User talk:GordyB/Archive 2YorkshireismsI find it strange that you have cut out words that you have never heard of, but have put in words that you have personally heard. It is one-sided, and a POV. If everyone did that, there would be about five words in the article. andreasegde 00:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC) Apart from the long list you took out, are you really saying that "As bold as brass" is not a Yorkshireism? I beg to differ, Sir. I also noticed that you are adding in some of your own. "Boro" is just a short form of Middlesborough. Think on... andreasegde 09:43, 16 August 2006 (UTC) Any comments? andreasegde 15:44, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Limerick RugbyYou asked about GAA and Rugby in Limerick. While Rugby is big in Limerick, it is still dwarfed by Hurling. Munster Rugby games get 15,000 crowds max (usually only maybe 5,000) while Limerick hurling games get 30,000 to 55,000 or upwards depending on what game it is. On top of that, the sheer number of players of both sports in Limerick are on different scales. You might have 3,000 Rugby players max, while there would be upwards of 20,000 hurlers in County Limerick.Niall123 00:51, 12 August 2006 (UTC) All BlacksDude, the team is called the All Blacks. Sorry, my mistake. I came to the page via a redirect from Comparison of American football and rugby, saw some apparently incomplete references to rugby league, and thought I could fill in some gaps. I didn't notice the actual page title.
Ah ok, I thought that the discussion was leading to relegating Category:Rugby union in Ireland to a subcategory of Category:Sport in Northern Ireland while excluding rugby union in Category:Sport in Ireland for some reason. I agree that it should a subcat of both, so I think we're on the same page; the misunderstanding probably stemmed from my not knowing that Category:Rugby union in Ireland was already a subcategory of Category:Sport in Ireland. As is with everything involving Northern Ireland, I can see how things have become confusing. Thanks for the message! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 15:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC) FootballThanks for the message Gordy. I just checked the page out, made a few edits, though it may need further. Most notably I removed that football may refer to AFL or rl in Africa, which really is too far. But yeah. Cvene64 14:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC) Help fight systematic biasDear Gordy, I would like to draw your attention to the discussion currently ongoing at Talk:Popsicle. Or would you prefer the discussion for Move proposal 3 be formally closed first? GringoInChile 12:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Twickenham StadiumHi Gordy, I was wondering if you could give Twickenham Stadium a quick read. The article is looking quite nice these days, so I thought we should put it up for a Good Article nomination, but I thought I'd see if you think there is anything notable/important that needs mentioning first. Cheers. Cvene64 18:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Leeds United ArticleHi. I'm considering editing the Leeds United article into a few smaller articles as when you click edit at the top now it say's it's too long plus the page seems too long in general to me anyway. You're one of the people registered as a wikipedian Leeds United AFC fan in the category that I thought I may get a serious response out of so I was wondering what your thoughts were on which sections should be moved to different pages and linked in the club page. I will do all of the work on this (unless you want to do some yourself) but I’m currently after a few peoples opinions so I can sort the page out on a general consensus. Thanks. --Chappy84 15:19, 26 September 2006 (UTC) Super 14 movesI see that you voted oppose on Talk: Blues (rugby team), saying all the names would need a disambiguate. If you exclude moving the Blues rugby article, the other three pages (Chiefs, Hurricanes, Highlanders) are all redirects, as the page Crusaders once was. Perhaps you might want to support these three moves, providing they have a header like the Crusaders Article?--HamedogTalk|@ 01:55, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
French finalsHi! I saw that you reverted the 1893 final of the French championship with racing as winners. But there was a mistake in the original article : Stade Français actually won, Racing were runner-up, so I'm reverting it again. Clck on the green links, you'll get details for each match. See here for the 1893 final. Cheers! Beru91 10:11, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Sheffield EaglesI'm not sure why you removed the bit about Barrow's support in the Sheffield Eagles article. For Eagles fans Barrow's backing was vital and has led to a strong relationship between the clubs since. Tim Fellows 16:56, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Proposal for rugby super leagueLeave your opinion on this[3] matter if you are interested. It is basically about the term rugby super league being used as a disambiguation for all rugby competitions by that or a similar name. Currently it is used as a page for the American RU competition, the rugby super league. --Ehinger222 12:33, 23 October 2006 (UTC) Swing Low Sweet ChariotComment added to the talk page Graemec2 14:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC) 2003 RWC finalHey Gordy, I posted a message about the article I have been working on for the breakaway 03 RWC final, found here, however I don't think anyone noticed, so do you think you could maybe give it a quick read for any errors or anything? However, some idiot has vandalised the site, removed pictures and wants to delete the whole entry. I am not an experienced Wiki author and don't understand why this prat would want to do this. Can you return the Harlow entry to how it was prior to the unwanted intervention and tell the guy who did it to sod off please? I read some of his talk page and it seems he is a serial deleter of new entries. If there was anything wrong with the Harlow site (I looked at loads of other entries before submitting the Harlow RUFC entry) then please advise although I assume you would have said something when yo edited before if anything was intrinsically wrong with it. Thankyou for your help and advice. UrquartXV 08:32, 15 November 2006 (UTC) On a distantly related point, thanks Gordy, for removing the sentence from UrquartXV's page. I genuinely did not appreciate the purpose of these pages. My apologies. Fouling footballYes it is played, although it was called docker soccer where I grew up (West Midlands). I presume this term goes back some way as none of us who played it understood (or were old enough to understand) the reference to dockers and its stereotypes and connotations. Have you any plans to start an article? Cdh1984 18:25, 9 December 2006 (UTC) All Blacks and announcements templateHey, was wondering if you could help look over All Blacks to find any problems with regards to submitting as WP:FAC. As well, I've created a template {{WPRU Announcements}} for WP:RU members userpages. You may want to take a look? Thanks. - Shudda talk 05:14, 31 December 2006 (UTC) Your recent edit regarding Hull KR beating the touring Aussies in 1967/8 brought back many golden memories for me. I was at that match, and indeed when they beat Hull FC in the Yorkshire Cup final in the same season. You may know that hooker Peter 'Flash' Flanagan has died recently. Both were stars at that time - and much later on - and two of the greatest players The Robins ever had. I added the {{Unreferenced}} stub recently; because the article really desperately needs some citations, references, footnotes, to bring it to an encyclopedic standard, rather than the present 'fan site' sort of status. Can you oblige - can I help ? - I have many fond recollections of the Rugby League club I followed avidly from my earliest years (I am 52 and rising now) - but these are largely worthless in this place. As you pointed out, the bot simply adding the WikiProject tag to articles in a selected list of categories. It seems inevitable that there's going to be some amount of "over-inclusion." ThanksWell done indeed on starting up the Cricket in England article!! It had been an absolutely glaring gap in our coverage of England-related topics. Can I just point out another, perhaps even more startling gap: we still do not have a Sport in England article. It was myself who initiated the Sport in Scotland article (which still needs an awful lot of work on several minor sports - although the football, rugby, motorsport and cycling sections are pretty good). I think I modelled it on Sport in Australia, but there are probably several other decent templates out there. England has a very distinctive sporting culture and heritage, which is highly significant on a global scale, and we are absolutely spoilt for choice in terms of WP:CITE and WP:RS. I am not being a lazy b'stard: I am very willing to do it myself, and have intended to, but I am not very time-rich at the mo, due to a new woman in my life ;) Cheers, and all the best. --Mais oui! 07:30, 18 February 2007 (UTC) National OneHi, I'm new to wikipedia editing. As a Wasps supporter I've been looking at National One in order to size up the opposition, and have found it wanting. Therefore I've been working on National Division One 2006-07, mostly getting a framework in place. Rugby LeagueGordy, How can: "to the irritation of the gentry who ran the game" be regarded as not nonesense? It sounds like a class war in its current form, and unless you can provide references and state actual facts, simply asserting that the "gentry" who "ran the game" were "irritated" by the success of "working class" teams is highly spurious. In its current form it is not a fact, but a vague statement that may have some degree of truth in it, but is so vague it is actually quite damaging to the article. If you could refine the point, with references, then you could get it in. I've reverted it until you can: 1. Provide actual facts rather than a vague statement. 2. Provide suitable references. rugby union forkI have converted Playing rugby union into a redirect. You had done this so badly that I though at first it was vandalism. The most important thing is that that the initial edit summary should have been something like "split off from rugby union article which is getting too big". This would have made it clear that your edit was intentional and would have preserved an audit trail to the dozens of people who had contributed to the article. You should also have deleted the text from rugby union. I suggest you get at least one other person to agree to the split by a note in talk:Rugby union before you do the job properly. -- RHaworth 17:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
OK. You have a mandate to do a split. So do it properly with clear edit summary and removal of duplicate text. -- RHaworth 17:21, 6 May 2007 (UTC) There is already an article relating to Wes Naiqama (WP:DA)..and thanks for archiving the WR:RU talk page, it was getting pretty long..Cheers..----Cometstyles 12:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC) |
