Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of plagiarism incidents, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Verbatim (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

"This article's use of external links may not follow Wikipedia's policies or guidelines. Please improve this article by removing excessive or inappropriate external links, and converting useful links where appropriate into footnote references. (December 2013)"

Don't know if I'm asking this in the right place/way, please correct me if not. If the excessive links refer to recently added links to notable images by the artist who is the subject of this article, Polly Thayer Starr, they are temporary while I await open source permission for some of her images from the trustees of her estate. Would replacing them with images when I get permission solve the problem? Thanks. Dorothy Koval (talk) 15:52, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

@Dorothy Koval: Hi. First, thank you very much for starting the article on Polly Thayer Starr. I was quite glad to see it. The tag that I placed at the top of the article was for the links in the article that go to other websites. With few exceptions, external links like those are discouraged in the body of the article (WP:ELNO is the guideline). External links are good in the References and External links sections. I'm less concerned with the links in the 'Notable works' section than I am with the links like the one for Andre l’Hote that goes to his Tate biography. For those, we prefer use double brackets to link to the Wikipedia article for André Lhote, like this: [[André Lhote]]. Gobōnobō + c 16:05, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I tried a number of times to link to the Wikipedia article on André Lhote, but was unsuccessful, evidently because of something to do with the accent. Yours works fine, though, so I was probably inserting the accent wrong. For artists like Philip Hale, Harry Wickey, Carl Nelson and Beatrice Van Ness, who do not have Wikipedia pages even though they have made significant contributions, would it be better to leave out the links altogether or to put them in footnotes although they aren't exactly source material? (I suppose it would be best to write articles about them...eventually!) Dorothy Koval (talk) 04:06, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
@Dorothy Koval: Thank you for linking Lhote. If the links aren't source material, they should probably be excluded. The link to A Studio of Her Own: Women Artists in Boston 1870-1940 could be converted into a reference though. For the artists who don't yet have Wikipedia pages but are significant enough to meet notability criteria, a good option is to link the name anyhow. This will make a red link, ala Beatrice Van Ness, that will signify that an article doesn't yet exist but could someday. Gobōnobō + c 14:01, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
I linked Van Ness and Thayer's father, Ezra Ripley Thayer. It looks like User:KyCour has drafted an article for him in their user space at User:KyCour/Ezra Ripley Thayer. Gobōnobō + c 15:10, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
@Gobonobo:Very glad to see that someone is writing about Ezra Ripley Thayer. Thanks for that link! I would think, though, that linking to someone who doesn't yet have a Wikipedia page would be both confusing and frustrating to the non-editorial reader. At least linking to an outside source gives the reader an idea of the teacher/painter's work, and its relationship to the subject's...but maybe it's better just to skip the link and let the reader sort through Google if they care? I do much appreciate your help with this.Dorothy Koval (talk) 22:10, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
@Dorothy Koval: It's probably best to let the readers sort through Google, but red links are okay when they aren't overused and might improve the likelihood that an article is created. Wikipedia has an external links guideline if you're interested in the particulars. I left a note for KyCour, so maybe the link to Ezra Ripley Thayer won't stay red for long. Harrias talk 01:02, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

The article Stewart Mills III has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no independent evidence of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PamD 19:10, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:Eva Julia Neer.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://archives.focus.hms.harvard.edu/1995/Dec1_1995/On_the_Quad.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. reddogsix (talk) 02:18, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
