Removing your addition to Hadith article

Shi'a aren't unique in producing collections of hadith; that's a favorite Sunni pastime too. Probably Ibadi as well :) From what I have read, the world of Muslim scholarship in the last few centuries had become increasingly inward-looking, producing collections and commentaries rather than going in new directions. Also, no need to mention the other hadith collections; we can guess that there are others in addition to the main ones.

What WOULD be useful would be a breakout article on Shi'a hadith collection, commentaries, and scholarship. You could go into great detail there. I know it's more work than cramming more detail into a main article, but the breakout strategy is ultimately more helpful to Wiki users. Zora (talk) 19:13, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See if you like the current revision better. I don't want to include anything that implies that Shi'a are better than Sunni (or Sunni better than Shi'a or Ibadi, for that matter), but I am sure that compilations and commentaries have grown like kudzu in all traditions :) Zora (talk) 05:07, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am guessing that you object to the current edit because it doesn't say that the Shi'a hadith collections are larger than the Sunni collections. What evidence do YOU have for that? I am guessing that you are familiar with the Shi'a collections ... but does that knowledge extend to the later Sunni compilations and commentaries? I am doing my best to keep the article neutral, so I am very wary of edits that exalt one tradition over others.
What else could be wrong with the edit? You complained that the section made it sound as if the Shi'a only had four books. It now says that there are four early compilations and much later work. Is that inaccurate? Zora (talk) 08:35, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I looked up your reference. Your claim that the later Shi'a literature is *unique* is referenced to the book by Abd al-Hadi al-Fadli, which is a book published by Shi'a for Shi'a. IF that book makes that claim (which I couldn't say without buying and reading it, which I am unlikely to do) it is not convincing. It is as if I were to say that Zen Buddhism is the supreme form of Buddhism, and claimed that a book by a Zen Buddhist, published by a religious press, proved this. That is not NPOV.
