RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase IHey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Earlier All-Star game?Hey Gonzo. I've been doing some work to prove Dutch Clark was GM for 3 years and HC for 2 years (tough to find something stating he was GM in 1936), and I stumbled across a few things. I've found mentions of Detroit, champions for the 1935 season, playing an exhibition game against a set of All-Stars (see this section) on January 1, 1936. I found a few links from articles here: link 1, link 2, link 3 (page 16). I did some Googling to try to find more to support this, but ultimately had to turn to Newspapers.com, where I clipped these: Any thoughts on this? It looks like the "All-Star Game" may have started sooner than 1939. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:20, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

HoFer by franchiseHey Gonzo. One of my very first article creations back in the day was List of Detroit Lions in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which I've decided I want to work on and get up to featured list status. I'm using List of Green Bay Packers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an example to build off, and I was curious, did you add life-time All-Pro selections, or just selections while a player was with the team? My gut says to use the selections and awards received while with the team, as opposed to full career accomplishments. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:49, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of SafariScribe -- SafariScribe (talk) 18:44, 5 April 2024 (UTC) TFAThank you today for Bob Mann (American football), introduced (in 2020): "Bob Mann was an American football player in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was a star end (wide receiver in today's terminology) for the University of Michigan, where he teamed up with future Hall of Famer Len Ford to form a dynamic pass-catching duo. He entered the NFL with the Detroit Lions, where he played for two seasons. After a salary dispute, he was released and signed with the New York Yanks (not to be confused with the baseball team), although he never played for the team in the regular season. After being released by the Yanks, he claimed NFL owners blackballed him by all agreeing to not sign him. After a few months, the Green Bay Packers signed Mann, where he would play parts of five seasons until a knee injury ended his career. Mann would go on to become a lawyer in the Detroit area until he died in 2006. The quick overview above would make it seem like Mann was just another college football star who played in the NFL for a few seasons before professional football became what it is today. However, Mann's legacy goes far and above his statistics and physical abilities. Mann was a black player in football during a time of great racial prejudices. He broke the color barrier for both the Lions and Packers, he was cut by the Lions for not taking a pay cut (and possibly for supporting a boycott by the black community of a beer that he was a spokesperson for), even though he led the NFL in receiving yards the prior season. He was (arguably) blackballed by the NFL for his race and for not agreeing to take the pay cut from the Lions. Then he played for Green Bay, a town at the time that had only a handful of black residents. He has been called a pioneer for the dignified way he handled himself is such difficult situations."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:26, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

I actually had an idea to do promote List of Los Angeles Rams starting quarterbacks to featured list status, but I wasn't sure how to format it so that it would become one. I looked at List of Los Angeles Chargers starting quarterbacks, but it was difficult to arrange the list season by season due to the Ram's lengthy team history and like the Packers, it is hard to find win-loss record by starting quarterback prior to 1950. So your list gives me a template to follow for a team like the Rams that have a long history. I may try to promote the list sometime this year or next year. I'm still trying to get a few Oscar ceremony lists promoted. I will think about it heavily. Birdienest81talk 20:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Draft navbox namingHey Gonzo. I was looking at the draft navboxes, specifically the naming scheme, and I noticed an inconsistency. Following your lead of moving the Green Bay Packers navboxes to the format of "Green Bay Packers YYYY NFL draft picks", I moved the Lions ones to "Detroit Lions YYYY NFL draft picks". I noticed today however that there seems to be a naming scheme that 6 other navboxes follow. Looking at Category:National Football League 2023 draft navigational boxes, most of the titles are bunched up MascotYearDraftPicks, while six others leave out "NFL" from the title of the navbox. Examples:
Do you think we should have left "NFL" out of the titles when we made these moves? Hey man im josh (talk) 12:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

I was working on the Lions draft articles using yours as the templates. I noticed that you listed in Green Bay Packers draft history and Green Bay Packers draft picks (1970–present) that the 1998 supplemental draft pick of Mike Wahle caused the loss of the team's second-round pick in 1998. I think you made a typo and should be noting the loss of the pick under the 1999 draft table. The picks from supplemental drafts are taken from the next draft, but I can absolutely see how this mistake was made considering GB had no second-round pick in the 1998 draft (traded pick #29 and #60 to the Dolphins for pick #19). This also means that your note on the main history page will need to be tweaked. Note this link from the PFHOF which recaps the 1999 draft. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:03, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Need an opinionHey Gonzo. I've been hung up on the full Detroit draft pick lists for a few days because I've been considering removing the red names from the lists altogether. I don't think there's a reasonable expectation for most of them to ever be created, especially when PFR doesn't even have profiles on a lot of them. I've been finding it tough with some names to properly disambiguate, since we often use birth years if players are from the same position and have the same name, but I can't even find the birth years in some cases, leading to difficulty in disambiguating. Then I'm like, is this really even worth red linking anything here? I think it also leads to situations where an article for the same name gets created, if the name either isn't disambiguated or is simply disambiguated with (American football), and it could lead to a lot of these tables pointing to the wrong players over time. Thoughts? Hey man im josh (talk) 11:58, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Draft pick listsHey Gonzo, I just had a comment at one of my FLCs, and I noticed that I think you ran into the same issue I did... in Detroit Lions draft picks (1970–present), I currently have the {{main}} template below the images, because putting it above the images causes the images to start on a new line instead of the same one as the hatnote. Unfortunately, this is against MOS:SECTIONORDER, so I have to go through and fix it on my lists. Currently trying to figure out if there's a way for both to start on the same time, as this messed up the layout a bit if the images are bumped down on each occasion. However, I have run into a problem. Bob Waterfield played with the Rams starting in 1945, but as you have mentioned in List of Green Bay Packers starting quarterbacks and I have found out myself while researching on Pro Football Reference, the NFL only started recording the win-loss records for the starting quarterback beginning in 1950. So how will Waterfield be listed on the table since his career with the Rams began five season prior to the league began keeping track of a starting quarterbacks win-loss record? For the record, I am making changes over at User:Birdienest81/sandbox two, which will be transfered to the actual list when the rewrite is complete.

I'll concede & give you the option to put team wordmark logos in the infobox; just please don't remove the season wiki-links for each team in the infobox please. They have encyclopedic value. I don't wish to engage in an edit-war with you over it. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 20:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Could you please help me out?Hi. I'm posting here what I posted on FormalDude's page. Please forgive me for not being super Wiki-literate yet. I was just looking for some help and noticed that FormalDude isn't an admin so I found your page, Gonzo fan2007: Hi FormalDude. Could you take a look at the NYU Law Review's page? This user "Randykitty" for some reason feels the need to erroneously remove our logo from our page. You reversed him once already last year but he just removed the logo again (for the same reason you'd reversed him) claiming the logo isn't being used by the Law Review. Here is evidence of the Law Review using the logo that's on the Wiki page (that Randykitty will for some reason try to remove again): https://www.instagram.com/nyulawreview/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/nyulr/ https://twitter.com/nyulawreview Nyulrlogo (talk) 22:07, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Still, we're still only half-way done with adding "professional" and fixing "former Americans", and I still see the occasional "unneessary" reverts or new bios with old formats. Some editors just dont understand or care about MOS, and then there's some plain ol' anti-MOS. Someone used to regularly use a "guideline doesn't mean 'must'" retort to anything.
