Thanks for letting me know; I always check to see what happens when I tag a page. I've only had a few declined, and most of them ended up deleted anyways (my talkpage has two examples). Glad that it could be salvaged after all; I'm not too great at content, so I generally do maintenance (although I am attempting to reconstruct Autobiography of a Geisha- I've gotten at least some of it done, but I need the book). Thanks!! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:33, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's good that you follow up! I generally like to let people know when I remove their speedy tags, even if I'm improving the article and the tags were, in fact, legitimate. I'm not very good at content either, but I do like to branch out from time to time. I looked at Autobiography of a Geisha -- it looks promising! There are some good sources out there that you might be able to use; tons of reviews and all. Good luck! — GorillaWarfaretalk18:06, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you decline my speedy request? The userpage was a copy of the actual article here; moreover, the user was blocked and it is likely no one will ever see the page again. See this for a similar rationale. :| TelCoNaSpVe :|18:21, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the tag because that tag is not applicable to that page. If you read it carefully, it says "This excludes the sandbox and the users' own user space". You need to be more careful in which pages you tag for deletion, and which criteria you use. I am going to delete the page, however, but under a different rationale. I suggest you review the criteria and are less hasty. You should not have that many declined speedies in such a short period of time. — GorillaWarfaretalk18:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. My apologies for being late on that one -- I had about half a response constructed and then had to leave for a few hours. I have closed the section as resolved, by the way. I think you did a pretty good job in helping him, for what it's worth. — GorillaWarfaretalk03:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GorillaWarfare, thank you for the fast answer to my problems. I have added now 2 citations from serious web sites (official sites of the Berlin government and the varieté-theatre Friedrichstadt Palast). I hope i have done it correctly. It seems rather hard to find English references as i have not been able to follow English papers during the time of the East German regime. But i hope the page should now get the o.k. of the community? I will appreciate your help should there be further approvements necessary! Sincerely Weissnicht (talk) 08:13, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
i have removed the tag sept. 4th. The next 2 weeks i am on holiday; please wait with actions untill i am back; thank you.
Hello. Please note that you accidentally placed this on my editor review, and not on my talk page. Respond here in the future, please. As for the article, it looks better. However there are stil a few problems. The "Distinction" section sounds pretty POV. You're going to want to provide citations for those facts. The article still needs more references, I think. It would be preferable to get some English references, but I see your point about difficulty finding them. If you could find more references to verify more of the information, that would be preferable. And I suggest using inline citations so that you can verify specific facts. — GorillaWarfaretalk12:16, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies
I've blocked a vandalism only account that showed up on my watchlist, later to see that you declined an AIV report. Please overturn the block if you feel it's necessary, (IMO to me it doesn't look like the user is here to contribute positively , which is why I blocked) but I'm off to bed now, so please do feel free. Thanks. Connormah (talk) 06:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, that's fine. I tend to try to give extra chances when I can, but I agree that with a username like that and with his contributions, it didn't look promising. I'm leaving the block as is. Cheers! — GorillaWarfaretalk06:58, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for your quick response, i wasn't sure if the db-a7 tag applied to this article or not, the article itself does imply some credibility. a chuckle i came across while researching this topic; if you search "ramon ayala grammy" on google, the most credible sources that come up are talking about "the mexican grammy winner who went to jail" for some drug offense. cheers, thanks again WookieInHeat (talk) 03:22, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's generally a good rule to not tag for speedy deletion if you have any doubt. If you're unsure, it's a great idea to check the relavent notability policy, which in this case is WP:BAND. If you're still unsure, prodding and AfD are usually better alternatives. And yeah, I did notice that when I was looking for sources too. Not exactly the cheeriest thing to be known for! — GorillaWarfaretalk03:24, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This issue is very famous in Sri Lanka. Family of Premakeerthi de Alwis has already published a book about this issue. And there is no fix evidence about two of this issue( it was done by Jvp Or Hudson) we should write this two issue . because there is policy that Wikipedia writings should balance. this two issues are very famous in Sri Lanka and i can get responsibility about accurate .
It may very well be famous -- I wouldn't know, as I'm not from Sri Lanka. However, Wikipedia has a policy that all information, particularly contentious material about people, must be from verifiablethird-party sources. Please do not continue to add this information unless you can find a source to cite that can back it up. If the issue is so famous, there will be references to back it up. However, until then, it sounds a lot like original research. — GorillaWarfaretalk06:21, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are two conversations going on Sri Lanka that it The murder has done by Hudson Samarasinghe or JVP. But there is no any fix judgment still . some of article is written Partial to Hudson and some of Partial to JVP. so we should put two of this discussion on Wikipedia or we should remove . --Wipeouting (talk) 15:04, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you're trying to say that there has been no official ruling on who committed the murder. That's fine. However, saying that the murder has been blamed on the JVP is okay because there are two reliable sources that blame the JVP for it. If you can find a reliable source (newspaper, magazine, book, news website, etc.) that blames the murder on Hudson Samarasinghe, then that too can be added into the article. I have re-added the information about the JVP because I think it is valuable to the article. Please start using edit summaries. Without them, your edits can easily be mistaken as bad faith. — GorillaWarfaretalk16:29, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:
If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.
I'm so tired, and I can't focus on my article anymore tonight. However, I wanted to come thank you for your assistance and advice regarding the article. It is greatly appreciated. Thanks again! MJ94 (talk) 05:48, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
GW-
I'm working on the US intervention in Panama in the Lehigh University Seminar on Intervention. I am looking for a mentor to help me out through this, are you interested?
Certainly, that's what I'm here for! Although I may not be able to help you too too much on content, as I'm not entirely familiar with that, I can make myself useful on the technical side of things. My preferred method of communication is on my talk page or on IRC if I'm on (nick is GorillaWarfare). I'm also available by email, although that is my least favorite of the three. Let me know what I can help you with! — GorillaWarfaretalk21:46, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
GorillaWarfare- I don't know if you saw my reply on my talk page. Are you interested in being my mentor for the GU De-Ba'athification article?Amfarr21 (talk) 02:10, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there- Thanks for the congrats on DYK. Honestly, I didn't expect that something like that would happen. In terms of the edits, I've had some other assignments recently, but I'm going to get to cleaning up the article after next week's class. I have a few assignments due between now and then, and since readers haven't left any grievances or suggestions on the discussion page, I'll read over the pages on the summary style, and see how I can incorporate that into the article. My worry would be that in the pursuit of making the article shorter that the reader would lose what I think are important details about the process. Amfarr21 (talk) 14:15, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! There is a delicate balance between having too much much information and being too long, and being a reasonable length and losing detail. However, keep in mind that with an article as long as yours, it's unlikely that a person would read through all those details at all. I would suggest reading WP:DETAIL. — GorillaWarfaretalk14:54, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey GorillaWarfare- I've done some thinking about shortening the article. I've gone over the article and moved a section to the top, and added wikilinks where they are appropriate. In terms of breaking down the article, I think I'm going to leave it as is. It's a complex policy with a long, complex history. I realize the text and prose is lengthy, and that a causal reader might not make it all the way through the article. However, my thought is that people deliberately looking for de-Ba'athification are not exactly casual readers. They may be, but my general thought is that those looking for an article on de-Ba'athification are a pre-selected group that also probably know what they are looking for and will just go to that section of the article. I'll keep monitoring the talk page to see if anyone else raises the length issue, and if at some point the Wiki community wants to split it up into several articles, I would be ok as long as the separations made sense. Right now, I like the article as a single unit, and for the purposes of my Public Policy Initiative contribution, I'm going to leave it as is. I will still be updating it, and will likely nominate it for GA over the Winter Break (which may very well involve shortening it), but as of now, my edits to it are basically complete. Thank you for all your help with the article. It received DYK and is where it is because you helped me with it. Amfarr21 (talk) 16:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was just looking at the former page for Greg Muender, which notes that you deleted it. I wanted to see why it was deleted, but when I followed the "contribs" link there was nothing relevant in your contributions for that date and time. Could you please tell me if I have looked in the wrong place?
I apologize for whatever violations I may have done by posting in this fashion, but I am not a Wikipedia expert and am doing the best I can.
You didn't violate anything in posting in this fashion -- communication is a good thing! The reason it doesn't show up in my contributions is because deletions aren't done in the same way as an edit to a page. They show up in a different log. Mine can be found here, if you want to look through any. Deletion logs for other administrators can be found from the same page, by entering the administrator's username in the "User" box.
As for the Greg Meunder page, I don't believe a page by that title ever existed... I don't see it in my deletion logs, and there seems to be no history of a deletion by any other administrator. Are you sure that that is the exact title of the article? Let me know, and I'll try to figure it out for you. Cheers! Also, please sign any talk page posts with ~~~~. — GorillaWarfaretalk13:13, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since the last one went AWOL...
I'm still amused by how Jjlome came out of hibernation to respond to the adoption request and now has gone back to hibernating... December 11 2009 --> September 25 2010. Anyway, would you be interested in adopting User:BlackImperial? Or if you're interested in geography, you may be interested in adopting User:BCLH. or if you're interested in orders, medals, and the Bunyoro kingdom, you may be interested in adopting User:Skibden (I should come up with a slogan... no matter what your interests are, there's bound to be a match at adopt-a-user! =P) . More information regarding each user is available at User:Netalarm/Survey. Thanks. Netalarmtalk03:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, that was very bizarre... I'd be happy to have another adoptee. It appears that BlackImperial has already been offered adoption by another user, so between the two I'd go with Skibden. BCLH requests an adopter who also speaks Spanish, and, although I can communicate on a basic level, I doubt that's what s/he's looking for. I'll go put a note on Skibden's user talk page. Thanks again for matchmaking -- hope I have better success with this one! Also, I like the slogan :D — GorillaWarfaretalk03:46, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's weird...BlackImperial submitted the request today (or yesterday, time zone confusion)... Ah.... the wonders of Wikipedia that one can never understand. Users coming out of hibernation to request adoption - and going back to hibernation, users requesting adoption when they were offered one, hmmm... I think I'll tag BlackImperial as done with WikiCopter. Netalarmtalk04:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible that BlackImperial doesn't know that he's been offered adoption... WikiCopter didn't post anything on BlackImperial's talk page and the edit to the user page would easily go unnoticed... — GorillaWarfaretalk04:10, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ANI
Hey Gorilla, I don't know if you looked at the deleted article, and at the diff I placed on the talk page. An article is made for a specific person with a claim that's potentially hurtful, embarrassing, what not--that she was dating a mass murderer--backed up by a statement on that murderer's talk page that appears to be supported by sources. I wanted it gone before it started showing up elsewhere, mirrors and such, and that's why I posted the note on ANI. You know that those things can go fast, and you know that sometimes it takes a while for someone to get through the stack of CSDs. I hope that explains my posting. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 04:58, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is legitimate reasoning. If I were you, though, I probably would have tagged the article with {{db-attack}}. This category is pretty carefully monitored and quickly dealt with. — GorillaWarfaretalk05:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You know what, I should have thought of that. But I didn't think of that immediately and got carried away, I guess, when I found that line in the other article (esp. since it seems, in part from all the REVDEL requests, that we are treating BLP violations more seriously than before). Anyway, all's well that ends well; thanks for your note and for the advice! Drmies (talk) 05:10, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, GorillaWarfare. You have new messages at Skibden's talk page. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Hi there GorillaWarfare! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.
On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.
Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.
Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.
Hello Netalarm! Just letting you know I've adopted Eternal Eclipse. I don't know how you like to go about archiving your survey page or whatever, but I'll leave that up to you. Thanks again for facilitating! My two new adoptees seem to be quite a bit more active than jjlome, haha. — GorillaWarfaretalk17:13, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I saw the messages directly above the talkback I left on your page and want to let you know that I don't share the same sentiment. I think your work in Adopt-a-User is admirable and perfectly worthwhile. The adoption area is basically at a standstill without your work, and yet it's a very important part of Wikipedia. Keep up with the good work! — GorillaWarfaretalk17:16, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Terrific! Consider it done, then. Do you want to tell me a little about yourself? What are you hoping to learn from me? What types of maintenance, if any, are you interested in becoming involved with? Why are you putting yourself up for adoption -- do you just want to improve as an editor or are you interested in eventually getting other user rights?
Also, I was looking through your contributions and I must say, for such a new account you really have a grasp on creating articles! The first edit you made (creating Remains of the Gods) is quite impressive -- you've included wikilinks, good sections, even an infobox! It's quite well done. One thing I might suggest is adding a critical reception section, although I'm having a bit of trouble finding reviews by reliable sources. If you could find some way to add more meat to the article, that would be good. One thing I like to do for inspiration on album articles is look at other articles on albums. I often look at Indestructible (Disturbed album) because it's a good article that's well-developed. Great start though! — GorillaWarfaretalk15:11, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One last thing -- looking through your contributions I saw that you uploaded File:Originalhero.jpg. Great job on the licensing and all! Just remember to fill in the Article= field. Also, where it says "Use=", you entered "Header". I changed it to "Infobox", as this is a more descriptive name. That's just nitpicky, though, so I wouldn't worry about it. I fixed both for you, but for future reference remember to fill in the Article= field! Keep up the good work! — GorillaWarfaretalk18:54, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm still learning how to add sources and information. Currently I;m just trying to learn the script language all of the boring stuff. I haven't added any sources or references due to I'm still working on formatting them and other things. I was wondering how could you add another album cover to an article. The one I just uploaded recently has been the original copy. The before was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Herocyclecover.png. Could you guide me through and help me add it as an extra album cover? I've tried multiple times and can't seem to get the coding right and about me. Wow, I always have trouble with these things. I'm a senior in high school. I aspire to be a tattoo artist in the future and as you already know I love metal. I don't really care much for the rights. I just want to improve myself as an editor in whole. What I want to learn from you? That one is tough. I guess everything that'll help me to become an established editor here on wikipedia. Also thanks for fixing my mistake on Originalhero.jpg. --☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK23:39, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One thing I always suggest for adding sources is RefTools. If you go into your preferences, you can enable it in your gadgets. It's really useful in adding sources, and you don't have to wrestle with complicated citation templates. As for adding an alternate album cover, it can be done in the infobox. This is detailed here. Hope that's helpful enough! If you need more help, give me a buzz. As for what you want to learn from me, let's figure it out as we go along! — GorillaWarfaretalk02:10, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll be sure to take note of that. I added some album reviews to the Light This city albums. couldn't find much sites that treviewed them though also added the alternate album cover to the hero cycle. I'm trying to add more info to the articles , but I can't seem to find any good sources.--☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK10:16, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to see you're only using the reviews coming from reputable sites such as Allmusic. Some people will find every review ever written, even by obscure hobbyist bloggers. Good work! You may continue having trouble finding good sources for these articles, as, as far as I can tell, they're not incredibly well known. — GorillaWarfaretalk15:25, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. Finding sources has been a continuing issue for me. Can you use reviews as sources? I can't seem to find s single information page about the albums or the band. Except their official myspace and I don't know If I could use that as a reliable source. --☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK23:58, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Try reading up at Identifying reliable sources. Lots of good information to be had there. Reviews can be used as sources, as long as they're from reliable sources. Like I said earlier, some obscure hobbyist blogger shouldn't be used as a reference, but something like Allmusic could be. Also: beware of reputable sources that contain information that isn't published by the source itself. Sometimes user comments can masquerade as reliable content. As for using the MySpace, check out Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves. — GorillaWarfaretalk00:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I'll be sure to read it. BTW do you have a email or messenger of some sorts I could use to contact you? I think I already doubled your talk page. xD --☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK00:14, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. If you prefer it i'll keep spamming this page. I have a question what's the standard Template format for Musician/ Band Articles? I keep seeing different formats around wiki. --☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK03:19, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Whichever you prefer. As for the template format... do you mean the infobox? If you look at each infobox's template page, it usually says. Template:Infobox musical artist is for all non-classical musicians (individual and group). Classical musicians usually don't have infoboxes, as consensus decided it was counterproductive. See the reasoning. What other formats have you seen? — GorillaWarfaretalk15:12, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I believe you mean the navbox. I don't know much about them, but I've done some poking around. A good place to look for information like this is at the WikiProject of whichever subject you're interested in. The applicable one here is WP:WikiProject Musicians. There are some pretty good guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Navbox regarding the subject. Again, let me know if that's insufficient. I can try to learn more if you need to know more. — GorillaWarfaretalk02:12, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really having trouble finding sources and when I do usually it's not really considered reliable. As you said previously I could use the band's site/myspace for some information if it fits in certain criterias. Any Tips? --☣EternalEclipse☣ TALK01:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! It's explained at Wikipedia:RS#Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves. Basically, you could use a band's MySpace (make sure it's their official MySpace, not a fan's) to find information such as the date the band formed, the names of their albums, the band members, etc. Generally not information that would even need citation, necessarily. If it's anything that they would be likely to exaggerate or make up, it should not be used. Hopefully the guidelines there help. Let me know if you have more questions regarding that! — GorillaWarfaretalk02:11, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have started an RfC on inappropriate userboxes, i.e. those that don't follow the introductory paragraph at WP:UBX:
"A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX) is a small colored box ... designed to appear only on a Wikipedian's user page as a communicative notice about the user, in order to directly (or even indirectly) help Wikipedians collaborate more effectively on articles."
How does a userbox about a user's own preferences in regards to what topics on Wikipedia they hate and what type of sexually explicit material they like and actively view help Wikipedians collaborate with one another? Which is the question I am raising.
This introductory paragraph over at WP:UBX contradicts WP:NOTCENSORED so I'd like you to weigh in at WT:UBX, it'll only take 5 minutes of your time. I've sent this message because the topic has not had much community input
Seriously - that Frozen North Productions vs. Emily Schooley war today (which I suspect is not yet over) ought to go down in some sort of record book. In hindsight, I shouldn't have involved myself, but I had no idea it would get so out of control so quickly... Thanks for doing your part to help take care of it. :) -Addionne (talk) 23:27, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea what is going on over there, goodness. Those SPAs are really coming out of the woodwork... I threw a "not a ballot" tag on there, though, and block User:Frnnrthprd for repeated unconstructive edits. I may end up username blocking as well... Also weirdness over at User talk:Deepsix66. I blocked the IP for legal threats. Anyway, cheers, and we'll see how it plays out. I know I'm sure as hell not going to be the admin to close that AfD. — GorillaWarfaretalk00:08, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you blocked Frnnrthprd (talk·contribs). I, given this, which is BLP vandalism, the username issue, and the fact that the account has done not one whit of content work outside of the relevant articles, would have been thinking of a simple indefinite block. It's your call, though.
What think you of this? Consideration for the article subject (if that is the article subject) is one thing, but that's exactly what we don't want, here: one of the protagonists, in whatever external issue this is, coming to Wikipedia and threatening other editors with legal action. I'm thinking at the moment of issuing a final warning. Your thoughts? Uncle G (talk) 00:49, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've been considering an indef block for a while, and think I will go through with it. He can request an unblock if he needs, but this has been way out of control. Actually, after thinking a little more, I think I'll go the final warning route. As for the comment on the talk page, I will reply there and on the user's page. I'll give a warning, for sure. Thanks so much for alerting me to this! — GorillaWarfaretalk00:51, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I fully intend to. I had about 10 tabs open with "sources" for the company when I !voted on Emily, but then RL struck. I still can't decide if they're sufficient... I'll get there eventually! Bigger digger (talk) 23:52, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.
Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.
Just a note to say thanks for coming by and looking at my article on Stars and Stripes 87. I am looking at some of what was done to try to develop some idea of how it is formated. It will be a big learning curve for such a small article, and I do appreciate your concerns over whether or not it would even be considered noteworthy enough to warrant a page. I've been thinking about trying to say something for her for a couple of years and will give it a go. Regardless of whether she swims or sinks, I very much appreciate your coming by and helping with it.
I did find that the New Zealand 12 Meter "Kiwi Magic" (KZ 7), the fiberglass hulled boat that Stars and Stripes 87 defeated in the Louis Vuitton Cup (challenger series) finals, has a page in Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gunbirddriver (talk • contribs) 08:35, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Does Stars and Stripes 87 meet notability requirements on her own though?"
Well, that is the key question for me. There is a lot of information on the boat out there, most repeating things I said in the article. I just need to round up the references and buttress the story.
Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Stagecraft Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!
New Look
As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.
Colour scheme All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page. At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
Templates
All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed one was missing. We have now added the new template in the form of:
{{WPStagecraftWelcome}} - a welcome tag to be placed on the talk page of a new user.
{{WPStagecraft Newsletter}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month
Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis. The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page.
The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, Stage lighting. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.
And finally...
Thanks very much for reading down this far - hopefully future newsletters won't be this long! Please, if you can, invite new members and drop us a line over at the talk page to let us know what you think of the new look/newsletter and any suggestions you may have.
You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. If (like most of the old WikiProject) this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the Participants list and also click here to stop receiving the newsletter.
To stop receiving this newsletter, or to receive it in a different format, please let us know here. To view previous editions of the newsletter, click here. If you have any news or any announcements to be broadcast, do let us know on the talk page.
Hello. You were listed on the page of people who can recover deleted articles for others. Can you please help me recover an article called "List of protest songs" which was deleted on 17 April 2007?
There were hundreds of songs relating to categories such as labor, civil rights, feminism, environmentalism, homophobia, peace, etc. It was a rich collection which many people had worked on, but all of the information is now lost to the internet. Since the information appears to be unsuitable for wikipedia, I'm hope to create an alternate site to host and grow it.
How's your Online Ambassador experience going so far?
Hi GorillaWarfare/Archive 3,
We're starting to get into the busy part of the semester for Online Ambassadors, and we want to check in and see how you're doing, what your opinions about where we are now, and any feedback you may have.
Please answer these questions either on my talk page or send them to me by email.
1. How many mentees are you currently working with?
2. Have you reached out to students who don't have mentors yet? If not, would you be willing to?
3. What do you think of the content of messages on the Google Group?
4. What do you think of the volume of messages on the Google Group?
5. Do you participate on the Google Group much? If not, what would make you participate more?
6. Are there any problems you've experienced so far?
7. Is there anything else Sage or the rest of the Public Policy Initiative team could do to make your experience as an Online Ambassador better?
8. Are you okay sharing your username with your answers to our Public Policy Initiative team, or would you prefer to remain anonymous?
This is just a ping to let you know that I mentioned your name in my reply to Bejinhan's !vote on my RfA. Not trying to stir up trouble, as in fact I have apologized twice now for speaking clearly (but very civilly). Tks. • Ling.Nut (talk) 04:08, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please pardon the intrusion. This tin of thanks spam is offered to everyone who commented or !voted (Support, Oppose or Neutral) on my recent RfA. I appreciate the fact that you care enough about the encyclopedia and its community to participate in this forum.
There are a host of processes that further need community support, including content review (WP:GAN, WP:PR, WP:FAC, and WP:FAR). You can also consider becoming a Wikipedia Ambassador. If you have the requisite experience and knowledge, consider running for admin yourself!
If you have any further comments, input or questions, please do feel free to drop a line to me on my talk page. I am open to all discussion. Thanks • Ling.Nut (talk) 02:21, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Happy GorillaWarfare's Day!
GorillaWarfare has been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, so I've officially declared today as GorillaWarfare's Day! For being a great person and awesome Wikipedian, enjoy being the star of the day, GorillaWarfare!
I noticed you are a member of WP:WSW, perhaps you can help me. I posted this on the WSW talk page and it has set kinda forgotten for the past few days. What I am asking is a spoken version of the GA/FA/TFA article Stephens City, Virginia. The Stephens City page hasn't been touched in days and I don't expect it to (unless a bot comes by), so the wording won't change, but I would like to have a "final touch" if you will of having it all spoken by word...and I was wondering if you could do that or know someone who could. If you need help with any of the pronunciations of any of the words, please let me know, I will be glad to help, but I don't think you find any tricky ones on there. Take Care...Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:38, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it. I was discussing this with User:Daedalus969 and he is of the same mindset. I was going to stick to a 31-hour one, but I'm not against you bumping it up. He doesn't seem like he's about to start editing constructively. — GorillaWarfaretalk06:03, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The above is indeed true; we were discussing this over irc, and I would agree with an indef based on the edit summaries; in my opinion, clear troll who only deserves WP:RBI.— DædαlusContribs06:05, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't worry too much about it. There isn't really anything controversial in there, and if anything is desperately needed, an administrator can retrieve it. I also did some minor cleanup, by the way. — GorillaWarfaretalk22:51, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That looks great! Now is that a complete list? Also, there are quite a few redlinks in it -- are you planning on creating articles for them? If so, are they notable enough for their own article? If not, then they should be unlinked or perhaps removed from the list. However, if it's a complete list, I think you can leave them there but unlink them so as to keep it complete. As for the two images at the top (the flag and coat of arms), why are they included in the article? I assume you included them because the list is about Denmark ribbons, but the flag and coat of arms themselves are not particularly relevant. Perhaps a photograph of a real ribbon (not a computer-generated one) would be more effective? I'm not sure if a photo of one exists on Wikipedia, but perhaps there is one that could be found. I would suggest removing the two photos, though, because it's a bit confusing. If you feel they must be kept, then I would suggest floating them to the right of the text so that they are not disrupting the text flow. Great job on the list, though! — GorillaWarfaretalk19:52, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, well if you want to keep them, go for it. However, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the centered photos pushing the text down... But if you like it, go for it. I looked through MOS:IMAGES and WP:LAYOUT and didn't really see anything regarding it, so it's probably not a problem. However, I could also be missing something. I would suggest stacking them to the right side of the page, though, just for aesthetic reasons. Captions should probably be added as well. If you decide to stack them, you can use:
{{multiple image
| direction = vertical
| width = 100
| image1 = Flag of Denmark.svg
| caption1 = Flag of Denmark
| image2 = National Coat of arms of Denmark.svg
| caption2 = National Coat of Arms of Denmark
}}
The way the article is now, it will push into the first section just because it's a bit long. However, if the lede gets longer, as I imagine it will as the article is developed, that will no longer be an issue. — GorillaWarfaretalk20:58, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Re:Checking in
Hello. You have a new message at Eternal Eclipse's talk page.
I'm very busy lately and may not have time to review this article promptly. Perhaps you would rather ask on IRC, where other editors could help you? I will try to review it, but it may be at least several days. Also, please sign your talk page posts by adding ~~~~~ after them. — GorillaWarfaretalk23:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please see my comments at User talk:Sambhar. This user is definitely a spammer. You only have to look at the HTML sources on all 5 websites pushed by this user to see they are all written by the same person using the same toolset. They are 100% certifiable spam and the user should be banned. --Biker Biker (talk) 18:05, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point. However, I believe you want them to be blocked and not banned. Let's wait until the user responds to JamesBWatson's question and see what he has to say. It could be good faith. — GorillaWarfaretalk21:04, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You both agree it is spamming based on the information that I added after your initial AGF call, yet neither of you want to ban the spammer? I'm finding this a little frustrating, especially when I try my best to keep Wikipedia clean. --Biker Biker (talk) 21:15, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, I suggest you read about bans vs. blocks -- they're different things that are confusing when used interchangeably. Second, if you read about blocks, it says that "Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users." If this user looks like he or she will be disruptive again, both JamesBWatson and I have said that we'll be happy to block. For now we are making sure that we are not blocking someone who simply does not understand Wikipedia policy. The user only got a single warning for his or her actions, and has not edited since. I'm confused as to why you are so hell-bent on blocking a user who very well may have been mistaken about Wikipedia editing policy and, for all we know, has read the warning and changed his or her actions. — GorillaWarfaretalk21:24, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Homo spaciens
Thank you for responding to my help request. I am trying to publish the article Homo Spaciens, but it seems that misunderstandings are arising on its content and definetly I believe the criteria for its deletion is wrong. The main reason I say this is because the term "Homo Spaciens" is a very commonly used term in the space exploration field, similar to space colonization, space settlement, and others (by the way all of these terms are published in wikipedia). Therefore, I encourage its publication. My question is to whom I have to address this issue. Thank you. Homospaciens (talk) 17:32, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, are there any reliable, online sources that could describe this? It is not necessary for there to be any, but it is much easier to verify. I quickly Googled it and only see an obscure company with the same name. Second, have you reviewed WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary? That could be very helpful. WP:What Wikipedia is might also be useful. And finally, to address your concerns, you can voice them at the AfD page for that article. Be sure to identify yourself as the creator/main contributor to the article if/when you add anything. Best of luck, and I'm here for any further questions you may have. — GorillaWarfaretalk19:52, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear GorillaWarfare, thank you, really, for responding my questions. I have added three online external references (see links below in the article) from reliable sources (articles from the Washington Post, from the European Space Agency, and from John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences) that prove that, Homo Spaciens, is a term commonly used in the field of space exploration to explain our future evolution. Then, this is not an original thought, nor a review, or an invention, and it's been there since many years. Therefore, I am asking if it's possible to change these positions (from editors) of recommending its deletion. Thank you. Homospaciens (talk) 19:46, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've mentioned this at the article for deletion page. I think that's about all you can do -- if the editors choose to change their minds, then so be it. Other than that, it's up to consensus to decide. I worry that the sources you provided only mention the term in passing... Also, it still seems to be essay-like and against WP:NOTDICT. — GorillaWarfaretalk20:11, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Next time some idiot is messing things up using Research In Motion's proxies, use a short-term range block. Maybe the idiot will back off during the block, and a range block is the only way to deal with ISPs and proxy pools where users frequently hop proxies. It is likely that RIM is doing load balancing. Jesse Viviano (talk) 13:02, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I just saw it as I was going through some articles and decided to fix it. Also, have you considered creating an account? I see User:Proofreader Foof is unregistered, maybe you could take that one! Either way, you should sign your posts by typing ~~~~ after them. — GorillaWarfaretalk22:45, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Just be careful: Editors who use unlinked alternate accounts, or who edit as an IP separate from their account, should carefully avoid any crossover on articles or topics, because even innocuous activities such as copy editing, wikifying, or linking might be considered sock puppetry in some cases and innocuous intentions will not usually serve as an excuse. from WP:Sockpuppetry. Carry on! — GorillaWarfaretalk01:40, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Help with Colombo vandal
Hi! I see you've intervened in the past to stop the Origin theories of Christopher Columbus vandal user:CuriousColonal. His only activities are to disrupt sourced and established references and content with his fanciful material (I suspect he is the one who has written the books - if you can define them such; "sf novels" would be a better definition - he propagandates) about fanciful stories about Columbus' origin. Can you help? Ciao and thanks. --'''Attilios''' (talk) 09:54, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the user is currently blocked, and will be for a few more hours. Because what the user has been adding is not blatant vandalism, it's considered more of a content problem. If he continues adding this, perhaps it would be worth a trip to the WP:Content noticeboard, where other users can weigh in on the actual information he's been adding. I hope at least the block will stop him from edit warring. — GorillaWarfaretalk15:51, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ciao... thanks for the intervention. I think the matter is that his interventions stink of propaganda. I find it suspect that he insists on the same phant-archaeology book by that (I think) Mauro da Silva. I doubt it can be he himself... you cannot use the WHOIS feature? Ciao and thanks again. --'''Attilios''' (talk) 16:01, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am just an administrator, not a checkuser. And even if I was, this wouldn't really warrant that kind of action. Even if I did use WHOIS, it most likely wouldn't turn up more than his ISP and general location. — GorillaWarfaretalk16:27, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
