ResolvedAs noted at the listing at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2010 December 17, every Wikimedia Foundation project is permitted to set an exemption doctrine within Foundation governance; this page very clearly failed the exemption doctrine on Wikipedia: WP:NFC permits brief excerpts of copyrighted text used for good reason. Some of the excerpts are brief, but many are not. I zeroed in on one (which may or may not the longest) at 271 words, which by itself violates Wikiquote:Wikiquote:Limits on quotations. From one book alone, there are over 800 words quoted. Less than half of this taken from a 500 page book was found to be a copyright violation in Harper & Row v. Nation Enterprises. I'll tag the original of this for review on Wikiquote, but the bottom line for Wikipedia is that this use of non-free content is not permitted by our policies. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:36, 30 December 2010 (UTC) |
