Mortal Kombat: Deception and tables

Hello Beemer69. I was wondering if you think the Mortal Kombat: Deception#Characters could be turned into a table to make it easier to distinguish who are the newcomers with notes. Also, I've been wondering but most of the fighting franchises character list have huge tables that feel like undue weight (MK's one is 160!) which could easily be explained in prose. Hey, thanks for looking me up. Yeah, I've thought about that for some time in regards to Deception but was too lazy to ever act on it. :') The character chart is OK for the time being, but I'm going to experiment with the merging of MK3/UMK3 and MK4/Gold together in order to reduce the number of boxes (since only a few characters were added to both upgrades) then accordingly making a few tweaks in notes. The biggest issue I have with the list as a whole is all the unregistered newbies chucking wrong note numbers into the boxes, which are often hard to trace. sixtynine • speak up • 00:55, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Dave Schwartz

The way you were trying to do it, while laudable, would have created another entry in the Wiki dex for someone that already existed there. The problem is traffic related and his original profile was not deleted correctly. I fixed the traffic problem but the dead subject article (no pun intended) remains. I will let someone else fight about that and clean it up. Prefer not to get involved when the kids fight over what needs to be deleted and what doesnt and who gets to do it. RE:Footballers

Hi sixtynine,

Thank you for your message, no need to apologize.

I believe that the major issue about footballers' biographies, apart from the risk of fanboyism, is their structure: in the Italian edition of Wikipedia we had long and thorough discussions about this topic, and we realized that the Career section must not have too many paragraphs (for example, Buffon's career with Juventus now has two subsections only). We also try to make sure that the page doesn't overcome a weight of 125 kB (I think the longest football biography on it.wiki is Roberto Baggio's one, which is 135 kB). This isn't a definitive solution, because a lot of new or unregistered users still write about every single goal that a player has scored, but at least the articles are more manageable. In other words, we are preferring quality over quantity by applying the ten-year test and WP:NOTSTATS.

As I wrote on Sadsadas' talk page, one of these days I will ask WikiProject Football's opinion about it.

Talking about enormous biographies, on it.wiki we cronically struggle to mantain some order in Messi and Ronaldo's articles, and it looks like en.wiki suffers from the same issue (Ronaldo's articles weighs an astonishing 258 kB).
On the one hand, it's natural that extremely popular players have a lot of supporters who contribute to their articles (not to mention that en.wiki is by far the most "international" wiki); also, footballers like Messi and Ronaldo break records almost every week, so it's not easy to make their articles shorter; but, even so, there's a lot of redundant information: for example, I think it's unnecessary to mention contract extensions, because they're not relevant in the long term, and it's unlikely that a player stays with his team until the contract expires.
Also, for what regards international matches, I think there's sometimes too much information about qualifiers: if a player reaches the final phase of the World Cup with his national team, then there's no need to extensively describe what happened during the qualifying stage.
As you correctly pointed out, some of these articles really look like books, rather than pages of an encyclopedia. I have to say, though, that most of them seem very well written and sourced, so quality is not an issue, but reading them shouldn't take two hours each. In my opinion, a good example of how a football biography should be like is Gianni Rivera's one. --Dan Kenshi (talk) 23:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Tekken Characters

The source you're deleting from Gaming Target should be reliable, since the article is written by Matt Swider, who has worked for several other reliable publications, like GamePro, UGO.com, GamesRadar and Machinima.com.

Also, I don't agree with your merges of some of the Tekken character articles (especially considering the current size of the character list article), such as the ones for Lee Chaolan and Bryan Fury. I might revert them, then we can discuss it? Kokoro20 (talk) 05:30, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hey. I've been redirecting some of the individual articles (at the risk of bloating the main character one, but I've been working on paring that down a little as well) due to what I felt was a lack of notability. They were mostly unsourced original research, bloated costume descriptions and game guide-style content, capped off with minuscule reception sections consisting mainly of de rigueur top-ten lists. The request to expand Lee's reception section went ignored for three years. I searched for additional content on these particular characters but couldn't find anything noteworthy. (I can't find it now to save my life but there was a listing of gaming sources here that were deemed either viable or not viable upon user review.) I admit I probably did jump the gun on Lee and Bryan Fury and won't argue if you ultimately opt to put them back, because you're more experienced than I am with editing VG content, but on the other hand, the likes of Raven, Bob, and Ganryu have threadbare storylines and next to no reception. sixtynine • speak up • 06:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, original research and game guide material isn't necessarily a reason for a merge. But I'll ahead and re-instate their articles. I think Bob could get away with having his own article too. I've seen quite a bit of reception for him as well. But I won't revert you on that one quite yet. I'm not sure about Raven and Ganryu.

UAA reports on users with no edits

Hi there,

Per the instructions at the top of WP:UAA, please don't report usernames for accounts that have not yet edited. Doing so creates unnecessary work for the admins and UAA clerks, and only advertises names that would otherwise become quickly buried and present no further issues. @Juliancolton: I'm hardly the only one who's been reporting usernames with no edits (which I've done for some time with no issues suddenly until now), so I think you're being a bit harsh with me here. Well, yes, but the notes are left to inform users about why their reports have been rejected – in this case, I've explained my reasoning to you personally (and posted the templated comments on several of your reports yesterday). I thought my original message was very pleasant, and not "harsh" in any way. I was disappointed to see that you ignored my message and continued to report inactive accounts, without explaining why you thought my concerns were unjustified. As of late several admins, myself included, have been reaching out to frequent UAA patrollers to ask that they avoid reporting usernames with no edits; as Beeblebrox put it, "It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved." This ties up a lot of time that could be spent dealing with more pressing reports. Further, if a username is truly problematic – offensive, apparently promotional, misleading – then presumably we'd want as few editors and readers to be exposed to it as possible. Unfortunately, when an account with no edits gets reported to UAA, it makes its way into logs, edit histories, watchlists, and so on, where otherwise it would fall through the cracks and be visible only to the most vigilant patrollers. This seems to undermine the purpose of reporting and blocking a problematic username. I thank you for your response and consideration. – Juliancolton | Talk 01:55, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
Just to add my own input here, you are correct that you are not the only one doing this. That is why Julian, myself, and others have been reaching out to users who do it and asking them to please stop doing so. WP:UAAI contains the instructions that reporting users are expected to be familiar with, and has contained the instruction to wait until the user edits for about six and a half years, so this isn't anything new or just our opinons, neither is it personal. We are simply trying to reduce the number of reports that do not actually require administrator attention and would appreciate your help in accomplishing this.
