A barnstar for you
Good evening Ghmyrtle. I hope you are well. I have a puzzle which MartinEvans and I thought you may be able to help with. I've given some details on the above page about Pen-y-Clawdd Court and listed it as a Grade I Listed building in Monmouthshire. But I now think the details I've quoted refer to another Pen-y-Clawdd Court. My doubts arise from, firstly, the fact that RCAHMW lists Pen-y-Clawdd Court as being in the parish of Llanvihangel Crucorney, which plainly the Court between Raglan and Monmouth isn't, and, secondly, because the description in RCAHMW, and the pictures from a link I've found here [[1]], don't look at all like the Pen-y-Clawdd Court I photographed a few weekends ago. But Newman's Monmouthshire only lists one Pen-y-Clawdd Court and his description "notable only for the nobly scaled red brick arch close up to the road" definitely does match the house I photographed, the pictures of which I was going to upload until I got cold feet. So, I think there are actually two Pen-y-Clawdd Courts. But why does Newman not list the one near Abergavenny, which looks much more interesting and which I think is Grade I, but does list the one near Raglan which he acknowledges is only notable for its gate? Can it be that he's overlooked the more important of the two? I'd really appreciate any thoughts you may have. I understand that you may not be focusing on Monmouthpedia anymore, but this is more about getting the Monmouthshire Listed Buildings right. I have also asked Dr Blofeld as he's got a lot of local knowledge. As an aside, the Chepstow page is looking fantastic. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 19:37, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

No surprise really, because there's trio of chickens in the back garden and my wife was wearing her fluffy dressing gown again. Still, I avoided a full-on crucifixion. Does Horace Faith / "Black Pearl" mean anything to you? I could not decide whether to do an article on the song or the singer, and fell between two stools with not much material on either. Thanks andMonmouthpedia thanks you for your many contributions Guy. Please keep an eye on the points page as we will be announcing how you can watch the web stream. We have had to postpone the launch because we need the new Monmouthpedia Wifi to be in place to show off your work to people in Monmouth. If you can add your Skype name to the points page then that would enable us to contact you although I'm hoping you will be there. We are intending to have a second phase of this competition but we wanted to make sure we kept to the deadline we had published. This will be the world's first Wikipedia town with your help. Is it possible that you might like to be a "host" and welcome people on Saturday? I will be in meeting and John C may get sidetracked. If you were up for it then you could "own" the wikimeet page which needs some love. Victuallers (talk) 11:17, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Regardless of your citizenship or loyalty to the American government, I feel that your dismissal of my entire biological family's murders as "non-neutral" to be insensitive and uncivilized to say the least. I know it is tantamount to treason in the United States, perhaps just insubordination in the United Kingdom (I am a British royal, after all). I am the only living descendant of President Theodore Roosevelt and I will be taking this political fight to you and Wikipedia on an international level -- you and your superiors may respect my updates, or face your organization shut down. I might remind you -- I have a degree in this subject (English), I have several years of experience pursuing this topic, and my DNA actually matches who I claim to be. John of Monmouth's childrenI'm becoming puzzled as I draft something about John of Monmouth junior: there is some contradictory information out there, for sure. On John of Monmouth it says that son John from the second marriage inherited. What you can read from the old DNB is at s:http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Dictionary_of_National_Biography_volume_38.djvu/184 and says the son John from the first marriage inherited. Now I wouldn't rule out there being a John by each wife (this apparently is an opinion held by some). The ODNB says young sons John and Philip were kept hostage by King John; so consistent with the old DNB. It's too late now for me to try to sort it all out. I may go back to Walter Waleran and his daughters and try to search more systematically for the background. Charles Matthews (talk) 21:42, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank youThank you for changing Monk Street, Monmouth to British English. I'm using your copy edits and someone else's as models to try to do my own Brit English in the future. Anne (talk) 13:42, 16 May 2012 (UTC) I added a small section on the rivers (also mentioning ditches) to the article. Thanks for the additions that you made to the article as well. AONBHi, Just noticed your request on the Map workshop regarding File:AONBSUK.png. Unfortunately, can't be much help with the Northern Irish segment of this. However, File:England and Wales AONBs map.svg directly relates to your request. It would be easy for me to create England-specific and Wales-specific maps for the templates too.--Nilfanion (talk) 23:59, 27 May 2012 (UTC) DRNHello. Messages to the QueenI cut'n'pasted his message and sent it to the Queen. It's quite easy really. But unfortunately it will be me who gets a thank you , not him. What a pity1 Amandajm (talk) 10:28, 5 June 2012 (UTC) Joe HarriottIt has been felt for some time by black Jazz musicians in the Uk that the ground breaking free Form experiments and subsequent albums by Harriott have been marginalised in your account of British Jazz.Since Harriott's album predates that of Ornette Coleman's own experiments in this area it seems strange that there should be no mention of Harriot important innovations this area. Why do you feel that this is unimportant in the context of the time scale and a true overview of contributions to World jazz let alone British Jazz. After all the strong growth of the free scene in the Uk that has influenced many musicians from all backgrounds is currently enjoying a major resurgence throughout the Uk. You have also omitted the Indo Jazz Fusion period of albums that Joe Harriott helped to instigate with other important players. These are now widely acknowledged as some of the first recordings in the genre that became known as World music in later decades up to today. Why is that? Currently in the uk Music colleges students are complaining of being deliberately kept in the dark as to the historical contributions to Jazz in the Uk from people of the African Diaspora,Contributions that after all have benefited everyone interested in the rich tapestry of cultural and social influences that have made the music and scene what it is today. You have made a commendable start on this entry by including some of the names from the diaspora and we wouldn't expect you to name everyone from that background however it is important that contributions like these should really be acknowledged.(Moraphica (talk) 09:06, 6 June 2012 (UTC)).
Monnow_Bridgethe translation of your english article was on "did you know" in the german wikipedia today de:Vorlage:Hauptseite_Schon_gewusst. Cherubino (talk) 19:28, 9 June 2012 (UTC) Rocket 88The original "Rocket 88" has no bac kbeat at all, just a powerful double shuffle. Haley's version has a backbeat, but apparently no drums at all. The article includes a quote from some critic referring to the original's "steady as she goes back beat" which is nonsense. This is a perfect example of the occasional superiority of original research to a footnoted book. The book is wrong and I am right. As you know, I don't have the stomach for Wikipedia fights any more, so I am noting this problem and putting it in your lap. I think it is pretty interesting that neither one of the "first rock and roll records" has a full-blown rock and roll beat. Setting a link from a Wikimedia article to a Wikimedia Commons 'selection'?Dear Ghmyrtle - Would appreciate some help as I'm struggling with Wikimedia Commons categories/galleries. I sent a message to the [desk 'Setting a link from Wikipedia article to Wikimedia to do a search against all categories?'] and have some useful responses, but these do not really go far enough into what I need to do. I'm finding the help files difficult to grasp. I don't want to fall foul of policy, but it seems to me that this is potentially a complicated area and it would be a shame if people cannot be guided to a simple set of potentially 'dynamic' images easily. Gallery does not seem the sensible route. How can you control category grouping against a selection easily when many people have set their choice of categories and sub-categories and you are basically selecting from all of them? I've uploaded a selection of photographs of the rare 'Badgeworth Buttercup' (11 of them) and they might provide a good example of 'how to'. The other selection I wanted to do is 'Gloucestershire nature reserve' and images from that selection come from various category routes. Any advice you can give would be most welcome. You have added to my knowledge several times already - thank you. Sjeans (talk) 09:28, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
BritanniaHi, I've just looked at the Britannia article and the "Roman period" section seems to have become badly scrambled. Non-free rationale for File:Washboardsam.jpgThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Washboardsam.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:47, 22 June 2012 (UTC) So this is someone's idea of a "merge": [5] ?! Hmmm, looks a bit like a total delete to me. I don't think this is what most people envisaged? Chepstow RacecourseWe both had almost the same ideas, I think, at almost the same time. Happy to return to it tomorrow. Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:32, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Dear Ghmyrtle, thank you for your suggested Yarmouth racecourse picture. I now find that I was mistaken in thinking that the one I uploaded was copyright. I have evidence to that effect. I take it I can re-upload it, filling in the online form suitably differently? I am new to Wikipedia but in the face of so many "how to" instructions I decided the best thing was to put some new material on and learn as I go along, which I am certainly doing! Incidentally, it is not a coincidence that I have been updating Northern Racing courses pages, because I have written books about three of them. Hoping that I have addressed this response correctly,Ravel59 (talk) 17:26, 30 June 2012 (UTC) Many thanks but I have a questionThank you for responding to my comments on the talk page of the article on pasty about the difference types of pasty. I did, however, have a question which I hope you will be able to help me with. I see that in your comment, you say "[citation needed] for that, I think". My question is - what does [citation needed] actually mean? Many thanks in advance if you could respond to me here (you can leave any comments on the talk page of my userpage). Once again, thank you for your comments, ACEOREVIVED (talk) 10:25, 28 June 2012 (UTC) I see - it has now come out here, as "citation needed" - so I think I now know! Just tell me if have misunderstood anything. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 10:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
