What was wrong with my edit
Hello. I edited the page doof with valid information including adding a recent festival, saying which festivals were discontinued and the general concensus of what a doof is. Why was my edit reverted? Thanks Sheepy420 (talk) 13:55, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
@Sheepy420: Hello and welcome to my talk page. I reverted your edits because you did not provide a reliable source for your edits. If you can provide me a source that supports your edit, I will consider reinstating your edit. Interstellarity (talk) 13:57, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
A request for comment asks whether partial blocks should be enabled on the English Wikipedia. If enabled, this functionality would allow administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces, rather than the entire site.
A proposal asks whether admins who don't use their tools for a significant period of time (e.g. five years) should have the toolset procedurally removed.
The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
Hello,
I would like to be trained in the ways of anti-vandalism.
This would make Wikipedia at least a little more professional and a lot better.
Brownlowe.2 (talk) 17:53, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
@Brownlowe.2: Hello and thank you for your interest in the learning how to fight vandalism. Before we start, you will need to have at least 200 edits in the mainspace. Have a read at WP:VANDALISM for a quick guide to learning how to fight vandalism. After you have done some basic counter-vandalism work, pop back on my talk page and we could start training together. Courtesy pinging Girth Summit and CASSIOPEIA if they want to share their thoughts as well. If you have other questions editing or using Wikipedia, the Teahouse is always open to you where other editors are willing to assist you as you go about your journey editing Wikipedia. Good luck. Brownlowe.2 Hi - thanks for your interest in learning about countering vandalism on Wikipedia. Without wanting to put you off, I think Interstellarity's advice is good - spend a bit of time exploring the site, editing on areas that interest you, following talk page discussions. Read more than you write - figure out how things work. Read WP:VANDALISM, also read things like WP:AGF, WP:OFWV, WP:DENY - all good guides to how to get into this. If, after a few weeks, you want to learn more about working against vandalism, get in tough again. I've told Interstellarity in the past that I believe they would be a valuable trainer, so they are willing to take you through the course,I think that would be perfect - if they're too busy though, you can reach out to me. Cheers GirthSummit (blether)21:11, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Counter-Vandalism Academy
Hello! I saw you had an opening for training on the counter-vandalism academy and I was interested in going through the program. You're only one time zone apart from me so I thought you might be a good fit. Would you please message me if you're willing to be my instructor? Et0048 (talk) 05:36, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
@Et0048: Hello and thank you for your interest in the counter vandalism academy. I took a look at your contributions and I see they have been improving the encyclopedia, but I didn't see any counter-vandalism work. Have a read at WP:VANDALISM to see how to fight vandalism on Wikipedia. Come back here when you have done some counter-vandalism work. Interstellarity (talk) 13:46, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
TheWikiWizard - January 2020
Hello, Interstellarity! Here is the January 2020 issue of TheWikiWizard.
Someone has deleted the speedy deletion tag now, but the page I have created is about a different person to the subject of the AfD (and someone who is notable according to WP policies). Bookscale (talk) 20:46, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
Several of our members monitor Wikipedia's help IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afcconnect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.
Once again, welcome to the project.
New message from Target Barsado
Hello, Interstellarity. You have new messages at [[User talk:Target Barsado#Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit|Target Barsado's talk page]]. Message added 16:11, 20 January 2020 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
@Target Barsado: Hello and thank you for your interest in the Counter-Vandalism Academy. I took a look at your contributions and saw that you are making constructive contributions and applied for rollback, but I didn't see any counter-vandalism work. I would be willing to take you through the course, but I would like to see some counter-vandalism work beforehand. Please have a read though WP:VANDALISM for a basic guide to reverting vandalism. Also, I am currently in school and may not review assignments right away. If you have other questions regarding editing and using Wikipedia, please drop a question at the Teahouse where I or other editors are willing to help you. I hope this advice helps and let me know you're thoughts on this note. Interstellarity (talk) 00:35, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
@Padavalamkuttanpilla: This is no need to send me emails unless it has to be between you and us. Yes, I am willing to take you through the CVUA program. I saw you have been blocked for edit warring which is a red flag when reverting vandalism. I would recommend that you complete the Wikipedia Adventure to get the basics of editing down. I saw you have been doing counter-vandalism work which is a big plus. However, I would like to see you edit constructively for six months before accepting you into the program with no blocks. I hope this helps. Interstellarity (talk) 11:47, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
I noticed that you did not link the user names to the user pages in your "List of admins without recent logs" so they will not neccessarily know about the discussion. Have you notified the admins you listed? Would you like me to do it for you (using Wikipedia:Mass message senders)?
I ask because you write at the start of the section "This reduces the number of administrators that probably have no use for the tools", so if you have not ask them, why not ask them if they have use for the tools? -- PBS (talk) 20:18, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
OK, that was really just a report reference, so I didn't bother - it's fine if they have been; the discussion isn't really "about" any of these people (as what would be in or not in scope of a future change wasn't even defined yet) - it is about the policy. If we had a discussion about other policies we normally wouldn't summon anyone who could be impacted. — xaosfluxTalk21:17, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Also note, that report is not guaranteed to be all inclusive - it was a quick dump from quarry, and likely has some false negatives regarding the topic at hand. — xaosfluxTalk21:18, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi
You changed one of my edits a couple of days ago on the Fort Zumwalt South High Page
You might remember that one of the changes I made was that I changed the school picture to a weird picture of a bulldog
I was just wondering if you laughed or smiled at all when you saw that weird-looking dog as the picture of the school — Preceding unsigned comment added by IcyKrippler (talk • contribs) 14:25, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
@IcyKrippler: This is not an appropriate question to ask on Wikipedia. Please do not attempt to vandalize Wikipedia. No matter how funny you thought it was, all it does is cause trouble and waste time. We are all here to build and develop an encyclopedia and please don't try to cause trouble on Wikipedia. Thank you, Interstellarity (talk) 15:01, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
I am willing to bet good money tho that you did chuckle just a little bit
And also i was trying to insert a cool picture of a fierce-looking bulldog which is the school's mascot but for some reason, the weird one was inserted
You've got mail!
Hello, Interstellarity/Archives/2020. Please check your email; you've got mail! Message added 02:31, 21 January 2020 (UTC). It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
Intersetllarity, the reply (you raised some questions) but also stated something bout "mail was hacked and asked me not to answer" - I am a little bit confused. Pls clarify. CASSIOPEIA(talk)03:56, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
@CASSIOPEIA: I initially asked you the question about whether this user was a good candidate for CVUA. I asked to ignore the question because the user was blocked for sock puppetry. Interstellarity (talk) 10:59, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello Clachat, I think I put the wrong reason for declining the submission. The references you provided rely on one source. I would like to see more references that are independent, reliable, and discuss the topic in detail. I'll go ahead and change my decline reason now. Interstellarity (talk) 17:43, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
@Arupkamal: Since you state that he is your uncle, you have what's called a conflict of interest (read the article for more info) which means you know the subject personally. It is strongly discouraged to edit about people who are close to you because the information you add may be biased. If your uncle is paying you to edit, you will need to make a note on your user page stating that. Instead, you will need a make an edit request on the article's talk page stating your request using the {{request edit}} template. Interstellarity (talk) 18:16, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
