was tired). I think I'll get used to it soon, so I'll send another request at least half a month or so. Vernon (Versus22) (talk) 03:49, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
For all but the last one, "Category:Multilingual support templates" needs to be replaced with "Category:Chinese multilingual support templates" in the categorisation. For the last template listed above, you just need to do an empty edit to the page - the categorisation is transcribed from another page that is included but that is not protected, and it just needs to re-render the included page. Hitting "edit this page" and then saving the page without actually doing any edits will do the job. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 16:49, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
I feal that the deletion for this page was UNNESSARY AND COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT WITH Wikipedia RULES AND GUIDLINES because:
If someone heard of this Generator and wanted to know what it really was and looked it up on Wikipedia, the page would come up and there it would be. They would be able to find out who created it, what it does, and some technical Specifications about it. which was exactly what was on that page.
IT WAS NOT FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES FOR ANYONE OR ANYTHING!
If someone added an article about a New Type of Car, and who made it, what it does, and technical information relating to that car, would you delelte that page? You most likely would not have. So why delelte my page. There was no reason behind the deleletion and it as not for any promotional purposes of any kind.
I agree with this new reason, however the Deletion notice on the page stated that it was deleted for Promotional Reasons, which it was not ment for promotional reasons. If someone would have flaged it correctly I would have greatly and gladly added some new References and reliable sources. However, it was flaged as "Promtional" reasons for Deletion. Win-Hand (talk) 19:50, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I did delete it under WP:CSD#G11, and I still feel that without any reliable, third-party sources that it was written like an advertisement. If you can provide some sources that meet Wikipedia guidelines to me here on my talk page, I will be happy to undelete the article. It's not gone forever, you see. I do understand your reluctance, but I do know my way around the Rollback feature, as I run 3 copies of MediaWiki for 3 separate websites. If the feature is only intended to be used by those who are "hardcore" editors, then I understand, but if the number of edits I have made is the sole criteria, then I will admit to being somewhat irked if that is the case. Cheers. --Resplendent (talk) 19:56, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
It has less to do with your edit count than it does with the number of recent edits that you've made in total that demonstrate your ability to understand and use the rollback feature responsibly. In the past 3 months (Oct, Sept, Nov), you have only made a total of 103 edits to the mainspace with 10 of those being vandalism reverts. 10 vandalism reverts in 3 months equals more experience needed, to me, when I do one of these reviews. The undo feature will continue to be available to you on the rare occasion that you indeed use it and if you do want to get more involved in vandalism fighting I again direct you to Twinkle, which offers rollback functionality that is JavaScript based. Once you've demonstrated that you're a competent and productive vandalism fighter on Wikipedia who could very much benefit from the rollback feature, I will be happy to grant it. I don't mean to offend by any means, nor do I assert that your contributions here necessarily accurately reflect your experience and trustworthiness with rollback, but I can only go by what I see. If you'd like some help installing and getting familiar with Twinkle, let me know and I'll gladly lend a hand. Cheers! Ioeth(talkcontribsfriendly)20:14, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Rollback
Dear Ioeth,
I have kept on adding notes on the Rollback Requesting page, I also added your comment here. I am afraid he has filed yet another request just a week after, not a month as you recommended.
From, Limideen 16:41, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Please reconsider deleting this; it had just been through MfD here: the main complaint was that it was not a subpage. I won't promise that anything grand will come of this; but Ball valve might well have made something of it. SeptentrionalisPMAnderson19:59, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Someone repeatedly told you, but you didn't seem to have caught on. You don't have to write a separate delete comment. You can simply incorporate the bold "vote" in your nomination, but even that isn't necessary; admins will assume you want it deleted because you nominated it to begin with. - Mgm|(talk)00:19, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the reminder; here's one for you. What is this about being "repeatedly told"...this is the first time that someone has brought this issue up with me. The reason that I place a vote in an AfD that I start is because many times, folks submit articles for AfD out of process rather than because they actually want the article deleted. I have done this a number of times in the past, which is why I like to make the differentiation. Is it really a problem to include "Delete as nom. ~~~~" in an AfD? Ioeth(talkcontribsfriendly)14:35, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
About the repeated-thing someone tried to bring it to your attention, but all comments about this were put in the AFDs in question so far. It's likely you didn't notice. I don't think it's a pressing problem, but having both a nomination and a vote might confuse people, which is something I'd rather see avoided. Anyway, now you know. :) - Mgm|(talk)15:43, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I probably have missed them. I don't do much AfD work often other than occasionally nominating articles. I perused the AfD and deletion process documentation and didn't see anywhere that it is recommended that the nominator cast or not cast a vote (unless I just missed it). I suppose that I do agree that it could be confusing to have both a nomination and a vote in most cases. Perhaps we could add a note somewhere in the AfD documentation? I've gone through the articles they've edited, tagged other sockpuppets and suspected sockpuppets, removed vandalism and uncited information, and deleted hoax and vandalism articles. I just noticed that twinkle started to mark each speedy tagged page as patrolled without me having to click anything myself. After a quick search i noticed your edit in the source code introduced this new feature. It makes patrolling a quite a bit easier, since i no longer have click the "Page patrolled" link in the short time between tagging the page and reading it. Many thanks for adding this! Excirial (Contact me,Contribs)18:37, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
You are welcome! It's about time this feature was added, isn't it? I also made a change to WP:FRIENDLY to mark pages as patrolled when placing tags, and both tools have a configuration parameter that can be used to disable the automatic patrolling feature if need be. A while ago I was working on a page for an auxiliary language experiment called Falyoren.
You helped me out by moving it onto my user page so that I could finish work on the page.
The name of the language has since been changed to "Krasnian," and I have finally finished work on the page.
My dilemma is, however, that since the language is my own creation, I have no formal sources or references.
Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed before attempting to move my finished article back onto Wikipedia proper? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xrania (talk • contribs) 22:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
I doubt that you will be able to move the article back in to Wikipedia's article space. Articles on Wikipedia must conform to a number of policies and guidelines. I have left a welcome message on your page that details many of the more important ones. Two that you need to consider with regard to your article are the notability guideline and the verifiability policy. You may also want to take a look at the reliable sources guideline and the no original research policy. Your article and its subject seems to fail to meet all four of these key policies and guidelines. I don't think there's much if anything that I can do to help you. Ioeth(talkcontribsfriendly)13:59, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ioeth. :) Would you please review your decision here? I was just going to decline the request, however I edit conflicted with you. Best wishes, —αἰτίας•discussion•18:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I have reviewed now and I'm still of the opinion that we should give HairyPerry the opportunity to use rollback. With regards to this and this, I think that I can safely assert that everybody hits the wrong button or types the wrong edit summary on occasion, which is what I'm assuming here. I agree that the earlier request was declined properly, but HairyPerry has done a lot of good work since then and I think that giving him rollback now that he has more experience will be a benefit to the project. And besides, if it doesn't work out it can always be removed. Ioeth(talkcontribsfriendly)18:31, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes sir, I will use it properly and I will look over WP:RBK a couple more times to make sure I am clar on the proper use, even though I think I am, I will obey your request. Thank you, HairyPerry19:41, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Don't see it
I don't it see it that way at all - it seems to me to be a perfectly logical extension of the principle that was applied. If we are saying a) we must be mindful of foreign legal codes and b) we must ensure that we do no harm by protecting editors from falling foul of those legal codes - it seems entirely legitimate within the context of that discussion to ask editors to provide more detail. If I'd been dragging the wikiproject Islam or canvassing pages looking for examples, I'd agree with you. --Cameron Scott (talk) 22:21, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Top of the morning to you. I thought I'd mention that I'm restoring this article, which you speedily deleted on the (accurate) basis of self-promotion. Mr. Alexander's findings have gained media attention on the level of Time in this past week, forming a valid reason for having this article regardless of where it originally came from. --Kizor13:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Could you please explain more fully...
Could you please explain more fully how you came to conclude User:Howtobreakaterrorist was in a conflict of interest?
I looked, but I couldn't see where you had made an attempt to contact this new user for an explanation of how they chose that user-name. As I pointed out on Talk:Matthew Alexander wikipedia contributors choose names for odd reasons. Sometimes they choose names because they are fans. Someone who chose that wiki-id because they were a fan of the book wouldn't be in a conflict of interest, would they?
Serious concern has been expressed and I note your correct decision to have the page blocked previously.
There are issues about the vandalism by people who wanted the article deleted especially the audacious vandalism by roadahead.
The discussion page had been heavily edited by the pro-extremists, the references on Sikh terrorism have been deleted and the section on Globalsecurity was deleted by roadahead after he referred to the site as "weasel words"
I would like to point out I have had messages from Vivin and Enzuru about the above too.
Please also note article Mahraz Darshan Das Jee was deleted after the article Sikh Extremism exposed that he was another assassination by extremists. The same attention and demand to get Behzti deleted was also in place but remained on Wikipedia -
Hi Satanoid , before you start accusing good editors here of Vandalism please let the editor know of your own history of vandalism.:
I am not the primary author of this article and I luckily came across it while following an extremist editor i.e. author of this article, i.e. User Talk: satanoid. I had a chance to read Sikh extremism and the original article Khalistan movement and found it a distorted form of existing wikipedia article Khalistan movement only. This bad faith article has been created by User Talk: satanoid to satisfy his own extremism and spread hate WP:POV against Sikhism only. It is necessary to go through his history to understand his actual motive behind creating such hateful article which does not make any sence.
Here he has mistakenly proved his link with one of above mentioned IP Addresses.
He was blocked several times because of his same hatefull acts but wikipedia could not find a permanent solution so far.
He is simply using his manipulation skills to spread baseless hate against a religion, which he hates, through this article. Remember, He can delete contents from an editor's talk page and 'can put the blame on the victim immediately afterwards. He, through Sikh extremism, is manipulating information from Khalistan movement in a similar way to spread hate WP:POV against Sikhism on Wikipedia. Khalistan movement was a political movement similar to Indian independence movement. Both of these came into existence because of major independence issues felt by certain citizens of their respective countries. --Irek Biernat (talk) 03:29, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
The content dispute has degraded into vandalism. You continue to re-add the disputed content regardless of the fact that multiple other editors continue to revert you. The only reason that I protected the article instead of issuing a block was because you're editing anonymously on a dynamic IP address. In short, stop edit warring; it is considered vandalism in this case. Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 16:17, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
While it's true that I work for Ms. Martin, I am not her. You will be able to see that all of the information I listed in her entry is verifiable. She has made significant contributions to the field of marketing and is a well respected cultural analyst. I didn't see the page marked for deletion, and I know it couldn't be speedy deletion. Please let me know where it went, as my query went back to the list of lucky star characters, which is not where I originally placed the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patricia8821 (talk • contribs) 17:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
So then, someone neutral could add it and we'd be fine? Did you even check the facts before you deleted it? This information can be in here, according to the guidelines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patricia8821 (talk • contribs) 17:53, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I did read and check some of the facts before I decided to delete the article. You should avoid editing or creating articles related to topics with which you have a personal involvement, such as Patricia Martin. If she is notable enough, an editor without a conflict of interest will eventually get around to creating an article about her. Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 17:55, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid that you placed too much emphasis on the latter half of the explanation "to allow editors to leave messages for this user without triggering the notification banner." I protected the talk page (with the link to the message page) not at Charitwo's request, but to force him/her to stop prohibiting people from communicating with him/her (which he/she insisted on doing because of the orange bar). If Charitwo is willing to accept messages on his/her talk page, that's fine. —David Levy23:08, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Charitwo was continually making the page a redirect (with the stated purpose of hiding any text added below the code) and inserting the message "Get out of my talk page because I don't care." via a hidden comment. —David Levy23:45, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
There is a section in the discussion of Sikh Extremism titled "Wikipedia being used as a propaganda platform" It seems strangely ironic coming from an editor (Roadahead) who wanted and voted for its deletion, but perhaps that's his intention ?
After I started working on the article Sikh Extremism, a number of pro-extremists angrily voiced to have the article deleted. After a period of discussion all the admins who contributed (Flewis, LeagleEagle and DJ Clayworth) voted to keep the article after checking all the references such as:
http://www.milnet.com/tgp/data/sikh.htm
Those of us editors (Enzuru, Vivin, LeagleEagle & myself ) who have expressed its validity have had our contributions monitored and discussed on talkpages, subequently many of our contributions on the discussion boards have been removed and the Sikh Extremism article has had countless vandalism attacks by those (originally wishing for its deletion) now wishing to distort or remove references like GlobalSecurityBBCCBC NewsRediff which are being touted as rubbish. I personally have been accused of being an extremist as was Terry Milewski of CBC News whose reference was also removed form the article regarding Sikh terrorism in Canada.
As far as the article Mahraz Darshan Das Jee is concerned in connection with Sikh Extremism, its interesting that this peace campaigner and humanitarian was murdered in 1987 by Sikh Extremists who saw him as a threat to their theocratic politics. He was not involved in terrorism or politics and his article was on Wikipedia prior to the article I began on Sikh Extremism, unfortunately it attracted people who wanted his article deleted simply on grounds of copyright which are not even copyrighted anyway and can be freely distributed, but it wasn't even asked if it could be reverted back to its version prior to the creation of Sikh Extremism article
If you can put this back, to that version which can be worked and expanded on before user:Roadahead condemned it to the dustbin, I and many others would appreciate it.
I would also like point out that the ISYF International Sikh Youth Federation was banned under EU, US, Indian & Canadian terrorism legislation across the world. But they continue to operate through the internet through distortion, manipulation through SikhiWiki
If its OK, I would like to create a page on Darshan Das as he was known
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I just wanted to leave a reminder that the article, when I tagged it, did not assert the notability of the subject. In all fairness, at that point I could have tagged it with {{db-person}}, but decided that an editor in your standing would be addressing the issue soon. Keep up the good work! Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 16:05, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
User:KieranT676 (and associated socks) which you blocked indefinitely has returned as User:MeKieran. He has been editing generally in good faith on Escape from Scorpion Island and elsewhere. He has since created Kieran Thomson, promoting himself and his imaginary presenting career and added an EL to his You Tube page. I'm not sure if I should request this sent to AfD or could it be speedily deleted as per WP:SPEEDY? And is there anything we can do to stop this reoccurring? Cheers. You deleted my article for Soundcheck Magazine because you said it seemed like advertising and was too promotional. I looked up several wikipedia pages for other music magazines and used the format of an approved and published page for Filter Magazine. I believe our page to be equally or less promotional than Filter's (and many others for that matter). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_Magazine
What would you suggest I do to make our page less promotional seeming? We are a free magazine so I am not trying to sell or advertise anything...simply to explain why we exist.
I read the guidelines and I do not understand how I can write this article and be less promotional. Would you allow the article if I removed the description at the top and only listed the Issues and the contents of each Issue?

Look I'm getting it from all angles here. I want to introduce a product information section like the one pepsi has (Pepsi#Ingredients)where the ingredients, nutrional information, vegetarian suitability can be listed. However, I am told it is irrelevant on the Hoegaarden brewery page becaus ethat's not what the article is about. So I started a Hoegaarden products page but it's tagged for deletion. If someone would just tell me where I could put information like this it would be a great help. That's all I want to know but I keep asking and no-one will give me straight answer. Twinkle
Hi Ioeth I don't want to rush you in the slightest, just wanted to point you towards a couple of threads you should have a look at at some point since they have been buried a bit benath other threads while you were absent: "WT:TW#'my contributions' page" and "WT:TW#User talk page templates when issuing I8". I'll also eventually need your help with a change requested at User talk:AzaToth#Automatic Welcome message. I can do the changes to Twinkle, but wanted to check if you have any objections first. I was thinking of creating an additional config switch to change the behaviour of the messages, since a checkbox that can interactively be changed doesn't seem appropriate since it will only have an effect in a minority of the cases. I'll do the modification in my user space, and will ask you then to copy them over to Twinkle. Cheers, and a belated happy new year, Amalthea00:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Would you please consider altering your explanation for your closure of the afd on this page? While forking material that isn't getting in the main article is not a good idea. I can certainly understand Betty Logan's frustration. She's getting blanked without any explanation as to why the information she's providing is not relevant. Even worse, according to the source she provides, it's not common for beers to be suitable for vegans, which makes it a unique feature of this particular brewery. A fact which in my view is worthy of a mention somewhere (I have yet to find the actual product list in the main article). I therefore believe that branding this vandalism is not the correct course of action. - Mgm|(talk)10:54, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I'll absolutely consider rewriting my closure explanation, but I'm kind-of at a loss of what else to use. The article was created for the expressed purpose of avoiding breaking 3RR while adding what was, at the time, poorly sourced information that had already been rejected by consensus. G3 seemed to be the best fit, and I also followed up by engaging User:Betty Logan and others involved in discussion on their talk pages and on Talk:Hoegaarden Brewery. Do you have any ideas about what I should alter my closure explanation to read? Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 14:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I would've let the discussion run its course so there'd be a clear consensus (and perhaps one on its inclusion in the parent article) or simply do a speedy merge since it's not suitable for a separate article (and thus avoid a deletion debate altogether); yet another reason why I'd like a centralized merge debate system. - Mgm|(talk)19:21, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
The problem was that no actual discussion about including the information in the Hoegaarden Brewery article had occurred. There was an edit war over including the information in that article, but no discussion took place at all. At the time I didn't want to do a speedy merge because the information had been removed from the brewery article multiple times by multiple editors previously, but at the same time forking the article just to include this tiny bit of extra information without achieving consensus was just as disruptive as the edit war itself. I did all of this in order to stop an edit war and encourage discussion about the new information and the sources which is now happening on the talk page. If nothing else, I'll chalk this one up to an IAR action in order to resolve the situation quickly and effectively. G3, though, still seems to fit to me, and the overall outcome seems to be good; discussion is now occurring so that consensus can be achieved. Personally, I think this information should be included, and will probably participate in the discussion at some point. For now, though, what's the problem? Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 19:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Capitals
Because SmackBot deals with some hundreds of templates, each of which can be formatted in hundreds of ways, it is necessary to canonicalise templates to make the problem tractable. In general SmackBot will only edit an article like this when a date needs adding (or fixing), but, occasionally, the tag will be dated or removed before SB gets to the article, or will be in a different form, a new tag SB is just learning about, or I may have had to fall back to a previous version of SB for some reason. Or indeed someone may have broken the category inclusion rules, by breaking a template or any of half a dozen other actions.
See also my FAQ for reason SB might visit an article it can't fix.
Note that the amount of work SB has to do is appears to be decreasing significantly; probably Friendly is partly responsible for this, so well done!
P.S. If Friendly left capitalised tags that would be cool. RichFarmbrough, 09:56 27 November 2008 (UTC).

I've been off-wiki for a very long while, but I was surprised to see that a stub I created a very long time ago was speedily deleted (by you) per G11. Thankfully, someone else re-created the article, which is now very well sourced.
Would it be possible for you to please retrieve the contents of the old (deleted) article and post it to my talk page? I would like to make sure that anything relevant in the old article has been included in the new one. Thank you! OscarTheCat3 (talk) 21:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I actually clicked the wrong button when I performed that speedy deletion. It was supposed to be deleted under CSD criterion G12. Unfortunately, I can not retrieve the old contents for you, as it is a copyright violation of the Gordon Institute of Musical Learning webpage. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help! Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 21:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Wow, I'm not usually one to plagiarize. If it didn't meet the "sniff test" though, then you were right to delete it. As I said, no worries, the new article is written much better anyway. Thanks! OscarTheCat3 (talk) 21:57, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I seem to have a problem with Friendly's welcome tab - when I load a user talk page it simply isn't there! Could you check and tell me what's up? User:Thehelpfulone/monobook.js. I think that the tab might be cut off because I have too many tabs?
Do a cache clearing refresh (CTRL + F5) just to make sure that you haven't got a script error going on. It is possible that the "welcome" tab is so far to the right that you don't see it...you could stretch out your browser window and look to find out. You can rearrange the order of the import statements in your monobook.js file if you want tabs for one tool to appear before tabs for another as well. Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 18:31, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Once again, many appreciations for your work on Friendly. —Sladen (talk) 18:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
White Brazilians
Hello...
I received your message about edit war. I understand that this continuous reversal of edits is nasty, but I don't think I am the main responsible for it. The changes I have made seem perfectly reasonable, and they do not constitute vandalism at all. The section I suppressed was terribly written (being about Demography by Cities, it listed a few very small towns, and did not have any content about the demography of Brazilian big cities). The other changes I made were either new material or corrections of imprecisions in the previous version (for instance, the previous version gave the impression that the French and the Dutch came to Brazil as immigrants in the XVI century, when they actually conquered parts of the country; it stated that White Brazilians are predominantly Catholic and Protestant, with a Jewish minority - White Brazilians are predominantly Catholic, with Protestant, non-religious, other Christian, Kardekist, and Afro-Brazilian minorities, and the Jewish minority is quite smaller than all those).
I tried to discuss the issue in the discussion page, but the other user systematically reverses my changes.
The user Donadio keep the edit-war even after your 3RRR advice. He keeps removing sourced informations in that article, arguing he finds them not necessary. However, the informations are sourced and follows Wikipedia's rules. Moreover, he keeps including unsourced and informations based on his personal opinion (such as this religion thing, which is also not sourced). Please, do not let that article be destroyed. Opinoso (talk) 14:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry to disturb you again with this subject. This other person has sent the following message to my talk page:
Donadio, if you keep removing informations from this article and posting the "fact tag" in informations that already have a source, I will contact an administrator once again. Also, you are posting with this IP numbers (189.27.6.23, 189.27.19.95), witch are your sockpopets, which is also not allowed here (to use sockpopets is also a vandalism). Please, stop it. Opinoso (talk) 01:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
So, please let me explain what this is about.
First, I do not use sockpuppets, but I eventually do forget to login, and, when I am in the web from home, it sometimes happens that my login expires, so eventually my contributions are signed by my computer IP instead of "Donadio". I hope this is not a breach of policy; I certainly do not intend to evade responsibilities by doing it.
Second, the "fact tag" I have been placing. This person has linked to a supposed "source" to back his claims. But from what I read from that source, it does not corroborate the claims. Besides, the subject under discussion is Brazilian demography; the source in case is merely a commercial association (Câmara Italo-Brasileira de Comércio), that does not have any special authority regarding the subject. Moreover, this person's claims are contradicted by the official source for such matters, the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). I have tried to make a somewhat neutral edit, keeping his claim and his source, but adding the correct information and the IBGE as its source, but he has reverted the edit, alleging, as he uses to do, "vandalism".
In fact, he seems to behave as if he was the "owner" of that article, trying to avoid people who disagree with him from editing.
Could you please take a look on what is going on on that page, or refer me to someone that can do it?
Hello. The user Donadio, even after getting blocked, keeps removing sourced informations, changing informations without discussion and causing troubles in the article White Brazilian. He is now including "fact tags" after informations that already have sources, and also does original research. He is also using different IP numbers. Please, take a look. Opinoso (talk) 21:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Twinkle as a Gadget
Really? Why wouldn't it? The gadget doesn't do anything differently, and javascript has no namespaces so Twinkle will still find the (global) TwinkleConfig set in the monobook.js (or won't override it with the defaults, whichever is executed first). Or am I mistaken? --Amalthea19:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Says right on the gadget description: "When installed as a gadget, Twinkle uses the default settings only; to customize Twinkle you must install it the traditional way." Not sure if that's accurate or not, but my recommendation is always that if you want to customize Twinkle (or Friendly, for that matter) with additional configuration, you should install it into your monobook. Do some testing and find out for us! Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 20:11, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Wait, it does work? As I recall, I have tried customizing Twinkle when installed as a gadget and it didn't work for me... I always just assumed it had something to do with the order scripts got executed in or something. 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)12:59, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
It works for me. When I add TwinkleConfig.showRollbackLinks = []; to a script that is loaded by my monobook.js and look at the latest diff of some page, the rollback links disappear. If I remove it and refresh the page, they are back again. The Twinkle scripts take care not to overwrite config options that have already been set, so the order of script execution should not affect it (except possibly options that are used in the onLoad hook). --Amalthea16:00, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, sorry for all the confusion I've caused then. I've edited the description so that it no longer includes the bit about not being able to customize it. Happy Twinkling! —Remember the dot(talk)22:31, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, Friendly can also be customized even when installed as a gadget - I'm looking at the FriendlyClock right now, which I like better than the clock gadget. 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)22:48, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Hi loeth, First let me say that I had to think about this for a couple days, but I figure I'll never know if I don't ask. My question(s) revolve around the Larry Sanger article. I don't want to jump on any bandwagon, kick anyone who's down, or stir up a shit-storm with anyone. I'm fairly new, and in response to an RfC, I responded to the article mentioned. Specifically, I ended up editing the Citizendium vs. Wikipedia section here, and each effort was reverted very quickly. I was attempting to make the section more NPOV, and the edit comments and talk page didn't make it clear (at least not to me) why my edits were rejected. I understand that a Sanger article may point out Wikipedia short-comings, but the section (in my eyes) after the Sanger quote appear(ed) to be stating fact, rather than a detractor's or independent editors opinion.
I did first go to the admin. who had contributed to the talk page, but when I saw that she was "semi-retired", I thought I might approach you. Again, I'm not trying to throw fat into the fire, I was just seeking some constructive advise about my edits. My edits were on January 15 and 16 I think. Thank You. Ched (talk) 02:06, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Your edits were reverted because they did not improve the article. In your first set, you linked to the project space. We don't do that. You altered the wording of WP:V, which was stated in the article as it is in the policy, and you changed wording that read better the way it was. In your subsequent edits, you attributed "quotes" to "independent editors" and added quotation marks around the bullet points, which were not quotes. QuackGuru reverted all of your edits. Probably would have been best to contact him with your concerns, or to ask on the article's talk page. If there are changes you think should be made, discuss them on Talk:Larry Sanger first. لennavecia05:55, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, I've dropped my thoughts at both places. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I do appreciate that. My changing the wording of WP:V was simply an effort to correct the mis-quoted part in the article though. I wish you all the best Lara. Ched (talk) 09:34, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Twinkle GA Question
Hi, I just had a quick Twinkle question. Passing a article for GA is very tedious and involves many steps. Can't you integrate a GA tool into Twinkle? That would be so convienent! I love Twinkle to Patrol new Pages already and using it for GA would be even greater. Please reply ASAP.Cssiitcic (talk) 22:31, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! That would really help. Keep me posted on my talk page. And for future reference, if you don't want to reply on my talkpage, I understand that, but please place the {{talkback}} template on my talkpage so I know to check back.:-) Thanks!Cssiitcic (talk) 15:58, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I think there actually might be. The thing that I'm working on is trying to get Twinkle to properly submit sockpuppet reports. The issue that I'm having right now is that to get Twinkle to properly post to the report page, I have to include a non-blank edit summary. I tested and saw that because of the way that TW is doing it, I don't have to worry about the edit summary being turned into a level 2 header. I thought to myself, "fantastic!", but it was short lived. Have a look at this bot edit, or simply the deleted page history if that link doesn't work. It looks like something triggered the bot to remove headings, but it wound up removing the entire contents of the page. I have a feeling that the trigger was the edit summary. Could you help with this? Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 19:27, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Yoy! thats a bug! I'm the developer of said bot! You can leave the level 2 and 3 headers and just let the bot remove them as normal.... I need to figure out why the bot went beserk in this case regardless... Can you link me to the twinkle diff (eg what twinkle put up)? —— nixeagleemail me19:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
P.S. If you are going to take the time to use the talk back template, just copy what you said over to my talk page, then we both get a record of the conversation. —— nixeagleemail me19:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Heh, Talkback is super fast for me since I recently wrote a Friendly module for it. Here is the edit that Twinkle made. Sorry that it's not a diff, but because I had been deleting the page after creating it, the diffs aren't working right. Let me know if you need anything else. Feel free to hit me up on IRC. ioeth@chat.freenode.net Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 19:34, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
JS request
Hey Ioeth, sorry for bothering you with what's ultimately a rather trivial request, but I was wondering if you could provide some Javascript code for determining if a line in the editbox is empty or not (I'm only worried about the last line, if that simplifies matters any, and whitespace should be counted as blank). Actually, if you've got any suggestions for how I might further improve User:Dinoguy1000/amdelsort.js, that'd be pretty cool, too. Thanks in advance! 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)23:27, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
If you do not need to capture what's on the last line, the easiest way would be to use a regular expression. The regular expression
/\n\s*$/
will match true on any string with a blank last line as you described above. If you have the text from the input box stored in a variable named text then you can use logic like the following:
if(text.match(/\n\s*$/)){// last line is blank}else{// last line is not blank}
Alright, so how would I use the first statement in an if() expression (since I'm not storing the content of the editbox anywhere)? if( document.editform.wpTextbox1.value.match( /\n\s*$/ ) {more code }? Also, I'm having some trouble with correct page detection - is there something wrong with this code that you can see? It *should* be matching to XfD pages like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New Gaupher Eels, but it's being stubborn.
if(wgCanonicalNamespace=="Wikipedia"&&(document.title.indexOf(" for deletion")!=-1||document.title.indexOf(" for discussion")!=-1)&&document.editform)
You can use the match function on any String object in JavaScript, so doing
if(document.editform.wpTextbox1.value.match(/\n\s*$/)){//last line is blank}else{//last line is not blank}
should work just fine. You do have a problem in your code for XfD page detection. The canonical namespace name of the "Wikipedia" namespace is actually "Project". You could make that small change, but I would do it by the namespace number instead. Like this:
if(wgNamespaceNumber==4&&(document.title.indexOf(" for deletion")!=-1||document.title.indexOf(" for discussion")!=-1)&&document.editform)
Alternatively, you could use another regular expression to condense that down to:
if(wgNamespaceNumber==4&&document.title.match(/ for d(elet|iscuss)ion/)&&document.editform)
Ah, okay, that makes sense. Also, thanks for the condensed version (and I just realized, it can be slightly more condensed (and sped up, since it eliminates some DOM processing) by replacing document.title with wgTitle)! I can't think of anything else off-hand, but I may refer to you in the future if I'm needing some JS help (if you don't mind, of course ;) ). 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)20:29, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! Actually, I thought of another improvement already - document.editform to wgAction == "edit" || wgAction == "submit". And it's still not detecting the page properly... it should be inserting a tab reading "Anime and manga Deletions" at the top of the XfD page. I'm tempted to go back to the more generalized code (addOnloadHook(function()) at [3]) and gradually work up from there, to see if the problem is directly in that section, or somewhere else in the script. Any thoughts? (BTW, you can feel free to experiment directly with the script, since I'm not currently actively using it) 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)20:48, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Aah, thanks for the fix. I didn't originally write the script (that would be User:Raylu and any contributors to Template:Deltab), and my knowledge of JS isn't much, so I never would've figured that out. That being said, the script is now complaining about document.editform not being defined, which makes no sense. 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)16:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
If I may go off on a tangent here before you reply to my last message, at this point, I'd really like to see this script developed enough to be integrated with Twinkle. Generalizing it to add to any delsort page should be trivial, and ultimately, I'm wanting the script to make such additions automagically anyways. Thoughts? 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)19:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Looks like you got the document.editform problem sorted out; good job! If you could point me to a comprehensive list of deletion sorting procedures and whatnot I'd be more than happy to look into integrating this sort of tool into Twinkle or Friendly. Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 14:57, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Yup, finally did (since I realized I could have solved several of my above problems much faster just by looking at FF's error console =P ), though I still have the nagging feeling that the code as-is could be further improved somehow... Deletion sorting procedures, huh? Personally, I really only work with WP:ANIME's deletion sorting page (the lead of which I have extensively rewritten ;) ), but it should be at least superficially similar to most other deletion sorting pages - at least, the general procedure for listing AfDs is the same. CfDs, TfDs, other XfDs, and PRODs generally seem to be listed on a case-by-case basis, if they're listed at all, but it may be a good time to start encouraging everyone to list them. User:The wub (who runs User:The wubbot) does a lot of work on various delsort pages, you may want to coordinate efforts with him as well. I intend to still help out if I can, but I'm really hating how constrained my knowledge of JS is now. :-\ 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)18:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it seems that Jayvdb beat us both to the punch with his own delsort tool, which relies on Twinkle to add discussions to delsort lists (although it doesn't seem to have been actively developed since December 2007). 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)23:12, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I've cleaned up and compacted the code further (replaced addTab() and addlilink() with addPortletLink(), and a few other tweaks), and have started playing with generalizing the script and taking a delsort name on-the-fly (based on User:Pb30/Delsort tab/delsort.js) at User:Dinoguy1000/delsort.js. One minor bug that should be fixed (but isn't terribly important ATM) is for the script to make sure it's not being added after an excessive number of newlines - these should be condensed into one or two newlines (and any extra whitespace in said newlines needs to be removed). I intend to look into adding the tab when just viewing an AfD discussion (doesn't seem too hard to do), and at some point, some regexp magic needs to be added to check if the discussion has been closed or if the specified delsort message has already been added (and to make sure the specified delsort list actually exists). I've also backported most all of the improvements to the original script at Template:Deltab. Any thoughts? 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000)21:26, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Heh, I'm pretty confident that it won't. The QueryString constructor in morebits certainly always expects a URL-encoded string, so it should be fine. --Amalthea20:36, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
So I am guessing I will not get a yes/no answer then. That is all I want. I need it for some project I am doing for college. --Comstate (talk) 21:24, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Is there any plan to make a comprehensive list of Wikipedia templates available per WP:TEMPLATE in friendly? Currently there are some, but many are missing(particularly in the disambig). Also, out of curiosity, what program do you use to debug/write twinkle?(I'd like to help with the coding, but I haven't written in javascript in a few year and don't remember a lot=P)Smallman12q (talk) 12:39, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
I'd also like to ask if there are any plans to add tooltips to the "tag" option of twinkle. Lastly, I wanted to know if its possible to make it so that popups would give a preview of the template when we scrolled over it.Smallman12q (talk) 12:39, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the logic improvement; I went ahead and integrated that change into friendlytag.js. To write and debug Friendly, I just use a standard text editor and then Mozilla Firefox 3 with the Firebug plugin installed. On my Windows machine, I use the Textpad text editor with a syntax definition file for JavaScript highlighting and on Ubuntu I just use gedit, which already has JavaScript syntax highlighting built in. I've thought about starting to use the Firefox plugin Greasemonkey to help with development and testing as well, but haven't gotten around to it yet. There is no plan to have every template available on Wikipedia in Friendly, simply because it would be much too difficult to use the tool as the list would be so long. The main goal of Friendly is to provide easy access to the most commonly used templates in the article namespace. I did add functionality a while back that allows users to include their own list of additional templates that they use on a regular basis. Have a look at the section cutomTagList on WP:FRIENDLY if you'd like to know how to do that. It would be possible to add the "tag" tab to talk pages as well, but currently Friendly doesn't have any talk page templates, only article space. What talk page templates did you have in mind? I hadn't planned on adding tooltips to the tags in Friendly since the descriptions seem to give you all the information you need about the template, but did you have an idea about something that needed to be put in tooltips? You could probably figure out a way to make popups work with Friendly, but it would most likely also take a modification of morebits.js to get it done. Ioeth (talkcontribstwinklefriendly) 14:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I know you don't support adding numerous templates, but for some editors it would be easier than remembering all of them. I will however try and make an extended version of the "tagger" so it includes all templates. I do have a few questions though with subgroups.
friendlytag.generalList=[{label:'Disambiguation and redirection',value:'disambiguation_and_redirection'subgroup:{name:'disambiguation_and_redirectionn',type:'checkbox',list:[{type:'input',label:"\{\{ dablink|message goes here \}\}: articles with alternative meanings ",value:"dablink_message"}}}];
I'd like to know how I can get it to take input in a subgroup. I'd also like to know how to put headers in a subgroup...(its been some time since ive worked with javascript...all I remember is the logic=P). Smallman12q (talk) 22:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
You should include all of the templates listed on WP:RFPP. In addition, there friendly doesn't check to see if a page is already partly protected...which brings me to my next request. For protected pages, rpp should be changed to reflect a request for removal of page protection.Smallman12q (talk) 14:22, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
