Take a look at User:Ravpapa/My Drafts. That is how I would rewrite the lead of the El Al piece. I'm not sure it's better, but it might resolve some of the objections of the hypersensitive - terrorism is gone, as are any hints of Zionist fervor. Do you have any references to back this up. My research suggests the first non-stop Atlantic service (using fixed-wing a/c)was by Pan Am in 1947 (see [1]). I believe German Airships offered a non stop service in the 1930s. I know the Israel-JFK route was at one time the longest non-stop service, but I'm not sure if it was the first. The name did not appear to come up as an issue during the FAC and I have seen other airline articles (namely Qantas, which is linked from the Airline WikiProject) that reside at a location without their full name. I understand we would, for example, use Delta Airlines over Delta, but El Al Israel Airlines is far from being a common name.
