Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
  • A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect.
  • A request for comment asks if sysops may place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions?
  • There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.

Technical news

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
  • There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Sources > Personal opinions

Just a quick search on Google (whether you look for it in French or in English) would have sufficed to know that she is clearly Moroccan: - https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2018/04/243656/moroccan-bollywood-actress-nora-fatehi-speaks-out-against-cyberbullying/ - https://www.iwmbuzz.com/movies/photos-movies/nora-fatehi-journey-moroccan-canadian-actress-bollywoods-item-girl/2020/01/23 - http://moroccanladies.com/breaking-news/dilbar-moroccan-canadian-nora-fatehi-searched-song-google-india-25418 - https://www.h24info.ma/lifestyle/video-marocaine-nora-fatehi-epate-linde-danse-ventre/ - https://www.plurielle.ma/people/nora-fatehi-devient-la-celebrite-la-plus-suivie-au-monde-sur-instagram/ - https://www.welovebuzz.com/qui-est-nora-fatehi-la-canado-marocaine-qui-fait-fureur-avec-dilbar/

All sources call her Moroccan. I don't see why you bring your opinions when it is about facts and sources. I personally don't care at all whether she is Moroccan or not, but I also don't care at all if you personally think she is not Moroccan. If all sources say she is Moroccan, she is Moroccan, unless you prove she is not with your own sources... Denying her Moroccan nationality when every single source points to her being Moroccan is actually racist and such bigotry has no place in an encyclopedia that respects itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ucfberrada (talkcontribs) 16:40, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

We do not write heritage or ethnicity in the lead, only nationality, which in case of Miss Fatehi is Canadian. Moroccan heritage is covered in the Early life section. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:46, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Zukura

Hi my dear friend,

I hope you are doing well :) I wanted to bring attention to the article Zukura. There is a user called Hindian who has changed the title of it on 5th January 2021 without any valid reason to "Jukura". The city isn't known at all by this name nor will you find any sources with that name . It's official writing is Zakura which you find in Google maps and many articles. I am unable to move back the title to at least the Kashmiri writing Zukura or to its official writing Zakura as the word is used as a redirect for cherry blossom. Could you fix the title back please ? I saw that you have moved back pages to their original title so I thought you could fix this one too :)

Have a beautiful day ahead :)

Imranqazi90 (talk) 18:33, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

@Imranqazi90: I see he made the move on 5 Jan 2020, on 5th January 2021. Are there sources that say the official name has changed from Zukura to Jukura? Besides we have to follow WP:COMMONNAME. If Zukura is the commonly used name in Google, perhaps we need to move it back. Regards - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:33, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

There are no sources at all that the official name changed to Jukura. The official name is basically "Zakura" but the person who created the page wrote it in its kashmiri form as Zukura because Zakura is used already in Wikipedia as a redirect to cherry blossom for Japan. Government websites even institutional websites just mention it as Zakura : https://www.india.gov.in/institute-animal-health-and-biological-production-zakura-kashmir , http://iot.uok.edu.in/Main/Default.aspx. Even on Google maps you will just find it as Zakura. Imranqazi90 (talk) 11:41, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

@Imranqazi90: I moved it to Zakura, India since Zakura is the WP:COMMONNAME, used the suffix to disambiguate Zakura, explained also in the talk page. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:03, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a ton my friend :) I really appreciate it. Have a beautiful day ahead :) Imranqazi90 (talk) 12:52, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

@Imranqazi90: You are welcome bud. What is right is right. I have a habit of strictly following policies and law, so for some out there not following said policies, I come of an obnoxious one , especially when many places in the country are getting renamed. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:35, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

That's why I have asked you help as I know you are a person who is neutral and applies the appropriate policies on Wikipedia :) So thank you so much again my friend :) Imranqazi90 (talk) 14:03, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Hmmm...

With regard to the recent flare-up of incivility, I'm starting to wonder if we're not witnessing some form of sockpuppetry. Take a look at this edit history. Aelita14 was pushing for Moroccan nationality in that article, no doubt disappointed that they didn't get anywhere with Fatehi. And if you look further along searching for "MOS:CONTEXTBIO", you'll notice another editor pushing for that, someone who was blocked as a sock of someone else. I haven't looked too deep into it yet, but I'll look later. BTW, do you have the feature turned on that will show you blocked users by striking out their names? It's somewhere in Preferences. Sorry if I've mentioned it before. Or multiple times. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:37, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: I felt the same, especially after they repeated that thing about citizenship of Moroccans, an SPI needs to be filed against them right? Quite large of a case page it seems. I have that feature enabled. I did it immediately after you suggested it. I found a thread in my talk page about that, likely I had done it before that thread post . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:07, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm still looking (slowly), but I'm not convinced at present that Aelita is related. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:44, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Perhaps, you'd know better. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:11, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Non-inclusion of major "other religions" in pie charts for Indian states

I know you reverted my edit adding Donyi-Polo to the religions section of Arunachal Pradesh citing WP:OR but that is not Original Research in the first place. Going to table C-01 appendix in the census, Donyi-Polo is listed as a religion with code 701047 by at least 3 lakh people: that's around 20% of the whole state. I would understand if I put something like "Gond" (which is also recorded by more than 10 lakhs but isn't actually an organized religion) there and you reverted that but Donyi-Polo is relatively organized and formalized. There are academic articles published about the movement (this or this for instance. Donyi-Polo is like Sarna followed by tribals in Jharkhand: at least 40 lakh people record that as their religion but it isn't officially recognized as a religion by the Indian state (cause for numerous agitations including a resolution passed by Jharkhand assembly recently). If you oppose the inclusion of Donyi-Polo in the religions listing in Arunachal Pradesh, also then change the pie charts for religion for Jharkhand and Odisha because all treat Sarna as a religion. But that masks important social changes that people who want to learn about Jharkhand should know about: just saying "other" doesn't indicate whether there might be other organized religious movements (like Sarna and Donyi-Polo) that the Indian state does not happen to recongize. If there was no listing of Donyi-Polo in the census I would have kept it as "other" and explained in the religions section how some have organized into Donyi-Polo but it is recorded in the census so it can be listed. C1MM (talk) 05:39, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

@C1MM: Thank for communicating. You are experienced and I admire your work in Wikipedia, but you have to pay heed to basic Wikipedia policies like WP:V. Addition of new content not accompanied by a new source or not already mentioned in the sources present in the article are liable for deletion as per WP:OR policy. All you need to do is provide a source in support of your change. Many a times I have added 'explicit' census sources after your changes so as not to constitute WP:OR. Also quite a few times I have noticed that your edit summaries are unclear. This is not being critical of your contributions, just my suggestions. As for the matter at hand, I've updated the pie chart @Arunachal Pradesh in light of this source, however I haven't included Sikhism and Jainism, since those figures are quite below 1%. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:05, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Mahanpur

My dear friend can you have a look at the article Mahanpur. The user Hindian has moved it for I don't know what reason to Naveenpur on 22nd January 2020. I am unable to find documentation regarding that name. Even on Google maps and all , it's just Mahanpur. That user seriously loves to change names as I can see. It's not the first time I uncounter name changes from him for no reason.

Please have also a look at Onagam changed by same user to Sailypur also on 22nd January 2020. No any documentation either. I can just see Onagam.

Was his page movie of Mewat district to Nuh district on 4th January 2020 fine ?

Thanks a lot my friend :) When you get time please have a look at Onagam which was changed to Sailypur by the same user. There is a same issue as no documentation. Imranqazi90 (talk) 10:30, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Regarding the Indic Honorifics

Dear Sir, I'm extremely sorry for I was not used to the Indic honorific style. I will also remove the PS, PB, PV from Padma awardees' names as well, besides having removed all from my own additions. Most importantly, I think FRAS can be used as a post nominal (Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland), since it is a UK honour and so I have added it back to Souhardya De because even Rabindranath Tagore has FRAS written as a suffix. Please let me know if it is sound. Thanks, Rohan9082 (talk) 12:03, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Rohan9082

@Rohan9082: Thanks for communicating. You need not be sorry since everybody is not supposed to know about every policy. Actually, as per the WP:NCIN, MOS:HON policies, "honorifics should generally not be included with names, unless they are part of an external quotation", that is, it should be part of the WP:COMMONNAME of the person. And exceptions may be made only in cases where the subject is not known except with titles or other honorifics, which is not exactly the case with Souhardya De. The list is not exhaustive either and would typically include all such honorifics. Also note that people like Rabindranath Tagore and Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy have those post nominal in the lead sentence and not in the infobox. Also those people were British Indian citizens, I'd have removed them per policy, but not this time. I'd suggest you add the 'FRAS' in the lead sentence and remove it from the infobox as per Rabindranath Tagore and Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy for now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:55, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
@Fylindfotberserk: Thanks for letting me know sir. I have done as you said. Moved the FRAS title to the lead sentence like in RN Tagore and J Jejeebhoy. Rohan9082 (talk) 13:19, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Rohan9082

Regarding Kartik Aaryan page

Hi mate, hope you're doing well. Too much vandalism and useless edits are taking place on Kartik Aaryan page. Can you request for page protection. - MRRaja001 (talk) 18:33, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

@MRRaja001: I don't see much vandalism except for the Karan Shukla guy, which Wefffrrr has taken care of [2]. I can put a request, but don't think they will protect it. If it persists, tell me. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:47, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Meaning of ?

This article contains Indic text. Without proper rendering support, you may see question marks or boxes, misplaced vowels or missing conjuncts instead of Indic text.

_ in Ramswaroop Verma article?Heba Aisha (talk) 16:15, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

@Heba Aisha: It is because of "{{Contains special characters|Indic}}" template. I believe it can be removed since the article doesn't have any Indic Script now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:27, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

POV disruption

Gotitbro Hi, would you keep an eye on this article. Some pov-pushers making unsourced changes recently, although as of today it has been restored to the longstanding version. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:39, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Looks like the disruption/POVPUSH is coming from a single new user (Johnblaze editor), who is doing the same in other articles as well. Better off reporting that user at ANI, a lot of ethnic POVPUSHers in the Punjab/Sikhism space seems to be active these days. Gotitbro (talk) 15:54, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Gotitbro, True, as of now I have one opened at AN3 (here) for obvious edit warring and failure to respond in the talk page. If they continue, I'll move to ANI. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:01, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Please see if you can keep an eye M. F. Hussain, a lot of changes in the lead [by IPs] to either remove Indian or introduce Qatari have been going on for a long time. Note: While he did take up the citizenship of Qatar in the last year of life that does not him a Qatari nor is it apt in the lead, most sources only describe the artist as Indian (Britannica). Gotitbro (talk) 11:20, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Gotitbro, I'll keep an eye. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:43, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Can you keep a watch on Jibanananda Das, too many IPs/new accounts either changing the nationality to insert ethnicity (or anachronistically other nationalities). Gotitbro (talk) 03:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Gotitbro, Yup. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:13, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
